Team Buddy

    Team Buddy in general

Appearances: What If I Had An Evil Team?

  • Big Bad: Of the What If I Had An Evil Team?.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Their modus operandi, making everyone friends via brainwashing.
  • Breakout Character: Their debut video is easily the most popular of Mr.Buddy's content. So much so that their story continues beyond the Evil Team video.
  • Face–Monster Turn: The fate of any character or Pokémon they capture is to "Buddyize" them, i.e. brainwash them into creepily cheerful 50's versions of themselves. In the first Team Buddy, the only known characters to have been buddyized are the grunts and Professor Fennel.
  • Foil: To Team Plasma. Team Plasma wishes to separate the people and Pokémon of Unova but has ill intent underneath, whereas Team Buddy wishes to strengthen the bonds between the people and Pokémon of Unova but has a hidden agenda.
  • Not Me This Time: The Team Buddy that tried to force all of Unova into lucid bliss isn't the Team Buddy behind the brainwashing spas of Alola.
  • True Companions: The friendship between Buddy, Rosie, Danny and Cherry is genuine.
  • Villain Song: "Nicest Team in Town".
    Greaser Buddy

  • Dark and Troubled Past
  • The Fair Folk: He has a Wigglytuff in his team.
  • Greaser Delinquents: His true nature.
  • Poisonous Person: He has an Alolan Muk in team.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At the end of the 1st Team Buddy video.
  • Signature Mon: His Alolan Muk, his most trusted and loyal Pokemon, as well as the first one he caught at a young age.

Neo Team Buddy

     Neo Team Buddy in General

Appearances: Alola Vacation | What If I Made A Pokemon Game | Aether Audio Logs | Team Buddy Returns (Part 1 and 2)

Members: The Boss | Professor Fennel | Scientist B-A5 | Jenny | Jason | Cynthia | Zossie | Professor Kukui | Olivia | Lusamine | Mallow | Kiawe | Gladion | Guzma | Plumeria | Nanu] | Acerola | Wicke | Kris | Chili, Cilan, and Cress | Cherry

  • Big Bad Duumvirate: They've teamed up with the Aether Foundation as the villains of Team Buddy Returns. This is Subverted when it's revealed that Team Buddy's only using the Foundation to further their own goals.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Much like their Unovan counterparts, this is their main tool of befriending people, but this time, they're experimenting with Nihilego venom to make the effects stick longer.
  • Elite Four: Team Buddy has one, consisting of Kukui, Lusamine, Cynthia, and the evil Mr. Buddy.
  • Eviler than Thou: Are more sinister than the original Team Buddy, not just in their methods in trying to make Buddyization permanent, but also in the fact that they are a lot more brutal. This can be shown as they are more willing to physically attack trainers in and out of Pokemon battles.
  • Face–Monster Turn: They've got plenty of canon characters on their side, sporting 50s-style makeovers, and considering what happened to Cynthia and the Ultra Recon Squad, it's unlikely the others are willingly on their side.
    • In the Alola Vacation animatic, Professor Fennel is shown to be running the Buddy Salon that Buddyizes Cynthia and her Garchomp. A Buddyized version of Roxie from the Black 2 and White 2 games makes a brief appearance among the crowd of Buddyized patrons.
    • In The Stinger of the Dream Game Video, a solo-mission gone wrong leads to Zossie returning to Ultra Megalopolis with a swell new look and personality, as well as loads of new friends that invade and presumably Buddyize the rest of the Ultra Recon Squad.
    • In Part 1, in addition to Professor Fennel, Zossie, and Cynthia, Professor Kukui has been shown to had been Buddyized during his trip to the new Buddy Salon that opened up prior to the events of "Team Buddy Returns". Also, Kris and the trainers who had taken the Care Package have unknowingly signed up to be Buddyized later on.
    • In Part 2, Olivia has been shown to have been Buddyized in the beginning and its implied that she was demoted to a Trial Captain because of it. She now runs a 50's vintage-styled version of her jewelry store. Kiawe and Mallow have also been Buddyized as well and are seen manning a Musharna Farm to produce more Lucid Mist, but are brought back to normal when the Player, Greaser Buddy, and Lillie managed to create the cure for Buddyization. Lusamine is revealed to have been Buddyized after speaking to Team Buddy's leader. Gladion ends up Buddyized after buying Lillie and the Player enough time to escape from Cynthia and the Grunts.
    • In Part 3, Guzma and the rest of Team Re Skull have been Buddyized. Plumeria and Nanu get Buddyized trying to hold Cynthia and an army of Team Buddy Grunts off to let the Player and Acerola escape. Plumeria and Guzma were later turned back to normal, along with the rest of Team Re Skull. Nanu is later unbuddyized, but Acerola is abducted to be Buddyized. Wicke is later shown Buddyized in a message made by her, Lusamine, and Gladion. Wicke's Buddyization also subtly confirms that all of the trainers in the Care Path have indeed been Buddyized.
    • In Part 4, Kris and the rest of the Care Path Trainers are revealed to have been Buddyized, as well as Chili, Cilan, and Cress. Luckily, they along with Zossie and Acerola are turned back to normal. Cherry is later revealed to be Buddyized into loving the Evil Mr. Buddy.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The videos they star in usually take a darker turn whenever they are around.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: They are a lot darker than the original Team Buddy. While they look friendly and pleasant with their 50's aesthetic, they may be one of the darkest Evil Teams in Pokémon, both in canon and the Buddyverse. They're goal is to make everyone friends, but they do it by brainwashing people with Lucid Mist and the aftermath of the Buddyizing Process can be quite unnerving, as shown with Fennel, Zossie, Gladion, and ESPECIALLY Cynthia.
    The Boss

Evil Mr. Buddy

Appearances: Alola Vacation | Aether Audio Log | Team Buddy Returns (Part 4)

  • Big Bad: The leader of the newly resurrected and more dangerous Team Buddy.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: His voice is heard making an announcement in the Alola Vacation animatic.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He's devastated by the loss of his Cherry, and if mucking about with alternate universes and completely overwriting one will bring her back, so be it.
  • The Fair Folk: He's got plenty of Fairy-types on his team, and as the Fatherbeast, he is part Fairy-type, but he's by no means a good person.
  • One-Winged Angel: After his defeat, he douses himself with Nihilucid Mist, and uses the Nihilego he's summoned to become the Fatherbeast.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: He's got little patience for his greaser self and how he's never experienced loss.
  • Poisonous Person: He has a Salazzle on his team, and as the Fatherbeast, he is part Poison-type.
  • Thinking Up Portals: One of the things he can do as the Fatherbeast.
    Buddyized Pokemon

Appearances: Aether Audio Log | Team Buddy Returns (Part 1 and 2)

  • Beehive Hairdo: Buddyized Vespiquen, Gothitelle and Furfrou all boast this style.
  • The Fair Folk: They might be friendly, they might all be Fairy-type, but they were made in a collaboration between the Aether Foundation and the new Team Buddy.
  • Foil: They were inspired by the dangerous nature of the wild Pokemon of the Australia region, and were made to be their opposite. Safe and friendly.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: They're happy, friendly, and smiling all the time, but the process that made them that way is quite sinister, involving lucid mist, Nihilego venom, surgery, "cupcake infusion", and "everything else nice".
  • An Ice Person: The Ralts line (minus Gallade) are Fairy/Ice instead of Psychic/Fairy.
  • Infinity -1 Sword: Garchomp is one of the known Buddyized species. Specifically, Cynthia's Garchomp.
  • Super Mode: Absol, Gardevoir and Gallade are the only known Buddyized species who have a Mega Evolution.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter what is done to Garchomp, Buddyized or not, it's first and only loyalty is to Cynthia.
  • The Unsmile: Galvantula's smile is quite unnerving.
  • Wicked Heart Symbol: Buddyized Galvantula makes heart-shaped spiderwebs. Buddyized Garchomp has heart-shaped scales.

  • Alternate Self: An alternate version of Team Berserk appears in the Kalos dimension of the Dream Game.

  • Heel–Face Turn: They seem to follow Sigurd's new viewpoint on dragons after his final defeat.

  • Because Destiny Says So: His motivation for wiping out the dragons, including his own.
  • Big Bad: The Leader of Team Berserk.
  • Facial Horror: A dragon destroyed part of his face.
  • Fur and Loathing: Aside from his fur cape, he also provides a reptilian take on this trope. His armor is made from Kommo-o scales, his axe is made from Haxorus tusks, and he wears the jaw of another dragon.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After his final defeat, he realizes that the bond he's made with his dragon and the bond the player character has with their dragon has given him the realization that everything he thought about dragons was wrong, and he's going to return to his homeland to teach his people what he has learned, even if they're unlikely to follow his words. And should Team Berserk invade the Scandinavia region again, he will try to stop them.
  • What Could Have Been: After defeating his Alternate Self in the Dream Game, he respects the Player and states that his life might have went differently if he met him in an earlier time.
  • You Will Be Spared: Averted, even though he befriended his stolen starter, he still wants to wipe out every single dragon, it included. After finally being defeated, he pulls a Heel–Face Turn and changes his mind.

  • Jerkass: Puts Blue/Gary Oak to shame in terms of this trope.
  • The Rival: Of the Italy player character.

  • Hero Killer: Successfully Buddyizes Gladion.
  • Ladyof War: While not as composed and elegant as her canon counterpart, she's still this trope by virtue of being the Champion, Her Buddyized self takes this to a villainous decree though.
  • Limited Wardrobe: That fancy coat she wears? She's got plenty of spares in case it gets smeared by the snot of a kid she beats in battle. Good thing Team Buddy provides her with a new dress after her last one gets snotty.
  • Outside-Context Problem: After being Buddyized, she becomes this for the first of the spoiler characters at the bottom of this page.
  • Naïve Newcomer: In the Buddyverse, she only recently became Sinnoh Champion and is somewhat having trouble handling the responsibilities of her role.

  • Poisonous Person: Has a Poipole in her team.
  • Making a Splash: Has a Seadra in her team.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sun_moon_lusamine.png

Appearances: Aether Audio Log | Team Buddy Returns

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Subverted. She appears to be pretty young but is actually over 40.
  • Abusive Parents: Was this to Lillie and Gladion in thr original Sun and Moon games, as well as Ultra Sun and Moon. By the time of Team Buddy Returns, she's trying to make it up to her kids and be a better mother, starting with the Alola Adventure Program.
  • Adaptational Heroism: The Buddyverse Lusamine is the same as her counterpart from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. In Team Buddy Returns, she's genuinely tryin to make up for her past mistakes by inviting trainers to her Alolan Adventure Program, as well as partnering with Team Buddy, to help said trainers reach their potential and to help fix the damages she brought on Alola. Sadly, she should've looked into her partnership with Team Buddy more carefully...
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: She ends up Buddyized in Part 2 of Team Buddy Returns.
  • The Atoner: See Adaptational Heroism above.
  • Bad Boss: Despite her efforts to fix her mistakes and become a better person, she's still shown to have her obsession with Nihilego (most likely due to its venom still inside her) and nearly has it kill Scientist B-A5 in the Aether Audio Log.
  • The Cameo: It's very blink-and-miss, but she briefly appears in the background of the Dystopian Kanto dimension as a stripper.
    • While she doesn't physically show up in Team Buddy Returns Part 2, an image of her Buddyized self was shown having breakfast with Lillie and Gladion, who were weirded out by her sudden change in personality.
  • Cassandra Truth: She doesn't believe Gladion when he tries to warn her about Team Buddy's suspicious behavior.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: What she used to be.
  • Elite Four: Is the second member of Team Buddy's Elite Four.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Gets Buddyized after going to talk with Neo Team Buddy's leader in Team Buddy Returns Part 2.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Had this in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and her actions since then revolve trying make up for her mistakes.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: What she is currently striving to be, via the Alolan Adventure Program and her partnership with Team Buddy.

  • Light Is Good: Or formerly evil in this case. See Adaptational Heroism above.
  • My Beloved Smother: Tried to feed her kids and the 500 employees in the Aether Foundation pancakes. She wants Lillie and Gladion to be buddyized as well so they can be a happy family together.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Her partnership with Team Buddy and her leniency towards their actions is practically her giving them the resources they need to Buddyize Alola.
  • Parents as People: Was horribly abusive towards Lillie and Gladion prior to the events of Team Buddy Returns, and is now trying her best to make up for it.

  • Cassandra Truth: He tries to warn Lusamine about Team Buddy's disturbing behavior, but she brushes him off.

  • Death Glare: His eyes narrow when he's particularly angry.
  • Emo Teen: Design-wise, he wears red and black punk clothes and has Peek-a-Bangs. Personality-wise he's aloof, cynical, and abrasive. Of course, he has he has his reasons to be that way.

She wears white with light blue, is not fond of making Pokémon fight in battles at all. In regards to their reactions to their mother's partnership with Team Buddy, Gladion doesn't trust them and his worries are dismissed until he's ultimately proven right. Lillie buys into Team Buddy's seemingly kind and helpful nature, only to realize just how evil they truly are.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Gladion is on the side of good, but he's still a pretty grumpy person.
  • Leanand Mean: He's quite skinny for someone his age, and his personality is initially far from friendly.

  • Chrome Champion: Has a Steelix in her team.
  • Curiosity Killed the Cast: While initially planning to take the Island Trial Path, Kris changed her mind and decided to take the Care Path to get a chance to see an Ultra Beast. Given Team Buddy is working alongside the Aether Foundation, it will most likely not end well for her.
