I don't know, but was it really a good idea?
Human... it was nice to meet you... goodbyeHow is this flame bait? The only thing I know is that it's really FUNNY!

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere needs to be some repairing or ruling about the "loses audience sympathy" part.
I see this trope applied a lot to moments where a character was acting out of anger, shock, or some other emotion. They're not acting in a rational way, but realistically no human would in their situation, the viewer just has the benefit of not having their emotional state when watching so they're not clouded by it.
It seems many times, these entries expect every character to be The Spock, but that in itself is completely unrealistic, and the lack of sympathy really says more about the troper adding the entry than the character themselves.
Tl;dr, there needs to be more focus on the "idiotic to the point we can't sympathise with it" and less "this isn't what a completely rational being would do."
So someone changed the "Fan Fic" link to "Fan Works", which is a red link, and for some reason, I can't change it back. When I try to save it just reloads the edit page without saving, meaning I can't fix the error myself. Typing the link into the URL lets me access the page, so it still exists, but I don't know why someone changed it in the first place.
Would it make sense to rename this trope 'Moron Event Horizon'?
It is I, the narrator, categorising addict and writer of books you haven't read. Hide / Show RepliesNot really. Snowclones should generally be avoided, and there's not anything Event Horizony about this trope.
No. It's fine the way it is. There's nothing irredeemable about characters doing idiotic things.
Does it count as what an idiot if someone in universe lampshades how moronic it was?
Hide / Show RepliesThink we should take all the advertising examples from the "other" sub-page and give them their own sub-page? Considering that this could include people Too Incompetent to Operate a Blanket, that could fill up pretty fast.
Alright what is the difference between this trope and idiot ball?
Hide / Show RepliesWhat An Idiot is just when a character does something incredibly stupid.
Idiot Ball is when a What An Idiot is necessary to drive the plot.
Edited by ading I'm a Troper!!!Not exacly(well it could've been back then...) Idiot Ball is when caracter established to be at least reasonably inteligent does something stupid, while What An Idiot is just a moment when some character does something violating common sense
What A Maroon!
Anyone else surprised this classic Bugs Bunny quote wasn't the Trope Namer?
Hide / Show RepliesNah, not nearly enough examples to justify a rename.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman... rename?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Oi. I was in the middle of a wick cleanup - should be "split".
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWho else thinks this should be renamed to avoid any [1]?
If it should, perhaps something along the lines of Unsympathetic Stupidity would fit well?
Hide / Show RepliesNah, I don't think there is a problem that requires renaming, and we've pulled this page already once through the Trope Repair Shop.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWe seriously need to put the "NO Justifying Edits" rule on all pages as well because its getting a bit silly.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowWhy do some real life examples don't identify the person? Like the one about the teacher abusing her sick leave?
Please reply, or else it makes me mad
I got my political views from reddit and that's badremoved the following from the anime page
- Love Hina: When Keitaro had to choose between Naru and Mutsumi and decide which of them truly was his long-lost childhood friend, who he made a promise to get into Tokyo University with and eventually wed.
You'd expect: He would pick Mutsumi, who is not only the second nicest person to him of the whole cast in general (Shinobu is the nicest), she's the only one who does not hit him when he does something that looks wrong. It's even explicitly stated she is a female version of him!
Instead: He picks Naru, who beats him regularly, calls him names, and once refused to study with him for fear of catching bad grades! Anvilicious is an understatement, here, people!!
However: It could be argued that the question isn't necessarily who he would decide to make that promise with now, but rather who is his Old Friend that he made the promise to then.
because this is a clear case of Shipping Goggles / Anti Shipping Goggles. There is no "right" answer or "idiot" move here. He's chosing the one he has the most feelings for. You can argue he shouldn't have those feelings, but he does and they're for Naru. The series even explicitly stated earlier in the show that he doesn't think about Mutsumi that way.
So, since when did this trope get moved from YMMV to Flame Bait?
There is no signature and there will never be one. Move along, kids. Hide / Show Replies
