Welcome to the Kayden - Light and Dark Interest Check/Sign-Up Thread

So, er, hi. First time as a GM here, this is bound to go well. At least I'm not alone, as Cwest 5538 will be co-GM, which I am incredibly grateful for. Give him a quick round of applause, everybody.

*Half a second passes*

Alright, that's enough. Anyway, once again welcome to Kayden - Light and Dark, a roleplay set primarily on a planet approximately 19.56 light-years from Earth. The idea is that the planet Kayden is tidal-locked, only one side faces the star it orbits, and a large, ominous wall stretching around the equator separates the upper class Houses of the Light Side from the scavengers and exiled criminals of the Dark Side/Wildlands.

The focus of the RP for the players in the Light Side will be set mainly in the military academy in Aentolin - that is, the capital city that is the home of many of the main Houses. Players will have to train in Aentolin Academy while the elder members of their Houses battle in political wars involving the Dark Side situation. When they graduate, they will become part of the Kaydenite military, either going out on missions into the Wildlands or even having certain input on Council meetings if they are of General rank.

Those who choose to play in the Dark Side will be set mainly in the charred forests and deserts of the Wildlands, along with any scavenger or criminal factions. Players in the Dark Side should be wary of the scavenger and bandit factions, such as the Wave Breakers, Spine Snappers and the Blood Rose - while also avoiding the influence of Rok'n, the malevolent, powerful, and insane ex-general whose territory is ever expanding.

As the RP progresses, a war shall brew between the two Sides. Who will win?

Eh, we'll find out, won't we?

Rules

  • All general forum rules along with the roleplaying rules apply, first and foremost.

  • All Kaydenites will be accepted under these following guidelines:

    • Their power level, such as general Hardlight skill and constructs along with physical traits should not go above Super Weight 3. You may create and design your own constructs based on different types of weaponry, such as swords, axes, chains, etcetera, however keep in mind that an Academy level Kaydenite will have difficulty constructing more complicated weapons. As they grow in skill, you may allow them to create more extravagant and complex weaponry.
    • No characters I consider to be Suelike will be accepted. You may include traits of yourself in your Kaydenite if you wish, but don't use it as an excuse to ignore any personality or physical flaws. Your actions as a Kaydenite will have consequences, either good or bad.
    • No religious, stereotypical or otherwise offensive characters. As a side note, while I do like the occasional joke or funny character, too much comedy can completely destroy the tone. Try and keep your comedy in general balanced in proportion to the threat.
    • If you create an original House, you have the right to any behaviour exhibited by it. Please do not focus on abuse, rape, or any other harsh taboo within said original House. You may hint at a dark past, but I will not tolerate any graphic descriptions or imagery.
    • Your character can be either from a branch family of the eight main Houses, or an original House. You are allowed to create a maximum of two original Houses, either for purposes of rivalry or for a love interest. Keep in mind that plenty of opportunities for both should spring up anyway, but if you want to create a small plotline involving specific Kaydenites of your own creation, you may.
    • Finally, Council meetings will be mostly player controlled. You will have to create a representative (or multiple) for your House, either the father of your Academy Kaydenite or some other member or relative. If you want to focus on the Academy and want no part in the Council discussions, let me know and I will either create a representative or take one that you had previously used with your permission.

The Kaydenites

The Kaydenites are the dominant species of the planet, and are outwardly difficult to distinguish from humans - bipedal, five digits on each limb, mostly symmetrical face, etc. The only main difference is their unnerving, softly glowing irises, along with their pinprick sized pupils. Internally, the differences are even more drastic. Every organ is replaced with an unrecognisable variant, although primarily they are in the same place as their Earth counterparts. The most interesting organs are located in the abdomen; where the stomach and intestines of a human would be. Usually there are four sets, however there are occasional mutations that can bring this number up to six or even eight. However, the few to ever have this many usually experience intense pain in the abdominal area if not prescribed with regular medication.

The organs have the ability to produce a substance akin to plasma, nicknamed "Hardlight" by the Kaydenites. The biological process of this ability is kept under wraps by the species, presumably to not let any other life forms reproduce it. With training, the Kaydenites can learn to direct and channel this substance through different parts of their body, releasing it in the form of glowing white bursts, or even creating constructs of weaponry and small objects. As long as there is a constant supply of Hardlight being channelled into the construct, it will keep its shape. If the channeller cuts off the supply, the construct will simply dispel in the air.

Initially, Hardlight construction will take an immense amount of concentration and effort. You can visibly tell how strained a Kaydenite is by the intensity of the glow in their eyes and veins. But, with repeated use, a Kaydenite's Hardlight organs will eventually adapt to the strain, allowing them to create constructs quicker and more efficiently.

Attempts to adapt Hardlight into an artificial form have been unsuccessful, causing them to rely on more conventional methods of technology.

As a side note, they have longer lifespans, the usual expectancy being 1,000 Earth years. 250 is considered the acceptable age to join the military academy.

The Planet - Light Side

Kayden itself is very Earth-like - at least in terms of flora and fauna. Due to the constant nourishment from its star, along with the vast amount of water, the plantlife is occupying most of the planet in varying ways such as rainforests, swamps and marshes.

The cities are few and far between, but they are vast in both height and area. Instead of opposing the natural resources in favour of artificial or polluting substances, the cities embrace the plantlife in their architecture, relying primarily on solar power and hydroelectricity. As a result, it is not unusual to see cascading waterfalls from large skyscrapers spilling through enormous water wheels onto the smaller rooftops below.

Local law enforcement is in the form of unmanned flying drones, outfitted with projectile based-weaponry, such as shells, slugs and rockets. They are also outfitted with electroshock prods for non-lethal use.

Transportation is in the form of solar hover-vehicles, designs of which can be sleek speedsters to cumbersome cargo ships.

The Planet - Dark Side

Contrasting the extraordinary beauty of the Light Side, the Dark Side is charred, dark, and active. The "architecture" (if you can even call it that) of the small cities and settlements are more like piles of hastily glued together junk, stacked up every which way they could fit it in. Several factions rule the lands, the largest bandit faction being the Wave Breakers, along with the smaller factions Blood Rose and the Spine Snappers, and the scavenger factions, including the Drakeguard, Rustjumpers and Darkriders.

Players will be joining together in a vague attempt to survive in the harsh wastelands, either becoming a part of these factions or going it alone.

Then, there is Rok'n. The sickly, sadistic general driven insane by the death of his wife. The one, who even in constant agony, still causes even the most powerful factions to tremble in fear due to his sheer ruthlessness and powerful influence. He is the creator of the Hardlight Copy technique, the secrets of which he took with him into banishment. Using this technique, he has created two right-hand men, Copy 1 is an intelligent, polite Copy who acts as a form of physical self-control, with extraordinary speed and strength, and Copy 2 is a bestial (yet still intelligent) predator whom the factions have grown to dread.

Aentolin Academy

The primary military academy, this is where young Kaydenites are expected to train in Hardlight manipulation and combat. It is focused on mainly physical activity and sparring, although there are some necessary classes involving Kaydenite biology to take.

No, not those types of necessary classes. Classes that involve how to channel Hardlight.

The Academy itself has 15 separate sparring/training rooms, a "necessarily large" medical bay, a mess hall, kitchens, restrooms, and a lounge. There is also a large courtyard with a view of the city.

The Houses

The Houses are the collective name for the powerful families across the planet, who have (mostly) joined together to deal with the Dark Side situation. There are hundreds of families, however, the eight largest are as follows:

The House of Ymar.

The House of Telo.

The House of Lxuf.

The House of Quig.

The House of Anok.

The House of Zyla.

The House of Tume.

The House of Seng.

Players are allowed to create their own members of any House on this list, or they may also create their own smaller Houses that can be part of the Council. Each House can have their own compound of varying size, and the players may focus on the inner dealings of the families if they so wish.

It is recommended if you make a character from one of the Houses listed here to have them be part of a branch family or of distant blood relations, as another player may already have plans involving their characters close relatives. Also, if you plan to have a romance, please inform me or Cwest of it so we don't screw anything up. [lol] For instance, I plan an eventual romance between Kyxe and Rine, which I really should have mentioned earlier.

*pant, pant* Well, that took a solid two hours. One last thing: Naming conventions for Kaydenite given names and Kaydenite House names are limited to four letters only. This is... well... stylistic. Also makes you use your noggin.

Sign-up example template thingy, GO!

This is certainly an intriguing concept. And I do enjoy your roleplay style from what I've seen in Spandex. Just give me a few hours to congeal my thoughts into the form of a character. (And make up my mind on a side... currently leaning towards dark.)

Planet Side: Dark

Given Name: L'okh

House Name: Zyra

Age: 325

Rank: Espionage Agent, 1st Class

Gender: Female

Appearance: A tall, thin woman with short black hair, pale skin, and no real distinctive features. Always wears a pair of black gloves. Usually dresses in tattered rags to blend into the crowd. Takes pride in her appearance being utterly unremarkable.

Personality: Greedy and sarcastic, with a tendency to alienate the people around her. Not a pleasant person, even to those she considers friends, but if you have earned her friendship, she's remarkably loyal. Her tendency to alienate people is an attempt to maintain her cover and avoid conflicting loyalties. Her greed, however, is real, and is one of the reasons her role fits her like a glove.

Backstory: A daughter of House Zyra, one of the smaller houses, L'okh had a fairly average childhood. After her first year at Aentolin Academy, however, she dropped out and simply vanished. Many years later, her name started to come up again, this time as that of a master thief. Unfortunately, she took the wrong job, and was betrayed by her client, who left her to be caught, leading to her exile to the dark side of the planet. Once there, she quickly allied herself with the Wave Breakers for protection, using her skill as a thief to work her way up the ranks. In reality, this is just a cover story. House Zyra has a long and storied (though not well known, for obvious reasons) history of producing spies and assassins. Trained in stealth from a young age, L'okh is one of the light side's top espionage agents, sent to infiltrate and report on the Wave Breakers.

Mastered Hardlight Technique: Hardlight keys and lockpicks, perfect for thievery and espionage, which double as razor-sharp throwing weapons.

Other Skills: A master of stealth, able to easily blend into the background of any environment, and a masterful liar.

Miscellaneous: Her right glove contains a transmitter used to relay information to her handlers.

Nice to see you, Insane. I'm sure you will find a way to breath life into this when it starts tongue

Also, good to see you too, Cyber - from what I've seen of you on Forum Games you seem a pretty chill dude.

Don't feel stressed to make a sign up sheet, I'm taking my time as me and Cwest are still figuring out what the hell we're doing. [lol]

Edit: I was nja'd by that, sorry Insane. All looks good there, L'okh is accepted. It will be good to have a double agent, keeps things interesting.

Also, clever pun you cheeky bugger.

Did not expect to have this done so quickly, but when inspiration strikes you're naught but a conductor.

  • Planet Side: Light Side

  • Given Name: A'dni (pronounced "odd-nee")

  • House Name: Seng

  • Age: 248

  • Rank: Cadet

  • Gender: Female

  • Appearance: A short, stocky, underfed, androgynous adolescent girl with a buzzcut and a penchant for heavy, shapeless clothing.

  • Personality: A'dni is observant, rational, and stoic, to the point of being cold. She wants power to protect her loved ones, and she sees knowledge as the best way to gain that power. She's very much an overachiever as a result. A'dni is also not a nice person, but she has a strong moral code and is much kinder than she lets on, best shown in her very close relationship with her mother and her loyalty to her friends (if she ever makes any friends, that is). She doesn't enjoy combat much, so her fighting style is generally to finish things as quickly as possible, which can involve quick disarmament or straight up breaking limbs.

  • Backstory:

    • A'dni's mother, Vihr, was a servant of the House of Seng. A'dni grew up acutely aware of the lack of power she had, especially after her mother contracted an illness with effects similar to hemophilia that left her unable to work.

    • The now-adolescent A'dni was contacted by Skal, a member of House Seng who revealed that she was his illegitimate daughter. His legitimate daughter had recently died, so he wanted A'dni to represent the family at Aentolian. She initially told him to, and I quote, "go fuck yourself," but after she realized that this could help her move ahead in the world and Skal promised to financially support her mother, A'dni agreed.

  • Mastered/Favorite Hardlight Technique:

    • Hardlight Shields: A'dni's favorite technique is to create small, portable force fields to protect her and others from harm - or to smash someone's face in. They're flexible like that. The smaller ones can also be used as throwing discs.

  • Miscellaneous: Her theme would probably be "Control" by Music/Poe.

@Emily: Good to see you on board, Emily, and yet another wonderfully interesting character. Or interestingly wonderful character.

One of the two.

Anyway, A'dni is accepted.

This also reminds me; A'dni may have some conflict with a certain daughter of the main branch.

Speaking of which, I better start making my own sign up sheets, starting with...

  • Planet Side: Light
  • Given Name: Kyxe (pronounced 'kicks')
  • House Name: Seng
  • Age: 249
  • Rank: Cadet
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: A slim, naturally muscular young woman with short, dirty blonde hair. Prefers simple, plain clothing.
  • Personality: She is outwardly kind and approachable, yet has a latent determination and surprisingly vicious streak when it comes to fighting, perhaps born out of inner frustration of her 'condition.' Much like her relative, Kyxe does not enjoy fighting much, and aims to end it as quickly as possible. Unless of course, her opponent had hurt her family or friends in some way. In which case, she will relish the fight.
  • Backstory:
    • Kyxe was born to Ji'la and Van'l Seng of the main branch, with Ji'la a council representative, and Van'l being a patrol guard on the Equator Wall.
    • As she grew, however, her parents noticed her surprising struggle in Hardlight generation. Fearing for their daughter's health, they brought her to a hospital to check for any biological abnormalities.
    • Sadly, the doctor found one. One of her four Hardlight organs had failed to mature correctly, causing more strain than usual on her body whenever she tried to channel Hardlight. The doctor said that she may never use advanced military constructs for fear of permanently rupturing her organs.
    • Although distraught, Kyxe did not simply give up. She trained herself half to death in an attempt to prove to her family that she was not a lost cause, eventually mastering her ability to create small throwing knives and daggers with as little effort as a flick of the wrist. However, she still struggles with even the standard sword and bludgeon constructs, forcing her to primarily fight at a distance, overwhelming her opponents with a flurry of projectiles.
  • Mastered/Favourite Hardlight Technique:
    • Hardlight Knives: Kyxe is a proud master with knife combat, primarily using the throwing variant with deadly accuracy, although she does have some skill with close quarters knife combat. However, she simply cannot stand up to a skilled swordfighter in mêlée combat, and so has to keep her distance most of the time.
  • Other Skills: Apart from her incredible accuracy, she also has great physical strength and speed, useful for harder knife throwing and dodging, two skills that are a necessity for her to survive against other Kaydenites. She is also quite observant in her surroundings, making her suitable for scouting or infiltration.

Well, guess I'm accepting myself then... [lol]

And here's some potential NP Cs.

  • Planet Side: Dark Side

  • Given Name: Ursi

  • House Name: V'n'za (pronounced "vuh-inza")

  • Age: 500

  • Rank: N/A

  • Gender: Nonbinary, femme-presenting, uses they/them pronouns

  • Appearance: A short, squat person with dark skin and shoulder-length red hair. Favors neat, professional clothing, especially whatever the Kayden equivalent of tuxedos are.

  • Personality: For a bandit leader, Ursi is remarkably personable. Stylish and gregarious, they treat banditry less like a job and more like a really fun hobby. That's not all there is to them, though: they do want to improve the living conditions on the Dark Side, but on their own terms. As a result, they really dislike Light Siders coming to their home and purporting to know better about what to do than the actual residents. In addition, their relationship with Le'la is actually quite loving, respectful, and healthy.

  • Backstory:

    • Ursi grew up on the Dark Side as a member of the Spine Snappers, so they didn't have a particularly fun childhood. As a young adult, Ursi was kidnapped by the Blood Rose faction. While they were initially slated for execution, they managed to keep herself alive by being useful: providing information on their old faction, pitting various members against each other, and building alliances that lasted only as long as they were useful.

    • During their kidnapping, they developed a real friendship with Le'la, another kidnappee, which quickly blossomed into a romantic relationship. With Le'la's help, Ursi rose in rank, until they had become one of the highest-ranking members - and soon its leader, if all goes according to plan...

  • Mastered/Favorite Hardlight Technique: Thanks to their high position, Ursi rarely has to fight themself - they have people for that, thank you very much. On the rare occasions when they do fight, they favor wrist-mounted claws.

  • Other Skills: Expert administrator, tactician, burglar, pickpocket, and lock pick.

  • Miscellaneous: Theme is probably "Wicked Ways" by Garbage.

  • Planet Side: Dark Side

  • Given Name: Le'la (pronounced "layla")

  • House Name: Lxuf

  • Age: 505

  • Rank: Second lieutenant

  • Gender: Female

  • Appearance: A tall, willowy woman with light brown skin, cropped short black hair, and a penchant for practical yet colorful clothing.

  • Personality: She's beauty, she's grace, she'll punch you in the face! Ursi's lover and primary enforcer, Le'la is polite, refined, and hella bloodthirsty.

...well, that's an overstatement. Le'la is simply very good at what she does, she enjoys it, and there's nothing wrong with that. She maintains an air of poise and grace no matter what, something that can become creepy very quickly. She's also a big believer in honesty, loyalty, chivalry, all that jazz, which is why she reacted so badly to being betrayed by her squad. As a citizen of the Dark Side, she will do everything in her power to make it a better place.

  • Backstory:

    • Le'la was never supposed to go to the Dark Side. Her family's plan was for her to graduate Aentolian and marry someone high up. But nobody expected Le'la to be as good at fighting as she is, and what's more, nobody, least of all Le'la herself, expected her to enjoy it.

    • After graduating, Second Lieutenant Le'la Lxuf went on duty on the Dark Side. Then something went horribly wrong, and her inexperienced general ended up leaving her behind, alone, with no supplies. Le'la almost certainly would have died if she hadn't been found by the Blood Rose. Thinking she would be useful, they kept her. During an interrogation, Le'la proved to not know any new or useful information, and they intended to kill her off...

    • ...until another prisoner, Ursi, intervened. They pointed out that Le'la had knowledge of Aentolian military training, and that could prove useful. Le'la, feeling betrayed by her family and fellow soldiers, agreed.

    • As Le'la taught the other Blood Rose members everything she knew, Ursi rose in the ranks. The two of them developed a close friendship that soon blossomed into a romantic relationship, and Le'la became Ursi's primary enforcer.

  • Mastered/Favorite Hardlight Technique:

    • Hardlight Armor: By shielding her entire body in hardlight, Le'la greatly enhances her strength and durability. Of course, she can only maintain it as long as she can go without breathing, so she has to time her weak spots accordingly. She's quite good at it.

  • Other Skills: Le'la graduated top of her class in hand to hand combat.

  • Miscellaneous: Theme is probably "Vow" by Garbage.

@Emily: Both accepted.

@kaalban: Yo! Feel free to ask anything in the discussion!

so we can quickly improvise an answer

Anyway, I just realised that I forgot to create my main Kaydenite. Whoops...?

  • Planet Side: Light
  • Given Name: Rine
  • House Name: Anok
  • Age: 250
  • Rank: Cadet
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: A young, unnaturally pale man with short red hair and a deceptively thin, athletic build.
  • Personality: Rine seems to have inherited his father's detached, serious personality. However, instead of flaunting it, Rine hides under a cheerful, joking façade. If anyone is stupid enough to do something that makes him drop his mask, such as hurt his family or friends, he will hunt them down without fault to give them exactly what they deserve. Despite this, Rine does have a genuine kindness hidden within him that he occasionally shows.
  • Backstory:
    • Rine was born to Ekan and Si'lz of the House of Anok. Ekan is the current representative of the main branch of the Anok family, while Si'lz has gained a reputation of her own in the Dark Side for her vicious fighting against the bandit factions.
    • In a manner unknowingly similar to that of Kyxe Seng, Rine experienced prolonged abdominal pain in his early years. Upon investigation, it was discovered that he had six Hardlight organs, instead of the usual four.
    • Upon this discovery, Rine practically begged his father on hands and knees to personally train him, something which he had never done before. After Ekan's surprised acceptance, he began to train Rine in mixed swordfighting and Hardlight generation, both which he proved to be very adept at. Rine has even created his own style out of an amalgamation of others; one that is flowing, unpredictable, and not afraid to hit hard.
  • Mastered/Favourite Hardlight Technique:
    • Hardlight Scimitar: Rine has grown attached to this weapon, as he is usually flipping and slashing at high speeds, the worst thing that could happen is for his blade to get stuck. However, the curved edge of the scimitar prevents this, and is most effective while in motion, something which his style is focused on.
  • Other Skills: Assisted by him being quite lightweight, Rine has knowledge of free running and parkour, integrating flips and wall kicks into his fighting so he is actively using his environment against his enemy.
  • Miscellaneous: Leitmotif is Mob Chikara no Kaihou.

So, I will debut (or not) with this character:

  • Planet Side: Light.

  • Name: Xake (read Seik)

  • House: Tehk (House of scientists)

  • Age: 248

  • Rank: Cadet

  • Gender: Male

  • Appearance: Ignore the mechanical parts.

  • Personality: Stoic, or rather, emotionless husk of a Kaydenite. "Machine" would be a right word to describe him in terms of personality. However, since he learned some social skills from his "family", Xake can at least look sociable. This Kaydenite also can't feel grief, sadness or guilt (or at least, that's what was supposed to happen. See Background for more information). His dream is to become a Captain Patriotic. While Xake is overall a nice, if a bit grumpy and emotionless person, he can abandon his "friends" or his "family" if his need arises. Often thinks about his purpose.

  • Backstory:

    • House of Tehk was always a minor family thanks to their unorthodox approach to science and their unwillingness to give birth to soldiers. Since most of the family members were only interested in science shenanigans and nothing else, chances of soldier being born in this family was akin to eternal empires actually existing (in other words, none).

    • However, that changes when the future head of the House, Lari Tehk, decided to create a Kaydenite. Of course, this wasn't easy, even for a family filled with scientific geniuses. Kidnapping a person and altering them was out of question (both for practical and moral reasons), creating a matter out of nothing was impossible (unless it is not) and the only method left was a genetic alteration.

    • Eventually, after trails and tribulations, the House eventually created the "Ultimate Soldier" (the process of creation was akin to Designer Babies). All seemed well, with Xake turning out to be a ruthless, cold-blooded, Terminator-esque future-killing machine ready to go to war. And one of the House members had a problem with it. With a wish to make him "more than a machine", she attempted to alter his emotional capacity. The effort seemed to have been thwarted and she was exiled to the Dark for this.

    • However, she was successful in her attempts, as Xake has shown interest in topics other than war and killing (his favorite is philosophy). Lari left him be, as he didn't show any troubling behavior. And with him becoming an official member of the House, Lari plans to rise above the questionable reputation of their house by using him as a pawn.

  • Mastered Hardlight Technique: He was designed to create any type of guns, but so far, he favors...

    • Hardlight VF (Versatile Firearm): As he's designed to be a soldier and he doesn't want to take any chances, Xake uses a gun that can both function as a sub-machine gun and a sniper rifle. He can change "modes" in a fly. However, a sniper shot needs to be charged to be effective. (Disclaimer: I basically copy-pasted this weapon.)

  • Other skills: As a future-soldier, Xake is pretty good with CQC.

  • Weakness (I feel I need to create this): However, his body (and mind, to a certain degree) is pretty unstable. Sometimes, instead of seeing objects as they are, he sees "codes" making the form of their body. In that state, he "blacks out", thus he can't do anything while stuck in a shell of a body. These are brought by genetical "glitch" thanks to the fixing the exile did. And worse, his existential crisis worsens in this case (which is pretty obvious).

  • Miscellaneous: His theme is this

Honestly, I was a little confused at first whether he was genuinely a machine or if that was just a metaphor, but after re-reading it in more detail, Xake is accepted.

[down] Alright, that's good.

Sorry for the confusion. I cleared it up a bit to be less confusing (I hope).

Just a quick heads up, I'm in the process of deciding whether to start this RP fairly soon or wait a little longer for more players. Whatever the decision, sign-ups will remain open.

[down] Alright, but I may have to check it later, as it's past midnight here. Sorry for any delay.

Let me know if I need to change anything.

Planet Side: Dark

Given Name: Jok'a (pronounced Joe-ka)

House Name: Gast

Age: 266

Rank: None

Gender: Male

Personality: Jok'a doesn't talk much but when he does, it's usally something snarky, even if he's blowing a bandit into giblets. However, there is some kindness underneath the sharp tongue, usually reserved for people he feels he can trust.

Appearance: Jok'a stands at 6 feet, possessing a lean build with the musculature of a brawler. He possesses a tan complexion, lava-red eyes framed by shaggy shoulder-length black hair, and he has a short black beard. Wears a pair of worn olive pants, boots and a dirt-stained t-shirt. A beat-up jacket is draped over his shoulders

Backstory:

  • Millennia ago, the house of Gast was a small who were feared for their ability to create explosive hardlight constructs. Due to reasons lost in time, they were exiled to live in the Dark Side. Now, the Gast family is no more, the descendants scattered among the wildlands.

  • Jok'a's mother died in childbirth, and raised by his father R'skr Gast, who was a mechanic/scavenger. Growing up in one of the few settlements not under bandit rule, Jok'a led a relatively simple life. He would scavenge machines to fix and sell/trade; train with his explosive constructs under his father's watch, and kill bandits trying to raid the settlement. It was as normal a life as you could get living in the Dark Side, until Jok'a reached his first century. One night, Copy 1 appeared on R'skr's doorstep, stating that Rok'n had heard of the Gast family's ability and wanted the family's power under his rule, one way or another. By daybreak, the settlement was in ruins. Jok'a had managed to escape the clutches of Copy 1, but his father was not as fortunate.

  • From that day on, Jok'a became a drifter, surviving by hunting as well as repairing and selling salvaged machinery to settlements. Occasionally, his scavenging drew the ire of nearby scavenging groups, but he managed to drive them back with his missiles.

  • A month ago, Jok'a was captured by the Wave Breakers, who had heard about his ability to create explosive constructs, as well as how he pissed off the local scavengers. They gave him an choice: Join the Wave Breakers, or they would hand him over to the scavenger groups out for his blood. Face with such prospects, Jok'a reluctantly agreed.

Mastered/Favoured Hardlight Technique:

  • Hardlight Missile: Jok'a creates a floating missile construct and launches it at the target, where it will detonate upon impact. He is capable of creating up to five missiles at once. Jok'a can also alter the size of the missiles, and by extension, their explosive power. The smaller the missiles, the more he can create simultaneously.

Other Skills: Due to his upbringing, Jok'a is an experienced scavenger and mechanic, able to fix machinery and weapons to trade at other settlements. He's also learned how to track bandit parties and hunt during his time living alone.

Miscellaneous: Drives a scavenged hoverbike, which he stole from a Darkrider.

Sounds like a tough opponent. Jo'ka is accepted, but I do have one question. I assume he has had implants in order to change the colour of his Hardlight? These are the equivalent of tattoos, and I imagine they may be popular in the factions. The reason I ask is because the colour of a Kaydenite's eyes is connected to the colour of their Hardlight.

If yes, he won't just have explosive constructs, he'll have red explosive constructs.

Currently planning to introduce 2 NP Cs (one from Light, one from Dark). This one's from Light.

  • Planet Side: Light

  • Name: Lari

  • House Name: Tehk

  • Age: 369

  • Rank: N/A

  • Gender: Female

  • Appearance: Something akin to this

  • Personality: Incredibly ambitious, she dedicates her life for the glory of her family, as well as Kayden itself. Puts efficiency above all else, so she's quite competent in many aspects. However, Lari is apathetic towards morality and others, to the degree that might startle even the most pragmatic ones. She even planned to put mind-control device inside Xake and her other family members so that they would have absolutely NO doubts in following her orders (the exile put the stop to that). Lari Tehk is a perfectionist, to the point where she is a Control Freak. She is often found alone in her office, interacting with no one in her family. However, she feigns kindness to seem as a Sugar-and-Ice Personality, when she is anything but (Lari is not a Jerkass, but still she isn't exactly nice either). The fact that nobody knows is that Lari actually talks to herself a lot when no one is present near her, so she is also a loon in a family of scientific loons.

  • Background:

    • Lari Tehk was born from an unstable mother, Lien Tehk, who lost her husband, Lunn Tehk, just right before her birth. Lunn volunteered himself to become a soldier for the glory of Kayden (he planned to become a Genius Bruiser, basically). Until the Green Degeneration Outbreak, at least. In an attempt to stop it, Lunn tried to invent the cure for a disease. However, he could not finish the work as he died saving Kaydenites from the infected.

    • Lari, at young age, finished her father's work and saved Kayden from the apocalypse. The credit went to the House itself, not particularly to her. After the dust has been settled, Lien, new head of the House tried to resurrect her husband, but to no avail (she even tried to use some serums of Tejk House). She practically ignored her daughter, leaving her in the hands of other people in the family. Eventually, Lien, seeing no hope, committed suicide. All of this broke Lari, and she became a monster.

    • Lari Tehk, hearing a story about her father, thought that having a soldier in the family would continue his legacy. Then, she stumbled upon the records of the House of Tejk. The word "Ultimate Lifeform" clicked inside her mind, making her decide to create a soldier, instead of giving birth to him or her. After the creation of Xake Tehk, she became a new head of the House for both this and stopping Green Degeneration.

    • It could be said that Lari inherited both her father and her mother's legacy. From Lunn, bringing glory to the House and Kayden (the House part is misunderstood on her part), while from Lien, she inherited apathy towards her family for the sake of a goal.

  • Mastered Hardlight Technique: Hardlight drone.

  • Other skills: Brilliant scientist, genius of the age. She doesn't fight herself, of course.

  • Miscellaneous: Her Leitmotif.

    • Some members of the House speculate that Lari and Xake are actually mother and son, since they are too similar to be not.

So, first Dark Side character from me.

  • Planet Side: Dark

  • Name: Lan'r

  • House Name: Tehk

  • Age: 350

  • Rank: N/A

  • Gender: Female

  • Appearance: Sort of like this

  • Personality:

    • Lan'r is infected with Green Degeneration. So, Lan'r is, in many ways, detached from reality and unstable. She suffers from hallucinations, delusions and constant cognitive dissonance. She uses some form of substance to quell symptoms of Green Degeneration, but that created a new problem. Lan'r suddenly found an urge to consume Hardlight, in other words, consume Kaydenites. She barely suppresses it.

    • Voices in her head, which is another symptom, each represent one aspect of her.

    • She is generally a nice and good-hearted person who just wants to help. However, Lan'r sometimes hurts people just so she can help them because of her insanity.

  • Background:

    • Lan'r used to live a happy life with her family... until she discovered Xake "Tehk". Upon realizing that he was supposed to become the ultimate killing-machine, Lan'r decided to make him more than that by disabling his emotional suppressor.

    • However, before properly finishing the process, this "treachery" was discovered by Lari. Since most of the House actually thought of Xake as a "progress of science", they condemned Lan'r's actions since she might have ruined the creation.

    • As such, she was exiled to the Dark. Now then, you might ask, how did she get Green Degeneration? Well, here's the thing. Before sending her to the Dark, Lari injected a new strain of GD she developed in her. This strain could be activated with a flicker of button. Lari did it to eradicate the Dark Side completely, as well as to show Lan'r and others that new head of the House should not be trifled with.

    • And now, Lan'r wanders around Dark Side, her mind slowly rotting. She has already infected some people and that adds to her guilt.

  • Mastered Hardlight Technique: Chainsaw

  • Other skills: Accomplished medic.

  • Miscellaneous: Her theme

CLARIFICATION: She won't eat anyone in this RP.
