Heroes
Aoba Yuki
Yuki is a falcon who had been abandoned by her parents when she was still an egg and had to survive in the icy temperatures of the Shuigang Snowfields. In her early teens, she would start using her Affinity, that allows her to manipulate ice, subconsciously. After she injures a few members of the Red Scarves out of self-defense she gets frequently hunted down by them.
- An Ice Person: Her Affinity allows Yuki to create and control ice. It's sometimes exaggerated as she is also seen killing various characters.
- Broken Bird
- Hyper-Awareness: An ability Yuki developed during her childhood.
- Ice Queen: She shows a few traits of being one, and it only becomes more apparent once Yuuto shatters her trust.

Part II - Aimi Akari: Spirit Trials
Overview
Spirit Trials is the second installment of the Iris of Vortex series, centering around veteran Scarf Aimi Akane and the rest of her Five-Man Band. Initially starting as a bit of Slice of Life for the first one-third, the story enters a bigger arc revolving around a McGuffin that corrupts the minds of those who seek them.
The setting, characters, and plot points were heavily inspired by The Five Scarves.
Story arcs and their source material
- Chaos Ensamble Arc: The entire Five Scarves Scarves trilogy.
Hanna dies. - Affinium Chase Arc: The first two books of the Five Scarves Elemental trilogy.
- Jade Alliance/Aquila Arc: The last book of the Five Scarves Elemental trilogy, as well as the entire Five Scarves Dragonkin trilogy.
- Actionized Adaptation: Sprit Trials has more action sequences than the fic it is based on.
- Adaptational Alternate Ending
- Adaptation Inspiration: If only because of the additions of the more bizarre Affinities, it is slightly Darker and Edgier than the source material.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
- Hanna and Maria have been made an Official Couple.
- Alternate Timeline: The entire series is a Merged Reality, and by that, an alternative timeline of alternate timelines.
- Anyone Can Die: Main characters aren't completely safe either.
- Almost Kiss
- Bloodier and Gorier: Downplayed but applying.
- Character Exaggeration
- Demoted to Extra: Xander, originally a major character and part of the Five Scarves, only appears during the later parts of the Scarves arc and disappears as quickly as he is introduced.

- Disowned Adaptation: Most likely the case (after reading this).
- Mineral MacGuffin: The Affinium crystals.
- One Head Taller: Hanna and Maria.
- Pun-Based Title: The title "Spirit Trials" refers to the "spirit"/Affinity and the "trials" the characters go through to become stronger.
- Recycled In Space: Downplayed. It could be considered "Five Scarves but with Affinities".
