This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

- The Santa Clause:
- The cop had a donut that Charlie proceeded to stuff into his mouth after the elf commando squad tied him up.
- There's also a very quick "blink and you'll miss it" moment earlier on. When the cops are preparing to go on a manhunt for Scott and have the town mapped out, in the corner one of the key sections underlined is that of a donut shop.
- Postal 2:
- You can lure cops away by throwing doughnuts at the floor.
- A rather sickening variation: throwing a doughnut on the floor and then peeing on it will produce a contaminated doughnut which you can pick back up. These get lumped in with the rest of the doughnuts in your inventory and look no different than normal doughnuts. If contaminated doughnuts have a cop happen across the... well, Vomit Indiscretion Shot ensues.
- Also, finding and putting on a cop uniform causes the PostalDude to say "Someone stole my donuts, and now you're all going to pay!".

Oh. I see. Well, I'm sorry about that, thank you for saying so. I won't do that again. I figured the user would just block me if they didn't want to talk to me, but thank you for clarifying.
May I please have my P Ms unsuspended?
@~Macron Notes I'm now aware of what I've done. If ever I believe that another troper's edits are incorrect, I can either Ask The Tropers or open a discussion. There's no need to continually edit someone else's work. I promise I will not get into any more Edit Wars. Please unsuspend me.

Edited by OrrorSANESS on Mar 9th 2023 at 4:28:34 AM
@MacronNotes I understand. I would be willing to prepare some edits for the Get Help with English thread. I'm afraid I'm having trouble finding free time. If there are no strict deadlines involved, I would love to attempt the Zero Context Example policy review. If there are such deadlines, please tell me and I will try my hardest to find a spot to fit them. Over the next few days I will try to find articles that require additions and submit them to the GHWET. Thank you for the opportunity to regain editing privileges.
I would like to re-appeal my suspension. I have been making strides with participating in group projects and working towards a consensus without getting confrontational or angry. I'd like to return to editing and I think that I would be able to rejoin the editing side of the site without any major issue.
If at the moment no one is comfortable reinstating me, could someone please let me know if I'm making progress towards where I need to be what else I can do to work towards that goal? If someone could please get back to me that would be great. Thanks.
It's gonna be fun on the bun! This is for the last people on the last page who haven't been addressed yet

You haven't received any Notifiers for Zero-Context Examples yet, but checking the history of that page, you have indeed added some ([1] [2]). We can clarify the policy with you later if you like.
However, your suspension is actually because you re-added a link to a defunct name (Asskicking Equals Authority). This you add-someone else changes/removes-you put your example back cycle is what we call an Edit War and warrants a suspension.
In this case, you were wrong to put it back because Asskicking Equals Authority was renamed, so this link should not be used. However, in the future, if you disagree with a change to your example, what does Edit War say you should do?
~Amber 72004 appeal
You were suspended because despite multiple thumps telling you to stop posting about eyelids and Eye Cam, you kept doing it to the point that it got disruptive. This goes beyond eyelids and into your general behavior on the wiki now — if we unsuspend you, are you going to concede the next time people tell you to stop doing something?
~Mea 2007 appeal
There's a lot to unpack here:
- You recreated Radar.Invader Zim even though you didn't get agreement to make the page;
- Now, your Notifiers:
- You have a Zero-Context Example problem in your writing (including in said Radar/ page). This extends to your private messages, where you deny that your examples were ZCE when others tried pointing it out (which is why you were also suspended from there).
- You have, on multiple occasions, made stub articles — these are pages that fail to meet the minimum requirements outlined on How to Create a Work's Page.
We will need to go over all these rules before you can be released. Where would you like to start?
Thank you Synchronicity for your answer. I was not aware that the trope had been renamed. That completely slipped my attention and I see that I should have checked in more detail why the other user changed the name of the trope in the first place. I thought it was a misunderstanding and did not realise that the other wording was just not correct anymore. I am sorry and I vow to improve!
@MacronNotes well in that case, i'm sorry if it seemed like i was lashing out at you. Twitter unfortunately has ruined any semblance of nuance with arguments regarding far more than just the LGBTQ, so that's kind of my default reaction nowadays when someone peddles that nonsense.
if you've banned me because you're just doing your job and not actually defending the idiot i replied to, then that's fair. in that case i deserve it and that's my misunderstanding. it's just that the problem wasn't nipped in the bud as soon as the other guy calling Danbooru bigoted because it doesn't 100% fit his worldview, and i got a ban for trying to calm him down, so i'm just left to assume double standards are in play.
edit: while i'm here, i just discovered that i am also banned from replying to this ATT thread specifically, which i was trying to bump. i don't know if this is a bug or indicative of another current ban i'm not aware of (hitting "Reply" on my other ATTs doesn't show the ban popup, which makes me think the former).
another edit: ignore me, the above is a bug

weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018I was suspended from TV Tropes editing because edit wars, egregious grammar, and punctuation errors. Previously, I made an overwrite edit things that already have been corrected such as Maguu Kenki in Genshin Impact Section. I wanted to join editing again but i also wanted to discuss with everyone in the forum.
I wonder when do i get the appeal?
Basically, I'm very sorry for getting suspended for the edits that I caused on Nickelodeon. The new logo already took effect and I had to change it quickly to the image that it was before I put the new logo after noticing (and I'm also sorry for trying to change images on pages without using the Image Pickin function even for upcoming films because I found out that new posters are no longer needed on the pages for upcoming media). I won't try doing those types of edits ever again.
Edited by SpongeBobFan2004 on Mar 9th 2023 at 11:52:22 AM
If i see that an edit war may start, i have to do the following: 1. Use the article's Discussion page. 2. Send a private message to the other troper that i am disagreeing with (best to do one on one). 3. Ask the Tropers so that they can take care of it. 4. Using Trope Talk (trope disagreements) or Wiki Talk (other articles). 5. Repeated vandalising or ignoring the attempts to engage them must be dealt with using the 'Report Page' to send a message to the staff, or post it in Ask The Tropers.
One must remember to be civil in those discussions. Otherwise, one gets the ban.
@MacronNotes: With regards to avenues on how to avoid an Edit War, chief among them would be to not re-add something that's been removed (at least, not without sufficient alterations). For instance, if person A adds/deletes something, person B removes/restores it, and A changes it back, A is edit warring. This is the case even if person A gives an edit reason; copy-pasting a previous edit back in after it's been removed isn't permitted.
That was the mistake I made. I'll be sure to avoid doing it again in the future.
I also should've started a PM with the guy who removed my entry to sort out any disagreements and such. That didn't occur to me when I re-added my edit, so I'll need to do that in the future.
In essence, communication with others on TV Tropes is key to avoiding an Edit War. I neglected to do such, and I will communicate more with other tropers in the future.
Edited by darkdill on Mar 10th 2023 at 4:28:29 AM
"We have other discussion available. Can you give us them?" Give what?
@~/Macron Notes Other ways to prevent editing wars include sending a PM so we can figure out what the problem is, use Trope Talk, or (if they are being aggressive) report the Troper via the Report Page. I will use these methods instead of engaging in edit wars. Please unsuspend me.
Haec in alia lingua.Hi there.
I got suspended for attempting to disprove Pierro's position as rank 1 Harbinger by stating he's the Director.citation There were ample citations, so I didn't bother PM-ing with the editor who said "he's rank 1" first.
BTW, I'm okay with VintageEmma's compromise solution of removing statements of his position until it's explicitly revealed.
Not sure if I can be un-suspended soon, since I rarely edit here.
Thanks in advance.
I've been suspended for causing an Edit War on Works Needing Tropes with Amonimus. I just wanted to keep the Characters/ and Creator/ pages there. I want to appeal my suspension, please.
Edited by justinmcmahan198849 on Mar 10th 2023 at 8:45:27 AM
I've been suspended and I'm not sure why. I assume the reason was sent to my Messages folder, but for whatever reason, I'm not allowed to read that either.
I've been suspended from editing. I think the reason was because I kept moving the periods and commas inside the quotation marks on a couple pages, since that's what I was taught is grammatically correct.
I've recently learned that since the two pages originally put commas and periods outside of quotes, then that's the format that should be used. I won't try and move the periods and commas anymore on those pages.
I've been suspended on the forums, I'm sorry if I post something that I posted, I won't do it again, I would like to be on the forums again.
We've now covered rudeness, unilateral changes, and indentation. You still have several other notifiers, notably 5 for plagiarism and 4 for stubs. While these were almost a year ago, it is best that we discuss them so you don't run afoul of these rules in the future.
To start: you cannot copy-paste from other sources when writing for this website. This is both a legal and ethical issue. If you are caught plagiarizing again, it is unlikely that you will get a third chance to edit the wiki. Is this clear?
~Tropers/cryptic-immortal appeal
Those are correctly indented, but we asked you another thing:
Tell us what rule/s they broke. This would assure us that you actually understand the Example Indentation policy and aren't just trial-and-error-ing like you were last time.
~Be The Fire appeal
You actually are blocked, but due to a bug, they still receive notifications from you. If you don't get a response but the user has been active elsewhere on the site, it is best to just stop messaging them.
Keep in mind that we don't tolerate drama importation. Your suspension is released.
~Tropers/dragonwing7 appeal appeal
Correct. Remember that you should go to those venues before you re-add or re-remove the entry, or you'll be Edit Warring. And keep up with your private messages — you were previously informed via notifier about a change to a trope there that you proceeded to edit war over.
Your suspension is released.
~Tropers/gabrote42 appeal
There's no deadline; you can post there at your own pace.
While you do that, we'll move on to discussing Zero-Context Example. Here is one that you added some time ago to Abled in the Adaptation:
- In Deltarune, Undyne has both eyes.
Imagine you're a non-Deltarune fan who reads this. What's missing from this example? How would you fix it?
~Gate Star X appeal
We'll clarify something first: while your initial reply via the contact form used the wording permanent ban, we are treating this as an indefinite ban for now, which means that you can earn it back. Our last post to you, about three months ago, said that we were unlikely to be persuaded to return your activity anytime soon.
The thing is, three strikes (two editing bans for unilateral activity + a sitewide ban for a mental health incident) over the course of a few months (and not even a year has passed since the first strike, which was in April) is too much, too soon for us to consider returning your editing. This would be the case even without the bounce.
We acknowledge that you are participating in cleanups, and that your calmness has been more or less maintained since you were allowed back in the site. However, semi-recent statements like "I have severe OCD and not having all of the images be from the same set and current pisses me off immensely." do give us pause. We respect that you are taking steps to manage it, but using anger/mental health in discussions of consensus is not the kind of language we want to encourage. While posting in comic cleanups does help here, we'll need to be convinced that the reason you even made it to three strikes — unilateral actions to pages (moves, image changes) — won't recur. Not just the calmness issue.
How else might I do that, you might be asking? We recommend that you post more in other parts of the site, especially those that allow you to make 'editing-adjacent' contributions like the Trope Launch Pad (sure, you can't launch a draft while edit-suspended, but you can offer comments and examples) or non-comic-related threads/cleanups like workshop forums (Trope Repair Shop, Image Pickin) that involve several other users and perhaps varying viewpoints. The latter would also reassure us about your fixation on the comic book medium, since this has appeared to trigger the previous suspensions.
~Tropers/Yukizilla appeal
Yes, there are definitely lessons here in checking on the page you're linking to every once in a while to make sure it hasn't majorly changed recently and making sure you understand the other user's edit reasons.
You were asked another thing though:
~Tropers/Freecom appeal
Well, your grievances about other social media aside, this is a first suspension. Feel free to appeal it in the future if you'd like.
~Tropers/Raoulzerokin appeal
We have not been unclear with you. We have told you multiple times what you need to do to be unsuspended but you haven't done any of it. If you are not interested in doing that, we will not entertain your appeal further.
~Spongebob Fan 2004 appeal
Thing is, before you changed the image on Creator.Nickelodeon, you already had two notifiers trying to get you to post in Image Pickin. It is not that you can't ever change poster images, but you have to bring your ideas there so others can weigh in. Do you understand?
~Bartek From Polonia appeal
All correct. Remember that an Edit War starts on the first re-add/re-remove, so you have to take the example to those venues beforehand.
The other thing we need to go over with you is that you were actually totally in the wrong in your Edit War: You were adding non-Trivia tropes (Frankenslation, Old Shame) to a Trivia subpage. This is in violation of What Goes Where on the Wiki: you should only add Trivia tropes to Trivia pages, YMMV tropes to YMMV pages (unless In-Universe) and so on.
Do you have any questions about this policy?
~Tropers/darkdill appeal
Yes, private messages are one place you can discuss a contested edit and prevent an Edit War. However, there are other options in case the other user doesn't respond to you or you two are unable to agree. Edit War lists a few other places where you can involve other users; can you name two?
~Fernandez 0907 appeal
Other discussion venues besides the discussion/talk page. Your question about how to avoid Edit Warring has not changed since here and here.
~Tropers/Exaskliri appeal
Two things:
- You committed an Edit War by re-adding the entry. On this site, we don't want people just putting their entry back. We want them to agree with each other or with other users before doing so. Could you read Edit War and tell us where you could have had these discussions besides private messaging?
- You need to read through Speculative Troping. We don't trope based on theorizing from released promo materials, but rather what's in the work.
~Tropers/justinmcmahan198849 appeal
Yes, you committed an Edit War. But before going over the specifics of that policy, there's a bigger question that needs to be asked: you were both (a) going against consensus in your re-addition and (b) already invited to discuss properly beforehand, but you didn't. So, what's up with that?
~Desk Jet appeal
Do the usernames ~Tropers/Blargen and ~Tropers/dnukem170 sound familiar to you?
~Athena 5 appeal
We do have a couple of grammar policy pages (here and here), but the primary offense here is letting this editing back and forth go on as long as it has.
Please read Edit War and tell us:
- At one point (which edit) did the edit war here start?
- Instead of the back-and-forth, what should have happened to avoid the edit war?
~Amber 72004 appeal
We're past you apologizing and posting about the eyelids. You were asked:
This question is more than about forum posts. It extends to other areas of the site, like Ask The Tropers or the Trope Launch Pad or private messages. It is a general behavior question that we want to know the answer to.
@MacronNotes
Nope. None at all.
