     Subjectives
  • Creator's Pet: Vivi- she is the only character apart from team MLDY, who are meant to show what happens in Beacon outside of Weiss and her friends, with her own fic. However, thus far, she has averted much of the backlash associated with such characters, as can be seen below.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Cinder, Roman, Cardin, the Malachites and Sky receive this treatment, although as can be seen below, not many of these were criticised.
  • First Installment Wins: The first volume is the one people are most familiar with, although the second one is also fairly well liked.
  • Fountain of Memes: The fic has generated a trend of yandere Velvets, shark plushies being used to bait Weiss and, to a smaller extent, tsundere Glynda.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Blake being a hilarious badass in Reacts is somewhat poignant when you consider that the real Blake is somewhat more sad.
    • Yin Xiao Long, Yang's mother in the fic, and her good relationship with her daughter. In canon, Yang's mother left her shortly after her birth.
    • Similarly, Siegfried's good relationship with his daughter Weiss is tempered by her canon father's status as an Abusive Parent.
    • Hell, the fact that villainous characters like Cinder, Cardin and Emerald act so casually with the students when Cinder and Emerald infiltrated Beacon in canon.
    • Pyrrha and Jaune's Relationship Upgrade has become this as a result of the ending of Volume 3. They achieved it in the canon Volume 3 too.....shortly before Pyrrha's death.
    • Back in Volume 1, Blake mentions that the elements of a Sacrificial Lion are their badassery, immense skill and their seemingly being part of the main cast before dying horribly. She summed up Pyrrha's role in the cast, right down to Pyrrha dying in the canon Volume 3.
    • Yang and Ruby make several jokes about Artificial Limbs in fics that introduce them. As of the end of Volume 3, it seems Yang will need them.
    • The story is noted to take place two (three in Volume 3) years after the equivalent of the events in Volume 1 in canon. At the very least, Pyrrha, Penny and Torchwick don't make it that long.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: So far:
    • The author has had Cinder enter Beacon, Weiss gain a sibling, and Humongous Mecha exist in Vytal. Keep in mind that the fic was started before Volume 2, or its trailer. Thus far, all of them have happened in canon- Cinder inflitrated Beacon as a student, Weiss is revealed to have a sister called Winter and the Atlesian Paladins have been long unveiled.
    • Also, the presence of an illusion generation Semblance, as of Neo's first appearance in canon.
    • On an unrelated note, Pentakill releasing actual albums. Smite and Ignite was released several months after the fic first mentioned Pentakill.
    • Jaune crossdressing. Both instances involve promises to Pyrrha (she wanted to cosplay with him in Reacts, and he made a bet with her in canon). Also, Cinder being a proficient hand-to-hand fighter- she curbstomps the entire class save Ruby in Reacts, and curbstomps several mooks.
    • Meta: The complaints that nobody gets the anime references. Come the Music Standoff chapter, nearly everyone misses the blatant Ronnie James Dio reference and nails the rest of them.
    • Plushies of team RWBY are a Running Gag throughout the earlier part of the story and one of the main characters, Vivi, is a Weiss plushie. There are now actual Weiss plushies on sale.
    • Blake being an absolute Badass and Large Ham here is hilarious when you think about her canon self being conflicted about her own cowardice. Or Harsher in Hindsight.
    • One of Winter's more-emphasised physical traits is her large chest, to the extent of making Yang jealous. Come the recent RWBY Panel, Winter's design was revealed to actually be quite busty, if not to Yang's level.
    • The climax of Volume 2 involved a giant, dreaded Grimm using herds of smaller Grimm to attack the heroes. Volume 3 introduces the Grimm Dragon, which is almost exactly like the Grimmfather only without sentience. Furthermore, the narrator is implied to be a sentient Grimm, which also matches the Grimmfather.
    • One chapter of Volume 2 had Yang refer to Ruby as "Grimm Reaper". That name would later be used for another character who is a Silver-Eyed Warrior.
  • It Was His Sled: Ruby and Weiss end up together after 72 chapters during the Festival arc.
    • Ren wrote the fic in the first chapter.
    • Andreas is Kamina reborn, literally.
    • Blake is an immense badass who owns two Humongous Mecha.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Inverted. A lot of readers are expecting Pyrrha to die in the climax of the Mandatory Training Arc. This is despite Word of God saying that they hated her canonical death and have no intention of repeating it in their story. Of course, in regards to the readers, chapter 41 ends with Pyrrha at the hands of a vengeful poacher with an armor-piercing blade and the chapter closing out on him stabbing her with the sword.
    • As of chapter 43, the readers were wrong and Pyrrha survived.
  • More Popular Spin-Off:
    • Nowadays Weiss Reacts is far more well-known to the point that some people consider the earlier fanfic a rehash of Weiss Reacts. It does not help that the latter fanfic updates far more often.
    • The shark plushie gag originates from an older fanfic of the author, where it was used in a much more Tear Jerker context, and that originated even earlier, from the 'Great Weiss Shark' meme. Nowadays, most readers unaware of either the older fanfic or the meme assume Weiss Reacts created the gag.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Yang, who became divisive due to her borderline Jerkass tendencies, returned to being liked in the eyes of the fans after having Weiss work with the Antic Order to bring retribution upon her, as well as her Cool Big Sis side being displayed throughout the crossover with Lucina Reacts, including delivering a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown against a Grimm attempting to kill Weiss.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • The final four chapters of Volume 1 had these, what with Tukson appearing, all-out (fake, not serious) war breaking out in Beacon, and especially the last battle, which involved a fast-paced mecha battle in mid-air over Beacon, among other things.
    • The Cockerel Festival increased it with the fights between everyone and then team RWBY against Siegmund, and then it was raised further during the Best Reactsverse Crossover. The final arc also involved Team RWBY fighting a bona-fide Kaiju of a Grimm.
    • The third volume increased it with the introduction of Demeter Rose and raised the stakes by revealing a prophecy that states that Pyrrha will die before she leaves Beacon.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: Is intended to be a refreshingly angst-free fanfic that's light on plot, contrary to the majority of the other fics on the archive. It does its job fairly well, too. What plot there is tends to be packed with as many moments of awesome and Funny as possible. The writer also intends to keep it like this to counterbalance canon.
  • The Un-Twist: Andreas' true identity was obvious to at least one reader.
    • Similarly, the use of Tohru as a Red Herring was also expected.
    • Zig-Zagged Trope: Almost everyone expected Euphemia to be one of Jaune's sisters, but some expected Lux or Zelda to be his second sister. Nobody expected Lucina.

     Audience Reactions
  • Crazy is Cool: Obviously, Nora, as per her characterisation in canon, but Blake definitely counts, with her manliness-inspired solutions to everything.
    • Using a Core Drill as a pick, using Fuckslayer as her guitar while playing Mirror, Mirror and invoking Kamina, Domon Kasshu and Ronnie James Dio cemented her status as this.
    • Nora gets some too, mainly for Dual Wielding Magnhild and a railgun against a Mary Sue and being the only person Blake refuses to cross apart from Ren and Kamina.
    • Alexander and Andreas Arc. Especially Andreas, who is the reincarnated Kamina.
    • Are we forgetting Velvet? The girl scares Mary Sues, is willing to take on armed assassins and people bearing godly weapons and is one of the very few people capable of out-anticking Yang, all for her beloved Weiss.
    • Ozpin. He's the God-Emperor of Swag, you know.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Blake. Or rather, badass!Blake, the portrayal of Blake in the fanfic.
    • Yandere!Velvet has many fans, as does her plushie sidekick Vivi. She lost a couple of fans due to her constant antics, but then gained them back when it was revealed she did it all to make people laugh.
    • Sir Lyserg the RWBYSaurus- sorry, Utahraptor has his fans.
    • Teacher!Cinder was very well received during her debut and is a generally well-liked character.
    • Espresso, Coco's Split Personality, is gearing up to be this due to her....rather direct approach. Also, Latte, for different reasons.
    • Beth Lupin for being a Badass and one of the only people equal to Yang's antics. Also, because her character concept is based off of Beowulf.
    • Norn, surprisingly, received an upshot in popularity after her fight during the Cockerel Festival- mainly due to the utterly badass way she dispatched Velvet and her generally Moe aesthetic.
    • Gretchen Faust, for her Cloud Cuckoo Lander tendencies and her hilarious, if horrifying crush on the Slender Man.
  • Evil Is Cool: The aforementioned Siegmund is viewed by some as an appropriately badass, hammy villain. It helps that not many of his atrocities (bar his abusive and supremacist tendencies)) are focused upon.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Ruby and Weiss, judging by the response to chapter 72's ending. Cardin and Melanie also have some fans.
  • Growing the Beard: The story was well-received originally, but grew into its own unique story around chapter 20 of the original, after some Early-Installment Weirdness.
    • Volume 2 has some excellent moments; Elf's characterisation of the Hokago Tea-Time girls was well received, and the entire Cockerel Festival was considered a high point for the volume. Especially the climactic battle between team RWBY and Siegmund Schnee, although the battle between Yang and Weiss was also well done.
    • Volume 3 brought with it several decent arcs too, including the Yuletide Dance and the Newspaper Arc. Also, the oneshot Aftermath where Pyrrha and Jaune attempt to cope with the former's canonical death was seen as the moment where the author proved he could write a serious or romantic story.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Ruby and Weiss would get together in the end. Most readers had a reaction of "FINALLY!" when it happened.
    • Similarly, everyone called Euphemia as one of Jaune's sisters.
  • Moe: Velvet, Vivi, Coco and Ruby have their moments, as do Weiss and Pyrrha.
    • Elsa Schnee. Even the fanfic itself lampshades it.
    • Latte, Coco's Split Personality. Or one of them, at any rate.
    • The Reactsverse version of Winter. Her reaction when she thinks she might lose Jaune to Pyrrha only makes her seem more vulnerable, too.
  • Older Than They Think: Weiss Reacts was actually inspired by an earlier fanfic called 'Dear Fanfiction', a fact the author acknowledges.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Teacher!Cinder has only gotten one chapter devoted to her, and yet she has one of the best responses from the readership yet.
  • The Woobie: Siegfried Schnee. Because he refused to follow his father's desires, he, in order, was disowned, nearly had his first daughter kidnapped, practically lost his second, and had his wife blackmailed into leaving him, in addition to having two close friends of his die or do a Face–Heel Turn. Thankfully, The Dog Bites Back and he makes a badass rescue attempt that succeeds.
    • By extension, the whole Schnee family, with the exception of Siegmund. Especially Weiss. And Winter.
    • Jerkass Woobie: Cinder, at least in backstory, given that she's a Cool Teacher now. Her Face–Heel Turn and Start of Darkness was initiated by Siegmund For the Evulz, among other things. It's not a surprise that she's implied to have only backed down when she realized that Siegmund was finished.
