"I propose we break the containment... and let the Egg start to spread."
"I know all. I see all. I am all. This world is mine. It belongs to me."
The Egg
An alliance created by Bad to expand the power of the Badlands and spread the parasitic influence of the Crimson (see below). By the time of Season 4, most of the cultists have since been freed of their ties with the Egg and have gone back to either prior alliances or going solo.
  • The Atoner: The majority of those influenced by the Egg has since renounced their brainwashed days and have tried to make amends with those they wrong, clearly regretting falling under its influence.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: While most members of the alliance were somewhat decent people, their actions under the influence of the Crimson are usually beyond their morals, ranging from rampant destruction of property to celebrating the death of a teenager.
  • Cult: They more or less function like one, recruiting other members of the SMP when they're weak or demoralized, and constantly praising how aligning with the Egg will make you feel happy and fulfilled.
  • Doomed by Canon: Since the L'Sandberg Arc takes place in the future where Bad and Ant have been freed from the Egg's influence and remorseful for their actions, the Eggpire will fall at some point and leave their members freed from the Egg's influence.
  • Egg MacGuffin: Arguably in Volume 1, as Bad reveals that the Eggpire aims to feed others' life energies to the Egg so that it would hatch.
  • The Empire: The Eggpire aims to take over the world and gain power using the Egg. Its name also is a portmanteau of 'Egg' and 'Empire'.
  • The Fundamentalist: Arguably, all members of the Eggpire are religious zealots under the influence of the Crimson who disagree with anyone who is neutral towards or against the entity that they serve.
  • Grayscale of Evil: For characters who already had red as a signature colour on their skins, the red bleaches out to white when they are under the Egg's influence. This is most notably seen with Bad and Hannah.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Anyone under the influence of the Egg is capable of manipulating their victim to either lure or kill them to serve the Egg.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The Eggpire's main color scheme is black and red, and they're an evil cult.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Several players who have been influenced by the Crimson have had their eyes turn red. The exceptions to this are Bad, whose outfit's red highlights turned white, Skeppy, whose whole body turned red, and Hannah, whose red and pink outfit along with red roses around her house turned white.
  • Red Is Violent: Characters under the influence of the Egg often take on a red colour scheme, and commit violent acts like killing their fellow server members to serve the Egg. Subverted with members of the Eggpire with red as one of their dominant colours before the Egg got to them, as they end up with a Grayscale of Evil colour scheme instead.
  • Religion of Evil: The alliance intends to spread the influence of the Egg to the entire server. At one point, Technoblade even compares the members of the Eggpire to Mormons.
  • The Theocracy: Arguably, since the Egg brainwashes members of the server to spread its parasitic influence, who often use manipulative tactics to recruit others and aim to kill or brainwash those who opposite it.
  • With Us or Against Us: The Eggpire's entire principle. While they do try and convince people who don't like the Egg to like it, they especially detest people who are neutral towards it, as it implies that the Egg has no influence on them.

    The Crimson/The Egg
"I will give you your heart's desire... I will give you what you want..."
The Crimson is a mass of red vines/tentacles, originating from a central red mass known as the Egg. It grows uncontrollably, and has the capability to control people's minds, making them protective over it and aggressive to those trying to remove it. Nobody knows what it is, or where it came from, all we know is that it's spreading.
  • Alien Kudzu: A bright red, organic substance that spreads all across the server if someone is not actively stopping it.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Given its nature as an Outside-Context Problem, a lot about the Crimson is still very unclear, such as its origins, its purpose or motives. It seems to at least be sentient, but even that's a little unclear.
  • Arc Villain: Of the aptly named 'Egg Arc'.
  • Botanical Abomination: The Crimson manifests as vines and tendrils, and it grows very much like a plant.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: At the end of Volume 1, not only do over half a dozen server members end up massacring themselves as an unintentional sacrifice, it manages to completely take over Puffy and has hatched into its next form.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Under direct influence of the Crimson, people can be driven to harm others if they reject the influence.
  • The Bus Came Back: During the Red Banquet, the Crimson went dormant after its Eggpire was outsmarted and defeated, but in early March 2022, about 10 months later, Crimson vines began to spread all over the builds on the SMP again, building up to it being Back for the Finale of Volume 1.
  • Charm Person: Those affected by the Crimson become absolutely infatuated by it, affectionate towards the Crimson and extremely hostile to those who seek to get rid of it, their only goal to help the Crimson spread further.
  • Cold Iron: According to Sam Bucket, the reason he wears a bucket on his head is because the Egg is weak to iron. However, it's also been stated that this weakness is temporary, implying that the Egg will gradually gain resistance to it over time while being exposed to it.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Its 'defeat' only marked the end of the Eggpire with the looming threat of Technoblade remaining.
  • Evil Is Petty: Seeing as how the Egg is acting almost entirely directly through the Eggpire, the Eggpire's party celebrating Tommy's death can be seen as this.
  • Garden of Evil: The Egg Chamber itself is reminiscent of this, being filled with Egg tendrils.
  • Hearing Voices: People being influenced by the Egg often claim to hear it talking to them, although the viewers never hear these whispers. That is, until one of BadBoyHalo's streams, where it spoke in a soft, creepy, whisper, only understandable when played in reverse. Foolish and (very occasionally) Sam hear it speaking the right way around; Bad also gets to hear it speaking vocally the right way round in the Volume 1 finale.
  • Hydra Problem: In early March 2022, Bad revealed that the Egg can reproduce from spores left from by its vines leading to more Eggs like it.
  • Holy Burns Evil: The only thing the Crimson seems to be weak to is water from Church Prime, and the church's robes have been successfully used as makeshift hazmat suits to protect the wearer from its influence.
  • I Have Many Names: Says this word for word when conversing with Foolish after his death, and states that Foolish should know this... but he's forgotten something.
  • Killed Off for Real: After menacing the server for over a year, the Egg is seemingly finally destroyed for good by Foolish on June 3rd 2022 after he decided to use his immortality to bypass the Egg's ability to inflict pain on those who attempt to mine it. It's subverted, as it's later revealed that the blocks consisting of the Egg simply moved elsewhere when it was mined, much like a Dragon Egg.
  • Lava Adds Awesome: Subverted hard. The Crimson's tendrils are partially composed of magma blocks, and the Egg can turn water encased in it into lava, and it's definitely a problem, even if it's not actively malicious.
  • Lured into a Trap:
    • A very common tactic for the people affected by the Egg to lure the victim into the chamber.
    • The Red Banquet also turns out to be this, with the Eggpire inviting various members of the server, several of whom are Pro-Omelette (in opposition of the Egg), to a banquet supposedly to make peace and turn over a new leaf, but eventually trapping the attendees in the Egg Chamber with lava curtains, and planning to execute them one by one and feed their life energies to the Egg.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Anyone who is under the influence of the Egg is capable of manipulating to either lure or kill the victim to serve the Egg.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Its plans to hatch nearly come to fruition in the Red Banquet if not for Quackity, Technoblade, and Purpled showing up at the last minute.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: It possesses a Healing Factor that allows the Egg to regenerate from explosive damage via nearby magma blocks and directly attempting to mine it causes physical pain to anyone except Tommy.
  • No-Sell: Even with a barrage of TNT raining down on it, the Egg is still able to quickly regenerate, as seen during the Red Banquet. Justified in that the members of the Eggpire took care to reinforce it against explosions after Quackity tried to blow it up.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Let's just say, in a story that up until that point had mostly been about war, political conflicts, and moral dilemma, a ball of red vines with Mind Manipulation abilities slowly trying to invade the server was not something anyone could have expected. It's later revealed that the Egg is not, in fact, native to the lands of the Dream SMP, making this a more literal interpretation of the trope.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Subverted. While it hasn't actually said anything offensive (yet), Tommy and Philza claim it is — with Tommy going so to pretend to be a translator, claiming the Egg had said offensive slurs.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: Implied. The Crimson is directly controlling Skeppy rather than possessing him to do its bidding. Unlike the others who were corrupted by it, he didn't try to get anyone else infected, but instead just wanted to go back to inside the obsidian where the Egg is.
  • Really 700 Years Old: The Egg has a very mysterious past. We know for sure that it appeared in the Tales From the SMP episode "The Masquerade", which presumably takes place in the late 19th to early 20th centurynote . This alone puts the Egg at 100 years old at least... then the Egg reveals it is older than Foolish, making it much older than most initially expected.
  • Red Is Violent: It's a red entity of some sort that drives those under its influence to violence.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Bad and Puffy attempted to contain the Egg in the room below the spider spawner, where it was first found. It worked for a time, until Bad decided that letting it spread would be more beneficial, and removed the barrier.
  • Secret Identity Vocal Shift: When conversing with Foolish after his death, the Crimson starts talking forwards for the first time, and reveals that he and Foolish have met before he joined the server.
  • The Virus: It behaves this way, corrupting and influencing people exposed to it, to varying degrees. Most people hear voices and become infatuated, but prolonged, direct influence is especially dangerous, as seen with Skeppy and Sam.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Tommy is so far the only person who is completely immune to the Crimson's influence... and it does not like that.
The Crimson: Kill the boy... Tommy must die...

    Captain Puffy

"I might not be the main character in the story, but sometimes being the support character is more important."

In-game name: CaptainPuffy
Preferred name: Puffy
"Right now, this– this castle is just a hollow nothing, it's just a title. It's just a title. Right now, it doesn't represent security or safety or anything for the citizens of the Dream SMP, 'cause this just happens! And there's no consequence, ever! It just– it just happens, and people just get sad, and they just have to suck up their feelings and move on. I don't think we should do that anymore."
Niki's girlfriend and formerly one of Eret's knights. Puffy was added shortly after the Manburg-Pogtopia War, and spent a lot of her time fixing up the server by helping in L'Manburg's rebuilding effort and filling in creeper holes.

After the detonation of L'Manburg for the final time, Puffy did a lot of soul-searching on what it means to be a knight, and came to the conclusion that Dream is the true enemy of the server. She formally denounced him, and seeks to train herself to become better, in order to prevent the next disaster. She was a resident of Snowchester, but she's more concerned with helping people than faction loyalty. She moved to the New World after the destruction of her restaurant, but after being dragged back to the main server for her birthday party, she ended up getting fully possessed by the Egg.

Puffy has three lives left.
  • The Aloner: During Season 4, Puffy leaves the main SMP to live in the new world following the destruction of her restaurant.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She starts calling Dream her duckling after several instances of him closely following her around.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Her initial skin was a rainbow-colored sheep.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Puffy can't remember any of her life before she joined the server on November 16th, although she's starting to find clues about her past; she was apparently a pirate captain seeking some kind of treasure in order to break the curse on her family.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: In the Season 4 Eggpire finale, Captain Puffy is Lured into a Trap at her house for her birthday party and somehow becomes corrupted by the Egg in the process of being held prisoner. Her going missing results in the massacre of seven of her fellow server-mates, two of whom she personally kills under the influence of the Crimson.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: While Puffy was a starting member of the Eggpire, its influence on her has always been minimal, allowing her to break away from them fairly easily. That is, until the Season 4 finale, when she is Lured into a Trap at her house for her birthday party and somehow becomes corrupted by the Egg in the process of being held prisoner. She ends up murdering two of the seven party-goers under the influence of the Crimson.
  • Break the Cutie: The Red Banquet does this to her, forcing her to see her son be ritualistically sacrificed to the Crimson before giving into her instincts and brutally murdering Antfrost in revenge. After this, she turns away from the path of the knight, and embraces the path of distrust.
Captain Puffy: Never would I have thought that I would have been the one to swing the axe, to kill somebody, to draw blood, to end a life, it would have never been me. I would have bet it against any odds when it first joined, and it is me! And I'd do it again. (Beat) I'd do it every time, I wouldn't change the outcome, change the odds knowing it all. If I could go to the Red Banquet again, KNOWING WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN, I WOULD HAVE KILLED THEM ALL TO START WITH!
  • Carnivore Confusion: At one point, she accidentally eats a piece of cooked mutton and is immediately horrified at herself.
  • The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: Despite having decided to take up the role of therapist, Puffy has plenty of problems of her own that effectively take her out of the role for the time being. By Season 4, Puffy, heavily jaded from the server's issues, has since abandoned trying to go about her therapy business, ditching it in favor of selling drugs and giving the role over to HBomb and Tina.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Puffy enjoys chaos and finds the idea of siding with Dream to be very appealing. Later on, she's even named one of Eret's knights. However, she still cares a lot about Niki and doesn't want to betray her in any way. After L'Manburg's destruction, she comes to the conclusion that Dream is the true enemy of the server and denounces him, though she stays loyal to both Eret and Niki.
Puffy: And the saddest part, the worst part of it all, is that it was done by Dream. And Techno. And just... People who I considered friends, my– my duckling! I– This is just– Where do you draw the line? Where– Where do my loyalties lie at this point? I– I don't wanna– I don't wanna cross-team, but I also just don't– this is just... I mean... Who am I supporting if they're literally just doing this?!
  • Create Your Own Hero: Puffy started out as a member of the Eggpire when it started, though the Egg's influence on her was minimal. What made her turn to being one of the most outspoken members of the Pro-Omelette alliance was that the Egg was willing to hurt innocent people to achieve its goals, including the two teenagers she had gained a soft spot for.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Dream of all people inflicts this on her when he just silently follows her around like a little duckling while she was off collecting wood. He does it again later on, this time with the assistance of a trident, until she gifts him TNT to make him stop.
  • Failed a Spot Check: She was the only one to spot Tommy and Technoblade sneaking around L'Manburg during the Vengeance Arc, but since she could only see their armor due to their invisibility potions, she's unable to identify them.
  • Foil: To Niki. Both are emotional people who are compassionate and willing to help and support their needs, and both follow their own beliefs. However, when it comes to expression, Niki tends to quietly hold grudges without anyone noticing, but she loses some of her morals, becoming more willing to hurt people who helped her before and take actions that only benefit herself. On the other hand, Puffy openly expresses her opinions, and keeps her willingness to save others and do what's best for the people. Puffy fought for L'Manberg, while Niki burned down one of their monuments. The two also have opposite relations towards Tommy; Niki planned to kill Tommy, while Puffy is somewhat of a parental figure towards him. Niki viewed Tommy as someone who brought chaos and destruction towards the adults, but Puffy views the adults as the ones who'd brought chaos and destruction towards Tommy. Much like Niki, she too has reached a breaking point that has caused her to fall down the path of "villainy".
  • Good Is Not Soft:
    • Puffy is usually known to be a kind and motherly figure, but when you mess with her children... well, just look at what happened to Antfrost during the Red Banquet.
    • She eventually evolves into this as she enters her "villain arc", swearing vengeance on those who betrayed her trust.
Puffy: But to the people that failed me, to the people that I've trusted time and time again and just taken my trust and– and thrown it in the trash — those people, those people I say, "Welcome to Doomsday."
  • Heroic BSoD: After witnessing Dream being locked up in the prison he commissioned, Puffy couldn't handle another heartbreak. That was until she saw Awesamdude being betrayed and dropped into a pit right above the Egg by BBH and Antfrost. Shocked and grieving, she cast away her knighthood and turned towards anarchy.
  • Horned Humanoid: Puffy has sheep-like horns on the side of her head.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Puffy, a sheep-human hybrid, seems to have developed the strange habit of treating God-like entities on the SMP like her kids: the first being Dream, whom she called her duckling (but never actually adopted), and the second being Foolish, whom she outright adopts moments after giving him a tour of the SMP.
  • It's All My Fault:
    • Puffy partially blames herself for the destruction of L'Manburg, insisting that, if she'd just stood up to Dream and tried harder like Tommy said, things could have turned out differently.
    • She also blames herself for Tommy's death, feeling guilty for not being there to stop it, and considering herself a failure.
Puffy: Oh, I screwed up... Oh, I screwed up so bad... I should've been there for him, I thought he was only gonna be in for a week! And... And it was... It's 'cause of Dream! I... I feel so responsible, I just... (sigh) [...] It is part my fault, if– if I was there, I could've– I could've stopped it, I could've talked maybe sense into Dream, and– and– and Sam, and may– Argh... Oh, we could've gotten him out! And now it's too late, it's too late!
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: She wears a crimson gown to the Red Banquet and avenges her son's death in it. Justified in that she didn't really have time to change, since shit went down real fast during the incident.
  • Knight Errant: After the Doomsday War, she resigned as a Knight of Eret and became neutral with Snowchester citizenship, and wanted to make the SMP a better place and protect the vulnerable from those who abuse their power. However, she became disillusioned after the Red Banquet and abandoned her morality in the aftermath of the bloodbath that would have been.
  • Mama Bear:
    • When Puffy heard Bad plan to trap Tommy and Tubbo inside the Egg-room. Puffy was completely horrified and did not tolerate the Eggpire's motive to get a hold of Tommy.
    • Puffy always wanted to try to redeem the Eggpire, and considered them her friends even after they got more and more extreme. However, she made it clear that she would no longer be holding back once they threatened to kill her son, Foolish, and when Ant actually went through with it, she took out the axe Quackity gave her and beat him to death in cold blood.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She was absolutely horrified with herself after killing Ant during the Red Banquet, and after escaping the Egg's chamber, proceeds to have a crisis.
  • Only Sane Woman: Becomes this when the Eggpire decides to throw a party in Tommy's house and hotel after his demise.
  • Pirate Girl: Prior to joining the SMP, Puffy apparently used to be a pirate captain.
  • The Prankster: When she isn't helping rebuild L'Manburg, Puffy spends her time pranking the other SMP members like Eret or Fundy.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Puffy reached this when she discovered the Eggpire celebrating Tommy's death, only refraining from killing them all on the spot due to her respect for Tommy's memory.
    • After seeing Foolish get executed by the Eggpire, when Quackity, Technoblade, and Purpled change the balance of power, she uses the netherite axe Quackity gave her to kill Antfrost.
  • The Shrink: She tries to be Type 3 (the Awesome type), but her own mental health problems take her out of the role for now. By Season 4, she's since ditched the occupation to be a drug dealer and allows HBomb and Tina to take a crack at it.
  • Sweet Sheep: She's a lot nicer than her fellow sheep SMP member Schlatt.
  • Team Mom: Puffy is a very kind person. Willing to help people no matter where they stand, she dearly cares for the children and doing her best to prevent the Egg spread to other players in the server.
  • These Hands Have Killed: After she takes Antfrost's first canon life, she has a mental breakdown over killing her friend, even though he was planning on killing her at the time.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Downplayed. Niki is the generous Girly Girl to Puffy's bubbly and sometimes trickster Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak. They both love baking and flowers, and have set up their own flower shop.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Her faith in people and desire to help others pretty much took an irrecoverable hit after the Red Banquet. She has since abandoned being a therapist and embraced the server society's broken nature that allows conflict and war. As of Season 4, it's to the point where she (and H) assures Tina that doing crimes on the server in the name of excitement and want of conflict is fine, given what has happened.

    Skeppy

"The soul that has concieved one wickedness can nurse no good therafter."

In-game name: Skeppy
Preferred name: Skeppy
Bad's best friend and a later member of the Badlands, Skeppy ended up in possession of one of the Discs (Cat) and though not really agreeing with Dream, fought with him to stop Tommy from gaining it, but eventually lost the disc to Dream. Skeppy later ended up sacrificing himself to the Egg to save Bad, reducing him to a soulless husk, empty of any and all emotion or desire. Following his first death Skeppy seemingly got back his senses, freed from the Egg's control. However, during the Eggpire finale of Volume 1, it was revealed he was still loyal to the Egg — working with it to sacrifice as many people as possible in exchange for his wish to be granted

Skeppy has two lives left. He lost his first life after being accidentally pushed into lava by Bad. He is also tied to his friend Bad's life count — Bad loses a life only when Skeppy himself does, making Bad unkillable otherwise.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Skeppy is a anthropomorphic diamond block, However, most fan depictions of Skeppy depict him as a human wearing a blue beanie or box mask with a blue hoodie. The animated segment in the Season 4 Eggpire finale also depicts Skeppy with the box mask variant design, showing that he has brown skin, much like his content creator counterpart.
  • Cassandra Truth: Skeppy was one of the first to call Dream out, right after he joined the server for the first time, shortly after L'Manburg won its independence. While he didn't point out Dream's role as The Chessmaster, he did note and call out Dream's contradictory words and actions and his weird obsession with L'Manburg.
  • The Chessmaster: Who shoved Puffy into the pit with the Egg? Who planted false evidence that got the Puffy partygoers at their throats enough to kill each other? Enough souls to get the Egg to hatch? As it turns out, Skeppy was responsible being scarily good at getting people to slaughter each other even when not possessed by the Egg.
  • Gem Tissue: Skeppy takes the form of a sentient humanoid Diamond block, or as the Wiki puts it, a "crystal structured human".
  • Keet: Skeppy is very energetic when not corrupted by the Egg.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Inside and outside the SMP, Skeppy tends to be very energetic. This makes his lethargic-sounding/creepily monotonous voice after being stuck inside the Egg severely jarring.
  • Odd Friendship: Keet Skeppy is friends with the snarky, reclusive Techno.
  • Recycled Set: In-universe. After Technoblade suggests that Skeppy go through Awesamdude's maze, he later decided to use the maze to troll Bad.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Skeppy acts as the energetic Red Oni in comparison to Bad's easygoing Blue Oni behaviour. Ironically, their colors are inverted. He later becomes the Blue Oni after his corruption by the Crimson turns him into a lethargic being with a Creepy Monotone. Ironically enough, this flip in personality occurs when his skin color changes to red.
  • Soul Jar: Type 2. He appears to serve as one of sorts for Bad — only when Skeppy dies will Bad will lose a canon life, though whether this means Bad initially had three canon lives, and loses a life every time Skeppy does, or has only one canon life, and can't die until Skeppy is Killed Off for Real, remains unclear.
  • Troll: Skeppy enjoys poking fun at and messing with Bad and other people on the server.
  • Those Two Guys: He is best friends with Bad and generally goes along with whatever he does.
  • You Are Worth Hell:
  • You're Insane!: Skeppy calls Dream a psychopath after listening to him ranting about L'Manburg. In retrospect, this can also be seen as (probably unintentional, given the story's format) foreshadowing to many of Dream's future actions, most notably the "Skeppy Cage" in the Hall of Attachments, and Tommy's response to which echoes Skeppy's earlier words.

    Sam Bucket
In-game name: awesamdude
Preferred name: Sam Bucket
"SAM BUCKET!"
An enigmatic entity bearing resemblance to Sam that has a strange fascination for buckets. Although initially appearing to just be a silly individual, he is one of the earliest people to make contact with the Egg even prior to Bad discovering it.
  • The Dragon: He's this to the Egg, being the one of the earliest known followers of it and an active spreader of its influence.
  • Due to the Dead: During his second encounter with Sam Bucket, Bad witnesses the former placing buckets on gravestones... which bear his name and Foolish's.
  • Gate Guardian: He appears to guard a strange red portal hidden within the escape tunnels Bad used during the Red Banquet.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Both of Bad's lore streams involving Sam Bucket keep things ambiguous on whether he is real or just a figment of Bad's imagination.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: He makes quite frequent use of this during his encounter with Bad when the latter attempts to trap him in obsidian repeatedly. He always reappears right behind Bad regardless of how much obsidian is used to trap him.
  • Pokémon Speak: He communicates solely by saying his own name repeatedly.
