Anime Voice Actors aren't that expensive, in fact it's rather infamous how poorly paid they are and why most transition into video game voice acting which pays a bit better.

And the point still stands that you derailed a completely separate conversation to add a point that wasn't relevant.

"'Lionised' is the only one that has a more indirect connection to dialogue within the show"

Why? if anything the song is pretty much Adam short resume in a song and it still reveal he was slave as child, sometime the show kinda sort of hint but never reveal and we only know thanks to amity arena.

im the one run on the same with Mercury and is father, or sacrifice who have tons of foreshowing, right into the revelation of volume 6.

And the idea you can interpretated stuff is weak argument, that happen in the show all the time, I mean we lock a damn trope page because interpretation about two chararter sexuality, with songs is not diferent(hell, the whole no canon pretty much got drop because of it).

[up] Which has dubious canonicy to the point where Word of Dante is that the White Fang paid off the guys making Amity Arena to include them.

What does it mean for a song to be canon, anyway? We can accept that the majority of the songs are the characters' inner thoughts - at least in broad strokes (probably no one on Remnant is thinking much about Dragonball, Otis Redding, or for that matter, Bernard Purdie) - but Bmblb seems to suggest that the singers are already in a relationship, and that's obviously not canon for Blake and Yang at any point through volume 4. No matter how you slice it, if it's to be sung between Blake and Yang, it's a pure shipping number.

(Although maybe it should be mentioned that nothing in the song does more than vaguely allude to anything specific to the two of them... except for the mention of Bernard Purdie, it could've been diegetic.)

Most of the time, the song allude to thing the chararter feels: Lionized is Adam hero complex, divide sum Salem hatred for Ozpin, dream come true is Phyrra feeling for Jaune(and hilariosly that she thinks Weiss is too uptight) other like red like roses II is so hilariously non canon is not even funny.

Mirror Mirror II is instersting because it song in universe and it reflect Weiss current opinion of her father in a way so blatant it kind baffle someone if jacquest didnt notice it.

If she did sing the verses, you have to picture a hair metal backing band that left the stage for her to sing the final chorus.

Jeff Williams put it that (BMLMB aside) none of the songs should be taken literally, butare all designed to be thematic.

And now that I have a keyboard again I can vent as to how annoying the "RT can only afford big Voice Actors for a single episode" comments are. As Fergard pointed out RWBY alone has had several big actors voice reoccurring characters, on top of the ones he mentioned we've also had Jen Taylor for 6 volumes now (counting the W.O.R that she voiced for volume 2), we have Vic Mignogna for four volumes and are getting Jason Liebrecht next volume, Daman Mills was Lionheart, Luci Christian as Little Miss Malachite, Mela Lee as Cordovin, Amber Lee Connors as Vernal, Clifford Chapin as Shay D.Mann (that bandit Yang beat up, then beat up again, then Mercury and Emerald beat up), Kaiji Tang and Dawn M. Bennett as Ren's parents, Jason Douglas as Papa Schnee, and J. Michael Tatum as Klein. Some of those characters appeared for only two scenes, others were reoccurring throughout their entire volume, some even reprised their roles for RWBY Chibi, but that is still multiple professional and famous voice actors per volume.

And over on other RT shows we've had Elizabeth Maxwell and Yuri Lowenthal voicing main characters in Camp Camp (I.E having many voice lines in every single episode across all four seasons), as well as Travis Willingham appearing in a third of all episodes, Dante Basco once or twice a season, along with a few names from the previous paragraph in one episode roles.

So yeah, tiny bit of a bug bear here.

"'Lionised' is the only one that has a more indirect connection to dialogue within the show"

Why?

Because I'm talking about the trope, not the song or the show.

Jeff Williams put it that (BMLMB aside) none of the songs should be taken literally, butare all designed to be thematic.

And that he wants people to have their own interpretations of what the song lyrics mean.

[up][up] I don't know what they can or can't afford, only that "they wouldn't bring on this big name just to waste them" is most likely exactly wrong. Even your own list, bar Vic/Jason and Jen Taylor, seems to be making this point.

Honestly I get annoyed when I hear people complain about them "wasting" Laura Bailey as Amber. She didn't come on as a cast member, she was at the office one day, they asked her if she could do a line or two and some grunting noises, and there ya go. Hard to waste someone who was never intended to even be in the show and only was in it because of happenstance.

[up][up][up]Both that dosent rule out the fact he put canon things in the songs making somewhat canon, I think he said in a interview about making the song that he does get to see stuff about the show early and hint that into the songs from time to time.

When high-profile talent is used for a cameo, I can see people call that a waste. It's like, this person didn't even need to talk, so why bother?

@ Shaoken, Joshua Seth once said he got paid way more for a bit part on the Spongebob movie then he did for any anime work he ever did. Its why he got out of voice acting and became a hypnotist for a couple of years.

@twin the most minor of characters in that list still had two scenes, and over half showed up multiple times in a volume.

I also realised I never checked the Menagerie cast list. Fanus discrimination strikes again!

It bothers me more that they wasted her character than her voice actress, honestly. Here's the first Maiden we've ever seen, with cool powers, a fun design... and now she's in a coma. And now she's dead. That's our first Maiden, everybody!

[up]Quickly checked and there are four long term anime Voice Actors who had big roles in volumes 4 and 5 (Kali, Ghira, Illia and one of the brothers).

FINALLY caught up. I tapped out in the middle of volume 4. It's been almost two years.

I've loved everything. Things could be going a bit faster, but I have yet to hit an episode that makes me say "this was complete filler and entirely unnecessary." A few episode plots I would have cut or compressed, but mostly out of personal preference. As usual, the problem is that episodes and seasons are both too short. I understand it's necessary due to the studio's small size, but still annoying.

Let's see, specifically... the Maiden fight in volume 5 was awesome. Salem's backstory was awesome. The Adam fight was awesome. Ruby pulling a Not the Intended Use with the lamp was clever, Jinn saying It Only Works Once was narratively a good idea, and likewise was having Ruby's eyes not be a one hit kill on the Leviathan. Keep it from being a Story-Breaker Power.

Every fight scene except, like, the very first one in volume 4 has been great. I was worried after the golem fight because things seemed clunky, but they definitely found their feet.

Going forward, I'm still hoping that Summer is alive somehow. If only so that Yang can call her "mom" in front of Raven.

Oh, and I thought the Blake/Yang relationship would be spelled out a little more explicitly, but I guess it's as explicit as Nora/Ren.

Thirding that sentiment. This thread could use some positivity. Though I would like to make clear again, don't assume Yang x Blake is canon unless its specified by the show itself or by the writers, since they easily have their interactions seen as Heterosexual Life-Partners.

Man it is so good to get positivity again, so add me to that tally.

Also seconding the wish that Summer's still alive, since it's unclear if there's even a body in her grave or not.

It's Damn good to see Some positivity.

That's, um, worrying. I mean, one of the reasons I stopped watching for a while was negativity in this thread (though I was also really busy at the time). Is it really that bad here?

Though I would like to make clear again, don't assume Yang x Blake is canon unless its specified by the show itself or by the writers, since they easily have their interactions seen as Heterosexual Life-Partners.

Fair enough, though like I said it's as explicit as Nora/Ren. Who could be Platonic Life-Partners, but really seem like they aren't. Blake/Yang even got the "jealous ex demands to know what makes the new partner better" thing.

I guess the only actual, explicit relationship in the show was Pyrrha/Jaune. Well, and married couples, but I mean of relationships developed in the show.

Also seconding the wish that Summer's still alive, since it's unclear if there's even a body in her grave or not.

Dead or alive, I'm absolutely sure there's no body under that memorial, and no one thinks there is one. It's been said several times that Summer went out on a mission "and never came back," which strikes me as a situation where, even if they knew exactly where her body was, it wouldn't be worth it to recover it.
