Yeah, I agree with that. Especially as there's now a clean-up thread that can handle anything that needs discussion. If you can't delete anything, you can't clean it up.

If any warning needs to be on the page then it just needs to be something simple like "If any edits need to be queried or discussed, please visit the Headscratchers clean-up thread". But I'm not a huge fan of notes on pages unless there really is a need for them to be there, so I don't mind if the decision is made to remove the note completely.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

That note probably isn’t necessary.

SpongeBob SquarePants has a couple of odd ones. Some examples:

Question based on something the writer misremembered:
  • How has Jack M. Crazyfish end up in jail.
    • You mean "not end up in jail"? If so, then it's because he's committed no crimes in spite of his supposed frightening reputation.
      • Troper thought he was in Krusty Slammer.

Arguing and complaining, plus this is basically "why did this character act in a way that's in-character?"

  • SpongeBob shouldn’t cry when Squidward reads his personal diary at the end of “Little Yellow Book”. He should handle it like a man.
    • Spongebob is a notorious crybaby. That has been a core element of his character from the beginning. What's the problem here?
      • He should deal with Squidward’s humiliation. He’s been a pain in Squidward’s neck.
      • Well obviously he didn't.
      • And no one likes having their secrets exposed. But you really can’t hide them for long.

Nitpicking:

  • The lights of the paddy wagon should be on at the end of “Ditchin”. Same with the cop car in “Boating Buddies”.

Questions answered in story or scenes that get misunderstood:

  • SpongeBob claims that "Squidward's always been there for us when it was convenient for him!" Really? Like when? I know there was "Christmas Who" but only Squidward and Santa knew that Squidward did that good deed.
    • I think after getting different answers from Evelyn and Larry, SpongeBob decided to change his approach by having everyone pretend that Squidward was the fireman/guy in the ambulance/someone of importance in their lives so they can find the motivation to help him. This is exactly it. The joke is that Squidward hasn't actually helped anyone and SpongeBob needs them to imagine he was as important to them as genuinely helpful figures they've encountered.

  • If Squidward constantly thought the Employee of the Month award is a scam, then why did he later on compete with Spongebob for the award?
    • Probably due to his insecurities and feeling inferior to SpongeBob who has won it several times. This is explained in the episode; when SpongeBob starts going to insane lengths to sabotage Squidward out of paranoia that he'll win it, Squidward argues that he could easily win it if he actually wanted to. This starts their competition in the episode.

  • In "The Lost Mattress", the conflict starts because Squidward ignorantly threw away Mr. Krabs' old mattress. It was obviously for a good cause since that mattress was shown to be giving him back pain and he was given a replacement, but what really raises the question is why didn't Squidward simply take the money out of the mattress and put it in Krabs' nightstand drawer or whatever, before proceeding to throw it away? Is Squidward really as dumb as SpongeBob or even Patrick?
    • Go back and watch the episode. Squidward didn't know there was money stuffed into the mattress until Krabs told him that's where he kept it.

  • One can understand where most of the misconstrued ideas about Texas were coming from in the party SpongeBob arranged for Sandy, but for "square-dancing", it seemed like all he had was Flats the Flounder holding a large square thing. How exactly does the "dancing" part fit into that?
    • It's a wordplay moment. He means dancing while holding a square.
    • And as for why maybe he didn't know what square dancing was. It's a Visual Pun for square dancing, and the joke is that it's among other similarly misunderstood Texan things, like "ten-gallon hats" being water jugs on your head or pecan pie and barbeque becoming "peas-in-a-can pie" and "barbed Qs".

  • In "Rock Bottom", SpongeBob doesn't have change for the bus, but then later when he gets hungry, he has enough money for a Kelp Nougat Crunch snack in the vending machine.
    • It was probably an 'exact change' sort of thing.
    • Bus fare costs a lot in Rock Bottom?
    • He had enough money the whole time, it's just that he was trying so hard to find it that he kept smacking the bus driver around with his balloon and was told to sit down already, and later kicked off with no regrets. This is the point of the scene, he's looking for his bus fare but the driver gets so frustrated with being hit with SpongeBob's balloon as he searched that he just tells him to take a seat.

  • If SpongeBob enjoyed being able to fly so much, why didn't he just, I don't know, inflate another pair of pants?
    • SpongeBob got fed up with the citizens asking him to do non-flying-related tasks for them, so he didn't bother.
    • Because in the end, the jellyfish was helping him take to the air once more. He doesn't need inflated pants anymore when he has jellyfish friends.

Very needless entry:

Yeah, I feel like most of those can probably go. The ones that are just clear misunderstandings of the episodes are asking questions based on falsehoods, so they feel odd to include. The others just feel like IJBM artifacts. I'm not sure on the last one since it's clearly a joke.

I think the joke one can go. It muddles the purpose of the page if people ask pure joke questions. Reminds me of this ProZD video though.

I found Headscratchers.Radiohead, which has three meta-questions that all ask why people feel a certain way about certain songs/albums rather than actual questions related to the band's works. I feel like that should be cut.

Perhaps Headscratchers.Horrible Histories can be cut too? There are currently two headscratchers: one asks why the song "Henry VII: The Original Tu-Tu-Tudor" calls Henry VI "the most obscure" (IMO, the song is really saying he's Overshadowed by Awesome, but maybe that's irrelevant here), with the writer saying he's more of a "distant second to his son" (also noticing some first-person writing), while the other disputes "Who's Bad/The Evil Emperors Song" declaring Nero the worst Roman emperor (out of him, Caligula, Commodius, and Elagabalus) and argues Caligula is actually the worst emperor. Maybe these are also too meta?

That sounds cuttable to me.

Headscratchers. The House Of Night — it's extremely bashy, one question admits the person only read chapter 1 of book 1, and in general it smacks of IJBM. I can't defend these books, but this page is absurd.

There's this entry on the Jojo part 4 page that takes a dig at the writer. There's also a kind of rude response to an answer as well, bolded in the folder.

     Diamond is Unbreakable
  • Watching the Part 4 anime, it becomes kinda frustrating to see how many times the team could have just caught him. As mentioned above, Josuke could have summoned his suit with the button he left behind. Josuke could have healed Kawajiri's face in Aya's parlor and found who Kira replaced. Joseph could have just used Hermit Purple to find Kira's new face (and don't say he's too senile, him using Hermit Purple to find a murderer is the entire reason Jotaro is in Morioh in the first place). Josuke could have healed Kira's clipped fingernails and used them to find him. Araki makes mistakes, sure, but yikes.
    • Worth noting, too, that Joseph isn't too senile to save Rohan from Ken, and is intuitive enough to do so without Rohan so much as saying a word.
    • Kira has new fingernails, so is not possible using the old.
    • You know what, there's another way. When Aya changed Kira's face, why didn't she use the same power she used on Yukako to make his face revert or hideous or something?
    • Because she died?
      • She didn’t die instantly; she was giving a long-winded monologue when she could’ve just uglied his face and told them to track down the guy who looks like he got hit with an ugly stick
      • Do you even remember what you were watching? Aya was already on death's door. Using her Stand's power requires a great deal of energy.
    • The most troubling part is that Josuke attempted to use Kira's hand by healing it and thus make it into a tracking device to find Kira... except it is shown numerous times that Josuke not only restores anything to original form, but he has absurd precise control of how far his ability will go, if he punches down a concrete road, he can either fix it back into a road, or make the pieces be reduced to the tar used to make the concrete, to top it off, when Okuyasu was dragged into the energy line by Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Josuke pulled him back by healing the arm he had lost in the fight against RHCP, instead of using Kira's hand as a tracking device... he could have simply pulled Kira back by healing the hand and forcing Kira towards the hand rather than sending the hand to Kira, even if Kira tried to counter act this by cutting off his whole arm, Josuke could have simply repeated the process by healing the arm, there is only so much Kira could cut off before starting to target vital parts of his body, and even if they found risky to be in physical contact with Kira due to his bombs, Jotaro was extremelly close to Josuke at the time, he could have simply used Star Platinum: The World to kill Kira before Kira could act, just like they did in the finale, except if Josuke had just done the smart thing, Doctor Aya and Hayato's father would have lived.
      • The reason why Kira cut his hand off in the first place was to use Sheer Heart Attack as a distraction while he ran away. If Josuke heals Kira back to him, it's possible that Sheer Heart Attack would still be flying around (noticeably, Sheer Heart Attack returns to Kira's hand when Josuke heals it back onto Kira, not necessarily the other way around), which Josuke didn't want to risk. Besides, as far as the group new, Kira had nowhere to go, and they were caught off guard when he ran for Aya's shop.
      • Maybe when Okuyasu was transformed by Chilly Pepper into electricity Josuke healed the hand because the one who was altered was Okuyasu rather than his arm.

Should I just delete the bolded parts (or try to rework the first sentence to make sense without the bold part)?

I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.

Noticing quite a bit of First-Person Writing in Pandemic, plus some comments that aren't really relevant, like:

I thought you said Mosquito Lava. I don't know if that's awesome or horrifying
and
Aw, man. I'm fairly new to the game, and I was thinking if I just kept restarting until it started in Madagascar it wouold make the problem go away. Rats.
On top of this, it seems there's also a misplaced WMG, which the author admits isn't really a headscratcher.
Not actually headscratchers, but really WMG, but I'm gonna toss this out here: The board game Pandemic? The players in that game are working against the players of the flash game. Which is why you can't really manage killing everyone very frequently.

The Simpsons has had a lot added by a presumably young user, which are either not understanding jokes/plot points or "why didn't this character act differently?" An example:

  • Milhouse was doing the right thing to snitch on Bart. There is 0 reasons for Lovejoy to punish him too.
There's no real headscratcher here, the joke is a Guilt by Association Gag.

Yeah, these got added pretty recently. There's also a few that have no real in-universe explanation and are just "I want this character to have acted differently" wish fulfillment. He's been adding them to other pages, mostly for kids shows, too. Take a look at this from Wild Kratts:

  • Will the Kratts ever know that Koala Balloon was from Zach?
That's really something only the show writers can answer.

The Headscratchers.Blue Drop page has many issues, but two tangents stand out in particular.

    Folderized due to length
  • The plot twist mentioned in the Mars Needs Women trope entry, is it actually true? Is it really the case that the Arume invaded to get their hands on male genetic material, then got cold feet and decided that extinction was preferable, provided they could have the womenfolk instead? I mean, what? Is there truly an Idiot Ball that big, that it requires an entire race to hold it?
    • Yyyup. Read Tenshi no Bokura for details, bearing in mind that you'll probably have nightmares for weeks afterwards. Long story short, most of the grunt-levels don't even know about the real purpose, and there's been a conspiracy among some of the more hedonist Idiot Ball-bearing high brass to keep it that way, but yeah.
      • So...the Arume are a viable, spacefaring culture whose leadership has horny fratboy-stereotype levels of intelligence, self-control and responsibility. And this has been going on for how long?
      • Several, possibly as much as a dozen, cloned-and-genetically-engineered generations. Maybe one of the imperfections that makes getting males back a neccesity is mental degeneration over the course of generations?
      • The only cloning happing is the gostas, the "normal" method of arume reproduction is explained here
      • Doesn't change the fact that its an artificial process that destabilizes their society and is causing genetic degradation and a slow extinction, it just means they're more creative about it. They're still engaging in a form of natural sexual reproduction, but I'd bet good money that the problem is with degradation of the sperm substitute's DNA or DNA analog- probably a miniscule and barely noticeable thing per generation, but compounded over several generations ...
      • That's utter lunacy. I get that they're incapable of feeling attraction to men, but have they not heard of artificial insemination? Or even just recombination? I mean, hell, we have that technology now. Do they have a race-wide squick reaction to Y-chromosomes?
      • Apparently. Either that or they just never thought of it, or, more probably, the authors never thought of it.
      • Oh. I hate it when the answer in Headscratchers pages is rank idiocy. It's like in Good Omens, when Azrael talks about how the demonic organisations contain the ineffable seeds of their own downfall, and Crowley responds that for his money, it's just plain old incompetence by everyone involved.
      • Yup. Thats Hanlon's Razor for ya.
      • Good God. This may be my college major talking here, but all I can see now is a version of the war in Iraq where the U.S. occupies the Middle East to control the oil supplies and maintain their industrial economy, only to then decide that oil is gooey and flammable and icky, and they'd really rather just take all of the delicious, delicious falafel. So, they expend enormous military strength and carry out atrocities against the civilian population to maintain control, dominating and warping the local culture beyond repair, forcing the locals to cultivate chickpeas for all their petty lives are worth, and in the end, when their infrastructure collapses and their military gets eaten alive without their armour and air support, we're left with neoconservatives sitting in the ruins of downtown Washington, muttering about how it was totally worth it, as they molest bags of fava beans.
    • If it's a greater diversity in genetic material the Arume are after, then earth's females would do just as well as the males, considering the Arume have technology to merge the genes of female gametes to produce offspring. In that light, their attraction to earth females would serve them just as well, so it's odd they would have to bother with males.
      • Its possible that whatever method they use to combine female gametes isn't viable in the really long term, maybe dangerous mutation rate or slowly increasing risk of birth defects or something.
  • Went and read Tenshi no Bokura. Do the Arume have any particular reason for being such colossal assholes, bordering on Always Chaotic Evil? Seriously. Their grand plan is to go extinct due to their collapsing gene pool, but to enjoy human women first, destroy human civilisation along the way, and possibly take humanity with them by wiping out men? What? Did the author set out to write about a race composed almost entirely of Psycho Lesbians? Is Blue Drop actually an attack on lesbianism in the media?
    • Actually, and this is the same guy who posted just previously and alittle bit above as well, I've figured out what it is that just bugs me about the series. For a series set firmly on the yuri side of things, it is deeply, unpleasantly homophobic. I mean, really, let's take a long, honest look at the implications and outright textual statements in play: Adult lesbians are sexual predators who will throw intelligence and responsible moral conduct to the winds if there's the possibility of having sex with young girls, which leads to: Lesbians in a position of power will abuse that power for the sake of corrupting young girls into being soft, passive sex objects. Lesbian teachers are in it solely so they can corrupt and seduce their students. The lesbian agenda is to sideline men and take away the women. Women who aren't sexual predators cannot effectively resist, and in any case, women cannot rape women, because a properly passive young woman will eventually accept and enjoy unwanted sexual contact, until it ruins men for her. Therefore, homosexuality is a learned behavious akin to The Virus, and should be resisted.

The first seems to be basically "Can the plot really be this stupid?" The second starts out by asking if there's a reason for the aliens to be such huge jerks, but quickly morphs into "Does the author actually hate lesbians?"

Are either of these remotely salvageable??

[up] The first one at least has some useful discussion of the premise, even if the inevitable conclusion is that it makes no sense. Might be worth abridging and moderating. The second has a valid question, but all the answers are pure speculation.
