Write A Plot From The Title (Writing Game)

Go To

If you're familiar with Contextualize/Whamise This Line, then you may know how this will work. However, instead of a line, you must write a plot/synopsis based off a title from a work in a "Poster above you" format. For example...

Troper A: Soul Surfer

Troper B: Soul Surfer is a cyberpunk action film about a man who has the unique ability to go into the bodies of other people, and must do this to clear his name for a crime he hasn't committed.

Something like that. I'm just hoping I'm being concise enough. Alright, let's begin.

This novel, originally published in French, concerns disparate characters who are initially connected only by the fact that they all go to a nightclub called The Sea of Sound. A murder at the nightclub brings them together and gives them a shared sense of purpose. Part murder mystery, part psychological novel, the work examines the ways in which the murder affects the characters.

The story follows a film noir-styled private detective made out of shadows rather than a physical entity.

Murders happen throughout the city's populace, and tension between shadow people and humans grows more and more tense, forcing our shadowy protagonist to get to the bottom of these murders before the populace strangles one another out of vengeance.

A overworked truck-driver forces himself to do a "all-nighter" and drives on with his truck, accidentally closes his eyes several times during it, and ends up snapping awake once his foot leaves the gas-pedal, only to discover himself on an abandoned street in the middle of a town that he's "pretty certain" didn't see ahead on the road before he dozed off. Now, on search for fuel, he locks the truck and heads down the street, while trying to get some help in the abandoned town.

And while at it, wonder about what is up with all the lit candles everywhere and the yellow tape strapped over the doors with "HEALTH-HAZARD" written across its surfaces...

A non-linear story about a time traveler who goes into the past to fix something. Past, present, and future blend and mix confusingly because the time traveler's time is simultaneously their past, future, and present, but the past is also their present and past.

A tale of some food-based Odd Job Gods that hail from a world where every mortal is either an atheist, a Nay-Theist or a little kid. This sees the eponymous gods trying to maintain their existence in a world where the only population of believers are predisposed by youth and developing taste buds to loathe the concepts they represent. A god of sweets is an unintentional antagonist and ally to the leafy green pair of divinities.

Also one where every divine character are children themselves.

A Doorstopper chronicle, comprising a detailed history of a number of serious attempts to escape the universe as we know it, by way of breaking, rending, shredding or otherwise sundering reality. Magical Realism epistolary fiction, with a serious dollop of Shown Their Work to boot.

Over the course of the chronicled events, it is implied that certain forces, presumably malign, are steered towards another purpose. Various essays describe and hypothesize after a particular form of ritual, performed to exact measure by the unknowing and unwitting participants

Toward the end of the book, the puzzle begins to come together. The author's use of key phrases and motifs throughout the rest of the novel allow the reader, throughout these final chapters, to envision the shape of something wicked and truly monstrous, bound and chained in a world sat just next to our own. Something that has been picking at the chains that bind it for millenia. Something on the verge of breaking free.

The final chapter is an evidence record in a missing persons case - a mathematician from Norway. It details his colleague's recollection of their last conversation, where the missing man, on the edge of sanity, seems to be rambling in a manner resembling psychosis. The colleague in particular remembers his friend's obsession with something he labelled "Vanagandr's Fetters" (title drop), and some restless anxiety as to whether "the postulate" implied a complete system or an inconsistent one.

The last page of the record is a picture of a motel room, gutted. Some form of dark liquid has been used to paint over the wall. It spells one word, "knust" - broken.

The caption introduces the scene as the last known location of the missing man, and begins to explain the scene's layout, but it's cut off by a jagged line in the photocopy, where the page was torn away.

(Even if it was divorced from FGO, the plot would still be about Ragnarok and the clash of frost and flame)

However it now becomes a Generational Saga about how the people try to eke out a living during the end of days. With a focus on the families that would spawn Lif and Lifthrasir as well as Brunhilde post Ring Cycle with the Twilight of the gods being a slowly unraveling backdrop. Fittingly, it would have heavy A Song of Ice and Fire influence.

Luigi Faraldo, known as "Papa Louie," runs a pizzeria in New York City that's popular with locals and tourists alike. It's also an important "neutral ground" for feuding Mafia families, who come to the restaurant to talk negotiations where violence of any kind is strictly prohibited. Papa Louie does his best to stay neutral in all conflicts, but when his own family is jeopardized in an escalating gang war, he has to make decisions he'd never put thought into in his life.
