I could get behind turning The Show of the Game from a redirect to the page's real title.
Video Game Adaptations sounds like it's about adapting other works into video games.
I agree.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I agree, too.

I don't really think the current title is a problem. It's called "The Anime of the Game" since it's most common in Japan (through Western cartoons based on video games were rather common in the 80s and 90s), which explains why most of the wicks are anime and visual novels, but Tropes Are Flexible.

Keet cleanupThat sounds great in theory, but in practice nobody wants to call a non-anime show "The Anime of the Game".
Animated Adaptation also already exists. This feels like another one of those cases were Japanophiles just want an unnecessarily Japan-specific trope.
Rename it to something region agnostic.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? It's mostly a sub-trope of Animated Adaptation, but also includes live-action TV shows based on video games (there are so few of those we don't need a separate trope).
Keet cleanupfor changing the title to Video Game Adaptations.
If we were to rename it to Video Game Adaptations, should it be merged with Video Game Movies?
Keet cleanup^ Sure, one index page for this kind of adaptation suffices.
I think the main problem is that this is a trope put on derivative works about the previous work.
I don't think we need to trope "the original work was from the [medium]", and would prefer to merge/cut all such pages into "this work is an adaptation in [medium]".
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think indexing adaptations of video games could have a purpose, but many examples on The Anime of the Game have context, while Video Game Movies is purely an index.
Even now, the lines between the two are blurred. Do OVAs count as movies, particularly if they're a single episode? Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is on both pages.

Keet cleanupYeah, while I was doing the TLP for Video Game Stories, I was actually considering making an index titled Video Game Adaptations (with Video Game Movies being a sub-index). But then I found The Anime of the Game and brought it here, bringing us full circle. However, my main concern right now is still how the trope's title doesn't match the content.

Yet I don't see Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, also a Japanese CGI-animated movie, on The Anime of the Game (nor do I think it should be there), but it is on Video Game Movies. Is that because it has a more realistic style than Advent Children?
Edited by rjd1922 on Dec 1st 2018 at 3:03:01 AM
Keet cleanupThe Spirits Within isn't an adaptation.
Nor is Advent Children; it's a Sequel in Another Medium.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.By that logic, Overtook the Manga should be renamed too since it has examples where the source material isn't manga, even though the majority of examples are.
I was talking to people who wanted to rename the page, not about your last post.

Keet cleanupIf the name Overtook the Manga is creating problems for cross-wicking non-manga examples, then maybe that trope should be renamed too.
^ I would support the rename and perhaps a policy to avoid such things in future.
I think the reason this page exists is that Visual Novel-> Anime adaptations are very common, almost as common as Manga -> Anime, and due to the Animesque style and tendency to use some similar tropes in visual novels, they can be adapted with relatively little change. Whereas video game movies (or adaptations from other game genres) are more likely to fall into Video Game Movies Suck.
I'm not sure if this was the case when this was opened, but The Show of the Game now exits as a redirect.

"It's just a show; I should really just relax"VN to Anime and JRPG to Anime conversions are made in the same abridging the full game episode to episode style that always ends up lacking in the same departments.
Clock is set.

The name of this trope makes it sound like it's only for anime, but it covers other genres like Western Animation, Live-Action TV, etc. This is causing problems with how it's used on This Very Wiki; with related links in 50 Anime pages, 26 Visual Novel pages, compared to 5 links to Western Animation pages, and 1 link to a Series page.
I think the trope should be renamed to Video Game Adaptations, though on the discussion page it's also suggested The Show of the Game or The Series Of The Game.
