The Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment exists to prevent tropers from making agenda-based edits or bringing up irrelevant controversial issues, but it's not always obvious if something breaks the rule or not. This thread serves the purposes of:
- Getting consensus on cutting overly controversial edits.
- Rewriting biased examples to be more neutral.
- Pre-emptively clarifying if a possible example actually violates the rule, or if it's okay to add.
- Making sure that the rule isn't just being used as an excuse to write a Zero-Context Example ("Some people think that X is Y, and that's all we have to say about it.")
See also the thread "Trump and ROCEJ" for the specific topic of tropers sneaking their political views (not just views regarding Donald Trump, despite the title) onto the wiki.
See Pages Attracting Edits That Promote Bigotry for pages that attract ROCEJ violations that are bigoted in nature.

Considering Jackie Chan's controversial political opinions, I feel like perhaps it could be a bad idea to call him "made of awesome" in the first sentence of his page. I mean, it already feels like excessive gushing to me even without the political crap, but that doesn't help.
Yeah, that's way too gushy (especially when talking about an actual person) regardless.
that whole page needs a cleanup. it tropes a real person, and the work list includes even more gushing.
regarding the piracy thing wingedcatgirl brought up last page, i checked the user's edit history and found that the same link has been on Digital Piracy Is Evil since 2019 in one form or another; latest edit to it was in 2020. should it be cut there too? i would think so.
Eh, in that context it seems like a perfectly fine example.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. For the Jackie Chan page, would it still be too gushy to change it to "is one of the biggest martial arts stars in the world"?
what i don't like is that the person who posted it refers to "the author" in third person as if they didn't write it, which seems a little disingenuous. maybe im overreacting, though.
Nah, that's how we're supposed to trope our own work; the same way anyone who didn't write it would have.
In principle, anyway. In practice, inevitable bias, Auto-Erotic Troping, etc
but we wouldn't find that example objectionable if it had been written by a third party (in particular, unlike the Idiot Programming edit, it doesn't claim the author is correct to say what he says, only that he says it) so we're not inclined to fuss.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.fair enough, objection withdrawn.
The "made of awesome" stuff on Jackie Chan should be removed on the basis of gushing. The political stuff being discussed on the page feels superfluous to his work (if only because I think we've cut similar stuff on other creator pages?); the stuff about him playing a Chinese stereotype and calling him a "sellout" also might be ROCEJ-risky but it is discussing a trend in his roles.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. As for the previous posts:
First, I'm not impressed with wingedcatgirl's attempt to Strawman me as "taking it upon [myself] to defend DRM", and this sounds suspiciously like a False Dilemma. Making an edit that largely consists of removing provably wrong assertions does not automatically equate to defending DRM. In fact, I even stated in my edit that I hate DRM. Why would I want to defend something that I hate?
My edit really consisted of 6 or 7 different parts that can easily be split into separate edits, but I decided to consolidate them all into 1. The comments in this thread only engaged 2 of them. Why were the other parts reverted as well?
As for the 2 parts that were talked about:
- Has themayorofsimpleton heard of the expression, "Never judge a book by it's cover"? He blatantly dismissed that edit based entirely on looking at the text of the URL and not looking at the contents of it. The accuracy of the info in that article is not decided by whether or not it was archived by myself, or whether GitLab Pages was used as the host for the archive. In fact, why mention it's archival on GitLab Pages in the first place? There Is No Such Thing as Notability. Furthermore, the references could very easily have been replaced with someone else's archive of TweakGuides (such as PC Gaming Wiki's), which would not change the point I wrote in any way. I just used my archive because it is a higher quality than the others I'm aware of.
- lee4hmz pointed out that the note I added about validating claims about Denuvo is mini-modding. Fair enough, but why is nuking my entire edit the solution to this? Why not edit my change to remove only the mini-modding aspects of it?
Kind regards

The edit you made was unilateral, which means that it needs to have some consensus before being added.
i already recanted and i really don't have the energy to argue about it. i apologize for my mistaken assumptions. can we leave it at that?
I did not realize that that had been an archival. I will concede on that point, and I do apologize for my own mistaken assumption.
EDIT: Removed a portion of my response as it unintentionally came off as overly-demanding.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Mild spoilers for The Boys (2019) series finale which aired last night, but this was just added to the recap page under Does This Remind You of Anything?:
- Cassandra monetizing her disastrous marriage to The Deep with book deals and talk show appearances, painting him as a domestic abuser when there was actually mutual abuse going on (with the whole forcing the Deep to eat his octopus friend and clearly enjoying it), is pretty reminiscent of Amber Heard's and Johnny Depp's marriage drama, which was publicly shared in court just a couple months before the episode aired.
Does this...need to be on the page? Like the contentiousness of Heard v Depp aside (the above entry is already edited to be less pro-Depp from the initial version), the season finished shooting in early fall, and while I guess they could have reedited the finale to reflect it, two months is a pretty sharp turnaround.

I think it's more of just a commentary on abusive relationships and cultural attitudes and assumptions about abuse, and the Depp/Heard hearings just happened to be very well (or poorly) timed.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe Depp/Heard controversy actually dates back to 2020, so it's not impossible, but I haven't seen The Boys so I can't comment on how similar it is.
Either way, I'm not sure if it's actually an example of DTRYOA because it's still about abuse — is it the celebrity part that's allegorical?

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. There's this entry in the Western Animation folder of Prison Rape.
- Despite its setting and Cast Full of Gay, Superjail! doesn't invoke this as often as you'd think it would. In fact, two gay inmates are among the few recurring prisoners — and their sex is nothing if not consensual. However, this is an off-screen mention by one of them asking, "how do you not watch a shower rape?"
Not a big fan of what this highlighted bit is implying...
I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.oh... dear god...
She/her. Profile pic is by Richard Michael Gomez @StarmansArt. Please watch Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock. https://youtu.be/Vm92JNgPbqkI... Yeah, nuke it.
If it needs to even be clarified, prison rape has nothing to do with sexuality and everything to do with power and control... like a lot of rapes, tbh.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNeither am I. It can go.

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallShould I just chop the whole entry since it doesn't even have an actual instance of this trope? Or maybe trim it down to this?

I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.Maybe avoid using the word "invoke" when not referring to an Invoked Trope.

I reverted their edits on the page.
