Masters

    In general
  • Badass Normal: Compared to the Servants, they're all just regular humans, but they're no less equally involved in the success of each and every disaster that's come their way.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Two of Chaldeas Masters aside from the Fujimaru siblings were previously enemies towards Chaldea, but they eventually chose to defect from the Crypters for one reason or another.

    The Fujimaru Siblings

Ritsuka and Gudako Fujimaru

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arctic_region_chaldea_uniform.png
Heroes of Chaldea
After having participated in a blood drive and ended up being hounded by someone at Chaldea to participate in the Master Aptitude test, Ritsuka and Gudako Fujimaru joined the organization as low-ranking Masters. After Lev's betrayal, they became the only Masters capable of defending Chaldea and correcting human history.
  • The Ace: They didn't start out as this originally, but as time went on, they became one of the most remarkable Masters to ever exist. After all, not many can earn the Undying Loyalty and respect so many heroes, including some of the more unsavory individuals.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Inverted. When Gudako, who is being harassed by Da Vinci and was previously trying to feel her up under the excuse of tearing off her clothes for an examination, claims that her boobs don't need to get any bigger, Da Vinci claims that Joan (Jeanne Alter) and the Count of Monte Cristo would be interested. She promptly blushes.
  • Bash Brothers: Bash Siblings more like. Both Ritsuka and Gudako have been fighting together with the Servants since they arrived at Chaldea.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: According to Da Vinci, Joan has an interest in Gudako.
  • Everyone Can See It: Just about everyone who knows Ritsuka has made some joke about how he and Mash should just hook up already.
  • Experienced Protagonist: By the time they arrive in Remnant, they've dealt with situations such as Human History being incinerated, a literal extraterrestrial equivalent to a divine deity bleaching the planet, and worlds where human history was expunged and threatened to overwrite the history of the world. If they ever decide to get involved in the affairs of Remnant, Salem is by far the least threatening being they will face at this point.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: Considering all the shit these two have been through, being transported to an alternate dimension doesn't faze them nearly as much as it probably should.
  • Morality Pet: They serve as this to many of the more darker-aligned Servants, all except for EMIYA Alter who once tried to force Gudako to back off by threatening her when she tried to get him to open up. Illya, Kuro, Irisviel, EMIYA and Kiritsugu promptly reminded him just why that was a bad idea.
  • Non-Action Guy: They obviously couldn't help out given the massive dangers they faced, but they were able to help their Servants in other ways.
  • Oblivious to Love: Subverted. Ritsuka is heavily implied to have feelings for Mash, and if Da Vinci's teasing is to be taken at face value, Gudako is fully aware that Joan and the Count like her.
  • Retirony: Ritsuka expressed the hope that he and Gudako would be able to go back home, since the Lostbelt incidents had been resolved. Then Da Vinci threw those plans out the window by getting all of Chaldea sent to Remnant...
  • Undying Loyalty: They inspire this from the Servants, having grown attached and fought alongside the Fujimaru siblings enough that they are not only True Companions, but some even thinking them as Morality Pet(s) and their Morality Chain.

    Kadoc Zemlupus

Kadoc Zemlupus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kadock_zemurpus_3.png
Originally one of the Crypters, Kadoc was a member of the A-Team that was tasked with dealing with the incineration of Human History. Following the events of Cosmos in the Lostbelt, he has returned to Chaldea and is one of the active Masters.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: He's the brooding boy to Anastasia's gentle girl, more so now as the Anastasia with Chaldea is considerably more open and warm than the Anastasia he had a contract with.
  • Character Title: A subtle one. Zemlupus is derived from the proto-Baltic word zemja, which can mean 'country' or 'land', and lupus means wolf. So combined, they mean 'Country of Wolves' or, with a bit of a stretch, 'Land of Beasts'.
  • Creepy Shadowed Undereyes: He has dark circles under his eyes, coming from both stress and a lack of sleep.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: Though he was an enemy to Chaldea during the Lostbelt incidents, he somehow found himself returning to their side and is an active Master alongside the Fujimaru siblings.
  • Easily Forgiven: He feels this is the case, as the siblings and some of the Servants have apparently already forgiven him for his previous actions against them. He's still otherwise doubtful that everyone has fully forgiven him, noting that the Lostbelts had occurred rather recently.
  • Nice Guy: He was previously seen as one prior to becoming a Crypter according to da Vinci, and returning to Chaldea has warmed up him considerably, no longer having any jealousy towards the Fujimaru siblings and has a good relationship with some of the Servants, including Osakabehime.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Played with. He's fully aware that the Anastasia in Chaldea is not the one he had a contract with and previously had a difficult time being around her before Anastasia, having retained some of the memories of her Lostbelt counterpart, managed to make him more comfortable around her.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: He's described as such by Glynda when she first meets him, in comparison to the likes of Salieri who can cut down Grimm lightning-quick, or Tesla and his ability to conjure ludicrous amounts of voltage.

    Ophelia Phamrsolone

Ophelia Phamrsolone

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ophelia_portrait.png
A member of the A-Team and previously one of the Crypters under the service of the Alien God, she was originally an enemy to Chaldea until the events of her Lostbelt. Thanks to the efforts of Medea and EMIYA, she survives the events of her Lostbelt, but is still in the middle of recovery.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Possibly thanks to Medea and EMIYA using Rule Breaker, and likely the reason she even managed to survive her Heroic Sacrifice, she no longer has her Mystic Eye. Additionally, she is still recovering and thus isn't an active Master in Chaldea.
  • Cute Bookworm: She spends her time in the infirmary reading books that Mash gives her.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In Cosmos in the Lostbelt, she sacrificed her life by using her Mystic Eye to sever the connection between herself and Surtr. Here, she manages to survive due to Chaldea's efforts.

    Scandanavia Peperoncino

Scandanavia Peperoncino/Aro Myorenji

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scandinavia_peperoncino.png
A member of the A-Team and previously one of the Crypters under the service of the Alien God, Scandinavia "Pepe" Peperoncino ruled over the India Lostbelt until its destruction. Following the events of the Lostbelts, he has rejoined Chaldea in their current adventure. He is the master of Arsene Lupin.
  • Agent Peacock: His Command Seals are shaped like lips encircled by a heart, and he's rather friendly and casual in spite of being a mage.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: His first name is the name of a European region while "Peperoncino" literally translated to hot peppers. Justified in that it isn't his real name.
  • Friendly Enemy: He was this to Chaldea during the Lostbelt incidents, but he's since joined their rank once everything was said and done.
  • Last-Name Basis: Everyone calls him by his last name or simply "Pepe," largely due to how ridiculous his first name is.
  • Nice Guy: Even when he was an enemy of Chaldea, he was friendly and lacking in malice. That hasn't changed now that they're on the same side.

Servants

Earth

    Solomon

Solomon

Class: Caster

  • Back from the Dead: While all Servants are this, technically, his case is more impressive, considering he had erased himself from the Throne.
  • Butt-Monkey: So far he's suffered a Groin Attack and then had Nightingale attempt to treat him for it. Considering his other identity's status as this trope, it's perhaps not surprising Solomon's luck is so terrible.
  • Groin Attack: Was subjected to one by Gudako less than a minute after being summoned.

    Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci

Class: Caster

  • Mission Control: Da Vinci's typical role in Chaldea is remaining at base, monitoring the situation and providing advice from the sidelines.

    Mash Kyrielight/Shielder

Mash Kyrielight

Class: Shielder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gochar2_7.png
Servant of the Shield
A member of the Chaldeas Security Organization, and resident Demi-Servant. She had lost her powers after the Lostbelt incident was resolved, but regained them following Chaldea's transfer to Remnant.
  • Adaptational Badass: Courtesy of Galahad offering her all of his abilities rather than hampering her progress or offering a limited skillset. Though it was for training purposes, she was able to fend off three Berserker Servants, including Lancelot and Darius III, something she would have trouble doing all on her own previously.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Her surname, "Kyrielight," is a mishmash of the words kyrie and light, the Greek word for lord and English word for, well, light, respectively. Her first name "Mash", on the other hand, is an actual name in Hebrew.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a rather sweet and kindhearted young girl on top of being a bit of a book nerd, but she's also a Servant who is now capable of taking on some of Chaldea's heaviest hitters.
  • Brought Down to Normal: After the Lostbelt incidents were resolved, Mash lost her powers as Shielder for unexplained reasons, likely because Galahad believed she wouldn't need them anymore. After Chaldea is sent to Remnant, however, he changes his opinion and gives her his full powers.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Has light purple hair and eyes.
  • Designer Babies: She was created specifically for the purpose of becoming a living catalyst so Chaldea could create a living Demi-Servant. While the experiment did work, Galahad was not happy about what had been done and refused to help Chaldea until Goetia and the Demon Pillars enacted the Incineration Order.
  • Everyone Can See It: Pretty much everyone can see her feelings for Ritsuka.
  • Glacier Waif: She's a bit on the short side when you compare her to some of the other Servants, but her defensive capabilities are not to be underestimated, especially now that Galahad is giving her the full package.
  • Hidden Buxom: You wouldn't know it based on her clothes, but Mash has a very incredible bust.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her primary weapon is a giant shield that is bigger than she is tall, but she can use it to a terrifying degree. In the event she is not wielding it, she switches to a sword.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Technically, due to her unique nature as a Demi-Servant. She has Galahad, one of the more famous members of the Knights of the Round, to thank for this.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname can literally mean "Lord of Light" or "Light of the Lord".
  • Nice Girl: She is kind and sweet to virtually almost anyone she meets.
  • Shield Bash: She does this at the start of her spar with Darius, though she herself is shocked and surprised by the amount of force put behind it, showing that she has undergone Adaptational Badass territory.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Alongside the strange girl that appeared in Chaldea after it arrived on Remnant, she can understand whatever Fou says.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Took a lesson from Captain America and throws her shield at Darius during their spar, which bounces its way back to her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Courtesy of Galahad giving her full access to his abilities, making her far stronger than she was during the Singularities and the Lostbelts.

    Gilgamesh (Caster)

Gilgamesh (Caster)

Class: Caster

    Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla

Class: Archer

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Tesla may be a boisterous man with a Sitcom Archnemesis style relationship with Edison, but don't forget that he's a genius inventor. When he and his rival work together, they're able to not only restore communication for the entirety of Remnant in a matter of hours, but in the process make the system better than it was to start with.
  • Large Ham: Possibly one of the hammiest Servants in Chaldea.

    Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison

Class: Caster

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Much like Tesla, Edison's strange appearance and often petty rivalry hides a keen intellect. When he and Tesla put their bickering aside, the results are impressive, as evidenced by them fixing and improving the CCT system in mere hours.

    Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale

Class: Berserker

    Ereshkigal

Ereshkigal

Class: Lancer

    Ishtar

Ishtar

Class: Archer

  • Stripperiffic: When first meeting her, Pyrrha blushes at how little her outfit hides, and Ozma finds himself trying not to look directly at her.

    Antonio Salieri

Antonio Salieri

Class: Avenger

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Wears the pinstripe suit from his second ascension when he's investigating Vale.
  • Dance Battler: Glynda compares him to one when she sees him fight a pack of Beowolves alongside Tesla.

Remnant

    Pyrrha Nikos

Pyrrha Nikos

Class: Lancer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pyrrha_profilepic_normal.png
The not-so-Invincible Girl
Known as the "Invincible Girl" for having never been defeated, Pyrrha Nikos was a student training at Beacon Academy to become a Huntress and was placed on Team JNPR. During the Battle of Beacon, she attempted to stop Cinder Fall, but was sadly killed, with Jaune Arc later reforging his weapons and armor with what remained of her own weaponry and keeping her sash as a memento.

Upon discovering her tiara with Ozma's scepter and one of Solomon's rings, Chaldea summons her as a Lancer-class Servant.
  • The Ace: When she was alive, her moniker was not earned without reason and remained the Mistral Tournament Champion for three to four years. However, this saddens her greatly as her success also means that other people don't try to associate themselves with her because of the pedestal she's been placed on. This status becomes subverted once she realizes that almost every Servant in Chaldea can trounce her, and she is ecstatic.
  • Achey Scars: When she thinks about Cinder, the spot on her chest where Cinder shot her with an arrow starts to hurt.
  • Adaptational Badass: While she is certainly skilled, if Pyrrha was still alive when she fought Nero, Romulus and Leonidas in their spar she would have lost much earlier.
  • Apologizes a Lot: She has a habit of doing this. She apologized profusely to Leonidas after she unintentionally kicked his private parts. Thankfully for her, he doesn't hold it against her and tells her it isn't the first time it's happened to him.
  • Back from the Dead: Not in the typical sense, as Servants are usually copies of Heroic Spirits placed in a temporary vessel that has a specific skillset that relates to which class they're summoned innote .
  • Badass Normal: As far as being a Servant goes. She hasn't accomplishing anything even remotely close to what the other Servants have and lacks their incredible powers. All she has is her Semblance and her weapons, which were designed to kill Grimm like every other weapon on Remnant.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In Chapter 8, upon hearing that her team and Ruby are in danger, she rushes to save them and arrives just in time to engage the Wendigo Grimm just as its about to finish off a weakened Team RNJR.
  • Blood Knight: Lampshaded by Solomon, who realizes after watching a recording that she's smiling despite losing to her opponents. Up until now, everyone Pyrrha' ever fought barring Cinder was defeated easily. She absolutely loves the fact that she is no longer the so-called "Invincible Girl" now that she knows that the Servants in Chaldea can kick her ass.
  • Catchphrase: She had a habit of saying "Sorry!" whenever she did something, such as pin Jaune to the wall with her spear when they first met or during Initiation where she pinned him to a tree. She says it again when she knees Leonidas in the balls by accident.
  • Combat Stilettos: Her knee-high boots also have high heels. Ruby definitely would have loved to know how in the world she could fight in those things.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: How she died. Being shot in the heart by Cinder with an ordinary arrow would have been a peaceful death compared to being shot with an incendiary one and being burned from the inside out.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Almost every fight Pyrrha participated in was this to her, which was also why she earned the name "Invincible Girl." The fact that the Servants of Chaldea can not only give her a run for her money but also beat her makes her very happy as it more or less shatters that image almost completely.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: She rescues a man from Tyrian Callows by punching him. She had only intended to knock Tyrian down, but she underestimated her strength as a Servant. She ends up launching Tyrian through a wall.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: She's not at all happy with the way people put her on a pedestal because of her accomplishments. Jaune not knowing anything about her, except her being on the face of a cereal brand he eats, is what endears her to him. She finally gets her wish when she's summoned by Chaldea, thereby being surrounded by hundreds of people who have not only accomplished things she could only dream of doing, but are way stronger than her.
  • Instant Expert: Upon being summoned, Pyrrha instantly has knowledge about the world Chaldea hails from, their legends and histories, as well as their exploits.
  • Lady Legionnaire Wear: Her attire makes her look like a Greek Hoplite. This causes the Roman and Greek Servants to mistake her for one of their own and think that Mistral, a Kingdom based on eastern influences, is Remnant's version of Greece or Rome.
  • Lady of War: She's female, and her combat ability is not to be underestimated. There was a reason why everyone called her the Invincible Girl.
  • Lonely at the Top: Because of her reputation and skills, what few people that do interact with Pyrrha believe that they don't deserve to be standing with her as equals. Jaune having no idea who she was made Pyrrha warm up to him quite fast.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Her shield, Akoúo̱, is tough enough to let her smash straight through trees.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Her semblance allows her to affect the polarity of any metal object around her. At full force, she can thrown objects around like they're nothing and, with minimal usage, manipulate her opponent's weapons and armor just enough so that no one, not even her opponent, will notice what's going on.
  • Mistaken for Subculture: Because of her outfit and weapons, the Greek and Roman Servants think she and her Kingdom, Mistral, are similar to them.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Short skirt? Check. Of Corsets Sexy? Check? Impossibly-Low Neckline? Check. Remind us again, how in the hell did Jaune not notice her sooner?
  • Precision-Guided Boomerang: Her shield always comes back to her, even when she throws it at her enemy. This is most likely because of her semblance bringing it back to her.
  • Sniper Rifle: One of the forms her weapon can take.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: How Pyrrha views her situation. As much as she wants to see Jaune again and be at his side, she knows it will only be temporary due to her being a Servant. Once Chaldea returns to their home dimension, she'll either disappear or go with them. Either way, her reunion with Team JNPR would be a temporary one. Even so, Ozma does urge her to try and see the boy.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She apparently stands at 6'0" ft tall, a few inches taller than Ren and around the same height as Jaune, and she's one of the most beautiful characters in RWBY.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite being incredibly gifted and being recognized for greatness, Pyrrha isn't at all happy with all the attention she receives. See I Just Want to Be Normal and The Ace above for more details.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Miló is destroyed during the fight with Cinder, not long before Pyrrha herself is killed. When she's summoned as a Servant, they're fully functional.

    Ozma

Ozma

Class: Ruler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_pr50irepdh1qcx5xv_1280.jpg
The Wandering Hero
A wanderer who traveled across the world of Vytal before the God of Darkness eradicated the first iteration of humanity following their rebellion against him and the God of Light. Gifted in the art of magic and capable with a sword, he was called into action by the lord of his home to defend their lands from a corrupt neighboring lord. The encounter exposed Ozma to the tyranny of the corrupted nobility and set off to free anyone and everyone oppressed by their rule.

Upon discovering his scepter with Pyrrha Nikos' tiara and one of Solomon's rings, Chaldea summons him as a Ruler-class Servant.
  • Adaptational Badass: While it's hard to gauge just how powerful Ozma was before he was reincarnated, he still counts as, compared to his present-day self Ozpin, he's still capable of magic, and his abilities are all increased on account of becoming a Servant.
  • Alternate Self: Not in the sense that he's from an alternate dimension or a counterpart, but this is the man who Ozpin used to be and appears to lack the Headmaster of Beacon's secretive nature. It's implied that Ozma sees Ozpin as this, referring to him as a "poor old man." He goes a bit further into this in Chapter 6, describing himself as "Ozma the Wanderer" and comparing his own situation to Alexander, the younger incarnation of the famed Conqueror of Heroes, Iskander.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Inflicts one on Tyrian not long after arriving on Anima.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Did this twice. He was offered the chance to become the Champion to the God of Light, but he refused. The God of Darkness also offered him the same position, plus greater power and gifts than what he had given to humanity. Like the God of Light, Ozma refused, but was incredibly nervous because the God of Darkness wasn't too happy about the refusal. The only reason he spared Ozma was because he was interesting for having refused the creators of Vytal and humanity itself.
  • The Drifter: He traveled across Vytal when he discovered that the corrupt nobles were oppressing the people they ruled over, seeking to help everyone he could. His feats garnered the attention of the Brother Gods and was even given the chance to become their Champion, but refused as he didn't want to a) get involved in any sort of politics that come with the job and b) only get involved in the affairs of Vytal when there was a wrong that the God of Light perceived and must be corrected.
  • Future Me Scares Me: Subverted. He's fully aware that he still technically exists in the world of Remnant as Ozpin and has all of his memories, but he pities what has become of his present-day self and hopes that the "poor old man" can find peace one day.
  • Humans Are Special: If the description of his Noble Phantasm is of any indication.
  • Instant Expert: Not in terms of skills or weaponry, but in the affairs of the world.explanation  Ozma is a bit of a unique case as he has his present-day self's memories as well, and thus is aware that humanity was killed off once before in the past, as well as his relationship with Salem having turned sour. He also has knowledge of the events in Chaldea's world and is aware of their exploits.
  • Jack of All Stats: Servants Report 1 reveals that all of his stats are B or higher, putting him on equal grounds to other top-tier Servants like Gilgamesh.
  • The Lost Lenore: On odd case, but he's the Lenore. His death pushed Salem over the Despair Event Horizon and served as one of the key factors behind the events leading to the extinction of the first iteration of humanity.
  • My Greatest Failure: He had no control over the situation whatsoever, but he feels terrible to know that his death not only pushed Salem to the path of becoming the woman she is now, but also led to humanity being killed off the first time around.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: He's still deeply in love with Salem, but he's fully aware that their relationship at present is totally damaged beyond repair, especially since Salem is actively trying to ruin Ozpin's plans to unite Remnant.

    Arsène Lupin

Arsène Lupin

Class: Assassin

The eponymous character and protagonist of novels written by French author Maurice Leblanc, and the grandfather of all modern-day phantom thieves. Famed and renowned for his skilled acts of thievery and targeting criminals worse than himself, he was rarely ever caught by local law enforcement. He and Sherlock Holmes once crossed paths, and ever since their meeting the famous detective has been determined to capture him. It is unknown how Arsène qualifies for the Throne of Heroes, though given that Holmes knows of him personally, it is likely he was possibly based off an actual living person.

He is the fourth Servant to be summoned in Remnant, as well as the first Pseudo-Servant in Remnant. He is possessing Roman Torchwick, a well-known criminal who died during the Battle for Beacon.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Similar to Sherlock, Arsène is a fictional character yet is recognized in the Throne of Heroes as an Assassin-class Servant. How he qualifies is unknown.
  • Arch-Enemy: He has one in the form of Sherlock Holmes, who vowed to apprehend him following their first meeting.
  • Cane Fu: Given who he's possessing, need we say more? Unlike the original Melodic Cudgel, Arsène's cane has a silver blade at the end.
  • Composite Character: He's two master thieves in one; the famous literary thief and Remnant's very best criminal.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Says as much shortly after he's been summoned. Whether this is in regard to him being summoned in the first place as he's a fictional character like Holmes and Moriarity or some other reason is unknown at present.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: In regards to who he is possessing. Roman Torchwick was a skilled criminal and seemingly lacked the same level of Huntsman training that other characters such as Ruby have, but he was capable of fighting Ruby on equal footing on numerous occasions. With Arsène in the driver seat, he's even stronger.
  • Foil:
    • Arsène is what Roman would be if he operated with a moral compass in mind. While both are master criminals and incredible thieves, Roman was willing to work with a woman who was plotting the downfall of a Kingdom, not caring about the lives that would have been lost in the process. Arsène, on the other hand, cares about human life and detests criminals who are worse than he is.
    • Regarding their relationship with Holmes in their respective source materials, Arsène contrasts with James Moriarity. Moriarity was Holmes' natural Arch-Enemy and regularly fought with the famous detective on many occasions. With Arsène on the other hand, Holmes was a Canon Foreigner who was known by the name Herlock Sholmes (on account of copyright reasons).
  • Gentleman Thief: And a two-fer! Arsène is practically the posterboy and grandfather of all phantom thieves who came after her, while his host Roman was a master criminal in Vale.
  • Good Smoking Bad Smoking: Arsène appears to have picked up Roman's tendency to smoke as he produces a cigar when introducing himself properly to Chaldea upon being summoned.
  • Iconic Outfit: Unlike in most media he's portrayed in, Arsène isn't wearing his signature suit, cape and monocle. This is possibly due to him possessing Roman, a modern-day criminal.
  • Luck Stat: Servant Report 1 reveals he has EX-rank Luck. Then again, he is a world-renowned thief.
  • Pretty Boy: He's possessing Roman Torchwick, who was already regarded as a Bishōnen. It also probably helps that Arsène was seen as one in a few stories he appeared in.
  • Red Is Heroic: He wears a red jacket as part of his ensemble.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Arsène did this regularly, sending calling cards in advance to inform the police of his crimes, taunting them and stealing valuable and priceless treasures and artifacts all across Paris from right under their noses.
  • Shout-Out: His attire is partially based off of Raoul, Joker’s third-tier Persona. Coincidentally, Raoul is thought to be Arsène's birth name and is one of his most often-used aliases.

Remnant Natives

Team RWBY

    Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose

Admitted into Beacon Academy two years ahead of her peers, Ruby Rose is the leader of Team RWBY and aspiring Huntress. Armed with Crescent Rose, her custom scythe that doubles as a high caliber sniper rifle, Ruby wants to help as many people as she can, and goes through life with enthusiasm and optimism. She is currently travelling across Anima with the remaining members of Team JNPR to find the ones responsible for the Fall of Beacon.
  • Cassandra Truth: While scrolling through the news in Mistral, she happens upon a report involving the Branwen Tribe and immediately thinks about her uncle Qrow, only to dismiss the idea. Ruby has no idea that Qrow was born and raised in the Branwen Tribe until he distanced himself from them after coming under Ozpin's employ.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As soon as the CCT was back online, she was so excited she called Weiss, Blake, and Yang immediately. Unfortunately, the team hasn't fully healed psychologically, and the call very quickly shows that the team dynamic they once had is damaged, and needs time to be repaired.

    Weiss Schnee

Weiss Schnee

Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, Weiss Schnee is a member of Team RWBY and partner to Ruby Rose. Growing up under her controlling father's thumb, Weiss seeks to carve her own path and one day restore the dignity of her family name.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: By the time Volume 4 rolled around, Weiss had already defrosted significantly to the point where she was frustrated by the elitists of Atlas' callous remarks towards Vale and overall demeanor behind its decline. Here, she's remarkably even more so by acting as a voice of comfort to not just Ruby, but also to Yang when she asks her for advice on how to make things up with Blake.
  • Arranged Marriage: Since returning to Atlas and the network being restored, Weiss has received several marriage proposals from both her "friends" at the Atlas Academy and candidates suggested by her father.

    Blake Belladonna

Blake Belladonna

Once a member of the radical Faunus rights group known as the White Fang, Blake Belladonna is one of the members of Team RWBY. Burdened by her past, Blake seeks a way to fight for the rights of her people that does not resort to the same crimes as the White Fang, and to atone for her actions while working alongside them.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: She is on the receiving end of one by Ruby when she attempts to justify her reasons for leaving Team RWBY behind. Ruby asks her if running away is going to solve all of her problems. Blake's silence in response is very telling of this fact.
  • It's All My Fault: She blames herself for Adam cutting Yang's arm off and tries to use this as her excuse for leaving Yang behind. As far as she's concerned, the White Fang is targeting her and everyone around her is collateral damage. Ruby promptly calls her out on it and asks her if running away is really going to solve all of her problems.
  • My Greatest Failure: Aside from her failure to protect Yang when it mattered the most, she sees not listening to her parents' warnings about what the White Fang was becoming underneath Sienna's leadership and Adam's increasing aggressive behavior as this.
  • Oh, Crap!: She has this reaction when she sees her mother calling her Scroll.

    Yang Xiao Long

Yang Xiao Long

Daughter of Raven Branwen and Taiyang Xiao-Long, Yang is the older half-sister of Ruby Rose. Once the most boisterous member of Team RWBY, the Fall of Beacon left Yang scarred both physically and emotionally.

Team JNPR

    Jaune Arc

Jaune Arc

The leader of Team JNPR. A young man who wanted to be a be a hero like his grandfather, Jaune entered Beacon through the use of fake transcripts. After the Fall of Beacon, he travels with the remainder of his team and Ruby to Anima and defend Haven Academy from the individuals responsible for the Fall of Beacon.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Downplayed. Since Crocea Mars has been upgraded via adding new materials to its blade, the weapon's weight has changed significantly. Though he hasn't used it in combat, Jaune notes he hasn't gotten used to the change in weight just yet.
  • It's All My Fault: Clearly still has some guilt over what happened to Pyrrha during the Fall of Beacon.

    Nora Valkyrie

Nora Valkyrie

Energetic and eccentric, Nora is a member of Team JNPR, bringing her impressive strength into their battles. Originally growing up on the streets as an orphan, Nora came to find a companion in Lie Ren, and the two have been inseparable ever since. She is currently travelling across Anima with Ruby and the remains of her team to find the ones responsible for the Fall of Beacon.

    Lie Ren

Lie Ren

A quiet and reserved young man, Lie Ren is a member of Team JNPR. Orphaned when the Grimm attacked his childhood home, Ren has trained to become a Huntsman alongside Nora Valkyrie, his partner and companion since he lost his family. Like the rest of the remnants of his team, he is travelling with Ruby across Anima.

Ozpin's Inner Circle

    Glynda Goodwitch

Glynda Goodwitch

The current Headmistress of Beacon Academy, Glynda was originally the combat instructor and one of the few privy to some of Remnant's most carefully guarded secrets, such as the existence of Salem and the Maidens. She officially took command of the academy following the Fall of Beacon and is leading restoration efforts.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Ozpin's death, Glynda is officially named Headmistress of Beacon Academy, with all the authority and power the position entails. She's also spent a majority of that time attempting to restore Vale whilst also protecting the populace from the Grimm.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Said word for word when she learns Oscar, a mere farm boy, is the latest host for Ozpin.

    Qrow Branwen

Qrow Branwen

Brother to Raven Branwen and member of the defunct Team STRQ. He works under Ozpin's employ and travels across Remnant, fulfilling whatever tasks the man asks him to do. He is also the uncle of Ruby Rose and Yang Xiao-Long.
  • The Alcoholic: He is rarely, if ever seen without his trusty flask on his person.
  • Animal Theme Naming: He's obviously named after crows, which are supposedly harbingers of misfortune. Coupled with this is his Semblance, which makes him a walking bad luck charm.
  • Honorary Uncle: He is related to Yang biologically as his sister is her mother, but he is uncle in name only to Ruby, the daughter of his teammates. He treats her as if she was family nonetheless in spite of that.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: His weapon, Harbinger, is essentially a sword, shotgun, and scythe wrapped together in a deadly steel package that's easily capable of killing Grimm.
  • The Jinx: He is a walking one on account of his Semblance, which brings misfortune to him and everyone around him. It's partly to blame for his I Work Alone work method, but it helps screw up his enemy when its just him and his enemy fighting.
  • Meaningful Name: Crows are recognized as bringers of bad luck. He's named after them, and his semblance makes him a literal walking jinx.
  • Thicker Than Water: He doesn't hold his blood family in high regard considering they're bandits, and his sister less so because she abandoned Yang not long after she was born. Ruby, who is connected to him through his teammates, is one of the few people he holds close in his life to the point that, when Taiyang asked him to look after her when she decided to go to Mistral, he did so without complaint.

    James Ironwood

James Ironwood

A member of the Atlas Council and General of the Atlesian Army, James Ironwood is among those privy to the existence of Salem within Ozpin's inner circle. Following the Fall of Beacon, he is currently attempting to mend hostilities between Atlas and Mantle while dealing with Jacques' attempts to gain a foothold in the Atlas Council.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Ironwood was a nice person to begin with; the problem is that he has a bad habit of letting his paranoia get the better of him, as was demonstrated near the end of Volume 7. On account of the many nails caused by Chaldea, most prominently the restoration of the CCT Tower in Vale, Ironwood has not closed off Atlas' borders nor imposed a Dust embargo. His relationship with Robyn Hill is also changed. Instead of being hostile towards each other, one side keeping secrets and the other being suspicious of Ironwood's motives, Ironwood instead sponsors her election campaign.
  • Loophole Abuse: Atlas Council members like Ironwood cannot sabotage, intervene or interfere with anyone in the election campaigns. What Ironwood can do is sponsor someone who is running in the elections, as he chooses to do with Robyn Hill.
  • Properly Paranoid: He often lets his paranoia get the best of him, and in some cases it's been shown to bite him in the ass since Cinder managed to hack into the Atlesian fleet he brought with him and turn the Atlesian Knights and Paladins against all of Vale. That being said, he isn't wrong about believing the enemy is on the move, since Cinder implanted the virus for such an occasion besides taking control of the Vytal Festival's fighting roster for her own agenda.

    Leondardo Lionheart

Leonardo Lionheart

The Headmaster of Haven Academy, chosen by Ozpin in order to create a sense of equality between Faunus and humans due to Lionheart being a Faunus himself. Unknown to his peers, he is working for Salem and internally sabotaging Mistral.
  • Mole in Charge: Discussed. With communication back online, Glynda, Ironwood, and Qrow all note his strange behavior and wonder if he's been compromised.

Supporting Characters

    Taiyang Xiao Long

Taiyang Xiao Long

A retired Huntsman and member of the defunct Team STRQ, he is the father of Yang Xiao-Long and Ruby Rose and former lover of Raven Branwen prior to her departure, and to Summer Rose before she disappearance. He is helping Yang become accustomed to her prosthetic arm.
  • Cartwright Curse: Both the women he loved vanished. The first, Raven, left to live the life of a bandit, forcing him to raise their daughter alone. The second, Summer, vanished and is presumed dead, now leaving him two children to raise alone.
  • Good Parents: As in the main series, every impression he gives implies this to be the case.

Antagonists

    Salem

Salem

The Queen of the Grimm and former lover of Ozma. Alongside Ozpin, she is one of the original human inhabitants of Vytal prior to the first iteration of humanity's extinction.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: Subverted. She has forgiven Ozma for his "misguided ideals", but Salem will never forgive Ozpin for murdering their children when they were caught in the crossfire of their battle years ago.
  • Mama Bear: She cared a great deal about her four daughters, so much so in fact that their death is the primary reason why Salem will never forgive Ozpin, considering it was their fight that killed them in the first place.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: By her own admission, Salem isn't some cliché villain who wants to rule humanity or destroy it. Instead, she simply wants to keep them separated and unable to come together, as is one of the requirements for the Brother Gods to return and govern the planet once again. On a personal note, she's doing this to spite Ozpin, who was revived explicitly for that purpose.

    Cinder Fall

Cinder Fall

    Emerald Sustrai

Emerald Sustrai

    Mercury Black

Mercury Black

    Arthur Watts

Arthur Watts

    Tyrian Callows

Tyrian Callows

A former mercenary, Tyrian was discovered and brought to Salem's side at some point in time. After witnessing her power and beauty, he refers to her as his "goddess."
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Refers to Salem, an immortal woman capable of commanding the Grimm, as his goddess after he witnessed her power firsthand.
  • Berserk Button: Disrespecting Salem, who he revers as a goddess, is a quick way to anger him. Ozma presses it during their fight, but is too strong for Tryian's anger to make a difference.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He's dispatched effortlessly by Ozma, never once able to land a hit on the Servant before he is subsequently defeated.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: He views experiencing pain as proof that one is alive and their survival instinct at work. When it comes to inflicting pain, on the other hand, he utterly enjoys seeing the look of agony on his victim's face right as he is about to kill them.
