So over 10 years ago or so, we used to have a newsletter called Trope Report, which covers all of the changes that happened on the wiki weekly. I have been nostalgic for it recently so I thought of it and it seemed to be a fun way to inform tropers about the changes going on around the wiki.
The sandbox for the project can be found at Sandbox.Trope Report Dummy Edition and the sandbox for ideas/plans can be found on Sandbox.Trope Report Ideas. After a new issue is published, revert the Dummy Edition back to a template using the text on Sandbox.Trope Report Template.

Doesn't the changelog cover the same stuff as the changes section? I mean, it would still be useful to have a newsletter style explanation for that stuff, especially since not everybody is going to check that thread.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyThere's so much stuff in Needs Wiki Magic Love, so I'm not sure how y'all would handle highlighting anything in that. But it would be very cool to highlight launches and new pages off to a good start to keep their momentum going!
Covered in Star Wars Cleanup, Deadpool, and Web Video sand. I'm not coarse and rough, but I get everywhere.I think the plan was to make a separate thing for tropes that need more attention- a new trope spotlight as well as a general trope spotlight for obscure tropes. Because as discussed elsewhere, we have an obscurity problem that plagues a lot of otherwise perfectly fine tropes, and that's a little different than a work page needing more work. We need to discuss both.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessGotcha, and I'll have a look at that. Launches doesn't exactly provide information about what the tropes are, and people who don't frequent TLP aren't looking at it. Highlighting new launches would be cool.

Rock'n'roll never dies!Okay, now that I'm actually awake and on desktop...
It sounds like there'd be at least the following:
- New Trope Spotlight
- Obscure Trope Spotlight
- Works Needing Help
For "New Trope Spotlight," there should be a crowner, or if not that then thread voting. It shouldn't just be a matter of writing up a blurb about any new trope, because we'd run into a number of bias problems. If we require a simple majority of the volunteers then it'd at least be more difficult for personal biases to get in the way.
Regarding "Obscure Trope Spotlight," I think there needs to be an "age limit" on how young the trope can be. It's pretty arbitrary, but I imagine the idea to help out older tropes that haven't gotten a lot of traction. So at the youngest, I'd say a year. I don't think this would need to be voted on, though. That would probably be too much of an obstacle when dealing with old, obscure tropes (especially if they've been abandoned by their launchers from way back when).
Is there someone "officially" taking up the mantle of editor in chief? Should we have a separate thread for when things actually start?
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyStereotypical South Asian English would be a recent one to highlight.
For Obscure Trope Spotlight, it would have to at least be a year old.
New Trope Spotlight would likely be at least a week or two old, so as not to repeat the Newest Trope feature on the front page.

Rock'n'roll never dies!Bumping for discussion, should we start a signup?
Rock'n'roll never dies! This sounds pretty fun and interesting! I would be okay with writing for it.
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised. It seems like there are a lot of people willing to pitch in, so it would be helpful if a staff member chimed in to see how we can really get his effort going. Do we just post in Newsletter/? How would this be known to the greater site — via bulletin?
I fully agree with this comment on the Needs Wiki Magic Love sections, including the need for thread consensus. I also don't mind being 'editor-in-chief', or at least a frequent contributor. How do these categories sound?
- New Trope Spotlight
- Obscure Trope Spotlight
- Works Needing Help
- TRS Changelog
- Forumwatch
- Work Spotlight (?)
- Project Spotlight (?) - thinking this could be used to highlight cleanups, etc. that need more hands

I think that those catagories sound good.
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.Again, this Trope Report would be a good place to announce policy changes and the like. I'm up for starting a signup sandbox later today.
Rock'n'roll never dies!Haven't made it yet.
Rock'n'roll never dies!I've posted about moving this effort forward in the mod thread but have gotten no response yet.
I think Trope Report could potentially work if every new issue was advertised through a headline for...a week, let's say (provided that we go for a monthly release schedule).
If you want to go ahead, we would need to delegate some responsibilities in order to make it work:
- Chief Trope Report Officer: Sets deadlines, manages the rest of the team, offers general direction, proofreads before publication.
- Editors: Contributors would probably be better if they were given specific areas to watch out for. Forumwatch for someone who hangs around most forums, someone else with a category that advertises tropes that need work completed in TRS, new decisions, blablablah.
- Failure to meet a deadline 3 times in a row would result in replacing an editor for at least some time.
This is late and dunno if there is enough interest in this project but wouldn’t mind being an editor for this

Macron's notesMeh I made it. Sandbox.Trope Report, signup time yall.
Some things need fine tuning (the age limits for trope spotlights are a suggestion from earlier) but once we get a good group of participants going we can discuss the fine points (possibly in a new thread).
Tagging people who expressed interest: ~MacronNotes ~War Jay 77 ~Tropers/ccorb ~Tropers/naturalironist ~Water Blap ~Tropers/crazysamaritan ~Divine Flame 100 ~MadameButterflyKnife bring your friends sorry if I missed anyone it's like 2am and I'm off to bed after this
Sorry I didn't make the sandbox. I'm a student.
Still, I'd be up for doing a column.

Rock'n'roll never dies!Same here.
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.Pinging ~naturalironist and ~crazysamaritan, Synchronicity screwed the pooch on the markup.
If anybody is interested in contributing to Trope Report, sign up in the sandbox.
Rock'n'roll never dies!It appears I have been summoned. What's going on again, because I forgot.
Re: Needs Wiki Magic Love
The newsletter category used to be just for tropes, but it sounds like you're talking about expanding it.
