"It's Hell. Hell is a really fucked up place. There, happy? I described it for you."
Angel Dust

Hazbin Hotel: Lucifer's Folly is a Discord server based on Hazbin Hotel (and also Helluva Boss) series and is a Horror Comedy roleplay series. It was created by Gallibon (who is also known as Gallibon on here) who made it after leaving a different Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss RP server that was In Name Only to the source and didn't make use of it's setting. Wanting a story and RP series that actually took advantage of it's setting, Gallibon created Lucifer's Folly with the help of others. The end result is an ongoing roleplay series in where Charlie and her hotel crew and patients get into many hijinks and adventures in Hell.

Tropes in Hazbin Hotel: Lucifer's Folly:

  • Aborted Arc: Surprisingly doesn't happen all that often. A few instances have occurred however, such as Gavin's memory loss and Dr. Kaiju's Jiangshi army, both of which never come up again.
  • Abusive Parents: Henroin (Angel Dust's father) is implied to have been this.
    • Murmur and Verona are definitely this to their children, although they're more verbal than physically abusive.
    • Mark was this to Celeste to as well.
  • The Ace: El Bandito; he's so badass, witty, skilled and Crazy-Prepared all the time. Whenever it seems like all hope is lost, El Bandito will typically show up to save the day, such as that one time he managed to trick and scare Mephisto out of the Hotel by dressing up as Lucifer.
  • Action Girl: A lot, but Vaggie, Maggie, Millie, Umbria, Poxxy and Lamashtu come to mind.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Lechies was pretty dumpy looking in his original illustration. Here he's depicted as being much slimmer, much more dashing and romantic looking.
    • Murmur is much more gorgeous looking than his original description in the Ars Goetia.
    • Downplayed with Lamashtu. While much more easier on the eyes when compared to her original look from Mesopotamian mythology, she's clearly let herself go over the years.
  • Adaptational Badass: Lechies in his original incarnation from the Dictionnaire Infernal was no slouch, but here he's depicted as having control over blue flames, is skilled in swordsmanship and has some more rather disturbing but effective powers.
    • Ditto with Leonard, who is also capable of controlling flames and can shapeshift.
    • Among Demon Hunters, none has gotten quite the upgrade like Father Christmas himself, who went from jovial old man to Alucard.
    • Ribesal went from a rather pathetic looking demon made up of scrap to being a gigantic, towering lobster demon who is able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Hades and Anubis.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: While Crymini has yet to be proven if she's anymore intelligent in the main canon series, here Crymini is depicted as being very inept, to the point of being illiterate. She can't even understand basic labels right.
    • Angel Dust is also depicted as being somewhat more airheaded in this series than he is in canon, but not by much.
  • Adaptational Wimp: A somewhat downplayed example but regardless Stolas here is notably depicted as being far less powerful than he is canon and appears considerably less than he does in the main show.
  • Aerith and Bob: Much like it's canon source, expect there to be many crazy and outlandish demonic names like Angel Dust, Sex Machine, Rift Landshark, Purr-Vert and Sparky Kaboom only to also be greeted with demons with more normal names like Fitz, Steve Stinger, Leonard and Toby.
  • Affably Evil: Leonard. While he may be a demonic dignitary who can seriously kick your ass with his fiery blade and combat skills, he's very polite and kindly to one and doesn't hold any ill will towards his enemies per say, as he only attacks if he's ordered to.
  • The Ageless: The damned don't age after they've died, staying the same age range they were when they died. A lot of members of the Ars Goetia also are this, with many of them having really long lifespans.
  • Alien Sky: Hell's skies are always red. Though, the other Rings's skies appear to be different colors, depending on where one goes.
  • Animal Motifs: Many demons have this. Out of Angel Dust (spiders) and Vaggie (moths), others have:
    • Cazador's is crocodiles.
    • Volk's is wolves.
    • Manon's is snakes.
    • Bonny's is bunnies.
    • Purr-Vert's is cats.
    • Rift Landshark's is well, sharks (if the name didn't already tip you off.)
  • Anime Land: Jigoku, the Japanese Sector of Hell, plays this trope extremely straight. Funnily enough, the creators are huge Tokusatsu fans.
  • Arc Villain: Several, as often there will be a villain who rolls in who will act as the big bad for a series of R Ps.
  • Ars Goetia: Several are featured, with Stolas and Stella being the most obvious. Several non-avian Goetias exist however, such as Amdusias, Dantalion, Ronove, Amy, Astaroth and Vassago.
  • Ass Shove: Angel Dust gets this one time after he insults two Ciguapas, who proceed to ram a golf club up his ass.
  • A-Team Firing: Pvt. Johner is very prone to this. IMP as well.
  • Bad Guy Bar: There's a lot for demons to hang out at in Hell. The Red Room Cocktails, Klub Kaiju, Killer Klub, Goon Saloon, Club Hell 666, Kuroshima Club, The Lowlife's Pub, Rougarou Winery, etc. Many of which all having a different theme to them.
  • Baphomet: While Baphomet himself hasn't appeared physically (at least not yet), he is stated to exist as he is mentioned by Leonard and Lechies many times.
  • Battle Couple: Moxxie and Millie, as usual.
  • Bash Brothers: Thomas, Thanatos and Elena all fight together when the time of fighting comes
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Due to the nature of the server, there are many villains that can be considered Big Bads, most of which have stuck around longer than your typical asshole demon:
    • The Three V's, naturally.
    • Gevaudan Silverwolf, the most prominent Overlord who isn't The Three V's but manages to be just as deadly as they are.
    • Prince Murmur, the head of the Blackfeather Clan and one of Charlie's most ferocious foes to date as he plans to kill her and Lucifer and rule over Hell.
    • Mephistopheles, Lucifer's right hand man, owner of Mephistopolis, compulsive gambler, professional manipulator, and Charlie's godfather.
    • The Hell Nazi Party, led by Flamey Von Hardoff, Colonel Klick and General Putz. Although they are pretty goofy.
    • Then there's Sector Patrol, Hell's law enforcement for each of the nine Sectors of Pride. Their evil is often spearheaded by El Condor, the Xibalban Captain
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Cheepo. The guy so badly wants to be taken seriously as a villain but his lack of menace (and general cheapness) makes him totally unable to be taken seriously as such.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: The three Fallen Angels who orchestrated the War on Heaven: Barbatos, Bael, and Agares.
    • Barbatos is Hell's deadliest huntsman, known for his towering body, broad shoulders, and wide frame.
    • Agares is Hell's highest doctor of medicine, whose short stature is accentuated by his hunched back.
    • Bael is Hell's most important law enforcer and the founder of Sector Patrol, tall, slender, and crooked.
  • Big Red Devil: Given the setting, naturally there are some Sinners who resemble the stereotypical looking red horned demons. Many avert this however, having more unique looking appearances.
    • Played straight with Rahovart, imps, succubus, and incubus however. Justified, as they are hellborns.
    • Toby's appearance strongly resembles one.
  • Black Comedy: And how!
  • Butt-Monkey: Machigai is frequently beaten up and killed by other demons. It seems whenever he shows up, he's always just there to get thrashed.
    • Thrashicus and Scrapmetal's misadventures never end well for them, but since they are idiotic skinheads, it's fine.
    • Cheepo isn't so lucky as well.
    • Fitz, dear god, Fitz...
    • Steve Stinger dies at the end of almost every appearance, though it seems to be what he wants..
    • Ironically, Moxxie isn't hit with it as much as he is within canon.
    • Gavin and Toby used to get mauled and killed in every appearance before both in their early characterizations.
  • Camp Gay: Angel Dust, Snowcone and Magnus are very effeminate gay demons who seem to be competing with themselves on who can be the most feminine.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Both Snowcone and Vroomius Maximus do this very often.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Most of Hell's more villainous demons aren't exactly very subtle about their nature. Probably the most blatant ones in this regard would be Cheepo, Scamley Bugman, Apple Doom, and Sonneillon.
  • The Cartel: Carmine Defense Solutions is styled after this.
  • Casino Park: Mephistopolis is portrayed as such, being a tourist trap for getting people's souls the easy way, and being explicitly located in the Greed Ring.
  • Cat Folk: Purr-Vert, Kennedy, Husk, and Sitri are all very cat-like demons.
  • Cats Are Mean: Purr-Vert and Sitri are probably the evilest cats you could ever meet in Hell....
    • Downplayed with Kennedy. He's certainly a raging jerkass, but he's not evil.
  • City of the Damned: Pentagram City, of course being the main setting is this. Imp City, Sin City, Villa Miseria (Xibalba's Capital) and Tokatsu (Jigoku's Capital) are also depicted as being hellish cities.
    • Averted with Heck, which is a pretty nice town in Hell for some reason.
  • Christmas Episode: Has two so far:
    • "Merry Fucking Antichristmas", in where Krampus gets sick and can't deliver presents across Hell, so Angel Dust takes up the mantle for the night. Hilarity ensues.
    • "The Origins of Krampus", in where Krampus tells of his backstory and how he fought off Santa Claus.
  • Cool Car: Parodied with the "Phallus 2k3", a really phallic looking car that Angel Dust gave to Cazador as a gift before giving it to Snowcone instead.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Garble. He's not quite right in the head and says a lot of weirds thing, though he means well.
  • Children Are Innocent: Oddly played straight for the most part. Despite being based on an adult comedy show that often crosses several lines, both human and demonic children are portrayed this way.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: John, Leon St. John, Evan Smith, Alex, Calc and many other characters who appeared from Hazbins Hell Hotel do not appear in Hazbin Hotel: Lucifer's Folly despite their prominence in the previous server. This is due to them being overwhelmingly disliked characters and as such, none of them were brought back for when Lucifer's Folly was made.
    • Gore-Illa was one of the Hell Nazis earliest members, being a Nazi experiment of there's and made a few appearances before ultimately fading aways. He (or at least a different version of the character) did later appear in Vroomius Maximus however.
  • Circles of Hell: Hell has seven rings based on the Seven Deadly Sins. Unlike canon, a Sinner can travel to other Rings along with the Hellborns, so as long as they have passport to allow them there. Unlike Hellborns, they can't stay there and are only given limited access.
  • Crapsack World: Hell, but of course. Earth is shown to be not so glamorous either (especially in some places) but a downplayed example compared to Hell.
  • Creepy Doll: Biss, who takes the form of a particularly menacing ragdoll, and has skill with knives.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Charlie and Vaggie. Niffty too.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: Cheepo lacks the mustache needed for the character type, but he makes up for it by with his card carrying villain status, cheap top hat and wacky hair.
  • Deal with the Devil: This is Mephistopheles' expertise, even calling himself "The King of the Deal". He offers favours and riches to mortals in exchange for their souls, often manipulating them into acceptance. What he does with their souls remains unknown.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: How most of the Wrestler Demons end up after being defeated. The Hell Nazis and Gevaudan's gang members seem to perish in a similar way.
  • Dem Bones: El Condor, Captain Blackmore, Pvt. Johner, and (on a heroic example) Krokodil; all of which who are very skeletal looking demons.
  • Demonic Possession: Naturally, given the setting. Stolas, Pazuzu, Lamashtu and Kur are capable of doing this. Apparently in-universe however, possession is seen as a more primitive form of taking on a human form.
  • Demon of Human Origin: Sinners are sinful humans who died on Earth and became demons upon entering Hell.
    • Flaga is a subverted example. She was once human, however she never died—she was transformed into a demon.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: One of the Server's most iconic events was the Attack of the Angel Dust Clones on Halloween 2022: After tampering with Baxter's cloning machine to skip his chores, Angel unleashes an army of horny spiders upon Hell!.
  • Domestic Abuse: What ultimately killed Umbria, her husband Gus slammed her head with a typewriter.
  • Dragons Are Demonic: Lamashtu is depicted in this as a dragoness demoness and is very lethal and cunning. Her son Kur is also a demonic dragon as well.
  • The Dragon: Bonny to Gevaudan Silverwolf's gang and Annobath to Murmur's legion.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Hazbin Hotel: Lucifer's Folly started out much differently. Originally it was not held on it's own server but the main storyline was instead done on server known as Hazbins Hell Hotel, where the creators of HHLF wrote the story originally there. Due to lots of inhouse drama however, the creators later moved and made a server of their own. While many of the original storylines and some things have stayed the same since, there were quite some big differences back then compared to the present (and that's not even getting into what had to be changed to better fit canon):
    • Cazador was originally more silent and grumpy, often refusing to help anyone and just being rude, not to mention he used to be very violent. He had to be convinced to do anything. He later changed into being more of a rational The Everyman who while is cranky, he means well and actually does want to help.
    • Volk used to be more violent back then also and seemed unrepetent of his past as a KGB Soldier. A far cry from his remorseful agent character who doesn't want to be seen as just "another big bad wolf".
    • Gavin, Umbria and Snowcone used to be a lot more amoral in their early appearances. Gavin used to be more manipulative, murderous and used to die a lot. Umbria used to be more cowardly and prone to abandoning her friends back then, even if they helped her. She also was more of an outright villainess back then, in contrast to her more sympathetic portrayal as a ink girl who just wants to run a bar, be successful and live a good life in Hell. Snowcone probably changed the least, but he was depicted as being racist in his earlier appearances and was more bisexual, as opposed to being just gay. He also seemed to have more of an attraction to Gavin, before then switching to Magnus. Even odder, he used to be an outright villain for Angel Dust.
    • Gevaudan Silverwolf in his first appearance sported a different design than later appearances and he didn't have Bonny with him.
    • Leonard was depicted earlier as looking more goat-like and much more detailed looking, before then becoming more cartoony, fluffier and sheep-like.
    • Purr-Vert in her first appearance sported a different design. Other than that, she's been mostly the same.
    • Pvt. Johner was depicted as being much more antagonistic at first, before he later morphed into simply being a kooky gun nut soldier.
    • El Condor was not referred to by name in his very first appearance (being only known as "Patrol Demon Captain") and while he looked the same, his colors were different. He also wasn't shown to be bigoted or shown being as brutal as he usually is in later appearances (ironically one of his targets at the time, John, acted like an even bigger bigot than he was!)
    • Vroomius Maximus in his first appearance had different colors, didn't have a mouth or scarf and also didn't appear to be Japanese at first. Later appearances he made would confirm he is from Jigoku.
    • Ribesal was depicted at first with a different design and was more of a sycophant for Buer. Not to mention he used to be something of a Butt Monkey. Later appearances would change him to be something much more of a real competent menace.
    • Flamey Von Hardoff used to be more ineffective and bumbling, akin to Sir Pentious. Post-retool, while he's still comical he's much more menacing than he ever used to be.
    • On that same token, the Stormfronts were much different back then as well; sporting more realistic Nazi soldier uniforms, having purple skin and pointy ears and having big wall eyes. They were also much more incompetent back then.
    • All royal demons or demons from Demonology used to be referred to interchangeably as "Goetias" before this was corrected.
    • Even the episodes and overall setting used to be much different. Originally when the series was done back on Hazbins Hell Hotel, the stories were more "anime soap opera" like (something Gallibon didn't like) and other than the canons, Cazador, Snowcone, Umbria, Gavin and a very few rare non-human like looking demons, it was mostly filled with very human-like demons that were only demons in name only. Hell felt less like Hell and more like some generic crime city on Earth (ironically enough, Earth itself was very rarely utilized in the original server). A greater emphasis was also made on action and trying to get power through combat, and most of the characters that got the most screentime (even moreso than the canon characters who were treated as secondary at best) were human-like characters like John, Leon St. John, Alex, and Calc. Needless to say, once Gallibon got to make his own server, these more negative elements got phased out and more original demons and better storylines were made, with a greater emphasis on comedy also.
  • Evil Brit: Jailbird Robin, Overlord of Thieves, who died around the end of Colonialism, and holds extremely racist views on Americans.
  • Evil Nerd: Arcadian, the Overlord of Gaming, is a scrawny, mean-spirited, bespectacled, and elitist incel who died on the 1980s, when Video Arcades and comic book shoops were positively buzzing.
  • Evil Gloating: It'd be easier to list the villains who don't do this. Murmur and Gevaudan in particular just love to stop and do this.
  • Fantastic Racism: Angels look down upon the beings of Hell, viewing them as nothing more than kill fodder and deserve to be destroyed and exterminated for being evil creatures.
    • Even Hell's demons don't get along with each other that much. Imps are a low ranking species of demons (if not the lowest ranked demonic species in Hell) and as such are treated like absolute dogcrap by the higher up demons. Melchom and Picollus in particular love to dunk on imps and hellhounds routinely.
    • In some sectors, the gap between Hellborn and Earthborn is much deeper than in Pentagram. In Jigoku, Earth Oni and Youkai have been in a constant state of tension for domain of the Sector, and in Xibalba, Muertos view the Hellborn as little more than animals.
  • Fat Bastard: Behemoth, who in this series is depicted as being a really fat elephant demon who cares about nothing else more than eating.
    • Flumbria and Lamashtu are both portly female versions of this trope and are nasty villainesses that like to cause trouble every now and then.
  • General Ripper: Among Hell's Armed Forces, the Second Legion continues to be heralded by the aging General Buer, who, thanks to senility, has become unstable and violent.
  • Genius Bruiser: Rius Elliott. Intelligent, athletic, and morally correct. He manufactures state-of-the-art weapons, armor, gadgets, and even vehicles, but also possesses the strength to back his beliefs with fists. However, Rius is also a vampire who has to drink blood in order to stay in check, forcing him to live in his mansion, in solitude.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Bael is this to Sector Patrol, being its original founder, the first Fallen Angel, and also implied to be something of a chessmaster.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: Ribesal is a literal example, being a giant lobster demon and is very antagonistic and menacing towards the protagonists.
  • Good Shepherd: Zakonette Mo'demi is one. Not even being in Hell stops her from being a good nun!
  • Hammerspace: A common method for demons. In some cases, they are even seen somehow managing to fit and pull items from somewhere behind their rear. Talk about asspulling!
  • Hell: Where the main setting takes place in, of course.
  • Heaven: While it hasn't been shown yet, it is crucial to the plot as Charlie's goal is to redeem Sinners so that they can get to Heaven.
  • Headless Horseman: Thomas is a headless sinner who is in the possession of a Jack-O-Lantern head and is also a skilled rider
  • Hell Hotel: The Hazbin Hotel, naturally. Although inverted; it's quite easily the nicest place in Hell and is meant for reforming Sinners, much like it's canon counterpart.
    • The Jackpot Hotel seems to play this straight, being a dump of a hotel that has seen better days.
    • The Nether Nightclub is one as well, being the most expensive venue in Hell.
  • Henshin Hero: Vroomius Maximus is one, given he is a spoof of off Tokusatsu heroes. Granted, he isn't much of a hero per say....but is considered one by Jigoku standards anyways.
  • Hidden Badass: This is Jacob, yep, just Jacob. He's a former gang member for the Dreadheads, a former slave in colonial Jamaica, a former Maroon fighter, and a former bounty hunter. Don't make fun of Jacob's name.
  • Hoax Hogan: Morax, down to the mustache. He crosses this with being an expy for Vince McMahon, being the owner and founder of the IWF.
  • I Am Very British: Rubin Cube, Connie's drab, deadpan, and sophisticated British co-host. He's in his 40s and generally considers himself a man of high class, even if he comes as deadpan or boring to most.
  • Identically Named Group: The Maggies! These three shark girls all share the name of Maggie, and include Cool Maggie, Shrink Maggie, and Punk Maggie
  • Inkblot Cartoon Style: How Umbria, the Cartoon Demon, is portrayed. She was a popular lounge singer and socialite in the 1920s, so she fits the period by being a rubberhose toon. Her bar, the Wolfsbane, is just as cartoony.
    • Ditto with her father Garble, who lives on a house he built on Inkwell Hill, and feels straight out of the earliest cartoons, which were far more surrealistic than his daughter's usual brand of mayhem.
  • Joshikousei: Connie, Rubin's excitable Womanchild of a co-star. She's Japanese, and still attended high school before her death, which came days after her 18th birthday.
  • Kent Brockman News: Steve Stinger is shown to be just as amoral and petty as Tom Trench and Katie Killjoy, focusing more on petty drama and gossip and treating it like actual hard hitting news. Danny Mite is also pretty bad with this, barely focusing on sports and more just using it as an excuse to be obnoxious towards others.
  • Killed Off for Real: Since Sinners are already dead, nothing can truly kill them except for angelic weapons, as those can permanently kill off a Sinner. This is why Purges are conducted. Quite a few characters have suffered this fate.
  • Knight Templar: Despite being a cannibalistic and sadistic spree killer, Balt sees himself as a man of God, sent to Hell to punish Sinners.
    • Metatron is a more straight example, being a self-righteous angel who has a sheer hatred for demons and enjoys killing them as he sees them below Heavenkind. He even acts like a condescending dick towards humans and fellow Angels if they do anything even slightly resembling the act of being sinful.
    • Vroomius Maximus is also one, protecting Jigoku from anyone he percieves as "threats", regardless of their morality.
  • Large Ham: Oh boy, there are a lot of hams in Hell. Cheepo for sure takes the cake however.
  • Latin Land: Xibalba, due to being a Sector where all of Latin America's Sinners coexist in harmony. However, not all is fun and games, as El Condor, the captain of its Sector Patrol, keeps Xibalba off-borders for tourists, and executes trespassers with an iron fist.
  • Laugh Track: Appears in "The Meconians" RP for Halloween 2021. Though it appears to be laughing at inappropriate moments (such as Angel Dust getting dragged aways into the dark cellar of the Meconians basement) and sounds very demonic at one point.
  • Lethal Chef: Blitz, oh god Blitz. He thinks chocolate sauce, bread, and sausages all go together. If he cooks, just order takeout.
  • Lethal Joke Character: Froggy is a large plush frog about the size of a basketball. He behaves like a particularly dimwitted child and occasionally murders people.
    • Qreg originated from a doodle one of the mods made of herself. Back in 2023, Qreg actually appeared IRP for the first and (currently) only time, where she ran over Blitzo while IMP was on a hit in Mexico.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Anytime a demon is too eager to go into combat, this happens. Rarely do things go well.
  • Lighter and Softer: Downplayed example, as it's more in tone with Hazbin Hotel as opposed to Helluva Boss. While it's not cheery, very often there is an underlying tone of hope and far less mean spirited humor. It most DEFINITELY is much lighter than it's predecessor Hazbins Hell Hotel, which was too mean spirited for others liking.
  • Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!: Hell is full of diverse amount of demons, ranging from some very humanoid looking demons that have a few odd traits about them, some more animalistic looking demons, some of your typical Hellborns, some completely abominations and then there are some just utterly bizarre demons like a bomb demon, an apple demon or a stick figure demon.
  • Mafia Princess: Maggie is the daughter of a Greed Ring mobster. Crosses over into Daddy's Little Villain, now that she's joined up
  • Mephistopheles: Lucifer's right hand, who wrote the book on gambling, and who wants to demolish the Hazbin Hotel to build a Mephistopolis on the Pride Ring.
  • Mocky Mouse: Fucko the Clown, Hell's favourite multi-media imp clown character and franchise owned by the Fucko Company.
  • Mooks: The Red Riding Hood Armada for Gevaudan's forces, the Stomfronts for the Hell Nazi Army and Murmur's Knights for Murmur's legion.
  • Mister Seahorse: A rare realistic example; Furfur is able to get pregnant due to being trans (female to male) and is currently pregnant with Naberius's child.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Averted with Cazador; he's quite easily one of the nicest and well-meaning patients of the Hotel and also one of Charlie's most loyal patients, even if he's a bit clumsy and hamfisted in his efforts.
  • New Technology Is Evil: Cazador doesn't use social media, seeing it as this.
  • Non-Human Head: Arcadian has a computer monitor for a head, Ransomware has an LED screen-like head, and Al-Coh has a beer bottle for a head.
  • Number of the Beast: It takes place in Hell, so naturally the number 666 shows up a lot.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Cazador has a lot of these whenever something bad happens, but he usually says it in Spanish.
    • Vaggie reacts this way when she finds out Annobath and his forces broke into the Hotel one time.
  • Overpopulation Crisis: Much like the show, demon overpopulation is a problem here and yearly purges are done to deal with it. Charlie's plan is to have the hotel be a new way to stop overpopulation crisis by redeeming Sinners.
  • Perverse Puppet: Gavin, a serial killer reincarnated into an old wooden puppet.
  • Professional Killer: IMP (Blitzo, Moxxie, Millie and Loona) are this trope, running their own business in Hell to target and assassinate people still living on Earth for the damned.
    • Purr-Vert and her friend Sparky Kaboom are this as well.
  • Pro Wrestling Episode: Whenever an arc involves the Infernal Wrestling Federation, Hell's #1 wrestling circuit (IWF for short), which is often headlined by the Overlord of Wrestling, the cruel Rift Landshark.
    • Perhaps played at its straightest when Cazador enters the circuit as a Masked Luchador by the name of The Basilisk to challenge Rift and free his grandfather from Gevaudan's.
  • Punny Name: DEAR GOD THE PUNS. There are so many, as the creators are fond of punny names.
    • Purr-Vert is of course, referring to how Purr-Vert is both a pervert in a literal sense and how she is a cat.
    • Rubin Cube is a pun off of Rubix Cube.
    • Apple Doom is a pun off of "Apple Bloom".
    • Cheepo refers to the fact he is very....cheap.
    • Jungle Bravo is a pun off of jungles (referring to the fact he is a gorilla demon) and of course Johnny Bravo.
  • Rock Me, Asmodeus!: Asides from the obvious example, there's Witch Hammer, the top band of the moment, which is comprised of of Astaroth and Gremory's vocals, Zagan, Sallos, and Vepar's instruments...and the label of Glasya Labolas.
  • Sad Clown: Catherine Medici/Umbria, the owner of the Wolfsbane Bar, tries to be there to help her patrons when they're down, but deep inside hides multiple layers of sorrow from her married life and past that she refuses to share, since, in her words: "no one takes toons like me seriously".
  • Show Within a Show: Many, most notably Fucko the Clown (a series starring Fucko the Clown who does nothing but say "FUCK YOU!" towards anyone he's with on each episode on where he's at), Simpy the Imp Kid (an educational series sponsored by the Second Legion, featuring a cartoony imp child who teaches demon kids the dangers of Heaven), Orobas! (a sitcom starring the Goetic Demon Orobas in the vein of Seinfeld and Vroomius Maximus (a very weird Tokusatsu show starring Vroomius Maximus).
  • Shout-Out:
    • There's a lot of references to Tokusatsu, most obviously "Giant Monster Fat Nuggets" which also featured Cazador briefly becoming an Ultraman Copy. Unsurprisingly, this is due to Gallibon being a huge fan of Tokusatsu.
    • Angel Dust's and Cazador's "Saturday" plot is one big obvious homage to Friday.
    • The "Little Pet Shop of Horrors" is an obvious nod to Little Shop of Horrors.
    • There are a quite a few references here and there to The Hangover.
    • "The Hellraisers" is one long reference to The Sopranos.
  • Skull for a Head: Pvt. Johner and Officer Ray Wilson.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Far too many characters to list. It'd be easier to list the ones who don't.
  • Snake Oil Salesman: Scamley Bugman, the demonic telemarketer, salesman, conspiracy theorist, and above all, scammer.
  • Sociopathic Hero: Vroomius Maximus falls more on the Beware the Superman end, being a Knight Templar with a warped sense of justice that makes him believe that he is in the right
  • Sociopathic Soldier: El Condor, the captain of Xibalba's Sector Patrol, who relishes murdering trespassers, and is unfazed by executing his own men.
    • Mosacus is stated to be one.
  • Speed Demon: Jamell Higgins, a World War II veteran that's able to outrun some of Hell's fastest. Currently a famous track-star of Pentagram's.
    • Vroomius Maximus as well, as he is the Overlord of Racing and can accelerate in both his demon and car form at lightning quick speeds.
  • Stick Figure Animation: Being based on those deranged stick figure comics we've all made at somepoint, Smiley is drawn as a one, complete with choppy movements, and who evokes their trademark Stylistic Suck in his shenanigans. Even his house resembles something like Terrance and Phillip's on its simplicity.
  • Straw Loser: Parodied with Lester Hughlett, aka Heckdoom. He's a massive creep who hasn't won a single fight, and is constantly trying (and failing) to look cool. Also, his voice and costume are annoying.
  • The Talk Show with Host Name: What's the Buzz? With Steve Stinger.
  • Those Two Guys: Picollus and Melchom. Hell's tax collector and legislator, both incredibly old, both very behind the times, and both just as annoying. Nonetheless, they still get along well.
  • Those Wacky Nazis: The Hell Nazi Party, in spades. ESPECIALLY their chief leaders Flamey Von Hardoff, Colonel Klick and General Putz who are depicted as more bumbling, comical and Three Stooges-esque compared to the other major villains. It's implied their incompetence is the sole reason they weren't Purged with the rest of the Nazis.
  • Threatening Shark: Rift Landshark to a T.
    • Mr. Bullets is one too, albeit unlike Rift he chooses not to get his dirty as much and instead operates mostly behind the scenes.
  • Vice City: Pentagram City and Imp City, much like how the are in canon.
  • Villain Protagonist: Blitzo, Moxxie, Millie and Loona remain this way. To a lesser degree, Murmur can be this due to how many focus R Ps he receives.
  • The Yardies: If you go to Cthulhu Beach, be careful of "The Dreadheads", a Jamaican street gang that makes up an entire state militia. The gang went through two leaders, Al-Coh and Metallo, both of whom are no slouches. But now, a third has arrived. His name is Vasco De-Balboa Dread. He has morals unlike Metal Dread. And he helped the gang turn a new leaf.
    • Abisai Dread, who used to be a top enforcer for the gang, is no longer part of the Dreadheads. He now goes by Abisai Higgins, in which he's the Great Grandson of Jamell Higgins. Abisai Higgins is now a security member at the Hazbin Hotel.
