Osomatsu-kun - Awww, this is so cute! How come the crude reboot is more popular than this?

Anpanman - Tch, this show is so kiddie and stupid. I'm only watching it for Kaneta Kimotsuki. When does Horrorman show up?

Tensai Bakabon - It's by the same guy as Osomatsu-kun. Worth a shot, and Bakabon is cute!

Moretsu Ataro - It's about an orphan who runs a vegetable stand in the Edo period? Sounds dramatic and sad.

Unico - Aww, he's such a cute little unicorn! The art is so pastel-like! Truly we're in for something pure and magical! ....Oh. It's one of those.

Black★Rock Shooter - Cool, this is gonna be an intense action series based on huke's characters and probably have no instance of getting hit by a feels truck at all!

Although not necessarily a personal favorite, Himitsu No Akkochan - Wait, this is a FUJIO AKATSUKA show?

Harry Potter: FINE I'LL READ IT but only because there's nothing else to read in the middle of the night when I feed the baby. >_< (Now "the baby" is nine years old and reading it on her own; we've decided that she'd confuse the sorting hat since she's brave, smart, ambitious, and friendly...but she'd ultimately end up in Hufflepuff. )

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Guess I'll see what all the hype is about, even though the title is stupid.

Ace Attorney: Why would anyone want to play a courtroom simulator? That sounds so dull!

Tales of Symphonia: All the characters except the hot mercenary guy are either boring or annoying.

Higurashi no Naku no Koro Ni: What is this stupid, cutesy slice-of-life anime my friends are trying to get me into?

Parodius: Those sure were some weird boss runs my friend showed me... now I wanna find out what game these are from!

Ace Attorney: A... lawyer game? How can this really be that interesting.... aside from the "OBJECTION" memes I keep seeing?

Yakuza: ...wait, what's this about weird sidequests and over-the-top attacks? Maybe I'll check it out some time... (though my VERY first reaction was knowing it as the game series people were complaining about not getting localised instead of Project Diva years ago, to which my reaction was: "I get wanting your obscure titles to be localized but why can't Sega just localize both, why word it as "INSTEAD of PD?")

Danganronpa: What's this... murder-mystery visual novel I keep seeing on my tumblr dash? It does look kinda interesting, though I really don't feel like reading Something Awful threads just for that LP everyone's reading, I'd rather actually play it... (later buys a Vita on sale mostly to play DR)

Game Center CX: Not sure what this is except it's obviously about games and my American friends stream this every Saturday... at 5am my timezone. ...oh well, think I'll join a stream and check it out anyway!

Chargeman Ken!: Not sure what this new NND medley is about but cool music at the start! (some years and several Chargeman otoMAD medleys later) Ok, so I guess it's some weird old anime? Popular scenes seem to include this guy jumping up in the air and these guys saying KOREKARA MAINICHI, not to mention this guy being dropped from a spaceship... and who's this Akira guy, surely he's also part of the show...? (checks out actual show years later)

I happened to see a Vine compilation of this guy who would randomly come up to people and start narrating their lives and I thought it was clever, so I went looking for him and lo and behold, he was Thomas Sanders and he makes really clever and relatable videos.

  • Assassin's Creed: Immediate love for this upon discovering it through Syndicate, though I ironically didn't end up playing that installment until much later and started playing the series with Black Flag instead.
  • Watch_Dogs: "Ew, isn't that just some boring hacking game? I heard it's bad and no one buys it." I was wrong. It's a good series. Started off this one with playing the sequel first funnily enough.
  • Terraria: I thought it was another bootleg Minecraft ripoff at first, again I was very wrong. ...As a matter of fact I now think it's better than Minecraft. Quite a lot better than it in fact.
  • My Hero Academia: "The green hair guy looks Adorkable." Seriously. Deku was the only thing that kept me watching through all that cliche Early-Installment Weirdness. First heard about this one because of "that fucking frog girl who everyone keeps talking about" and "that bishie with the red and white hair" in mid 2017.
  • Death Note: "I don't know what's happening, but let's keep going anyway." As probably one of if not the first anime I watched seriously upon being convinced that not all anime was that bad, I was more confused than excited for it, but. It's a very good show.
  • Tokyo Ghoul: The initial episodes kind of weirded me out, though once I progressed further into the series and read the manga I was pretty much hooked.
  • Kagerou Project: Introduced to this by a couple of my friends, and to this day the entire franchise kind of holds a special weight to me because it was the first anime/manga series I really enjoyed as a whole.
  • Harry Potter: My dad kept nagging me to read this as a kid and I kept refusing to do so because I thought it was "boring", but when I did found out that it was...actually good.
  • Warrior Cats: Have dropped the series since but I thought it was pretty good upon first reading it when I was younger and ended up binging on the entirety of PO3 and OOTS.

Weirdly it looks like I've had negative first impressions for a lot of my favourite works. Huh.

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

Metroid: Huh, this is some good music. Maybe I should watch a walkthrough... (and a very long story that I've already told a few times happens)

Zelda: The hell's a Lanmola? Maybe I should see if there are any more giant worms... (finds this website five minutes later)

Touhou: Oh, this looks cool. And the music is really good.

Calamity: Ohhh yes~ (mind you, this was when I heard Universal Collapse)

How unfortunate that you are attempting to deceive me.

Before I came to love Avatar: The Last Airbender, I loathed its Animesque quirks.

Instantly fell in love with Transformers: Animated the moment I first saw it - and it's still my favorite show to this day. The fact that the first episode I watched was the Season 3 premiere "Transwarped" (widely regarded as the best 3-episode story arc) was a huge attracting factor.

Instantly fell in love with Kung Fu Panda the moment that Po started kicking ass in his opening dream.

I was a little frightened at the intensity of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - but now I view it (the original 1990 film) as the best thing to come out of the TMNT franchise.

The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is still Disney's best show to date. Pity that the company can't seem to reach those levels of greatness in this day and age.

Cars is still a cool movie, but Cars 2 is where the trilogy reaches its peak.

Avatar the Last Airbender: Oh hey this show. I've heard it's supposed to be good let's have a look see. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: What is this? A My Little Pony show...that appeals to guys and it has a massive fandom? I dunno I'm not gonna be one of those people who hates the show but I'm not really someone who will get into this show. (Cut to 9 years later and I'm a brony, watched every single episode apart from some from season 8 that I haven't seen yet, as well as the movie and has been to quite a few Brony meetups in the UK as well as contributing to the main thread on this very forum in the past.) Spaceballs: Okay it was one of those movies I kept hearing soundclips online for. Is it going to be funny, who knows. The Emperor's New Groove: Well I love Disney and it's on You Tube I remember seeing it being advertised on DV Ds so let's do this. Predator: I've heard of you but I've never seen you before. I wonder why I haven't seen you for the longest time possible. North: It can't be as bad as the Nostalgia Critic says it is can it? (Boy was I wrong on that one)

Just from skimming random TVT entries, this is what I thought JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was like:

A Widget Series about an ordinary schoolgirl named JoJo who was walking to school one day and was sucked through a portal to a series of bizarre other worlds and alternate histories. She teamed up with various other humans who found themselves there or lived in those worlds, many of whose names also began with "Jo," to find a way home and fight against villains such as the hyper-muscled, fabulously posing spirits known as Stands, led by King Crimson and his right-hand vampire Dio. From seeing "Humanoid Abomination", life-draining, and something about sand, I thought Pillar Men were vaguely humanoid masses of sand with cylindrical limbs and glowing green eyes that drained their victims' life energy and turned their bodies into more sand, which they assimilated into their mass. Literally the only thing I got right about this was Dio being a vampire. Those sand monsters would be great in a D&D campaign, though...

Now that that's aside, when I actually started watching it (I did do some research, thankfully), I wondered "When is this going to get bizarre?" And then it did, and I was hooked. It was pretty much the first anime I had ever seen where I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen next, and the unique visuals were enough to keep my attention even when it was boring.

Steven Universe - "Lol, one of the characters is nicknamed a "space dorito"! haha! that's the best nickname I've ever heard." (And this "space dorito" turned out to be my absolute favourite character when I saw the show and I think my personality is a lot like hers.)

Rick and Morty - "Who is Pickle Rick? Why is everyone yelling I'M PICKLE RIIIIIIICK!"

Adventure Time - "A kid in my class is named Finn too!"

Regular Show - "That's the show with the pointing bird and raccoon I saw a picture of in Roblox!" (There's a looong story behind this one.)

Undertale - At first I thought Flowey was a plant from Plants VS Zombies, and I thought

Sans/Papyrus were part of an "Skeleton OC trend" (all the Sans A Us probably confused me?)

Baldi - "This game looks stupid, I am sick of seeing it everywhere!"

Pokemon - "My sister and her friend are playing some Pokemon game on Roblox. The Eevee or whatever it's called looks cool."

Wings Of Fire - "Wings Of Fire? That sounds cliche."

OK KO, Let's Be Heroes - "The girl with the purple hair looks like a female guest from Roblox."

Spongebob Squarepants - "Eww, he looks like a piece of mouldy cheese!"

Roblox - "What's this stupid robot game my sister is playing with her friend? It sucks!"

Minecraft - "Omg is that the game the creepers from Build To Survive The Creepers are from?"
