"Can they survive?"note

"Alright, so I wanted to make a scenario to help us build trust with one another."
"Oh, we failed."
Den and Ivan respectively, inadvertently but very aptly summarizing the series.

Recreyo is an American-animated 2020 web-series created by YouTube creator, CypherDen. The series later went on to get picked up unofficially by Rooster Teeth, having begun airing on their website alongside the weekly YouTube releases. The link to their channel can be found here, and the link to their website can be found here.

The series largely focuses on a group of "friends", consisting of Den (CypherDen), Curt (CurtRichy), Chilly (ChillyPanda), Ivan (Ivan Animated), and later Christian (Frugal Aesthetic) and Kristine (k.fel). This group regularly engages in a variety of ridiculous adventures, usually led by a regularly rotating member of the team, as they attempt to put aside their trust issues and blatant sociopathy to accomplish a mutual goal. This rarely ends well.

On January 5th, 2024, after four years of activity, Recreyo officially announced the channel would be ending, citing both Den and Christian's desire to leave the channel to focus on their own content and had done all they could with the channel, and Curt, Ivan, and Kristine initially wanting to continue, but deciding as a whole to end the channel now that so many core members had decided to leave.

Recreyo provides examples of:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: During the Death Note episode, the group comes across a hostage situation which involved their father in the stand-off. They decide to write that their father turns into a shark/jet hybrid and kills the hostage taker (while meeting Lavagirl). However, they didn't read the fine print on the Death Note—it only allows deaths that are physically possible—and as a result of their planned method of killing being way too out there, nothing happens. note  However, their father returns home and confides in them that it was all a Batman Gambit to lure out the killer. As a result, they managed to evade the police. For added points, in canon Light Yagami actually fell for the trap and had the criminal killed, meaning that the constantly-bickering Recreyo crew managed to perform better than Light!
  • Aerith and Bob: The boys go by fairly normal names (Christian, Curt, and Ivan), while the girls go by more non-standard names (Den and Chilly). In the case of Den, it's justified in that "Den" is derivative of her real name, Denise (a considerably more standard name)... and then there's Chilly, whose name is neither a regular name or a derivative of her real name (at least, not any known derivative).
  • Amusement Park of Doom: The setting of "Can You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse With Your Friends?", which takes place in Disneyland for the first half of the episode.
  • Anyone Can Die: Played for Laughs; none of the deaths carry over into future episodes, and whenever someone does die, they'll gleefully continue talking regardless, acting as if nothing ever happened. Just about the only time death has an impact is "Can They Escape a Parallel Dimension?", where Chilly is explicitly barred from leaving the dimension because she died earlier.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In "Can They Survive Five Nights at Freddy's?", the crew manages to sever Foxy's hook arm using one of the doors.
  • Art Shift: The series has a variety of different animation styles varying between the different animators working on the episodesnote . The shift is best shown in character design: certain episodes depict Den with a nose while others depict her without one (especially noticeable given she's the only member of the crew to be drawn with one at all), and certain episodes give Ivan the same Black Bead Eyes as everyone else while others depict him with large circles as eyes to represent his sunglasses.
  • Back to School: The opening premise of "Can They Survive This High School?" involves Chilly, Den, and Ivan being back in high school. Den is less than happy at this fact. Similar griping occurs at the start of "Can They Survive Death Note?", with the first scene taking place in school.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The beginning of "the backrooms." has Curt lead the crew to believe the scenario will be about "Ouran High School Host Club", going as far as to have them be students enrolling at Ouran Academy and meeting main character Haruhi Fujioka. Then Chilly slips on a Banana Peel, a Running Gag from the series, causing everyone to trip with her... and then no-clip out of reality, ending up in the Backrooms. Ivan fails to realize they aren't doing Ouran for the majority of the scenario, visibly confused as to what is happening.
  • Batman Gambit: A variant of the Lind L. Tailor trap was made in the "Can They Survive Death Note?", in which an entire hostage situation is staged with the hostage-taker being a death row inmate, with the broadcast being in a specific part of Japan in an effort to bait Kira into using the Death Note. This gets subverted since the Kiras managed to screw up writing in the Death Note and so no one was killed in the process.
  • Beat Panel: In "Can You Survive Twilight?", after Chilly tells Curt that Edward isn't obliged to save him, this trope is used to emphasize Curt's shock.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: In the final round of "Can They Steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula?", the group quickly figures out that Ivan is the snitch, but rather than secure their win they opt to taunt him by continuing to ask questions. Said questions allow Ivan to figure out where the group is, ending in their arrest.
  • Boring, but Practical: In "Can They Survive Hunter x Hunter?", everyone rags on Ivan for spreading out his skill points to create a balanced character, mockingly calling him an NPC. However, this allows him to be one of the two Recreyo members to actually get his Hunter license. His skill point in intuition gives him a hint that lets him solve the first puzzle immediately (though it's implied that Ivan didn't actually figure it out and instead got it by sheer coincidence), his skill points in stamina provide a safe cushion in the second puzzle (though he doesn't end up needing said cushion), and his skill points in strength allow him to defeat Christian in battle when the two otherwise would have tied.
    • Subverted with Chilly in the same episode. She does the same stat spread as Ivan (even being mocked the same way), but she completely fails to interpret her hint in the intuition puzzle until time is almost up, and she's eliminated in the stamina puzzle because of her downright abysmal time even when her skill points are added.
  • Butt-Monkey: Ivan and Chilly tend to suffer the most at the hands of their friends and the universe, owing to Ivan being a Dirty Coward and Chilly more often than not being The Load. Which one the group goes after more tends to flip-flop between episodes.
    • Yamcha, already a Memetic Loser in his universe, is absolutely mocked in "Can They Survive Dragon Ball Z?", where he not only loses his round in the tournament from merely being insulted, but outright dies from it. His body isn't even given the dignity of being cleared from the arena.
  • Call-Back: In "Can They Survive Death Note?", after coming across an assault in an alley, the group yelps for help and throw their phones just like when they were assaulted in an alley in "Can They Survive Re:Zero?"
  • Catchphrase:
    • All collectively call each other "Looooooseeeer!" complete with appropriate hand gesture.
    • "HELP! HELP! HELP!" is normally shouted by Chilly when in crisis mode and also Christian to amplify how annoying it sounds.
    • Chilly has "Thank you!" as a one-off but repetitive catchphrase in the Twilight episode.
    • "Let's GOOOO!" exclaims an enthusiastic Curt.
    • "Me Hungy!" for the Hello Fresh sponsor segments.
    • "Recreyo Out!"
  • Clip Show: "Best of Recreyo 2021" is a clip show of the most memorable moments from the 2021 episodes.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In "Can They Survive Five Nights at Freddy's?", the crew severs Foxy's hook arm fairly early into the night, but it doesn't come into play until the penultimate hour, when it's used to dismantle Chica.
  • Compressed Adaptation: This happens in the Invincible episode, in which Omni-Man (played by Den) arrives to save the others from the Flaxxans, but instead of following them into the portal like in the original, he goes straight into telling Invincible (played by Ivan) that they're Viltrumites and they need to get the Earth ready for an invasion, which includes murdering the new Guardians of the Globe (played by everyone else, sans Chilli who died earlier), to which Ivan refuses and they proceed to fight.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: In "Can They Survive Hunter x Hunter?", Christian puts all five of his skill points into stamina. While it lets him pass the second puzzle easily, he really didn't need the skill points (he had succeeded at the base trial without needing to add the skill point bonus), and his lack of skill points in strength costs him the climactic battle with Ivan when the latter has balanced his scores out, including 2 skill points in strength.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Tara Strong attempts to invoke it in the Dragon Ball episode by mimicking Bubbles in an effort to defeat Den. It doesn't work, forcing another round.
  • Deadly Game: A vast majority of episodes are designed around the main cast facing one of these.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Downplayed, but in "Can They Survive Resident Evil Village?", both Chilly and Curt are somewhat distracted by the prospect of meeting Lady Dimitrescu. When she appears at the end, they both gleefully demand that she step on them, ignoring everything that's happened to them by that point (including Curt dying).
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Combined with Remember the New Guy?, Christian is absent from the first four episodes of Recreyo, only appearing from the fifth onwards.
  • Epic Fail: In "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?", while Christian aces every question and Curt performs pretty well, Ivan and Den make some particularly bad mistakes. Of note, Den lists a full year as lasting 24 hours, and Ivan lists Eurasia as the largest country and Mars as the first planet from the Sun. With Den it's at least partially justified in that she's sleep-deprived, but Ivan has no such excuse.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Combined with Pyrrhic Victory and even discussed in-universe in "Can They Survive Sweet Home?" The episode ends with Chilly as the Sole Survivor when the others are attacked by cannibalistic monsters. However, when she taunts her dead friends, they are fairly quick to point out three things. One—a horde of the cannibalistic monsters surrounds the small apartment she's living in, meaning she'll be eaten in days if not hours. Two—Den confirms that she's infected, meaning she's going to become one of the cannibalistic monsters even if she's not eaten. Three—she's stuck in Wisconsin while the others get to move on to heaven. Chilly continues to celebrate anyways despite it being abundantly clear that her victory will not last long at all.
  • Flanderization: As time goes on, Den's murderous tendencies begin to apply less to Ivan specifically and more to everyone.
  • The Gadfly: Christian more often than not knows how to solve a puzzle... which is why he'll often self-sabotage in favor of making things more entertaining.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Every handful of episodes will feature a collaboration with other YouTube channels, thus forcing others into the same scenarios as Recreyo. Season 2 in particular featured these, with over half the season having one join them, and being allowed to give the sign off at the end.
    • Yssa Badiola would be the first instance, appearing in both "Can They Become Wizards?" and "Can They Escape a Parallel Dimension?", initially stuck as the Only Sane Man before undergoing a Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal.
    • Blaine Gibson and Chris Demarais of Rooster Teeth would appear twice, first as their characters "Clayton" and "Chris" for "Can They Escape Hell?", then as "Charmander" and "Pikachu" in "Can They Survive Pokémon?"
    • Curt's fellow "Beyond The Bot" members (Dorrie, Cristal, Jacob, Adrian, and Yedoye) join the crew in playing Among Us.
    • "Can They Survive a Demonic Possession?" would see Chilly kidnap Crystal and David of "The Dootlez" to take part in her teleporter experiment alongside the crew.
    • "Can They Survive Rick and Morty?" would see Hugo/"Sloppypencil" join the crew in fighting Ronnie and the forces of "Morp Morp".
    • Tara Strong and Greg Cipes would participate in a "Tournament of Power" style event against the other members of Recreyo in "Can They Survive Dragon Ball Z?"
    • Den would recruit Cole and Andrew of "Podcast But Outside" to join The Guardians of the Globe in "Can They Survive Invincible?"
    • The members of Plan 3 (Hosuh, Hart, Stephen) and Gavin/"GNG" would be conscripted into joining the Squid Game by Den in "Can You Survive Squid Game?"
    • Streamer "Pokimane" would join for the channels first three part episode, having her leading a team of students for the Joint Training Exercise in "Can You Survive My Hero Academia?"
    • Bryson/Haminations would enroll as a student in Hogwarts alongside Curt, Den, and Christian for the two-part "Can You Survive Harry Potter?"
    • TierZero is recruited to help the crew construct a "Dinosaur Tier List" by explaining to them details regarding various dinosaurs.
    • Rebecca Parham joins Ivan, Christian, and Curt in trying to retrieve a crown for King in "Can You Survive The Owl House?"
    • Christian/"CircleToonsHD" ends up crashing in the woods with all but Ivan stuck playing Slenderman's game in "Can You Survive Slender?"
    • GingerPale would join the group in constructing a "Cartoon Crush Tier List".
    • Sethical would end up on Destiny Islands and forced to battle the Heartless with the crew in "Can You Survive Kingdom Hearts?"
    • The Five Nights at Freddy's scenarios would see a new guest appearing with the crew starting with the third game, first having "eLLcartoons", then "Kwiteee", and then Domics.
    • "YourBudTevin" would end up petrified and awakening in the Stone World with the crew in "Can You Survive Dr. STONE?"
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: In "Can They Survive Five Nights at Freddy's?", the crew manages to bisect Chica using one of the doors. She survives it (because she's a robot), forcing the crew to attack her directly.
  • Karaoke Box: A Karaoke session is used as the last challenge in "we got blackmailed".
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Ivan and Christian spend the entirety of "Can They Survive Hunter x Hunter?" making "____er? I hardly know her!" jokes. The last of these jokes, at the end of the video, prompt every other member of Recreyo to commit suicide, including Curt.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Early into "Can They Survive Final Fantasy?", Christian attempts several times to murder Chilly's living stuffed animal. At the end, Christian is left behind in the exploding reactor, and Chilly happily waves him off, claiming that she'd rather save her stuffed animal than him.
  • Let's See YOU Do Better!: In the end of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?", Ivan demands that Chilly (the episode's host) answer some of the questions in order to prove her claims of being the smartest Recreyo member. Chilly is quick to point out that she already knows the answers, given she picked out the questions herself.
  • The Load: In "Can They Survive Final Fantasy?", Christian is quick to point out that for all Chilly's overprotectiveness of her stuffed animal, neither she nor it actually did anything throughout the episode, whereas he and his gatling gun contributed far more to get to the reactor core, yet in spite of that the Recreyo crew is more than willing to let Christian die in the stuffed animal's place.
Christian: You sacrificed the most fucking valuable weapon! What did Chilly's stuffed animal do this whole episode?!
    • In general, when it comes to teamwork, Chilly will (more often than not) either contribute nothing to the puzzle-solving, get herself or a teammate killed violently, or outright cause the problem the episode deals with (with her accomplishing all three in "Can They Beat the Alien Impostor?"). It probably contributes to her status as The Friend Nobody Likes.
    • Ivan is only marginally better, with him contributing very little to the group's endeavors as well. Unlike Chilly, however, Ivan is for the most part just savvy enough to avoid causing someone's death, which means he typically avoids being labeled a burden as often.
  • Logical Weakness: When Christian and Chilly are jointly cast in Bella Swan's role, it's revealed that Edward can't read their minds— not because they have special resistance, but because they can think in Tagalog and Arabic respectively. Curt and Ivan (whose Tagalog is shown to be poor in the Mummy episode) wouldn't have been so lucky even if Edward hadn't let them die!
  • Loose Lips: In "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?", When Chilly reveals the answer to "What planet is the closest to the sun?" as Mercury, Ivan accidentally reveals his embarrassingly incorrect answer.
    Ivan: It's not Mars?
    Christian: Did you say "Mars"?!
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Downplayed as it's more the setup for a metaplot. The first part of the Grand Finale, "Can You Find What's Wrong with the Multiverse? | THE END OF RECREYO", has Recreyo-chan explain that the multiverse is falling apart thanks to Recreyo's scenarios and the actions of her twin, resulting in various realities bleeding together. Among those shown as the casts of Adventure TimeSpecifically and Steven UniverseSpecifically fighting at the Mystery Shack, and the casts of NarutoSpecifically and My Hero AcademiaSpecifically fighting at Baratie. Numerous characters from other works likewise appear during the glitches, including Bob the Builder, Slender Man, The Mother, Dora the Explorer, Caillou, Strawberry Shortcake, Patrick Star, Shrek, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, a Magicarp, a crewmate, Nigel Thornberry, Homer Simpson, Ugandan Knuckles, Freddy Fazbear, Chica, and Burntrap, Saitama, and Godzilla.
  • Mistaken for Racist: In "Can They Escape a Crisis Bunker?", Ada Brooks disdainfully responds to meeting the Recreyo crew with "You people..." As all three Recreyo members currently in the scenario are of non-Caucasian ancestrynote , Ivan immediately asks her point-blank if she's being racist. Curt has to hastily clarify that she was referring to the crew's status as YouTubers, not their race.
  • Noodle Incident: According to "What Your Personality Type Says About You", Den's desire to stab Ivan comes from an incident where Ivan almost killed her dog. No further details are given, other than Chilly being a witness.
  • The Noseless: The thumbnails zigzag this, but the videos themselves consistently depict the Recreyo crew without noses. The only exception is during episodes animated by uToonz, but even in this case, Den is the only one of the five drawn with a nose.
  • Not His Sled: Invoked by Curt in the Demon Slayer episode. While the crew's scenario is the same as Tanjiro's (finding your village slain by a demon with their sibling being turned into a demon), Curt does not do the Nezuko route and explicitly states that he's going to kill them. It's even lampshaded by Curt when the idea of putting him in a box is brought up.
  • Off with His Head!: In "Can They Survive Five Nights at Freddy's?", Bonnie is decapitated by the closing vent door.
  • Only Sane Man: With Ivan being a Dirty Coward, Chilly being The Load, Den being an Ax-Crazy Blood Knight, and Christian being The Gadfly, Curt is just about the most level-headed member of the group and often the only one focusing on the task at hand... which isn't saying much.
  • Parent Never Came Back from the Store: Played for laughs by Den in "Can They Survive Invincible?", As she leaves her "Son" out of disappointment.
Den : Bye, son. I'm gonna go get milk. See you later!
  • Pet the Dog: When Ivan is trapped in "Can They Survive the Mummy?", Chilly assigns the others a code that they must decipher in order to free him. The code in question reads "Ivan is a valuable Recreyo member," showing that in spite of all the bickering Chilly cares about him to some degree. Additionally, when the others realize what it is they have to say, they actually say it in full rather than just leave Ivan to die... although Christian frantically insists that that can't be the full code after the fact.
  • Playing Against Type: An In-Universe case. While many scenarios based on existing IP's will have the crew take on the roles of characters of that IP, not all casting choices will be perfect fits. The The Cabin in the Woods scenario, "We Found a Secret in this Cabin", has scenario maker Den assign the roles of the "College Kids" to the crew. While Ivan, Christian, and Kristine fit neatly into the roles of Dana Polk, Holden McCrea, and Jules Louden respectively, Curt and Den don't fall as neatly into their assigned roles of Curt Vaughan and Marty Mikalski. Unlike Vaughan, Curt doesn't go along with the enforced Idiot Ball to force the group to split up due to being Genre Savvy about horror movies, acting more akin to Marty in calling out the stupidity of the cliches, and only suffering Vaughan's canonical fate due to Den employing a bit of railroading. Den meanwhile tries to get Curt to go along with the "voices" telling them to split up and acts more like the leader of the group due to being the narrator, making her fit the role of Vaughan more, despite sharing Marty's fakeout death and leading the others to the facility. invoked
  • Prisoner's Dilemma: "Can they Escape a Parallel Dimension?" has one as its final challenge. Christian and Ivan win by betraying Den and special guest Yssa.
  • Railroading: Many times, largely due to Ivan but occasionally from others, the narrator will force the rest of the crew into making decisions they normally wouldn't so as to progress the scenario according to the script they wrote. Said moments are used sparingly by all but Ivan as a result of the narrator either accounting for the craziness of the crew, or having multiple options or branching plot beats. Ivan is the only exception, largely relying on railroading due to favoring a linear narrative dependent on specific choices being made, and forcing the others to comply when they don't go along with his script.
Chilly: (As Ivan in "Can You Survive a Stalker?") We're walking up towards him, and Ivan in the back is like "No! Stop! You're wrong! Wrong choice! Stop! You're wrong! It's wrong!"
  • Reality Is Unrealistic: Exploited by Curt in "Can They Escape a Parallel Dimension?", where one of the puzzles is a room with three doors, one of which features alligators who haven't eaten in months. The group naturally concludes that the alligators have long since starved, but as it turns out, alligators can survive for up to two years without food. By the time this is revealed, Chilly has ended the alligators' hunger.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Christian debuts in "Can They Escape Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory?", the fifth episode of the series, but even in that episode the crew responds to him as if he's always been there. Considering how easily he fits in with the others, and the fact that he's been in every episode since, and you'd be forgiven for thinking he's been part of the crew since day one.
  • Rooting for the Empire: In-universe, at the end of "Can They Beat the Alien Impostor?", Curt and Christian start rooting for the alien/Den after Chilly ends up as the Sole Survivor, as they're mad at Chilly for getting them killed and generally being The Load throughout the episode.
  • Running Gag:
    • Chilly exclaiming "Help! Help! Help!", much to her friends' annoyance.
    • Christian saying literally anything about the McRib.
    • Den attempting to stab someone, usually Ivan.
    • In "Can you survive Danganronpa?" have everyone calls Curt a "Raffle Boy".
    • In "Can You Survive Teen Titans?", using the line "There's X of us and Y of them." This is reprised for "Can You Survive A Stalker".
    • "You are all in high school!" or something to that effect when starting an episode.
  • Shout-Out:
    • "Can You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse With Your Friends?" has a scene that shows Ivan redesigned as a raccoon with a sweater vest.
    • "Can They Escape a Crisis Bunker?" has a character named Paul Jacobs. Now, where might one have heard ''that'' name before...
    • There are multiple episodes that are based around the group surviving specific settings, including "Can They Escape Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory?", "Can They Escape Jurassic Park?", "Can They Survive Among Us?", etc.
    • Christian sings the theme to Halo after Chilly makes a particularly bad mistake during "Can They Beat the Alien Impostor?"
    • The prologue to "Can They Survive Alice in Borderland?" has Christian singing "Earthquake" by Tyler the Creator.
    • During their guest appearances in the Dragon Ball episode, Tara Strong and Greg Cipes make use of powers from the various roles they've played, from Kevin Levin to Raven.
    • In Christian's test in "Can You Survive Assassination Classroom?", Family Feud is referenced by the crew due to the test resembling Family Feud's "Fast money" round.
    • In Curt's test in "Can You Survive Assassination Classroom?", Opening from various anime is used; Naruto, Soul Eater, Food wars, Haikyu, And Assassination Classroom.
  • Smarter Than You Look: "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" reveals that Christian, of all people, is surprisingly knowledgeable on many topics. He gets every single on-screen question correct, wins first place in a Curb-Stomp Battle, and a hard-to-hear line from Ivan at the end reveals that he outright donated points from getting so many questions right, all without it affecting his overall standing at the end.
    • Ivan is training to become a doctor, which is near-impossible to tell from his actions in Recreyo alone.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Because of their Achievements in Ignorance in the Death Note challenge, Lind L. Tailor, or rather their equivalent in the challenge, survives his death.
  • Take That!: Paul Jacobs, the Jake Paul Expy, is depicted as an obnoxious, stupid, and unlikeable influencer.
  • That Came Out Wrong: In "Can They Survive This High School?", Ivan proclaims that "I'm strapped on, let's go!" while Chilly can be heard snickering in the background.
  • Thicker Than Water: Three out of five of the main group are Filipino...and, if anything, are more likely to turn on each other than Curt or Chilly.
  • Too Dumb to Fool: At the end of "Can They Survive Death Note?", the group forgets the notebook's rules and write a very intricate but physically impossible death, which fails to make anything happen...which means they don't fall for a trap that would lead the police straight to them An explanation.
  • Too Dumb to Live: At the end of "Can They Beat the Alien Impostor?", Chilly deduces where the final switch needed to restore power is located. She then proceeds to say where it is in full earshot of the impostor/ Den, who not only gets to move first, but now knows where to wait for Chilly. Curt is quick to call her out on it.
Curt: Oh, well why would you tell her that? Now she's probably just gonna go there.
    • However, this is later subverted as, somehow, Chilly finds the switch without being killed.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: The McRib is this for Christian, who sometimes laments its absence from McDonald's restaurants (at least until it was brought back for a limited time in late 2020, though even after that the McRib gets brought up time and time again).
  • What's a Henway?: Many such jokes appear throughout Recreyo's videos, with the most famous one being "bofa", answered with "both of deez nuts".
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?:
    • In "Can They Survive Final Fantasy?", it's actually averted. As the Recreyo crew is swarmed by foes and discuss a plan of attack, Christian just plugs the enemies full of bullets with his gatling gun. Curt lampshades it.
Curt: I'm trying to pick up my sword, Den's putting on her gloves, Chilly's just yelling, and then in the meantime, Christian's just "BOOM BOOM BOOM!" and it's over!
    • Once again averted (quite literally) in "Can They Survive Dragon Ball Z?", where Den exploits the lack of metal detectors in the tournament to sneak in a handgun and shoot Ivan dead as he's preparing his opening move. She attempts it again against Tara Strong, but Tara is faster and traps her in a portal with Trigon.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: One starts at the beginning of "Can You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse With Your Friends?", and continues into "Can They Survive A Zombie Apocalypse?". The zombies in question largely take a backseat to the group's arguments though.

"I'm Putting A Twist On It."

When presenting a scenario based off Demon Slayer's first episode (in which Tanjiro's family is slaughtered save for his little sister who was turned into a demon), rather than allow himself to be like Nezuko and want to return to being human, Kurt instead runs off into the woods and presents the scenario that the others have to hunt him down. He even brings up that this is a twist when one of them jokes about putting him in a box and carry him around much like how Tanjiro did for Nezuko.

How well does it match the trope?
