Find a Trope:
openEffort is dumb
Is there a trope for when a person believes that chasing a dream is dumb? And therefore tries to convince someone else to stop either for resentment of his own dreams, or actually believing is best for the other person no not chase their dreams.
openSoundfont Change
Basically, what SiIvaGunner does. Keep the melody of the song, but change the soundfont.
Edited by 2ndBroopenNot Even Sure What to Call This one
Is there a trope page covering characters who are so "woke" they are parodies of themselves, in the same way that a Straw Feminist is the extreme-to-ridiculousness parody of actual feminists?
I've seen these sorts of characters around before — almost always in comedies — but I don't know if there's a trope page for them.
openAll Rumors Were True
Is there a trope about how when there are conflicting/doubtful/hostile accounts of a historical person's moral character, Historical Fiction always seems to go with the most lurid ones regardless of accuracy/plausibility for the sake of a better story?
e.g. Lucrezia Borgia will always be depicted as having at least one incestuous relationship, J. Edgar Hoover will always be shown as a practicing crossdresser, etc.
openWhat's EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether, but not in the past?
What's Everyone Went to School Together, but not in the past?
Like, Everyone Is Going To School Together, but the story isn't set in a school?
Such as VideoGame.Card City Nights 2, where Polite Student is Slacker's classmate or something.
openWhen Darker and Edgier becomes too much
Basically when a work of fiction tries so hard to be Darker and Edgier it ends up being tasteless. Note that it doesn't even fall into Narm territory where you could at least laugh at how hard it tries to be edgy, it's downright unpleasant to watch.
openI can't get the word "breakbox" out of my head Film
I remember that it was a kids show that was fast paced and the animation was stop motion also the animation and design was like jagged metal and electrical pieces there are 2 segments of the show that I remember. The fort segment was of a cartoon news lady and the point of the segment was too listen to what she was saying while the screen showed little pictures of planes or trains or cars or blimps and then you had to take a test , the other segment was of a fat man In a chair facing the screen and eating garbage while a British woman's voice spoke to him this is all I can remember please help me remember what this show was. It was all on television
openTangible Fog
Is there a trope for fog dense enough that a character can cut it with a knife or something?
I think I saw it in a Scooby-Doo episode and this Whiteboard strip.
openHaven’t I seen you somewhere before?
A character reappears in many different situations in disguise. Another character just knows they’ve seen them somewhere before, but can’t quite place where. Often happens enough times to be a running gag or seem inevitable to the audience.
openTvs in windows
You know that thing where a character learns something by walking past an electronics store with a bunch of tvs in the window, usually tuned to the news?
openWon by an Inch
Are there are any tropes for winning by a ridiculously small margin (I know Decided by One Vote exists, this could be a supertrope)? For example, in Religious Idle, in a doughnut eating contest between you and The Granthi, you both scoff down 38 doughnuts in 8 minutes, but upon closer inspection the judges notice a small chunk of glazed doughnut beneath The Granthi's plate, thus handing you the victory. Thank you.
openObesity trope? Western Animation
Do we have this one? I first thought Art Major Biology but could be wrong.
Alice, Bob and Carol eat a load of chocolate and In-Universe, they get fat over a few weeks. Except, Carol, that is, she's a Big Eater but never seems to get any fatter, no matter how much she eats.
In one episode, Satan tries to get Carol to eat and eat, but is amazed she doesn't get any fatter and he keeps ranting about it.
Is there a trope for where someone should get fat, but In-Universe never seems to?
openSudden Video Game Physics
Do we have a trope where the world is suddenly imbued with Video Game Physics? For example, in The Gamer, the main character is suddenly viewing and interacting his world as though he were in a video game.
open"X, Where Are You?"
A pretty popular way of introducing a main character in the adventure/fantasy genre (though it's also been used in other genres)is having another character, a guardian or good friend, search for them at the start of the movie/game/book/etc.
Said character is either
a) lazing about somewhere hard to find or to see, showing that they're a slacker who doesn't take things too seriously,
b) actively running away from whoever's searching for them to get to a cool place they're not supposed to go to, which marks them as rebellious, mischievous and curious to a sometimes dangerous degree,
c) watching from their hiding spot in amusement as the searcher tries to find them. They might even screw with the searcher a bit, by sneaking up on them from behind and then yelling 'boo!' or something similar or by misdirecting them and sending them on a wild goose chase before finally revealing themselves. Characters who do this are often The Gadfly or just pranksters.

After taking over a base, the occupying force signals all enemy forces to return home in order to slaughter them easily.
open"Cool Girl"
This You Tube video from The Take takes on the "Cool Girl" trope: https://youtu.be/bEKNFX7LWRk
This seems to be meshing together Not Like Other Girls and One of the Boys. Do you think is enough to even suggest in TLP?
A character accused of something proves that the accusation is false, but in a way that makes him just as bad or worse than if the original accusation was true.
For example: During the height of Mc Carthyism, Bob is put on trial as he's known to have done business with Soviet citizens and accused of having communist sympathies.
Bob is outraged at the accusation, because as he explains, he took money and goods from Soviets hoping to flee the war, but instead of bringing them to the U.S. delivered them directly to the Nazis, who then paid him again for his services.
The judges try to get him to shut up, but it's too late, Bob is now proudly describing his business practices in which he uses illegal immigrants and vagabonds as slave labor to reduce employment costs (and turning them into dog food once they collapse), pays off local politicians and police to ensure the law works for him, has potential labor union members murdered, openly discriminates against every person who isn't WASP and male on the grounds of equal rights being another word for communism, and basically demonstrates that he's a walking embodiment of everything wrong with capitalism.
When the audience starts baying for his blood and the judges decide to incriminate him on different charges, he furiously accuses them of being Soviet agents.
