Fanfic / The Forbidden Drink

Go To

The Forbidden Drink is a fanfic of The Owl House by Jss2141, based on an idea, and co-written, by Mr. Hardcor3. The fic diverges in "Thanks to Them", in which a dying Luz drinks the vial of Titan's Blood as a way of ensuring Belos never gets it. The blood successfully heals Luz, and ironically enough transforms her into a half-Titan. It can be read here, here, or here.

The story is now complete, and is followed by the sequels The Forbidden Drink II: Return of the Titans (which can be read here or here) and The Forbidden Drink III: Titanic Problems (which can be read here or here). It's expected for there to be three main stories making up what is called the Blue Beverage AU, though a short side story called Return of the Titans: Amity's Mission (found here and here) has also been published.

Beware of spoilers for earlier stories in the later stories' folders.

This fanfic provides examples of:

    The Forbidden Drink
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Luz had no idea that drinking the Titan's blood would make her a half-Titan hybrid and save her life, she was just trying to keep it out of Belos's hands as she was dying.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Unlike canon, Luz doesn't see through the illusion that the Collector puts her in, leading to her brainwashed friends nearly beating her to death before she instinctively fights them off with a Super-Scream that breaks the illusion. This leaves them all feeling incredibly guilty afterwards, and worse, Luz is left feeling scared of Amity in particular.
  • Adaptational Badass: Drinking the Titan Blood gives Luz enhanced strength, a Super-Scream, and inherent magical powers; while this was also true in canon, there it was only during the Final Battle and was only temporary, while here it's much sooner and appears to be permanent. And once she's imbued with Papa Titan's remaining power, she turns into a full-sized Titan capable of evenly matching Belos' own Titan form in a one-on-one fight. While this transformation wears off after the battle's over, Luz in left in her canonical hybrid form, presumably leaving her as powerful as she was in canon.
  • Adaptational Curves: Due to the effects the Titan Blood has on her body, Luz gains a muscular physique she never had in canon.
  • Adaptational Karma:
    • Kikimora got off far too easy after what she did in Season 3, but here she almost dies by Luz's hand after critically injuring Camila and is further injured by the Hexside Resistance led by the newly hooked-up Boscha and Amelia.
    • While Boscha isn't as antagonistic as she was in Season 3, she's turned into a puppet.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: At the end of the story, Eda's hair turns pitch black due to her curse's aftereffects.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Boscha was close with Amelia to the point her and Cat being collected left a deep mental scar on her, but now it turns out Boscha and Amelia have feelings for each other and confess not long after Kikimora performs her coup.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Ingesting Titan Blood results in Luz evolving into a half-Titan hybrid. This also happens to Camila after she gives Luz CPR after Belos drains her of her blood to make a new portal.
  • All Your Colors Combined: Luz's penultimate attack against Belos in the Final Battle involves combining every single glyph she knows into a single blast that she delivers via Megaton Punch, punching a hole clean through his chest.
  • Alpha Bitch: Tracey, the head cheerleader at Luz's school, whom Luz and Masha hate for being a snooty and bullying popular girl cliche.
  • Amazon Chaser: Amity makes no secret of the fact that she is very appreciative of Luz's new muscles.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Luz's muscle mass is significantly increased by her transformation, and the mere sight of her muscles makes Amity blush so hard she temporarily melts into abomination goop.
  • And I Must Scream:
    • Amelia describes being transformed into a puppet as being like this. She's not even sure how much time she'd been under until someone tells her.
    • Amity finds it'll be even worse for Cat, whose puppet form she finds with a missing leg, arm, eye, and several stab marks in her face.
  • And This Is for...: After mortally wounding Belos, Luz tells him it was for everyone he used and killed, then dedicates the killing blow to Caleb and Flapjack.
  • Anger Born of Worry: When Luz wakes up the day after she drank the Titan's blood, Amity is both relieved that she's alive and pissed that she did something like that, shaking and telling Luz that she'll freeze her in Abomination goo if she ever tries something like that again.
  • Ascended Extra: Masha sadly only got a minor role in canon season three. Here, they end up learning about Belos, even helping fight against him before he and the Hexsquad returns to the Isles.
  • Background Magic Field: Luz has a personal version due to drinking the Titan's blood, allowing others to use glyphs on Earth near her, and giving her own glyphs a significant boost.
  • Behemoth Battle: After she's imbued with Papa Titan's power by his spirit, Luz is transformed into a full-sized Titan, and uses this to fight Belos' own Titan form head-to-head.
  • Berserk Button:
    • When Belos misgenders Masha by calling them a girl, then reveals himself as a Politically Incorrect Villain when they correct him, Masha outright attacks him in righteous fury.
    • The sight of Kikimora injuring Camila causes Luz to attack her in a fit of rage.
  • Big Eater: Post-transformation, Luz has to eat a lot more than a regular human. It gets to the point that Willow has to grow fruit for her to eat.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Belos is killed thus ending his reign of terror on the Boiling Isles, but the damage he leaves lingers. Luz nearly died four times at his hands, becomes half-Titan, and now she can't face her friends or Amity because of what they said to her, not to mention nobody can figure out who mutilated Cat and she has to remain a puppet since the damage she took would kill her upon restoration to flesh. However, Luz can still use her glyphs and she and Camila are both Titans, so King is no longer the Last of His Kind.
  • Brutal Honesty: In Luz's Collector-induced nightmare, the rest of the Hexsquad air out their hatred towards her from before she became friends with them (Willow over using her as her abomination, Gus from bringing her to Hexside for his own selfish gain, Amity over the Covention before learning Lilith forced her to cheat, and Hunter from when Luz prevented his palismen capture.) All of them later regret ever having those feelings toward her after all that she's suffered for them.
  • Came Back Strong: After being revived by drinking the Titan's blood, not only does Luz have Super-Strength, but she can use glyphs on Earth, with the power to turn Belos' weak water glyph combination into a massive geyser.
  • Coup de Grâce: After mortally wounding Belos with her combined glyph attack, Luz uses a Super-Scream to finish him off, not stopping until his body has completely dissolved.
  • Crush Blush:
    • Vee blushes when Masha asks if she wants to go to the movies with them.
    • Amelia makes Boscha blush after saying she hopes to marry her and makes it worse by pecking Boscha on the cheek.
  • Demonic Possession: Belos ends up possessing Tracey in order to get close enough to attack Luz at school.
  • Disney Death: Luz nearly pushes up daisies at Belos' hands four times including her Heroic Sacrifice in protecting the Collector. Before that point;
    • First she's injured in the graveyard battle, which leads to her drinking the Titan Blood.
    • Second, Belos attacks and kidnaps Luz to drain her of her blood so he can return to the Demon Realm, Camila performing CPR and using a healing glyph to save her.
    • And third/finally, Luz is nearly beaten to death at the hands of her collected friends and girlfriend during her Collector-induced nightmare, using the Bi Blast to save herself after Papa Titan tells her to wake up.
  • Emergency Transformation: A completely unintentional example. Luz had no idea drinking the Titan's blood would heal her, let alone give her Titan powers.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Eda's hair turns black after she taps into the full power of her curse to keep Belos' Meat Moss at bay.
  • Extreme Omnivore: When Luz first wakes up after drinking the Titan's blood she's so hungry that she eats an entire chicken, including the bones. The fact that it cured her lactose intolerance as well is barely an afterthought compared to that.
  • Eye Scream:
    • During the fight with Kikimora, Camila shoots at her, and said shot goes through one of her head "fingers" and hits her eye.
    • Among the other injuries sustained by the puppet of Cat, they're also missing an eye.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • The divergence of the story is that, as mentioned above, Luz drinks the Titan's blood to keep it out of the hands of Belos after being fatally wounded by him, inadvertently transforming her into a human/Titan hybrid.
    • Belos and the Hexsquad staying in the Human Realm longer leads to Masha learning about the existence of magic.
    • When Terra knocks Amelia down, Amelia lands on a light glyph, freeing her from the Collector's control early.
    • Emira ended up collected saving Edric, who is less seriously injured here.
    • Thanks to Amelia's return, Kikimora ends up turning on Boscha early.
    • Unlike canon, Boscha is turned into a puppet (albeit temporarily).
    • The Hexsquad go to the Skull without Camila, due to her injuries.
    • Luz finds herself literally sinking into darkness during her Collector-induced nightmare.
    • Raine manages to prevent Belos from fusing with the Titan's heart, so he instead drinks from the heart's veins, transforming into a half-Titan like Luz.
    • Luz manages to thank Eda and King for what they've done for her before she dies from Belos' Meat Moss.
    • Alador, Willow's dads, Darius, and Eberwolf are freed from their puppet stasis before Belos begins his final assault.
    • While Luz fights Belos, Eda, King, and the Collector protect Hexside with Eda resorting to using the curse's effects with her Bard magic to corrode Belos' corruption.
    • Camila temporarily dies, comes back to life as a half-Titan, and helps the Collector keep the Archives in the air by pushing it up from underneath.
  • A God Am I: While normally A God I Am Not, Luz claims to be a god when talking to Boscha, apparently just to mess with her.
  • A God I Am Not: While she admits that she might technically be considered a god due to being half-Titan when Masha asks, Luz makes it clear that she doesn't want to be worshiped or treated like one.
  • Groin Attack: Luz delivers one to Belos during the Final Battle, citing Eda's thoughts about fighting fair being for suckers.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: During their Final Battle, Luz makes a point of using glyph combinations she learned from Belos' old journal against him.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Although he's delayed for a bit, Belos does manage to make it back to the Demon Realm in chapter 18, with the Hexsquad following him there just like in canon.
    • Luz realizes her Goal in Life by the time the Hexsquad reaches the Titan's skull, which is when Stringbean hatches from her egg.
    • Luz gets put through her own worst nightmare and is killed by Belos defending the Collector from him.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: After seeing the scar on Luz's cheek which she got from puppet-Amity in her nightmare, Eda immediately accuses the girl of being no better than Odalia until Luz clears things up.
  • Lustful Melt: It becomes a running gag that every time Luz shows off the advantages to her new body or abilities, Amity melts into a puddle of abomination goo. The rest of the cast has a field day teasing her about it.
  • Make-Out Kids: After spending almost three months as a puppet, Amelia wastes no time making up for losing all the time she could've made out with Boscha after they hook up.
  • Meaningful Echo: Like in "Watching and Dreaming", Luz brings up magic coming from a witch's heart in the midst of the final battle. This time however, it doubles as a Badass Boast as she mocks Belos for never learning this fact, taking him by surprise when she punches him through the heart before killing him once and for all.
  • No-Sell: When the Collector's servants try to turn Luz into a puppet, she discovers that she's immune to the process.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Belos, of course. While his actual feelings on the matter aren't discussed in canon, here it’s made clear that he "won’t tolerate" LGBTQ+ humans.
  • Put on a Bus:
    • Once the Hexsquad and Camila return to the Demon Realm, Vee drops out of the story due to staying on Earth to cover for Camila and get Masha up to speed (not to mention jumping at the chance at going on a date with them).
    • After Belos accomplishes becoming half-Titan, Raine disappears after Belos begins growing with their fate unrevealed until the next story.
  • Running Gag: Amity going into a Lustful Melt over Luz, or at least being teased about doing so.
  • Ship Tease: The last chapter imples Skara has feelings for Cat since she takes seeing her damaged state worse than the rest of her friends or Amity.
  • Shout-Out: All Luz can say when Willow and Vee see her newly muscular physique is "Hey", which they find understating.
  • Super-Scream: Luz gains this power just like she does in her canon Titan form. Due to its coloration, she dubs this attack the Bi Blast.
  • Super-Strength: After drinking the Titan's blood, Luz is strong enough that she can lift Amity with just a few fingers.
  • Super-Toughness: Being half-Titan means that Luz is significantly more durable than normal.
  • Whale Egg: Luz notes that if she and Amity ever have any children, then she would probably lay eggs since King was born from one.

    Return of the Titans
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • Continuing from the previous story, Luz is still dealing with the trauma of her collected friends almost beating her to death, doing her best to avoid them all and not face it. Though then it turns out that she doesn't actually blame them for that; in truth, the reason she's avoiding them is because she's still carrying the guilt of having helped Belos as Phillip, blaming herself for everything he did as a result, including his rampage as a Titan.
    • Cat, who in canon was just a background character and was never shown to have suffered anymore than anyone else from being turned into a puppet, is here dealing with the trauma of having been mutilated while in that state, as well as her parents completely neglecting her.
    • Skara was a somewhat more prominent minor character in canon, but even in that additional time never had anything too bad happen to her. Here, we find out that both her parents died during the Day of Unity.
    • Raine was severely injured during Belos' transformation into a Titan, and has been left comatose ever since.
    • While canon never addressed it, here it's confirmed that many people did die either on the Day of Unity or during Belos' Titan rampage, with many also still missing.
  • Adaptational Karma: Odalia likely suffered from the draining spell, became the Collector's maid, and lost her company, but still came out none the worse for wear from Belos' final attack in canon even if Alador got a divorce from her. Now, for all the abuse she put Amity through, disabling Cat, allowing the deaths of hundreds from the draining spell including Skara's parents, attempting to kill Luz, and trying to use Grom to conquer the Isles, Odalia is savagely beaten up by the Hexsquad, then Skara and Cat before the latter two kill her once and for all.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Chapter 10 shows how Lilith got her harpy form.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Cat's name wasn't said to be a nickname in the show: the story, however, reveals it's short for Catrina in the epilogue.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Malphas refers to Lilith as "Lilybug".
  • Aliens Speaking English: Lampshaded by Eda, who questions why they speak English despite it being a human language.
  • Almost Kiss: Happens between Skara and Cat after their Love Confession, due to Amity calling Skara to inform her that Odalia stabbed Luz and she needs to bring Cat to the Owl House.
  • Anti-Magic:
    • Eda has mastered the corruptive aspects of her curse, which she calls corruption magic and which she can now use to disperse any spells thrown at her.
    • Odalia goes after Luz with a blade that belonged to the Archivists, and is thus designed to cancel out a Titan's Healing Factor.
  • Back from the Dead: After Hunter becomes a Titan, his massive power boost allows Flapjack's spirit to physically manifest.
  • Berserk Button:
    • After revealing her new arm to Luz, Eda mocks her for her lack of observation to provoke her into their training session. In turn, Luz mocks Eda's age and physique which gets an instant rise out of Eda.
    • Amity, annoyed by Willow mocking her for melting due to Luz's attractiveness and bragging about being able to turn into plant matter and maintain control over it, calls her a "young Terra Snapdragon". Willow is naturally pissed.
    • Hurting Boscha in front of Amelia has the same effect as the other way around.
  • Big Bad: Odalia. Not only did they damage Cat's body in the previous story, they fashioned her missing eye into a ring and has been looking for a way to kill Luz, while also planning to unleash Grom in order to terrorize the isles into submission.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Lilith and her parents' reactions when Eda reveals that they're descended from Evelyn and Caleb, thus making them related to Belos.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Masha addresses the readers several times across the story, something Vee calls them out on the first time.
  • Brick Joke: One Played for Drama. After Willow gets scarred by Odalia in Chapter 22, Luz throws a boulder into the atmosphere to release her anger. In the epilogue, said boulder ends up hitting an Archivist, letting them know that there are still living Titans.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Eda's commentary on witches speaking English comes up in the middle of a fight with a mysterious masked figure. Raine has to remind her to focus.
  • Clingy Costume: Discussed and defied with Luz's outfit in her hybrid form, as Amelia is surprised to find that she can remove her hat, having assumed it was part of her body.
  • Commonality Connection: Upon learning about Skara's parents having died, Luz compares it to her own father's death and how she likewise tried to repress her feelings about it.
  • Creepy Souvenir: Whoever attacked Cat turned her missing eye into a ring she wears on her finger.
  • Crystal Dragon Jesus: Luz notes with some amusement how between her resurrection as a god and the fact that her birthday happens to be on December 25, she's basically the witch equivalent of Jesus.
  • Do with Him as You Will: Despite the fact that Odalia personally wronged them by driving their friendship apart, as well as inflict 15 years of mental and physical abuse on the former, Amity and Willow opt not to kill her, though not without severely wounding and torturing her beforehand, instead deciding to let Skara, whose parents died from the Draining Spell and whom Odalia allowed to die by doing nothing about it, and Cat, whom Odalia crippled for life and ripped out her eye while she was a puppet, finish her off.
  • Driving Question: Who mutilated Cat? The Hexsquad is on high alert trying to track them down fearing they'll commit atrocities on Belos' level. Sure enough, Chapter 18 finally puts a face to the culprit: Odalia Blight.
  • Emotional Powers: Their rage at Odalia for nearly killing Luz, on top of everything else she's done, speeds up the Hexsquad's transformation into Titans as the blood they ingested reacts to their emotions.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Vee doesn't like Tracey, but still feels bad for how traumatized she was by being possessed by Belos.
  • Evil Is Petty: The ultimate reason for Cat's mutilation: Odalia wanted Revenge by Proxy on Amity for betraying her, so she decided to start harming her friends, but was interrupted before she could hurt anyone else besides Cat. On top of that, Odalia stabs Luz with an Archivist blade that could kill her and intends to use Grom to become feared by the population of the Isles in order to rule it.
  • Eye Scream: Odalia is finally killed by Cat ramming her hook through their eye into the brain.
  • Facial Horror: Odalia throws acid onto Willow's roots while she's transformed into a plant and using them to scout out the former's hideout, causing the damage to transfer to Willow's face. Even after being treated with a healing glyph, she's left with a large scar.
  • Face Your Fears: Tracey does this in Chapter 29 after being attacked by Grom. Finding herself surrounded by mirrors which depict her pre-scarring and pre-Character Development self mocking her, she finally decides to stop hating herself for what she was like and what she's suffered, fighting back to shatter all the mirrors and escape the illusion.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Up till Chapter 14, Eda didn't notice the ring on her hand which signifies her marriage to Raine.
  • Familiar: In Chapter 21, Vee takes Masha to the Bat Queen to receive a palisman. In a unexpected twist, Tracey obtains one of her own when she tells the cracked goose palisman her own greatest desire: to look at herself and smile again.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Cat feels this way about the crippled state she's been left in since her puppet form was mutilated during the Collector's reign, leaving her missing an arm, a leg, and an eye.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Amity considers the person who mutilated Cat is considered to be as vile as Belos. Later, Willow, Gus, and Hunter immediately and simultaneously text Amity when they spot that person in the forest. Once Amelia learns from Cat that the assailant had purple lipstick, she realizes it's Amity's disowned mother, Odalia.
    • After seeing Tracey's proficiency with the plant glyph, Masha asks the readers if they've guessed which track they'll be in in the third story.
  • The Gadfly: Chapter 3 shows Camila getting in her motherly teasing towards Vee regarding her relationship with Masha, which makes the basilisk fear she's going to do something drastic out of embarrassment.
  • Get Out!: Skara shouts this at Amelia when the latter comes into her house unannounced, specifically when she's about to stumble on the room where Skara's parents' coffins are kept.
  • Glorified Sperm Donor: In Chapter 30 Amity mentally refers to Odalia as a "living incubator" in what is a gender-inverted variant of the trope, planning to make sure that she dies for mutilating Cat and trying to kill Luz.
  • A God Am I: As in the previous story, Luz temporarily ditches her usual aversion of this trope in order to threaten Cat's awful family into leaving her and Skara alone, framing it as a divine command.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • With Luz continuing to avoid Amity and the rest of the Hexsquad, Amity binds herself and Luz together with an Everlasting Oath which will kill Amity unless Luz tells the truth about why she's been avoiding her and their friends, forcing Luz to confess why.
    • In Chapter 28, after Odalia nearly kills Luz, the rest of the Hexsquad decide that the only way they can guarantee they're strong enough to beat her is by drinking Luz's blood and becoming Titans as well.
  • Hallucinations: Tracey is shown to be suffering from hallucinations of her old Alpha Bitch persona mocking her for her scars and trauma from her time possessed by Belos.
  • He Who Must Not Be Named: It has become an unwritten law in the Boiling Isles to never speak Belos' name, instead just referring to him as "that man".
  • Hidden Depths: During the intervention, Steve brings up working as an interrogations officer during his time as a scout, so he knows when someone's lying.
  • History Repeats: Eda fears that she taught Luz too well, as the half-Titan is running from her problems instead of confronting them, like Eda did back when she and Raine were dating. She also decides to adopt Skara to keep her from experiencing what she did after growing up with her curse.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Luz denies that she still has lingering issues with Amity after the previous story, and says that if she were to show up at the Owl House's door, Luz would ask her out on the spot. Then Luz opens the door and sees that Amity is in fact there, at which point Luz slams the door in her face and flees out the back.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Between Vee and Tracey, as Tracey is straight and aromantic.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Cat is so depressed about her crippled state and her parents ignoring her that she tells her friends they're lucky to have their parents. What she doesn't know is that Skara's parents were killed by the Draining Spell.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • In Chapter 9, Eda explains her corruption magic to Lilith and their parents, and reveals how their family is related to Belos through Evelyn and Caleb.
    • In Chapter 11, Luz, Amity, Boscha, and Amelia learn about the deaths of Skara's parents. Eda finds out about it in the next chapter when Luz comes to her for help with the situation.
    • In Chapter 15, Tracey gets a full lore dump about Titans and the Demon Realm from Vee, Masha, and Camilla.
    • In Chapter 18, Amelia and Boscha inform Cat about Skara's parents' deaths and her adoption by Eda and Raine.
    • In Chapter 22, the Hexsquad finally find out that Odalia is the one they're hunting.
  • Just Friends: Lilith says as much about herself and Malphas when Eda learns of the latter's Affectionate Nickname for her.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: In Chapter 11, Luz, Amity, Boscha, and Amelia break into Skara's house to find out what she's hiding and why she's pushing away all her friends. Discovering the break-in, Skara attacks the group, refusing to talk things out and just being desperate to get them out of the house before they discover her parents' coffins.
  • Love Confession: In Chapter 26, Cat tells Skara that she has feelings for her and was afraid of never getting to tell her if she stayed a puppet. Skara blushingly confesses her own feelings and the girls hook up, leading to an Almost Kiss.
  • Make Sure He's Dead: Cat kills Odalia by stabbing her through the eye, then drops her off the roof of Hexside, and then Skara sets her on fire, just to be sure.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: While exploring Melody Manor, Eda and Raine are attacked by a sword-wielding witch in a mask and black cloak.
  • Meaningful Echo: After vowing with Luz to help the half-titan girl get over her fear, Amity repeats the words Luz once said to her when they were in Willow's mind: "We can fix this together."
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: The Titan-empowered Hexsquad, along with Skara and Cat, brutally beat Odalia in revenge for all her crimes.
  • No-Sell:
    • Eda's corruption magic doesn't work on Luz's Bi Blast attack, as that's Titan magic, not witch magic.
    • Luz mentions that her Titan biology makes her immune to most potions and poisons.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Masha somehow goes from following Vee and Tracey from a distance behind them, watching them enter the historical society, to being seated at their desk inside by the time the two of them finish walking through the doors. Vee is understandably very confused by this.
  • Oh, Crap!: Odalia's reaction upon finding herself facing the Hexsquad after they've gained Titan powers and are understandably enraged at her actions.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Luz's reaction to being mortally wounded again, this time by Odalia.
  • Omniglot: As a side effect of being a Titan, Luz can instantly learn any demonic language, as demonstrated by her now being able to communicate flawlessly with Eberwolf.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Skara is a Nice Girl and rarely gets violent. She attacks Amelia when she nearly enters the room where her parents' coffins are and fights off her, Luz, Amity, and Boscha when they attempt to enter the room by force.
  • Parental Neglect: In all the time Cat's been recovering the hospital, her parents haven't visited her once since they've been helping to restore the Isles. Cat, bitter because her parents had been no different from Odalia (at least in terms of wanting their daughters to succeed), believes they assumed her dead and only care about her more accomplished older brother.
  • Parental Substitute: Hunter admits that Darius is his only positive father figure.
  • Power Perversion Potential: It's implied that Masha's mind goes in this direction when they learn that Vee can shapeshift not just into a human but anything she can imagine.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: It's revealed in Chapter 26 that Skara is a princess of the Elemental Mages, a subspecies of witches long ago banished to another Titan.
  • Related in the Adaptation: While there's no evidence that Tracey and Masha even know each other canonically, here it's revealed in Chapter 13 that they're cousins.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Luz and Amity give one to Cat's family in the final chapter for their terrible treatment of her.
  • The Reveal:
    • After making her deal with the Owl Beast, Eda gained the use of "corruption magic", so she can now destroy her opponent's spells or make corrupted variants of them, including glyphs.
    • Luz is now immune to potions and poisons, telling Boscha that a truth potion wouldn't work on her during the surprise intervention.
    • Raine ended up comatose after Belos attacked them while transforming in the castle, Cat was restored to mortal form, and among the victims of the Draining Spell are Skara's parents.
    • Tracey is now capable of using glyph magic in the Human Realm due to Camila giving off her own Background Magic Field.
    • Eda married Raine while she was drunk and they were still a puppet, and Lilith officiated the ceremony.
    • Odalia was the one who mutilated Cat.
    • The cloaked figure who attacks Eda and Raine while they're exploring Melody Manor is Skara's great-uncle and a member of a lost tribe of witches that were long ago banished to another Titan beyond the Boiling Isles, of which Skara's family are royalty.
    • Odalia only mutilated Cat in order to harm Amity by proxy.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The Hexsquad go on one against Odalia once they realize they're the one who maimed Cat, going into full Unstoppable Rage when they scar Willow as well.
  • Running Gag: The one from the first book about Amity melting into Abomination goo due to being aroused by Luz comes back in Chapter 19.
  • Sealed with a Kiss: Before The Stinger occurs, Skara and Cat finally share a kiss after the Hexsquad tells off Cat's family.
  • Sequel Hook: As of the end of the story, the threat of Skara's relatives the Elemental Mages is still on the horizon, and worse, in the final scene the Archivists are shown awakening, having become aware of the new Titans.
  • Shipper on Deck: Downplayed with Amelia, who supports Skara and Cat getting together but isn't going to be pushy about it, wanting them to figure it out on their own.
  • Shout-Out: A few are made to Moringmark comics;
    • After the intense training with Eda, Stringbean turns into a fluffy puffball for Luz to use as a pillow, a nod to "Stress Reliever".
    • Eda marrying Raine takes inspiration from "They Know".
    • Hunter mentions that Darius is the closest thing he has to a positive father figure.
  • Someone's Touching My Butt: While exploring Melody Manor, tripping on the way to the basement results in Luz falling on top of Amelia with her hand on Amelia's behind.
  • Spirit Advisor: Luz has apparently stayed in regular contact with Papa Titan's spirit for advice on how to be a Titan.
  • Staging an Intervention: In Chapter 2, Luz's loved ones try to confront her over how she's been avoiding Amity and the others after what happened in her Collector-induced nightmare, but she escapes when they're not looking.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Luz is very uncomfortable with how many people in the Boiling Isles now deify her.
  • This Cannot Be!: Odalia's reaction when Amity turns into a Titan.
  • Time Skip: One month has passed since Belos' defeat; in that time, Luz has been helping with restoring the Isles and is still avoiding her friends and Amity due to what happened in her nightmare. At the same time in the Human Realm, Camila has been adjusting to being half-Titan, Vee and Masha are now dating, Gravesfield's population is now slowly accepting the idea of the supernatural existing, and Tracey has been distancing herself from everybody.
  • Title Drop: Luz says that it's time for the return of the Titans when her friends prepare to drink her blood and become Titans too.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Just like Eda in canon, Lilith has a sleeping nettles-induced Vision Quest that enables her to make peace with the Raven Beast, allowing her to access the harpy form she was shown in the canonical Distant Finale.
    • Willow has grown so powerful that she can transform herself into a plant at will.
    • The Hexsquad all drink Luz's blood to become Titans so that they're strong enough to defeat Odalia.
  • The Unmasqued World: Downplayed with Gravesfield. Following Belos' rampage after possessing Tracey and kidnapping Luz in the previous story, the town is willing to believe in the existence of the supernatural, they just don't go out of their way to openly discuss it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Luz can now shift between her human, hybrid, and full Titan forms at will, though the latter takes a lot out of her.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 16 has Eda and Raine officially adopt Skara while Luz, at Amity's prodding, forgives Willow, Gus, and Hunter for what happened in her nightmare before the Hexsquad heads off to hunt down Cat's mutilator.
    • In Chapter 28, the rest of the Hexsquad drink Luz's blood to become Titans as well, in order to become strong enough to beat Odalia. Meanwhile, Odalia prepares to free Grom in order to terrorize the isles into submission.
  • Wham Shot: Tracey somehow using glyph magic on Earth.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: At some point during the Time Skip, Eda evidently got so drunk that she married the comatose Raine and then blacked out the experience.
  • You Killed My Father: An indirect example. Skara holds Odalia responsible for her parents' deaths because she knew about the draining spell and didn't warn anyone about it.

    Amity's Mission
  • All for Nothing: Amity spends the week before Luz's birthday trying to find a perfect gift for her girlfriend. She manages to get an autographed copy of the fifth Azura book, but it gets ruined right before Amity reaches the Noceda residence. It's subverted when Mildred delivers a copy of the yet-to-be-released sixth volume to Luz herself, and fixes the ruined book for Amity.
  • Birthday Episode: This story's plot is about Amity trying to find a birthday present for Luz. Since Luz's birthday is on Christmas Day, it doubles as a Christmas Episode.
  • Call-Back: After meeting Mildred Featherwhyle and learning she's a witch, Amity remembers when she and Luz had the same theory.
  • Flipping the Bird: Amity does this to the twins when they play up her unwanted worship.
  • Internal Reveal: Amity tells Mildred everything that's happened in the last six months with Belos' demise and the rise of new Titans.
  • Shout-Out: During an Azura book signing, Amity learns that Mildred Featherwhyle a witch as well, like in Moringmark's "Post-Ending". However, while Mildred found her portal the same way Eda did in the comic, this short story says she created it herself.
  • Take That!: A book on the history of Disney is treated as a Tome of Eldritch Lore, and Malphas describes the company as being worse than Belos.
  • Time Skip: A month has passed since the Hexsquad became Titans and killed Odalia.

    Titanic Problems
  • Amazon Chaser: We are reminded yet again that Amity is this, as her reaction to seeing how jacked Camilla has become is to hope that Luz inherits that from her.
  • Big "NO!": Eda's reaction when Raine suggests sending the kids to live in the Human Realm for their own protection after the Titan Trappers attack.
  • Big "WHAT?!": The Hexsquad's joint reaction upon learning about Skara being Queen of the Elemental Mages.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Titan Trappers return to target Luz and the others.
  • Cassandra Truth: The Collector tried to clear things with the Titan Trappers, but they apparently either didn't listen or assumed that he was brainwashed or something.
  • Continuity Nod: Luz is uncomfortable with just hearing the word "petrification" after Belos nearly did it to her on the Day of Unity.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When the Titan Trappers attack the Owl House in Chapter 4, the Titan residents (and Cat) easily wipe the floor with them, with their only significant blow being a cut on one of Amity's wings. Then Eda shows up and kills them all in seconds.
  • Destination Defenestration: Luz throws one of the Titan Trappers out a window during the fight at the Owl House.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Luz's reaction to seeing via a scrying spell some random guy at the gym hitting on Camilla is to immediately become paranoid and overprotective, even when Amity points out that her mother can take care of herself. And when King walks in and sees the same thing, he asks if they're going to kill the guy.
  • Fantastic Racism: In addition to hating Titans, the Titan Trappers hate humans because they blame Luz for "defeating" the Collector.
  • Happily Adopted: In addition to having adopted Skara in the previous story, it's revealed that since then, Eda and Raine have adopted Cat as well.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Raine needs a cup of apple blood to deal with the stress after hearing about the Titan Trappers' attack on the Owl House (and fending off calls from Luz and Cat to complain about Eda grounding them for their own protection afterwards).
  • Long-Distance Relationship: Cat and Skara have been in one since Skara decided to travel overseas.
  • Mama Bear: Eda is furious to find the Titan Trappers attacking her kids (now including Cat since she and Raine took her in), and slaughters them in response.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Cat and Skara's reaction when they realize that the Titan Trappers are heading for the Heart, and might even be looking to get Titan power themselves.
    • Luz's reaction when she realizes that the Trappers are planning to summon the Archivists.
  • The Reveal:
    • After traveling overseas, Skara began training with the Elemental Mages.
    • Tracey is now studying at the University of Wild Magic and is a prodigy in plant magic due to bonding with her plants in a way other witches can't.
  • Right Through the Wall: Luz and Amity's make-out sessions are so intense that Cat and King can hear them in their own rooms, leaving them wishing that the Owl House's walls were soundproofed.
  • Time Skip: A little under three years has passed since the previous story by the time this one starts.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Skara has taken her place as the Queen of the Elemental Mages and can now use multiple types of Elemental Magic.
    • Cat's refined her capabilities with using her hook hand and fake leg, which is equipped with steel toes.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The story opens with the Archivists discussing their plans for eliminating the new Titans.
