During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

William Harcourt.
I know we're desensitized to certain villain atrocities but dunno, "Planning to Enslave my Own Ethnic Group"...it actually shocked me?

Watch me destroying my countryAlright, talking this over with Lighty on the side: I'm fine with the Snake King as he's verified but this is the one time I'm going to be lenient on keeping a post from a ban evader. We're essentially flagging this to them to show they can get characters up whenever they decide to do an IP shuffle and historically this has proven problematic. If someone's going to break every rule this site has there's no reason to trust their word on a CM—you're word means nothing at that point—and I just want this in writing that I'm never supporting this again.
Happy 'Yes' to Harcourt
I'm fine with King Snake going up now, but only because Lighty and myself are doing extracurricular research...otherwise, if this happens again, I'm gonna suggest we put a pin in the write-up until someone we trust does a whole new reevaluation.
Last tidbit from me regarding the mass Disney/Marvel announcements...the What If? animated series? Lighty, Scrags and myself will be tackling it, so I'll pencil us down, there.
Tonight I dine on monkey soup.I am good with the above recommendations.
Yes to Harcourt, BTW.

- Justice League: The second Grey Man is defined by ambition and causeless sadism that his predecessor lacked. The Grey Man saves a Mad Scientist named Irwin Teasdale from death at the hands of Simon Stagg, and uses Teasdale's knowledge to start spreading a virus through eastern Europe that reduces the infected to zombies in all but name. After reducing the population of entire villages to his shambling slaves, the Grey Man directs themselves to start committing suicide by the dozens to devour their souls and empower himself. Through this method the Grey Man intends to displace the Lords of Order and seize all creation by compelling humanity into global suicide, and the first thing he does with his swelling power is to squish Teasdale under his foot for a failure earlier.

I ask again: Anyone willing to verify AM should be a cut?
Edited by ACW on Dec 11th 2020 at 11:43:05 AM
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsThat story is really short honestly. I think it falls under All the rest where's their no possible way for the main character to fight back
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."So probably a cut then. Good enough for me. And 43 already vouched for cutting the SCP-106 origin story. And Lighty's verified King Snake.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsBased on the EP, to Harcourt.
@Kazuya Let’s not forget that Judge Doom tried to exterminate his own race as well.
Had another thought. Lost it.

NOISE IS CALLING, PICK UP PHONEI don't care about a 1500 word story about AM that lacks the nuance and complexity of the original it's aping. That's my full word on that character.
Baffling?

By the way, just going to ask one more time, has anyone played Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2? It has been out for some time now and long past the discussion date. Sorry for asking so much, but the question has not been answered. If no one has, that's fine, I just wanna know.
Oh, and cut Young Man and SCP!AM.

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord. Can we not ? This feels like one of those discussions that just leads to some uncescesarry bitching.
Anyways I may have a cut for one of my old Creepypasta candidates - The Seedeater from last year - I think the original story is far too short and while there is a character blog by the author to expand upon it, these expansions fall into the same pitfalls of vagueness as Lawrence/The Young Man regarding its exact nature.
The fact the blog also hosts fan submissions coming with their own Seedeater stories and theories, may further muddy things up.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."
It's fine! you still have the EP?
