Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Hey folks, is this project where The Unintelligible, Pint-Sized Powerhouse, and Keet were partly split recently? The splits were done with no page type changes (no indexing, and no types for the new pages) and I wanted to point out that it's important to add +indexing to a trope when splitting it, and to type the new supages.

It's been over a month since the last page length report. Can we get a new page report, please?

I'll alert the folks from the character development thread.

@Oreochan: No. Checked the edits of American Dad!, the bullet points counts match.

I'll take American Dad!, Worse Than It Sounds and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. That is, it will take some time until I can get around to this.

Oh, also a portable page list:

I'll tackle Deader Than Disco. EDIT: Done. I just moved Film, Live Action TV, Music, Video Games, and Real Life to subpages, but it's now down to about 135000 characters.

EDITED AGAIN: Did the same to Continuity Nod, just moving Anime, Film, Literature, Live Action TV, Video Games, and Western Animation to subpages. It's now down to about 87000 characters.

I'll also do Star Wars, Transformers Prime, Angel, Warhammer and Ace Attorney.

ETA: Did Star Wars and Warhammer. Someone might think of moving part of the description over in the latter.

[up] I really wish you'd consulted with the 40K thread before splitting that page...some of them are so small that making them their own pages is really pointless.

Sadly, Willbyr, I am not familiar enough with the media forums to know that there is such a thread.

That said, I am ready for any fix.

[up] I need to take a look at character counts and see if any fat can be trimmed from those pages...once that's done, I'll see about rolling some of them together.

From a quick look at the character counts, the Mutants and Squats pages might fit together. Maybe the Emperor + Primarchs as well.

Also, split Characters.Angel; there were only 4 folders. On Characters.Ace Attorney Witnesses And Other Characters and Characters.Transformers Prime, are we in agreement to split according to folders?

Before anyone does Characters.Neon Genesis Evangelion—it will help immensely to move everything pertaining to Rebuild Of Evangelion on that page to a new character sheet for the latter work. I'd do it myself but I want to remain as unspoiled as possible...I'll put a note in the NGE thread in the Anime forum.

Rescued from the Scrappy Heap is now down to about 77000 characters - Anime, Comics, Live Action TV, Professional Wrestling, Video Games, and Western Animation have been split off into subpages.

Sadly, Willbyr, I am not familiar enough with the media forums to know that there is such a thread.

Then punch in the name of the work in the Search Forum Titles box if you're not finding it in the requisite forum. "Not being familiar with the media forums" is no excuse, especially since they're ridiculously simple, especially for someone already familiar with the wiki.

Funny.Rifftrax has been split into four subpages, one each for Film Franchises, Feature Films, Video Games (by far the shortest), and Shorts and Live Shows (it may make sense to merge the last two into some sort of "Other" page - thoughts, anyone?).

Not sure if was on the original list, but Troubled Production is now over 400000 characters. Debating whether to simply split it into "real examples" and "fictional examples" or further split "real examples" by medium... the latter is probably better since it will take longer for the page length to be a problem again. EDIT: And that's done.

Action Dad has been split by medium. (I was about to split Lightning Bruiser by medium, but it's probably best to defer that until the TRS thread reaches a verdict.)

One little note: When you split up pages, it would help if you also set the page type of the new pages to "subpage" or "examples", depending on which one applies.

WMG.The Dresden Files is over 416K characters and is breaking the folder code...I'd split it myself but the way it's organized, I have no idea where to start. Can someone that's familiar with those works take care of this?
