Characters / Release That Witch Witch Association

Go To

The Witch Cooperation Association was originally formed to find the "Holy Mountain", a place where witches would never again suffer the Demonic Bite. After its near decimation, it was later reformed into the Witch Union, a group that would support the Kingdom of Graycastle, specifically Prince Roland.

Witch Union

    In General

    Anna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_41.jpg
Is your curiosity satisfied now, my prince?!
The first witch introduced to the audience. The protagonist met her as she was about to be executed. She and Roland eventually get into a relationship, with her to become the new queen of Graycastle.
  • Abusive Dad: Her father is a real piece of work, an entitled and ungrateful bastard who sold her to The Church for execution after she saved his life, and still continues to demand "living expenses" after Roland saved her.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Sweet, sensitive, and kind, but she's one of Graycastle's strongest witches, and her anger is a force of nature.
  • Childhood Friend: With Nana.
  • Clothing Damage: Roland provided her with a great many outfits that she literally burned through, as she practiced to master her powers.
  • Faking the Dead: Roland has a death row inmate take her place on the execution platform to fool The Church.
  • First Girl Wins: She is the first female character introduced and Roland's Love Interest.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has flaxen hair and is one of the nicest characters in the series.
  • Hold the Line: During Roland's first "Months of Demons," she, of her own volition, ran into a breach of Border Town's wall and held off Demon Beasts alone, until cover fire could be used to protect and repair the wall.
  • Informed Attractiveness: She's typically held to be extremely attractive, especially as the story continues as a kind of side effect of her overall ability growing. However, in the manhua she has the plainest adult witch design, which makes this hard to recognize.
  • Instant Expert: Anna is a natural at learning new things, quickly becoming the most knowledgeable of the witches in the Witch Union.
  • Mundane Utility: Downplayed, while her power of fire is very useful in a combat situation, Roland puts her powers in production, which is also incredibly useful in developing Border Town as well.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Her powers awakened when a mugger tried to kill her father and steal his purse as he was pinned beneath rubble in a mining accident. She fought off the mugger only to have her father sell her out to be executed by the local Church clergy.
  • Not Afraid to Die: She showed no fear as she was being dragged to the execution block because she was ready to accept her fate.
  • Official Couple: With "Roland".
  • Parental Abandonment: Her mother died in a fire, and her father sold her to The Church.
  • Playing with Fire: Anna's magic ability is control over fire. Her body is completely unharmed by any type of high temperature, and she can create and eventually control the exact temperature and shape of her flames as her abilities evolve.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Fire does not harm her in the slightest. Her clothes... are a different matter.
  • The Smart Girl: Theoretically one of the smartest characters in the series, being naturally curious in knowledge that Roland provides. Eventually, she becomes the Head of Industry due to her knowledge.
  • Sole Survivor: Aside from her father, she's the only one who survived when her home spontaneously caught fire.
  • Technicolor Fire: Upon reaching adulthood, she can produce green fire with freely controllable temperature. After understanding how heat interacts with molecules, Anna's newly evolved magic grants her black fire with tangible properties, which she can voluntarily manipulate the shape or temperature of selective parts of the flame.
  • You Are a Credit to Your Race: Her heroism at protecting Border Town's wall, and the citizens behind it, convinced the entire population of Border Town that The Church's propaganda about "witches being the spawn of demons" was a lie.

    Nana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nana_1.jpg
Teacher, will I be executed too?
The second witch introduced to the audience and friends since childhood with Anna.
  • Born Lucky: As a witch, she's introduced around the time where "Roland" is beginning to build his town with the help of witches, her father is supportive of her even when she turns out to be a witch and her ability to heal makes it easy of Roland for his populace to warm up to her and by extension the witches.
  • Cheerful Child: She is a very sweet and happy girl.
  • Combat Medic: Her primary role in Roland's witch association, to the point that Roland is understandably worried that due to her abilities makes the medical advancement of his kingdom in the lower priority.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Roland's "practice regimen" for her to understand her powers, not to mention being at the front line during the "Months of Demons" and witnessing all sorts of horrific injuries changed her from someone that got squeamish around the sight of suffering and bloodshed to someone who happily comments about severing and reattaching limbs and all sorts of horrific "experiments" involving small, helpless animals.
  • Good Parents: Unlike Anna, her father did his best to hide her magical nature, and upon finding out that she was brought to the castle of Border Town for Roland, went in person, ready to challenge royalty, to make sure nothing untoward happened.
  • Guardian Angel: She is often referred to as an angel by the soldiers.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Illustrated as golden-haired blonde in the manhua, sweet and sensitive little girl.
  • Healing Hands: Her powers involve accelerating natural healing by touch.
  • Healing Shiv: Upon reaching adulthood she can use her ability to grant healing properties to surgical tools.
  • Nice Girl: Even considering the entries above, she is still a sweet, sensitive girl and got the approval of the First Army due to her abilities.

    Nightingale
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nightingale_6.jpg
Don't run away now, young prince. I just want to have a little chat.
The first witch to defect from the Witch Association to Roland's Witch Union.
  • All for Nothing: She goes through a great deal of work to acquire blueprints to Roland's revolutionary steam engine design, something that would have greatly improved the lives of her sisters among the Witch Organization, only for the leader of said organization to burn them before her eyes as "a worthless fantasy designed by commoners."
  • Attack Hello: She greets Roland for the first time by throwing a dagger at his bedroom door when he somehow sensed her presence and tried to run away.
  • Berserk Button: "Don't. Touch. My. Dried Fish!"
  • The Big Guy: Despite her appearance, she tends to work as Roland's muscle, bodyguard and polygraph whenever necessary, often supplying brute force in lieu of brains.
  • Bodyguard Crush: On Roland. Both he and Anna are well aware of it. Even Nana noticed it before Anna.
  • Book Dumb: Many characters are puzzled by how terrible she is at academics despite her otherwise high intelligence and what should have been a better basic education than most.
  • Cleavage Window: Her main outfit exposes the top part of her chest, which she can use as a Victoria's Secret Compartment.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Nightingale's jealous of the fact that Anna won Roland heart, but she makes sure to keep it to herself as much as possible. She also doesn't like it when it looks like Roland is paying a little too much attention to another woman.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her loving parents died, and she and her brother were taken in by their uncle. When she became a witch, her uncle forced her to act as an assassin, under threat of harming her brother. When she underwent the Day of Adulthood and gained her Intangibility power, she went to see her brother, only to find out that he hates her for being a witch. After killing her uncle, she had nowhere to go until meeting Wendy.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Her parents were very loving until they were presumably killed in a riot after a mine collapse. Then her powers awakened...
  • Does Not Like Men: She, like Wendy, used to dislike men until her encounter with Roland, whom she ended up developing feelings towards.
  • Dumb Blonde: Despite always attending supplementary classes implemented by Roland to the witches and also having a noble background, she's one of the lowest scorers during exams, frustrating her to no end. However, her instinctual grasp of concepts such as a round world are rather good.
  • Enemy Eats Your Lunch: She is not an "enemy" but she does have a habit of taking others' food and drink.
  • Extradimensional Shortcut: Her "teleportation" actually has her pass through some kind of alternate dimension where she can observe the world but not be affected by it, though there are powers and abilities that can still affect her even in "the mist".
  • Guns Akimbo: Roland provides her with his first fully functional revolvers, which she dual wields.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: According to the trailer, her hair is every bit as flaxen blonde as Anna, and she's just as good and kind of a woman.
  • Hitman with a Heart: Before joining the Witch Association, her uncle forced her into the assassination business and treated her like dirt.
  • Human Shield: She tried this against Zero. Zero's ability simply went right through her.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She regularly steals other people's food, but gets mad when someone tries to steal her food.
  • If You Ever Do Anything To Hurt Him: Nightingale did not care for Ashes’ rudeness to Roland and her self-righteous insults at him, saying he’s a poor leader who doesn’t have what it takes to rule his land, and she declares she’s going to take all the Border Town witches back with her “for their own protection”. Naturally, said witches act coldly toward Ashes for this, much to her confusion. Then Nightingale launches an attack on her when she was alone as a warning not to badmouth Roland, especially when she doesn’t even know him well enough.
  • Intangibility: Nightingale's Awakening gave her the ability to go through solid objects.
  • Invisibility: Her basic power is this.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Is aware that Anna and Roland love each other and supports their relationship. She does try angling for the position of mistress, however, and quite openly at that.
  • The Lancer: To Roland, as her lie detection abilities is useful for them to learn about the truth of the world.
  • Leg Focus: Her outfit emphasizes her long, beautiful legs.
  • Living Lie Detector: She can always tell when someone is lying in her presence. This doesn't extend to people who either use Exact Words or genuinely believe their own lies or misconceptions. It also doesn't necessarily help figure out what the truth is: When she asks Roland if he's really Prince Roland Wimbledon, he basically says "Yes and no. Can't make much of that answer, can you?" which she recognizes as the truth but cannot understand.
  • Love Hurts: Nightingale loves Roland, but knows that his heart belongs to Anna. She stays by his side regardless of how much it hurts her feelings to see them together.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: She was entirely loyal to her Witch Organization until the leader of said organization attacked her with a poisoned snake and offered her the "mercy" of recanting her experiences in Border Town to then launch a suicidal venture into Demon controlled territory.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Illustrations of her in the manhwa get quite risqué, and she's got the body to match.
  • My Greatest Failure: Failing to prevent Roland from getting attacked by a magic attack from a Pure Witch.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: According to the official animated trailer, her eyes are a very pale blue. They only look purplish in the manhwa due to the lighting conditions. Fully illuminated, they are indeed quite blue.
  • Professional Killer: Used by her Jerkass uncle, Nightingale was once called Shadow Killer and was feared by the nobles in the Central Region of Graycastle before she joined the Witch Union.
  • Superpower Lottery: Her powers are Invisibility, Silent Movement, Intangibility and Lie Detection. All of these powers combined are perfect for a Spy/Assassin.
  • The Tease: When she was with the Witch's Cooperation Association, she loved to tease Roland. After joining Roland she seems to developed a case of Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest. She still acts as this to him at times when she works up the nerve.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Salted fish.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: She will sometimes keep letters in-between her breasts.

    Wendy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wendy_manhua.jpg
Formerly of the Witch Association, she becomes one of the founding members of Roland's Witch Union in Graycastle.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Nightingale cuts off her arm to slow down the spread of poison from a snake bite. Nana is later able to reattach the arm.
  • Blow You Away: Her power is mastery over wind.
  • The Chains of Commanding: She feels that being the leader of Roland's Witch Association is a burden she'd rather not have, but she does it anyway because the junior witches need her.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: When the leader of the Witch Cooperation Association turned on Nightingale and attacked her, Wendy was torn between the two. She ultimately chose to save Nightingale's life.
  • D-Cup Distress: Literally. Her ample bosom gave her severe neck and back pain until Roland introduced her to modern bras and she's secretly very grateful about it.
  • Does Not Like Men: She used to fear men due to her experiences with them until meeting Roland.
  • Eyes Always Shut: A trait given to her in the manhua adaptation. She seems to open her eyes when talking about a serious subject or using her powers.
  • The Leader: Roland makes her the leader of the Witch Union under himself. She is noted as being the best person for the job because of how much she cares for the witches as sisters.
  • Mundane Utility: Before joining Roland's side, she mainly used her magic to dry clothes and meat.
  • Punny Name: Her name is Wendy, and she controls the wind.
  • Team Mom: Wendy always looks out for what's best for her sisters. This is what makes Roland decide to make her the leader of the Witch Union.

    Lightning
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lightning_5.jpg
The daughter of an explorer from the Fjords and a relatively new member of the Witch Cooperation Association.
  • Bold Explorer: She seeks new horizons to discover.
  • Break the Cutie: She has episodes where she encountered situations that would have killed her if she didn't follow Roland's instructions on keeping her safe first, after which she would develop some self doubt on whether she could be as brave as her father. It is her friends' support that enables her to keep flying again.
  • Character Development: She learns that it is fine to be scared and becomes a more mature person and explorer.
  • Constantly Curious: After seeing Roland's blueprints in the camp, she joins Nightingale and Wendy to Border Town out of curiosity. Also helps that she's relatively new in the Association at that time. It's because of this that she is willing to work for Roland for free (not counting the food and shelter he provides); as long as he allows her to play with the new devices he comes up with, she's ready to give a helping hand.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her missing father, Thunder ends up stationing at Tilly's island and it took a long time (which includes Roland finding out, but prevented by Thunder himself) for them to be reunited.
  • Genki Girl: She seems to be filled with boundless energy.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: The manhua illustrates her as a blonde, and a good, upright woman, if a bit mischievous.
  • Idiot Hair: The manhua adaptation gives her one.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She doesn't have much of a filter when speaking, causing what she might think as compliments to come off more like insults.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • She aspires to discover new things, just like her father, whom she deeply admires.
    • She also seems to take after her caretaker's personality of being excited at new things. Roland even thought she reminds her of Lightning before he even knew there was a connection between the two.
  • Power Floats: She is rarely ever seen on the ground, preferring to float at every opportunity.
  • Super-Speed: After awakening her magic, Lightning can accelerate to the point of breaking the sound barrier during flight. Her branch ability creates a magic cocoon around her to provide a safe surrounding at supersonic speeds, but her magic consumption increases in proportion to the speed difference between the internal and external environments.
  • Tomboy: Her manhua look is rather boyish, and it fits her adventurous personality.
  • Too Dumb to Live: She frequently puts herself in mortal danger for the same reasons and in the same ways. Roland never criticizes her for it because she always feels (briefly) guilty.

    Leaf
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leaf_manhua.jpg
One of the senior members of the Association. She became leader after their disastrous encounter with the demons and led the survivors to Border Town, where they would come under the protection of Roland and become the Witch Union.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Downplayed. She loses several toes due to frostbite. Nana later helps regenerate them.
  • Curtains Match the Window: In the manhua, her eyes are green along with her hair.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Green hair and plant powers.
  • Green Thumb: She can accelerate the growth of plants and control them, improve the plants' characteristics, and eventually, even merge with them.
  • Hidden Badass: She is actually one of the witches Ashes herself actually fears, alongside Anna and Nightingale.
  • Loss of Identity: Leaf risks this if she merges too much in a short amount of time, as her thought process gets slowed drastically. She is also in danger of this if she stays merged for too long at any one time.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is Leaf and she has plant powers.
  • Transflormation: Leaf's Awakening gives her the ability to take full control over an area of plants by slowly merging into them.

    Scroll
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scroll_5.png
One of the founders and survivors of the Witch Association.
  • Achievement In Ignorance: She becomes the first non-combatant witch to become an Transcendent...despite her not knowing how she achieved it herself.
  • Blessed with Suck: Scroll and Roland note that having a Photographic Memory comes with the downside of always remembering bad experiences as if they just happened.
  • Dream Walker: Her power as an Transcendent enables her to enter Roland's Dream World.
  • Hot Teacher: Roland hired her to become the Head of Education due to her abilities.
  • Older Than They Look: She is over 40 years old, but looks in her 20's.
  • Photographic Memory: Her power allows her to remember everything that she has ever experienced and it until her branch magic of a memory book that she can search for the details does she realize that she is a witch.

    Soroya
One of the survivors of the Witch Association.
  • Achievement In Ignorance: She's the 2nd witch to have her powers evolve in the story after Anna, but she only found out after Roland tries to retrieve the hot air balloon himself he realizes there's Border Town painted to the basket, and that there's a certain thickness to it. A chapter later, it is revealed that she applies her knowledge she learns from Roland (of atomic balls) to make her pictures more vivid.
  • Gamer Girl: She really gets into the card game Roland had her design for him.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: She thinks her evolved power is only good for creating more vivid pictures. Roland disagrees, because he guides the use of her powers to replace the entire plastics and rubber industry, leading to the creation of bike tires, body armor, hydrogen balloons, and an entire heating and plumbing system, among other things.
  • Painting the Medium: Her power is to paint perfect pictures like a camera.

    Lily
A survivor from the Witch Association who has a strong initial distrust of Roland.
  • A-Cup Angst: Lily gets a bit jealous when looking at Wendy’s rack.
  • Character Development: She started out rather hostile towards Roland. After seeing how he genuinely cares about them and all he's done for both witches and commoners, she (mostly) drops this attitude.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was from an orphanage that promised the young girls that they could live with nobles and be happy. The owner was really just finding witches to sell and killed off any that reached adulthood and didn't exhibit magic powers. She found this out when the Association showed her the grave of corpses, one of whom was a dear friend of hers.
  • Freudian Excuse: Considering her Dark and Troubled Past, it is reasonable that she was skeptical of Roland at first.
  • Healing Hands: Once her ability on controlling micro-organisms is revealed, Roland guides her to partner with Nana to specialize in internal medicine.
  • Lethal Harmless Powers: One wouldn't think the ability to "keep food fresh" would be of much use on the battlefield, although it's excellent in camp. However, once she understood that her ability focuses on controlling micro-organisms, she near-single handed stopped a plague unleashed by The Church. After her magic undergoes a second transformation and develops a derivative skill that allows her body to store microbes, Roland realizes her potential as a "walking bio-weapon".
  • Tsundere: She likes to act mean, especially with Roland and Mystery Moon, but she really cares about others.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Mystery Moon.

    Echo
A survivor from the Witch Association. She originally from the Sand Nation.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Echo is tan-skinned. It's later revealed she originally came from the desert lands of Iron Sand City.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her clan was massacred by an enemy clan, who used trickery to do it. She was subsequently sold into slavery.
  • The Empath: After evolving, Echo can use songs to make all who hear it serene. It also has an added effect of having listeners experience something the song reminds them of.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: In a sense. Iron Axe reveals Echo is actually supposed to be the next chieftain of a clan in the Sand Nation where they both originally came from, but things happened that prevented that...
  • Voice Changeling: Echo can imitate sounds as well as voices. She once used this ability to trick an invading army to take their enhancement pills too early to cause confusion in the ranks, thus making them easy pickings for Roland’s army.

    Hummingbird
A survivor from the Witch Association.
  • Blush Sticker: She has this look in the manhua.
  • Gravity Master: Hummingbird can alter the weight of any object she touches to be as light as a feather. This made her ideal as a bomb dropper as she helped carry heavy fighter plane bombs while riding on Maggie's demon bird form.

    Mystery Moon
A survivor of the Witch Association. She has low self-esteem and is good friends with Lily.
  • Character Development: She started out with absolutely no self-confidence whatsoever. Thanks to Roland and the other witches believing in her, she becomes much happier and more confident.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Mystery Moon has this look in the manhua, her eyes shaded over by her hair serving as a symbolism of her low self-esteem. Once she starts getting more confidence in herself, Mystery Moon's eyes progressively start becoming more visible.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Mystery Moon's power is on magnetizing things, which Roland sees great potential in, unlike Cara.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: She can magnetize metallic objects, usually causing them to stick to other metallic objects or the herself.
  • Nervous Wreck: As a result of being constantly berated by Cara and her power being regarded as useless, Mystery Moon has absolutely no self-esteem when she first joins the Witch Union.

    Maggie
The ambassador of the Sleeping Island Witches to the Witch Union.
  • Animorphism: She can take on the form of any bird or flying creature, including Demon Mounts. However, she cannot transform into mythological creatures.
  • Born Lucky: She's the luckiest member of the cast, with even Ashes herself warns Lorgar not to confront her as her opponents couldn't get rid of their bad luck.
    • To give context on how lucky she is, she manages to get high scores in Roland's exam due to her absurd luck.
    • She also manages to acquire the tastiest Chaos Drinks Evelyn made that even witches once suspected Evelyn telling Maggie beforehand.
  • Idiot Hair: Has a strand of hair shaped like a feather standing up from her head, which moves in response to her mood.
  • Irony: She can use her magic to become birds, and yet her favorite food is roasted bird.
  • Manchild: She's an adult, but hangs out with the 12-13 year old Lightning and acts no more maturely or responsibly.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: When she's in her bird form, usually as a plump fluffy white bird.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She initially had no way to use her powers offensively. After evolving, she gained the ability to contribute in battles by transforming into a flying demonic beast.
  • Turncoat: Starting out as a witch on the Sleeping Island, she later stayed as their "diplomat" in Roland's kingdom, where she happily indulges as the standard of living is higher.
  • Verbal Tic: "Coo!"

    Spear Passi
The ex-lord of Fallen Dragon Ridge who gets exposed as a witch by her jealous brother so that he could take over her position. Spear gets rescued and taken back to Border Town.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Redwyne's Cain.
  • I Owe You My Life: After being rescued by Nightingale, Lightning, and Maggie from her brother's treachery, Spear dedicates herself to Roland.
  • Magic Enhancement: Possesses the ability to take power from one witch to amplify another witch's power.
  • Mystical White Hair: Has white hair and a witch.
  • Refusal of the Call: Spear initially declined an invitation to Bordertown by Nightingale, Lightning, and Maggie. That all changed when Redwyne gets her imprisoned as a witch moments later.
  • Stronger Sibling: Spear is far more competent in running government affairs than her useless younger brother Redwyne.

    Summer
A newly awakened witch in Bordertown sent off to the Witch Union by her mother for financial gain.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Summer is tan-skinned, and the only one in her family.
  • Mystical White Hair: She's a witch with white hair.
  • Nervous Wreck: Started out this way as she had no idea what to expect from Roland, only going by rumors of him perving on women and fearing she may be ravished. This assumption just gets a laugh out of the Witch Union members as the descriptions of Roland are way off.
  • Rewind, Replay, Repeat: Summer's power is to replay events of the past that have taken place in a location she's currently at via a magical hologram.

    Lorgar Burnflame
Princess of the Wildflame Clan and witch in the Ironsand City regions.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Coming from a desert region, Lorgar is tan-skinned.
  • Battle Strip: Whenever Lorgar transforms into her full wolf form, she bursts out of her clothes, then winds up naked after reverting. Later, whenever Lorgar needs to go full wolf, she would strip naked and pack away her clothes to prevent destroying them so she can redress herself after reverting.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has long red hair and a great fighter.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Lorgar has wolf ears and tail, something she's ashamed of as it makes her stand out in crowds.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Lorgar can transform into a huge wolf. She can also transform her limbs to wolf claws for more compact fighting.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: She doesn't bother to wear shoes since she bursts out of her clothes anyway when she transforms into a wolf or when she transforms her limbs.

Witch Cooperation Association

    Cara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cara_manhua_8.jpg
The original leader of the Witch Cooperation Association.
  • Animal Assassin: Her witch powers involve summoning snakes, venomous and otherwise.
  • Asshole Victim: Was killed by demons after leading a near suicidal trek through the snow capped mountain. Cara’s death was for the best as she can no longer drag anyone else down with her because of her arrogance and incompetency as a leader.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: To Lightning, though Cara never said it aloud. Cara's internal monologue frequently mentions wanting to slowly and painfully kill Lightning for being "a nuisance", but she gulps down her rage because Lightning's scouting talent is keeping her and her group alive...
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Combined with Redemption Equals Death. Although she dies in battle with the demon soldier "Iron Hand," she managed to use her snakes to rip its outfit apart, bleeding it of its "Red Mist". This allows Leaf and five others to survive the encounter, barely.
  • Evil Cripple: She's carried everywhere due to an injury against Nightingale that cost her the use of her legs and she's vicious beyond words.
  • Fantastic Racism: She believes witches are not only superior to "common people" on all points without exception, but once her association reaches "Holy Mountain" planned to return and enslave them all.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Mother: When Nightingale returned from Border Town, as a scout, a role Cara herself assigned, Cara outright refused to heed Nightingale's testimony and physically destroyed the Steam Engine blueprints Nightingale acquired at terrible personal cost "because commoners can't be trusted, and the machine is just a fantasy."
  • General Failure: She is so fixated on finding "The Holy Mountain" that she ignored her compatriot's fatigue, lack of supplies, or the terrain, leading her association to almost total annihilation in Demon controlled territory. Of the 40 odd members that remained after the defection triggered by her own attack on Nightingale, only six escaped the bloodbath, and that was sheer luck. She was not among the survivors.
  • Green and Mean: Has green hair and is a total bitch to her followers.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Nightingale has the right to be angry for Cara not believing her, but Cara can be slightly justified for not believing Border Town's gift of the steam enginge blueprint can be useful to her, since not only it doesn't bring a short term benefit to her union, but also haven't seen it in person herself.
  • Knight Templar: She believes herself the incarnation of righteousness, and disagreeing with her can get you killed.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Her self-righteousness makes her act like she knows what’s best for her group and that what she says is right, completely ignoring Nightingale’s personal witness accounts of her time in Border Town. Cara writes off Nightingale as "being fooled by Roland in order to trap their group" despite knowing Nightingale is basically a Living Lie Detector. She also writes off the idea of the steam engine as a load of poppycock as “a hunk of metal moving on its own is ridiculous”, despite herself being a witch. To top it off, Cara immediately brands Nightingale a traitor who "planned to sell them out to the Church" without any proof supporting her claim and therefore must be killed. Cara also refused to believe there's a better way to deal with the Demon's Bite, proclaiming it as "a test to determine a witch's will" and those who don't survive it are simply "not good enough".
  • A Mother to Her Men: And a particularly abusive one.
  • Obliviously Evil: After she outright attacks Nightingale with a poisoned snake, she's honestly shocked that Nightingale would retaliate with the battle causing a schism and defection of several key members.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: She believed that if she attacked Nightingale with a poisoned snake, this would force Nightingale to submit, recant her testimony regarding Border Town, and then return to the fold with Blind Obedience. Had she bothered to listen to Nightingale's testimony, she would have known how stupidly suicidal such an action was.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: She kills the orphanage director who had custody over Lilly in a rage, after learning the guy made himself feel like a king by deciding which of the young girls in his charge get to live or die, selling witches to The Church for money and the most attractive to nobles, killing those left behind. The orphans who were rescued from him, especially Lily, did not take to the Awful Truth well.
  • She Who Fights Monsters: Her self-righteous delusions make her just as bad as The Church that she's both fleeing from and wants revenge against. Nightingale calls her out on it.
  • Tautological Templar: Since her goal of finding "Holy Mountain," a place that supposedly allows witches to Awaken without suffering "the demon's bite" is a noble goal, she believes all her actions in pursuit of that goal are above reproach, ignoring all evidence to the contrary.
  • Total Party Kill: Only a few witches that went to find the Holy Mountain survive a Demon Attack, herself not included.
