Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki

Thank goodness its not just me then. I really want to just delete it but I also feel we could salvage it to the city having seen better days without that real life commentary. Nah, lets delete it. But I am open to opinions-

It's definitely gross.

There's also a tiny bit at the end about how inevitably in modern fiction these countries become Quarac. That could probably be tweaked a bit to mention how the two tropes are actually related.

i don’t mean to interrupt but i found this questionable example that i probably may be reading too much into but i don’t really like it. from AbandonShipping.Video Games:

• Similarly to the Rhajat example below, both the Chrom/Sumia ship and Sumia as a character took a major hit in popularity when the localization came out and was found to have turned their S Support into one big joke about pies (Sumia only cooked for Chrom twice originally), which "feminist fans" took as sexist and forced. Most shippers of the pairing simply eschew viewing the S support in favor of obtaining their proposal event at the end of Chapter 11, which is considered as far less awkwardly written.

again, i may be reading too much into this, but the Scare Quotes around ‘feminist fans’ feels a little iffy. what do you guys think

Just change it to fans. The sexism is discussed elsewhere in the entry anyway.

I need some verification for this example, which is found in YMMV.Fire Emblem Engage:

• Uncertain Audience: The game is something of a difficult sell compared to its immediate predecessors. On one hand, its lighter art style, Denser and Wackier presentation, and flashier animations seem tailored to draw newer players. On the other hand, its relatively high difficulty and copious references to previous games appeal more to veteran players.

x2 So the game is definitely way harder than its predecessors and it does have a bunch of call backs, but Easy Casual exists and understanding the references isn't necessary to follow the plot.

I also doubt it's trying to appeal to new players specifically anyway.

As for "Arabian Nights" Days, uhh, yeah, that paragraph’s pretty bad. (Not sure why it singles out Baghdad, either.) How about this for a replacement?

It's possible the Fire Emblem: Awakening page could use a deep scrubbing in general. It's been a long time since I last checked on it but I remember it being absolutely filled with whining from what seemed to be a bitter Chrom/Sumia shipper complaining about other fans demonizing the character unfairly or whining about feminism and Real Women Never Wear Dresses bashing female characters even though these were mostly fringe opinions related to shipping wars.

My own experience with the fandom indicates that the fanatical Chrom/F-Robin Relationship Sue shippers this person complained about are a small minority. Likewise, obnoxious Self-Insert Fic fans who ship themselves with a character and demonize everyone around them are a fairly universal problematic fandom phenomenon not as limited to Awakening as the page made it seem.

Take it to the complaining sandbox.

The page for Precure Meet The Dream Traveler is full of bashing and complaining about the fic series, whether justified or not.

Honestly, I think we should just cut the page together. All the original sporking pages for the fic have been taken down, with the ones who did the sporking saying they have no interest in returning to it. In addition, the author themselves hasn't updated his series since 2016.

I know that There Is No Such Thing As Notability, but considering the complaining and the lack of updates from the author, do you think that it's best to just cut it all?

Dead Fic is not a reason to delete the page.

If, after removing the complaining and any other unsalvageable entries, there's less than three valid trope entries left on the page, that would be a reason to delete it.

In that case, do you think we should resurrect Cori Falls' old trope pages? They were deleted because the author herself moved on from them and complaining, but honestly, I don't think that was really a good reason to delete the page.

Most of the "troping" in those pages was nothing but bashing. I doubt anyone cares enough to actually read and add non bashy tropes.

If someone can make a better page, sure. Otherwise, it's no big deal. It's just not a precedent(to remove pages easily simple cause they have a lot of complaining) we want to encourage. What we want is that it's fully cleaned up, and an attempt to be salvaged first. :)

Granted, those pages were cut ages ago and if you care enough to take a crack at doing it properly idk if it would be a big deal?

But yeah unless the fic in question has been eradicated from the internet, it going dead is no good reason to cut it.

I didnt just mean we should cut pages Just due to complaining. What I meant is that there was no genuine troping there, every single trope was added by the haters and critics and no one cared enough to actually add genuine good faith tropes to the page. That is why it was deleted. Do you care enough to rebuild it Irene?

Again, this was years ago when the wiki was a lot more willing to bash crearors. I don't believe that it would necessarily happen again if the page is made correctly.

That wasnt my point. My point was that I think that no one here really cares. But if they do and they add genuine good faith tropes they are more than welcome. I wasnt nor am I opposed to it.

Recreating a work or creator page that was previously cut because of cut-worthy problems is fine as long as it isn't part of the Permanent Red Link Club, doesn't violate The Content Policy, and fits our standards of a tropable work. From what I can tell from what's been posted (since I didn't see the pages), it doesn't look like it fails any of these criteria, so I don't see why trying again with a better page would be a problem.

I know and I have long said anyone who wants to recreate the Cori Falls page is more than free and welcome to do so. I just expressed disbelief anyone would care enough to do it. But if such people do exist and care enough to trope the page correctly fine by me.

I'm aware that you weren't saying creating it wasn't allowed, and I actually agree that it's likely that people won't care enough to recreate it. My post was part of the larger conversation and was mainly directed toward Necrowonomicon's original question, in case they wanted to hear from a mod on the matter.

Bringing this up from Dino Squad. These entries regarding inaccuracies in regards to animal species seem pretty complainy. Is there a way to make these two more neutral-sounding?

• Artistic License – Biology: Several. Particularly one episode which had a baby gorilla with a tail. Another claimed that cold-blooded animals can stay warm by keeping active and keeping their blood pumping.
• Informed Species: All over the place. In addition to the expected issue of the scaly, oversized Velociraptors, there's also Rodger's Styracosaurus form, which isn't readily recognizable as such thanks to its three horns, which make it look more like a Triceratops. There was also a "mutant Megalodon" that was clearly supposed to be a mosasaur, and a baby gorilla that looked more like a monkey, complete with a tail.
