New Generation GGG: Gutsy Global Guard (GGG Blue)

     Mamoru Amami & Ikumi Kaidou

In General

  • Bash Brothers: As copilots together for GaoGaiGo, both Mamoru and Ikumi need to be the closest friends they can be with each other to the point of having the tacit chemistry to bring up each other’s strengths, and cover each other’s weaknesses.
  • Child Soldier: Though they played key roles during their years under Gutsy Galaxy Guard, the events resulting in them being sent back to Earth post FINAL was what really grounds them both to willingly undergo Training from Hell and enlist themselves as test pilots of Gusty Global Guards’s then in-development GaoGaiGo for real; and their flashbacks showed us just how dangerous it is to have kids as test pilots.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Mamoru and Ikumi have been part of the GGG project for 10 years. During the 8-year gap between FINAL and this story, the two of them continued their GGG service by partaking in the development of GaoGaiGo outside of school. Guy even points out that technically, Mamoru and Ikumi are now more experienced than he is.
  • Happily Adopted: While Mamoru solved his case long since the first series, Ikumi came to terms with his adoptive mother and has learned to open up to his Earthling friends by the end of FINAL.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Mamoru is the red to Ikumi’s blue.

Voiced by: Maiko Itou (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

An experienced GGG member who is now a co-pilot of GaoGaiGo with Ikumi Kaidou.

  • Babies Ever After: With Hana in the epilogue. They called the baby Tsubasa.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: He's aware of his limits, but he tends to be influenced easily by his peers in drinking more than he should.
  • Hairstyle Inertia: His hair is still the same as when he was 9 years old.
  • Hot-Blooded: Just like his big bro.
  • Older Than They Look: As Mamoru enters his twenties, he noticed his Ma'am Shock greeting towards Guy back when he was a kid is coming back to haunt him in an ironic manner—people kept mistaking him as a kid (or at most, a teenager); and Mamoru's voice not changing only makes it worse. Not to mention this was also Alouette’s first impression of him.
    Mamoru (in tears): “I’m not a kid…I’m already 20, you know…”
  • Nice Guy: He is as sweet as he was back when we first met him 10 years ago.

Ikumi Kaidou (Arma)

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga (JP, SRW-30)

An experienced GGG member who is now a co-pilot of GaoGaiGo with Mamoru Amami.

  • Badass Longcoat: His GGG uniform is the only one that has this.
  • Chaste Hero: In normal social activity, underneath his mature Long-Haired Pretty Boy exterior is a boy with a rather innocent mindset, especially noticeable whenever he’s hanging around his childhood friends. It’s not until Alouette bluntly squeeing over one of his gratitude gestures that he realizes his looks is starting to attract the opposite sex; and is noticeably uncomfortable.
  • Character Development: Compared to the original series, he has accepted his life on Earth and opened up a lot, like being in First-Name Basis with Mamoru when he used to call him Amami, and being much more expressive overall.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Yuka likes to call him "Angel", much to Ikumi's chagrin.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He harbored feelings for Yuka, but Ikumi had no problem for her to marry someone else as long as she’s happy about it.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Based on manga flashbacks, Ikumi sported a shoulder-length ponytail by the beginning of middle school, which meant he probably started saving his full head of hair since late 6th grade. Ikumi’s looks and voice change is more on par with his age, which makes Mamoru look way younger in comparison.
  • Momma's Boy: He cares greatly for his elderly adoptive mother.
  • Razor-Sharp Hand: When fighting he uses his hands to launch slashes that can cut through weapons and armor.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: His armor has a red one, probably inspired by J's.
  • Ship Tease: With Alouette. But he’s more of a Clueless Chick-Magnet with a simple mind.
    • Not as clueless as he seems. He's somewhat aware of her feelings for him, but doesn't know how to handle it. Later in the book he admits that he's come to enjoy the time they spend together a lot.

     Hana Hatsuno
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_01_0.png
Voiced by: Konami Yoshida (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

A Childhood Friend of Mamoru, Ikumi, and Sueo since elementary school who now is a newly joined-in Mobile Unit Lead Operator of Gutsy Global Guard.

  • Bridge Bunnies: Like Mikoto before her, Hana is the one assigned to oversee, and activate the Final Fusion Program Drive for GaoGaoGo.
  • Happily Married: She and Mamoru make it official at the end of the series.
  • New Meat: Amongst her childhood friends who joins the GGG program, Hana is the last one to finish her training and just joined the band at the beginning of this story. Obviously nervous and panicky as any poor little ball of fluff.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Just like in the show.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: During the latter parts of the story she starts to feel ill and believes she got infected with a New-Machine Species like Mikoto, Hinoki tells her it's actually this trope.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She went from the panicky Damsel in Distress and constant victim of Zonder collateral damage from the original series into GaoGaiGo's operator albeit still struggling with that. She takes another level when she ends up working in the Goldion Armor's launch in perfect synchrony with Alouette.

     Alouette Pommier
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a04_01.png
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

A Teen Genius who was once kidnapped by Bionet in her childhood. She joins GGG as their programmer and operator.

  • Bridge Bunnies: Upon the retrieval of Guy Shishioh, Alouette is in charge of overseeing and activate the Final Fusion Program Drive for Guy’s GaoFighGar since Hana’s new to the business with her head already going bananas just to focus on GaoGaiGo. Plus, Alouette is the developer of it after all.
    • Later during the final battle with Guy piloting the GaoGaiGar from the past with Mikoto as his operator, Alouette is assigned as Renais' operator who took over GaoFighGar.
  • Brought Down to Normal: She lost her memories and her intelligence during the battle with Bionet allowing her to live as a normal girl, at least until she regain her memories by King of Kings.
  • The Cameo: She has three in FINAL:
    • In episode 2, she can seen from the back when the coup d'etat of 3G is announced.
    • In the beginning of episode 5, she is seen with Mikoto riding Gundober.
    • In episode 8, she appears in the upper-left corner with her mom when Mamoru's parents are shown.
  • Child Prodigy: She is the one who created the Final Fusion program for GaoFighGar; and was only 5 years old when she achieved it. She aged on to Teen Genius by the time she’s recruited to the new generation GGG.
  • Damsel in Distress: She was kidnapped by Bionet at the start of the story.
  • Designer Babies: She was experimented by Bionet when inside her mother's womb which resulted in her intelligence.
  • Easy Amnesia: A blow to the head was all it takes to erase her memories.
  • Gratuitous French: She tends to say some french words ocassionally.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: She does some ballet moves when pressing the button to active the Final Fusion Program Drive.
  • Rescue Romance: Falls for Kaidou after he saves her from a Bionet agent.

     Keita Aono
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a05_00.png
Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (JP, SRW-30)

The former protagonist of Betterman who has been living a happy civilian life working as a home electronics salesman. But then one day he somehow caught himself with a Kakuseijin V2 in his hands and ends up joining GGG as their pilot.

  • Ace Pilot: Despite not piloting within the the 10-year gap since the end of Betterman, his battles using the Kakuseijin V2 show that his skills have not waned.
    • This extends to his exploits piloting GaoGaiGo with Hinoki too, making excellent use of it's Synapse Attack to hold out in a pitched battle against Ruin King J-Der
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Mamoru and Hinoki from Ruin Volfogg
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: Played for Laughs. He'd just taken out a thirty-year mortgage on a new house for him and Hinoki… only to see it smashed by a Zero Robo. Once Chandi, Mitsuo, and Kei send the Kakuseijin V2 over to him… let's just say he wholeheartedly activates his "Vindictive Mode"…
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's usually quite spineless, but when he enters his "Vindictive Mode," he can kick a lot of ass.
  • High-School Sweethearts: With Hinoki. They aren't married yet, but Keita managed to propose to her after the fight in G-Island.

     Hinoki Sai
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a06_03.png
Voiced by: Kyoko Hikami (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

Former co-protagonist of Betterman and Keita's Childhood Friend-turned-girlfriend, she now works as a part of the Gutsy Global Guard's Intelligence Division.

  • Covert Pervert: While she's loyal and happy in her relationship with Keita, she's not blind to the attractiveness of the men around her, notably getting flustered at seeing Mamoru in his dive suit. A line from Keita also indicates she enjoys their messing around a lot more than she lets on.
  • High-School Sweethearts: With Keita, whose proposal she accepts.
  • Mandatory Unretirement: Briefly comes back into the field as one of Kakuseijin GaiGo's Head Divers after Ikumi is rendered hors de combat. She later becomes a Head Diver for Kakuseijin V2 alongside Keita.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Whenever she puts on her Dive Suit, it becomes clear that her chest has gotten even bigger in the 10 years since the end of Betterman. Unfortunately, she's now at a point where she's wondering how she never had a problem wearing such an exposing outfit before.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She now wears glasses, and is a part of GGG Blue's Intelligence Division.

     Ayame Ushiyama, née Hatsuno

Mobile Unit Lead Operator of GGG Blue who is currently on maternity leave, which her little cousin Hana came in to fill her place.

  • Bridge Bunnies: She was the one assigned to oversee and active the GaoGaiGo Final Fusion program before Hana.
  • Happily Married: Ayame married Tsuguo 2 years prior to the start of the story, and now just gave birth to a son name Hajime.

     Tsuguo Ushiyama
Voiced by: Hiroaki Ishikawa (JP, Drama CD)

The lead maintenance operator and the second eldest of the Ushiyama brothers. He was friends with Keita back in high school.

  • Happily Married: He married Hana's cousin, Ayame and has a son name Hajime.

     Sueo Ushiyama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a07_01.png
Voiced by: Hiroaki Ishikawa (JP, Drama CD)

A Childhood Friend of Mamoru, Ikumi, and Hana since elementary school who now followed his brothers, Kazuo and Tsuguo's footsteps in becoming a GGG maintenance operator.

     Yamajii
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (JP, Drama CD)

A veteran engineer for Akamatsu Industries who now is the Chair of GGG's Espionage Division.

     Long-Li Yang
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a08_02.png

A veteran Gutsy Galaxy Guard member who now is the Supervisor of Gutsy Global Guard.

  • Like a Son to Me: How he sees Chuuryuu, which leaves Yang heartbroken when the Super AI is corrupted by Triple Zero and then destroyed.
  • Secret-Keeper: He is the only one aside from Mamoru and Ikumi who is aware about the similarities between the Conqueror King and Genesic GaoGaiGar.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: Type 2. Yang is a good guy by all standards, but he as a high-end A.I. mecha developer has the preference to work on mechs for strength and defense in times of war over disaster relief. Such as if he had to decide between GGG putting attention in disaster relief or Project Z, he would likely side with the latter.

     Shigeru Akamatsu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a09_01.png
Voiced by: Chafurin (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

The son of Liger Shishioh and former owner of Akamatsu Industries, Shigeru became the Director of GGG marine base and Chief of Gutsy Global Guard through a buyout during its reorganization post FINAL.

     Sakura Akamatsu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a10_01.png
Voiced by: Junko Iwao (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

Shigeru's daughter who’s in coma. She’s kept under GGG for her linkage to the "Limpid Channel," which allows her to read the minds of beings around her, and to pick up important informations.

  • Damsel in Distress: She was kidnapped by the Somnium Deus after the fight with Ruin King J-Der and put inside of StraightGao's head.
  • Older Than They Look: She's chronologically 25, but looks like a teenager due to her not aging whilst in her coma.
  • Out Of Body Experience: A decade before the story her spirit separated from her body and wandered aimlessly, until she came to dwell for several years in the South American Sepulchrum where Rakan lived.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: Deus put her inside of StraightGao to power-up the Conqueror King.

     The Three Doctors
Composed by Tohru Nozaki, Minoru Inobuzaki and Akiko Hirata, they were all turned into Zonders and after being purified became operators at GGG.
  • True Companions: They have been worked for 10 years and developed a tight bond, best shown when together they deleted Entouji's virus by covering each others backs.

Gutsy Galaxy Guard (GGG Green)

The team of braves who were left behind in the Trinary Solar System and rendered M.I.A. by Earth 8 years prior to the start of this series. The mission to retrieve these members, dead or alive is the ultimate goal for Gutsy Global Guard.

Editorial Note: Being main heroes of the first two series, general tropes in regards to GGG Green members goes to either The King of Braves GaoGaiGar or The King of Braves GaoGaiGar: FINAL. Tropes that bridge Betterman characters, and new entries in relations to GGG vs. B should be placed here.

    In General
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: For them only a few weeks had passed since they left to the Trinary System, but on Earth, 8 years have passed; which set the retrieved GGG members in initial confusion.
  • Older Than They Look: Due to the Trinary System is on a different time space than Earth, all GGG members who were in the Trinary System aged only a few weeks since FINAL compared to humans on Earth, who already advanced 8 years in age.

Codenamed as “Evoluder Guy,” Gai was a young astronaut who became a Cyborg Mobile Unit pilot for GGG and gained back his human form by evolving into an "Evoluder" note  over the course of The King of Braves GaoGaiGar series. Now hailed as Earth’s legendary hero, he was the first member of GGG Green who was safely retrieved and reunited with GGG Blue due to being ejected through a dimensional gate near Jupiter by Galeon.

  • Badass Longcoat: Starts wearing one as the Acting Chief of GGG Green.
  • Celibate Hero: Due to Guy’s Evoluder genetic makeup being predominantly alien. While already Happily Married and having the right to reproduce, Guy is concerned that if he had biological offsprings with Mikoto, who herself is also a Semi-Evoluder, their genetics would potentially produce a race of Earthlings as super humans, and feared racism would come between future Evoluders and regular humans. Therefore, when it comes to family raising topics, he voiced his opinion to adopt rather than to reproduce.
    • His opinions may change after his final battle with Betterman, which resulted in Guy’s dominant alien gene being taken out; devolving him into a Semi-Evoluder. But this is left up in the air, literally.
  • Last of His Kind: Sort of. After Guy's return to the GGG base, he's made Acting Chief of GGG Green and Captain of his mobile unit by virtue of being its only member.
  • Passing the Torch: Due to being the only one with the power to perform, Guy had no other choice but to serve as GGG’s Mobile Unit pilot for the past two series. Now that there's a new generation of pilots installed, he's more than happy to step down from his position to properly fulfill his dream of following his mother’s footsteps in becoming a space scholar flying the galaxy by the epilogue.
  • Red Baron: The Brave.

     Renais Cardiff Shishioh
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a14_0.png
Voiced by: Yumi Kakazu (JP, SRW-30)
Daughter of Liger Shishioh, younger half-sister of Shigeru Akamatsu and Soldato-J's love interest.
  • Ship Tease: Carrying on from FINAL, she has some with J. During the battle in Antartica, she wields the fallen King J-Der's J-Quath as a broadsword and fights back to back with J in J-Der, the narration noting the comfort she takes from hearing his voice without even seeing him. She also joins him, Guy and Mikoto in their journey aboard the J-Ark in the ending.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Piloting GaoFighGar during the final battle certainly counts.

     Mikoto Utsugi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a12_7.png

Guy's wife and lead operator for GaoGaiGar.

  • Happily Married: She married Guy at the beginning of FINAL with their ceremony stopped mid-way, but eventually they get to go on their "honeymoon" by the end of GGGvsB.

     Liger Shishioh
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a15_0.png

Shigeru and Renais' father, and one of the world's top ten scientists.

  • Hates Their Parent: He's on the receiving end of this trope, as all of his offsprings, especially the bastard group, openly hates him for his Really Gets Around resume and wholeheartedly goes Nom de Mom; formally disowning their relations with Liger. This includes Renais, but she is by far the only known one who softened up to accept her dad’s surname.
  • Really Gets Around: Liger had 7 different marriages and fathered 28 children; most of them being bastard children.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Liger and Leo had one, though Liger considers his late brother as the better one for being able to create many different equpiments for GaoGaiGar based in Galeon's data.

     Koutaro Taiga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a13_4.png
Voiced by: Kouji Ishii (JP, SRW-30)

Former Chief of Gutsy Galaxy Guard now the brain behind the plans of the Conqueror's Thralls.

  • The Chessmaster: His ability to properly evaluate the situation and create plans is as good as ever, unfortunately his plans now have the objective of destroying humanity.

     Soldato No.J- 002
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a16_00.png
Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono (JP, SRW-30)

Simply known as “Soldato J,” he is the last surviving member of the Soldato corps created by Abel of the Red Planet. Now corrupted by Triple-Zero, he pilots Ruin King J-Der the “Conqueror King of the Red Planet.”

  • But Now I Must Go: After they finally save Earth from Triple Zero, J decides to leave the planet because a peaceful planet is unfitting for a warrior like him.
    • In the end he goes alongside Guy, Mikoto and Renais in a space travel to find more sources of Triple Zero.
  • The Rival: To Guy, though this time J accepts Guy as the stronger one for not being corrupted by Triple Zero.

GGG Mecha

     Mobile Unit: GGG Blue

Porc-Auto / Big Porc-Auto

A robot designed to help Renais on her missions as a part of Chasseur. His Ai was based on Eric "Gentleman" Fowler, Renais's partner who was killed in battle.
  • Back from the Dead: Porc-Auto was destroyed in a mission prior to the events of FINAL but a back up of his AI was saved by Professor Liger.
    • Came Back Strong: During his time as Renais'partner Porc-Auto was damaged and lost his ability to transform in humanoid form, this was fixed when he was rebuilt and was also given the ability to turn into Big Porc-Auto.
  • Expy: He is one to Volfogg. He can even combine with two robots similar to the Gunmachines to become Big Porc-Auto.
  • The Cameo: He or a car that looks like him shows up in the second episode of FINAL being driven by Renais.
  • The Rival: Fowler had a rivality with the person Volfogg's AI was based on, this influenced both their A.I.s during the battle against Ruin Volfogg in G-Island.

Getsuryuu and Nichiryuu

Getsuryuu (Moon Dragon) and Nichiryuu (Sun Dragon) are twin sister robots made by GGG Germany. Unlike their older siblings they don't seem to get along very well. Their combined form is Seiryuujin.
  • Berserk Button: For the love of all that is good, do not hurt Shouryuu!
  • Fusion Dance: They can merge together to become Seiryuujin. Later on they can also merge with Shouryuu becoming ShoSeiryuujin. Later still, after freeing Kouryuu and Anryuu from the control of Triple Zero, the four Brave Machines' SympaRate exceeds 200 percent, and they perform the same Miraculous Symmetrical Docking used by their brother Braves, becoming Kiryuujin (Kouryuu and Nichiryuu) and Shinryuujin (Anryuu and Getsuryuu). In the same chapter, the insanity gets cranked up even further still when the Bettermen fuse to ShinRyuuJin's armor and create Musou Shinryuujin.
  • Running Gag: Just like Enryuu, Rairyuu and Anryuu before her, Nichiryuu inherits their inability to land properly.
  • Sibling Rivalry: The two have one due to being sent on separate missions from each other. This prevents them from developing a complete SympaRate needed to perform Symmetrical Docking.

Shouryuu

Shouryuu (Flying Dragon) was initially designed around the same time as Volfogg and he was meant to combine with Chouryuujin. However, due to GGG's urgent need to develop the Goldion Hammer, his construction was delayed until he was finally activated in 2009.
  • Accidental Misnaming: There's a Running Gag where Shouryuu will call Porc-Auto by a different name to his current form, like saying Porc-Auto while the latter is in it's Big Porc-Auto form.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest of the Super A.I.s with Getsu and Nichi being so protective of him that Shou being in danger is something that allows to fuse despite their typical differences.
  • Fusion Dance: He can realize a Triple Docking with any fused dragon, the resulting mecha will have "Sho" at the start of it's name.
  • Running Gag: Calling Big Porc-Auto "Porc-Auto" and vice-versa, prompting [Big] Porc-Auto to correct him.

     Mobile Unit: GGG Green

Galeon

The mechanical lion that fought alongside GGG through many battles, now corrupted by Triple Zero he became the Conqueror King of the Green Planet who will destroy humanity. Later in the story the Somniums travel to 2003 and brought the past Galeon from inmediatly after the fight against El-02 to help in the war against the Hakaioh apostles.
  • Detachment Combat: Corrupted Genesic can separate from the Genesic GaoMachines and they fight independently.
  • Gentle Giant: Galeon is a giant robot but it's still very nice, like making sure he doesn't scares Mamoru's child in the epilogue.

Mic Sounders the 13th

A Super AI developed by the NASA. He's the first Conqueror's Thrall fought on Earth.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: He showed just how dangerous those empowered by Triple Zero can be by being quite a match against GaoGaiGo.

GoldyMarg

A Super AI developed to combine with GaoGaiGar so it could use the Goldion Hammer safely.
  • Berserk Button: Goldy wasn't happy to meet DoubleMarg.
  • Came Back Strong: After being purified he was put inside the DoubleMarg turning him into GoldyDoubleMarg.
    • He later came back as the Goldion Finger.
  • Gravity Master: GoldyDoubleMarg can neutralize gravity shockwaves and create gravity blades which can be used with great precision.
  • Taking the Bullet: Saved Guy from Genesic's Broken Will Knife.

Civilians and Other Characters

     Leo and Kizuna Shishioh
Guy's parents who both passed away in incidents in Jupiter which lead them to become one with Triple Zero.
  • Backup from Otherworld: Both have been dead for years by the start of the novel but their connection with Triple Zero allows them to still help the heroes.

     Yuka Koala
An Australian girl who took care of Ikumi when he was injured before the events of Final.

     Valnar of the Sea
A Killer Whale who was turned into a G-Stone cyborg like Guy. After the Invisible Burst, maintenance had become difficult so her biological functions could not be ensured, eventually her organic body was unable to go on. Afterwards her brain was used as Kakuseijin GaiGo’s core.

     Kei
An orphaned boy raised by Chandi, because she can communicate telepathically Kei didn't learn to speak normally and needs Chandi as an intermediate. It's implied he is Kaede and Shou's child.
  • Pretty Boy: Keita notes that Kei is quite good looking.
  • Raised by Wolves: This trope was name-dropped by Keita when Mitsuo explains Kei's past.
  • The Stoic: Kei never changes his expression from an emotionless one, he probably doesn't even understand emotions.

     Mitsuo Ushiyama
The third in line of The Ushiyama Brothers, and the only one who’s not enrolled in the GGG program. Mitsuo is a college student currently walking the earth busy doing his field of research. He was saved by Chandi along the way and somehow caught himself with the issues relating to the Kakuseijin V2.

     Angelica Anemone Akamatsu
Shigeru's estranged wife and Sakura's mother. Angelica is a titan in Prosthesis Development affiliated with GGG Germany, and was the person in charge over the development of the cyborg bodies for Guy and Renais.
  • Alliterative Name
  • Missing Mom: After the incident where Angelica lost all her limbs she inmersed in her research and wasn't present much in Sakura's life, something Angelica regrets.
  • Irony: Angelica lost all her limbs from an incident and made a set of prosthesis for herself sometime over the course of this franchise.

     Sakura Isogai
Formerly Taiga's secretary as the president of the Space Development Corporation, now she became the secretary of Heart Clover, the current Secretary-General of the U.N.

     Spoiler Character

Tsubasa Amami

Child of Mamoru and Hana born before the epilogue.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Tsubasa's gender is left open-ended.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Tsubasa is born between Hana, an Earthling human, and Mamoru, a psychic human alien.
  • Meaningful Name: Mamoru blessed his child to one day be humanity's “tsubasa”—Japanese for “wings,” be it a pioneer of some form or an ambassador for Earth if ever comes the time Earthlings gains more connections and access with the broader galaxy.

Bettermen (Somniums)

     In General
  • Adaptive Ability: By consuming an Animus Seed they can change into a form better adapted to the current situation.
  • The Cavalry: In every single chapter.
  • Creepy Good: They are on humanity's side but the fact that they can turn into monstrous forms by consuming fruits born from people that went crazy is quite unnerving.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: They first appeared in the Project Z trailer.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: All of them except for Lamia.
  • Fusion Dance: During the battle against the Conqueror King, the seven Betterman combined themselves into one form called "Amalgam Betterman" and what Akamatsu dubs "Bettermen." According to Deus, its true name is "Cataphract."
  • Perpetual Frowner: With the exception of Rice, they always have a scowl on their faces that never seems to go away.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: They all share the same type of eyes: red sclera and white pupils.
  • Telepathy: They communicate through the Limpid Channel which connects all living beings, this makes them unable to communicate with the robots.

     Lamia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a17_6.png
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (JP, Drama CD / SRW-30)

The same Somnium that appeared in Betterman, now he leads a group of Somniums whose mission is to fight against the Conqueror King. He is also preparing for an event referred as the 'Age of Patria'.

  • Cryptic Conversation: Pretty much everything he says is this.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Subverted in that he does not die in the final battle itself. He pushes himself too far in his fight with Guy, but survives just long enough to see the other Somniums leave Earth before dying of exhaustion.
  • Hey, You!: He doesn't refers to humans by their names, instead uses various titles like "Being of Light" for Mamoru.
  • The Leader: Of the Somniums who will challenge the Conqueror King.
  • The Stoic: Never changes his expression from an emotionless one.

     Rice
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a18_6.png

  • Perpetual Smiler: In contrast to every other Somnium, he almost always has a smirk on his face.

     Sara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a19_6.png

A young female Somnium who joined Lamia after being saved by the latter from a dimensional hole.

  • Body Horror: The novel mentions that her portals open withing her body. Averted in the manga.
  • But Now I Must Go: Inverted. Because of her role as the gate, she cannot join the rest of the Somniums in their new world, leaving her as one of the only two Somniums left on Earth.
  • I Owe You My Life: Her loyalty to Lamia stems from a life debt she owes him after he saved her.
  • Support Party Member: Aside from creating portals, Sara has no other ability, not even a transformation on her own.

One of the Somniums recruited by Lamia to combat the Hakaiou. Before the story he used to have a close relationship with the Somnium Bodaiju who shared his tolerance to the seed of Turba.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Similar to Bodaiju, his skin is of a darker shade than his comrades', but given their status as non-humans, it's hard to tell if the
  • Big Brother Instinct: He is very protective of Sara.
  • Blow You Away / Razor Wind: The Turba seed gives him the ability to control the wind and create vacuums.
  • Brutal Honesty: He has no problem speaking his mind, regardless if he is talking to someone stronger.
  • Last of His Kind: Downplayed. After the rest of the Somniums depart for their new home, he decides to stay with Sara, making them the only Somniums left on Earth.
  • Warrior Monk: Like Bodaiju before this seems to be aesthetically only.

Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima (JP, Drama CD)

A female Somnium that has been allied with Lamia since around 2010. Before joining Lamia, she was close to the Somnium Seeme with both having resistance to the Animus seed Lume.

  • Light 'em Up: The Lume seed allows her to manipulate light in offensive ways.
  • True Companions: She and Lamia have a very close bond compared to the others.
  • Vapor Wear: She wears a transparent dress that shows she is naked under it.

     Rakan (Arhan)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a22_1.png

A Somnium living alone in South America who joined Lamia's group after being defeated by the latter. He's a researcher who at the start of the story was raising animals thought to be extinct.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: He believed himself to be the strongest Somnium, enough to defeat the Conqueror King alone, this is why he initially rejected Lamia's request to join the group.
  • Fusion Dance: Rakan's Pectofores Sanctus ability enables him to do this with other living creatures, usually other Somniums.
    • He can fuse with other living beings like animals when fighting Lamia.
    • Later during the fight in Jupiter he fuses with the other Somniums to form Amalgam Betterman.
  • The Smart Guy: He's quite intelligent, thanks to his research he is able to produce Animus Seeds like Forte artificially or creating new species of seeds like Ougu.
    • Later he managed to develop a technique to purify Triple Zero, and even later to empower himself and his fellow Somniums with it without risk of being corrupted.
  • Verbal Tic: He often says "Nnn..." before speaking.

     Hiiragi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a23_2.png

One of the Somniums recruited by Lamia to fight the Hakaioh. He has resistance to the Pondus seed which gives him gravity powers.

  • The Blank: His Pondus form has no visible face.
  • Gravity Master: In his Betterman Pondus form he can control gravity to create black holes.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite his appearance he seems be quite kind.
  • Nemean Skinning: He wears what seems to be a bear skin.
  • Undeathly Pallor: His skin is grey giving him the look of being a frozen corpse.

     Deus

According to tales Deus is an inmortal being who has saved his species from extintion many times throughout history.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: None of the other Somniums like this guy. Even Rice, who usually has a smile on his face, scowls at the sight of him.
  • It Amused Me: His basic motivation to change the timelines.
  • Not Quite Dead: He was cut in half by Lamia due to his actions. But in his final moments he reveals he left offshoots of himself in every timeline he visited.
  • Sadist: He takes great pleasure in watching civilizations go extinct.
  • Sore Loser: After being outsmarted by the other Somniums and having his stash of Tempus seeds stolen, he decides to kidnap Sakura and deliver her to Conqueror King Genesic in order to power him up, in hopes it would kill everyone.
  • Time Master: He has the power to travel through time freely, though he can't influence events directly and can only pass information obtained by observing future events.

Antagonists

     Bio-Net
An international criminal syndicate that has operated since at least a decade before the original GGG was founded. During the events of the original series they remained hidden until after Mamoru left Earth, after that they started a conflict with GGG which is still on-going during the events of the novel.

In General

  • Hoist by His Own Petard: One of their victims was a Bio-Net general who after being purified revealed the location of their headquarters.
  • Would Hurt a Child: They have no problem using children as test subject, Renais is a good example.

Doctor Thanatos.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a24_0.png

Current leader of Bio-Net.

  • Ax-Crazy: He got infected with Algernon which made him go mad, this is the reason of Bio-Net's recent illogical actions.
  • Evil Knockoff: His Imitation Zonder Robo form looks like Genesic.
  • Evil Old Folks: He is old and the leader of a terrorist organization so this goes without saying.

    Conqueror's Thralls
Beings who have been turned into vessels for the mysterious extra-dimensional force "Triple Zero" and now seek to reduce every living thing in the Solar System into particles of light. They serve as the main antagonists of King Of Kings: GaoGaiGar vs. Betterman.
  • And I Must Scream: They are completely aware of their actions but are being forced to obey the cosmic laws and destroy humanity.
  • Big Bad: They serve as the main antagonists of this series.
  • The Corrupter: Corrupted the entirety of GGG (and Soldato J) with the exception of Guy.
  • Demonic Possession: Takes over Genesic GaoGaiGar to use as its body.
  • I Have Many Names: Originally it was known as Oath Over Omega, then dubbed Triple Zero by GGG and finally was called Hakaioh by everyone when it appears over Jupiter.
    • It doesn't help that Hakaiou has multiple meanings due to the kanji used. 覇界王 mean supreme, world, and king respectively. The English fan translation for the novel and manga uses Overlord before it was changed to King of Ruin. And then there's the completely untranslatable spoken-language element to it all: 覇界王 is, in spoken language, a perfect homonym for 破壊王, or "King of Destruction", which is basically their true goal and calls back to FINAL and the various reveals about Genesic GaoGaiGar's intended role (and all the talk of "creation vs. destruction" from the Sol Masters). In the English version of Super Robot Wars 30, Haikaiou is offically called Conqueror King while the collective group as a whole is called Conqueror's Thralls.
  • Incendiary Exponent: Nothing quite screams "using the Power to carry out the will of a god of destruction" than the robots it possesses constantly being engulfed in an orange flame.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Leo speculates that it influenced the Z-Master into attacking Earth.
  • The Reveal: It is the source of The POWER and the origin of the universe.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Even lampshaded by the main cast. Conqueror's Thralls and the Zero Robos are extremely similar to the defeated Zonderians and Zonder robos from the original GaoGaiGar.
  • Wham Shot: It's the being seen at the end of the Project Z trailer.
    • Done at the end of the third manga chapter of Hakaiou: GaoGaiGar vs. Betterman.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: They wish to save the universe by destroying humanity who they view as a threat.
