Ymmv can't be played with though.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."miraculous, the vehemence with which you're arguing against this is bringing back my old feelings that we really shouldn't have this page at all, because it just attracts shipping drama.
(For the record, I've never even watched Arrow - inasmuch as I have a dog in this fight, it's just the previously mentioned concern about removing an example that was true at one time because it later became canon/alienated the fanbase).
Oh sorry if this is coming off too aggressively. I just wanted to state my point.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I found this example under the literature subpage:
- Bridge to Terabithia's Jess/Leslie (or "Jesslie") is a bit of an odd duck among fan preferred couples because a) it's the only thing anyone in this fandom ships, and b) it would be completely canon if not for Leslie ending up on the wrong end of a Diabolus ex Machina. A none-too-small portion of the fanfic for this story is dedicated to pushing the Reset Button as far down as it'll go, often by revealing there was something genuinely mystical about those woods after all.
Does it count as Fan-Preferred Couple if there is no Official Couple or any romantic resolution? Is it because fans prefer this ship to nothing? If that's the case, wouldn't any ship involving these characters be considered a Fan-Preferred Couple?
Goes under One True Pairing (the fandoms most popular pairing )
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Cut and move to One True Pairing. There's no official couple. So it can't be a Fan-Preferred Couple, because there's no Creator preferred one. Plus like the entry itself admits it's basically canon, and so I am reasonably sure it is the Creator preferred one and shipping them was the intended response that the writers wanted.
I found one that sadly needs to go. From American Horror Story: Hotel:
- Fan-Preferred Couple: Liz Taylor/Tristan, who were well-liked by a majority of the fanbase due to their sweet and genuine love for each other and Liz Taylor's Ensemble Dark Horse status.
Now this is indeed the biggest ship from the season, but it's also canon. The two legitimately fall in love and while they both die. This is AHS, so they reunite as ghosts. So this is closer to One True Pairing or Super Couple, than this.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI just removed the Bridge to Terabithia examples. Out of curiosity is there any scenario where a work can lack an Official Couple and still have Fan-Preferred Couple apply?
Edited by Roseface on Oct 17th 2020 at 2:53:14 AM
Yes. If there is a lot of Ship Tease between characters. Like say a character has crush on someone even if it goes no where. But the fans prefer to pair them with someone else. Something like Princess Protection Program has Carter have a crush on a guy and later is hinted to be returning the feelings of another character. While most fans prefer to pair her with Rosie. That is enough in my mind to have a FPC. There is still a disconnet between the fan and Creator preferences. Bridge to Terabithia is a very different beast from that though. In that the ship getting Ship Tease is the one fans prefer, it's just that they don't end up together.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWhat about if there's no creator preferred relationship, but the creator expresses disgust or distaste for a particular ship? Would that count as Fan-Preferred Couple if fans show they support that pairing?
No not really. There needs to be a Creator preferred pairing. Otherwise it wouldn't be a Fan-Preferred Couple. It would just be a popular ship other wise. So no there needs to be at least some kind of Creator preferred pairing.
Though that's just my opinion. And I don't think that exact situation you have discribed has been discussed yet. So I am willing to hear other people's opinions.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI lean more towards yes, simply because an author who expresses a distaste for a pairing is showing a preference. Granted, that preference isn't towards a specific ship, but it's still a preference.
Do you know how hard it is to find an author stating that they hate a ship for a work that doesn't already have a Official Couple or Creator preferred pairing of some kind? Most creators just ignore shipping all together or take a more passive stance on it. Like saying, "Well we didn't mean for it to come off like that". Rather than actively saying that they hate it. If you can find them saying it sure, but I just don't know how common it will be.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSure, writers don't often say stuff like "Don't ship these characters together", but they have opinions of their characters and the relationship between them. There are creators who want to portray a relationship as unhealthy and were horrified to learn that instead fans found it romantic. That being said, I do agree that it is rare for a creator to disapprove of a relationship and not have a pairing they prefer.
Yeah definitely. Every Creator has an opinion on the characters they make and relationships between. It's just rare to find them saying that they actively hate it with out some sort of preferred couple. If you can find one however, then I don't see why it couldn't count.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOkay from Live-Action Films:
- Brigitte and Sam are this in Ginger Snaps.
Now it's been a while since I have watched the movie, but I seem to remember that they got legit Ship Tease in the first film with no competition. Now I have never seen the sequels so maybe she gets a love interest there. Though looking around online shipping Bridget with Ginger seems to be much bigger. However I am not that big of a part of this fandom, so I could be wrong.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThere's this from YMMV.ARMS:
- Fan-Preferred Couple:
- Spring Man/Ribbon Girl, if only because the two of them are the Series Mascots. That is until their ages were revealed in the Grand Prix and website profiles respectively. note
- Japanese players and artists can have a bit of fun with shipping Spring Man/Ninjara due to their different personalities and interests.
- Dr. Coyle/Max Brass, because her ending card shows that they were once a couple.
- Min Min/Ninjara, likely due to the two of them being so popular individually.
Besides, the Spring Man/Ribbon Girl and Dr. Coyle/Max Brass seem more like Abandon Shipping and Dry Docked Ship respectively.

Ships That Pass The Night then ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."There's also this from YMMV.Adventure Time:
- Fan-Preferred Couple: You'd be surprised how many people ship Finn with his genderbent counterpart, Fionna. It's not hard to see why, since their personalities are so similar that they're basically made for each other. Those who find it squicky tend to instead have them be Just Friends, or more often than not, twins (either the kind who bicker a lot, or are an inseparable Brother–Sister Team).
Finn/Fionna is a Crack Pairing at best, since not only is it nonsensical, it's physically impossible.
I'm actually surprised, for a show this ship-heavy, they managed to pick the most niche ship there is to represent this trope.
To an extent. Max/Coyle is definitely Foe Yay Shipping.
Min Min/Ninjara definitely counts as Ships That Pass in the Night, while the characters barely interact in general, these two especially count. Spring Man/Ninjara is more Ho Yay Shipping if anything.
Spring Man/Ribbon Girl is a bit more iffy, since they do share a lot of screentime, especially in advertising.
I am going to take your word on the ARMS examples, but yeah that Adventure Time one doesn't count. The show is full of big ships and they pick that one. Odd to say the least.
Any thoughts on the Ginger Snaps entry I braught up?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNot familiar with it, sorry.
I'm pretty sure I removed that Adventure Time example before. Someone must have put it back.
Oissu!Weird, especially since it's the only entry.
I'm currenty scouring the Related page to Fan-Preferred Couple and found this on YMMV.Yin Yang Yo:
- Fan-Preferred Couple:
- Yin/Yuck
- Yang/Smoke is pretty popular too.
- Yin/Yang
Yang/Smoke isn't even mentioned. And while Yin/Yang is more popular than Yang/Lina, it's only by one fanfic, so take that with a grain of salt.
I’m good either way. I lean toward having an entry for the YMMV at least.
I’m good with an entry that says it plays with it too.
