Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tdown]Kano. I had my concerns that Kano might not be all there when I read the write up, Ravok has now confirmed them.

Btw, I force myself to read Ultimatum...Ultimate Magneot does seem to express regret for damaging the world. Brief, but there you go

Cut Ultimate Magneto then. I can take care of that and the Monster.Star Craft stuff Thursday, while I should finish the Dredd stuff this or next week.

My thing with the Governor, from the character page (first is Gov's entry, 2nd is Bruce's):
  • Villainous Friendship: With Bruce. The only time he actually seems upset about something is when Bruce gets killed.
  • Black Best Friend: He seems to be the Governor's only genuine friend. The Governor is actually broken up over his death.

You know I was wondering has there ever been an effort post on Serrator from Power Rangers Samurai on here? I know Master Xandred has been approved as a CM as he has an entry on the PR CM page, but what about Serrator?

Insofar as Mr. Blonde has been repeatedly discussed and kept, has anyone thought about getting his "torturing a cop" speech added to the quote page? Or can anyone just go ahead and do it?

Here's my write up of Haido if all is good. It's 251 words

Haido, the main villain, was first introduced as a Well-Intentioned Extremist hoping to use the Stone of Gelel to create a utopia. However, his warm smile only hid pure evil. Years ago, after learning about the Stone of Gelel, he attacked Temujin’s village in hopes he could find it. He murdered all of the adults with his men, including Temujin’s parents. He decided to spare the children, not out of regret, but because they would be more useful to him alive. Seeing Temujin’s potential, he made the boy his apprentice and put one piece of the Stone in his chest while convincing the children to place their souls in armoured suits, becoming mindless soldiers he had complete control over. He convinces them that killing and sacrificing their bodies are necessary, and because of this he has entire villages in the Land of Winds killed finding the Stone. In the climax, after reaching the Mines of Gelel, he starts assaulting everyone. Temujin tries to intervene, but Haido’s Slasher Smile allows him to finally recognize his parents’ killer. Haido mocks Temujin for not realizing it sooner and forcibly takes the crystal he gave out of Temujin’s chest, declaring him a pawn no longer useful. Transforming into a more monstrous state, he reveals his lies and proclaims he will use his new power to enslave the world. Using lies to get away with murder, cruelty and claiming power, Haido was a depraved monster whose transformation only highlighted the ugliness he hid from others.

Beginning to question Saint Charloss' inclusion. His actions and personality seem to be the standard fare for Celestial Dragons, and honestly, I feel that non CM's in the series like Buggy, Moriah, and Crocodile have done worse than him.

I took a look at the link ACW gave, it seems that it only discusses Master Xandred so I decided to give Serrator a proper effort post for him, here it goes

Who is Serrator? What has he done? Serrator is a major villain of Power Rangers Samurai and an ancient Nighlok King not even known by Master Xandred. When he is first introduced he is seen wiping out an entire army of Moogers in an effort to gain Master Xandred's interest. He then initially pledges his loyalty to Master Xandred with his goal to flood the Earth with the Sanzu River, but would later reveal to backstab him once Xandred is of no longer any use to him. When he introduces himself to the rangers he and his Moogers effortlessly defeat them with rangers only gaining the upper hand later on thanks to Antonio. He lets them live, but only so that they could be useful to his plans saying "they past the test for now." When he appears again he recruits Dayu and Decker with false promises to their broken items. He also casts a dark spell on the island of Monolua causing the inhabitants there to fight each other. When Xandred's Dragon Octoroo and Dayu waiting for her harmonium he promised to fix, grew suspicious of Serrator, he tries to kill them saying that he no longer needs them nor Xandred and only join's Xandred's group to steal Dayu's Harmonium. Dayu now furious, attacks Serrator only for with to reveal that he was the one who caused all of her and her lover's misery 200 year ago when at the night of Dayu and Deker's wedding, their house caught on fire, in which Dayu called for help to save her husband Deker, who got badly affected by the fire. Serrator appeared as a shadow and makes a deal to save Deker's life. The deal was for Dayu to trade her humanity for an eternity in the Netherworld. Dayu accepted, but Serrator tricked her by cursing both of them to live on as half human/half nighlok with Decker losing his memories of his previous while Dayu still retained her memories causing both of them to live their lives forever in agony and despair. It is even strongly implied that Serrator was the one who started the fire in the first place. He shows no remorse for this and even admitted to Dayu that he enjoyed every minute of it. All of this cumulates to his plan to rule both Earth and the Netherworld by splitting the world in two an act that would kill billions, if not more in the process.

Freudian Excuse? None. The only thing we knew of his history is that he was a Nighlok King.

Redeeming Qualities? Not really. He does give back Decker Uramasa, but that is only because he thought Decker would still serve him and plans to kill him off once he is of know use to him any longer, not realizing that Decker would instead betray Serrator once Serrator out lived his usefulness. It is more of Serrator being a Smug Snake that anything else

Heinousness standard? He might have some competition with Master Xandred, but given that the atrocities he caused and that he has been here longer than Xandred, so god knows what else he has done, I certainly believe he counts.

Final Verdict? I would give him a [tup]. I leave the rest up to you guys.

[up][up] He shot a guy (possibly killing him) for protesting against him taking his fiance, beat a wounded man for not bowing to him, tried to kill Zoro for walking in his way, wanted to buy Camie for the sole reason of watching her run from his piranhas, and he shot Hachi. Resources wise, he's a world noble, so he has some of the highest authority in the manga and connections with the world government. He's bad, but his actions don't seem nearly as heinous as Crocodile who isn't a CM.

@5263 I'd say either the first image or the fourth image works best. Though I kind of question using Atlas as the image for CM's of FMA.

Anywho, here's Block's preliminary write-up (And yes, ACW, I'll also post it into the Drafts tongue)

  • Secret Smile: When Brendan Block, a seemingly kind and polite man, is dumped by Miranda Cotton for his possessive nature, he reveals his true, monstrous, colors. Known to have committed crimes such as assault and money laundering in the past, it is implied Block had something to do with a house fire that claimed the lives of his parents when he was 9 years old. Seducing Miranda's sister, Kerry, Block integrates himself into the Cotton family, slowly manipulating them all into hating Miranda through various means, all the while psychologically tormenting the woman. After growing close with Miranda's teenage, clinically depressed brother, Troy, Block manipulates him into stopping his derpression treatments, while also convincing him Miranda hates him, leading to the boy committing suicide, something Block subtly taunts Miranda about at Troy's funeral. After dumping Kerry on their wedding day to inflict maximum pain, Block hooks up with Miranda's best friend, Laura, and when Laura, realizing Block's vicious nature, tries to contact Miranda for help, Block arranges for her to drown in her bathtub. Later having a new girlfriend, Naomi, who he regularly abuses, Block uses her to try and get Miranda arrested for stalking him, and, when Miranda saves Naomi from him, Block attacks and rapes her, before trying to kill her with his bare hands. What Brendan Block lacked in body count, he more than made up for with sheer wickedness and depravity, nearly driving a woman insane and ruining her entire family for nothing more than revenge on her for dumping him.
