We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.

I wish you all the same, Explosivo. It's sad that you have to go, but it's understandable.
I wish to resign from my position as Content Violations herald. I don't really want to be involved with it any more and I don't think the effort particularly needs a herald at this point anyway, though if someone else wants to continue using the automated message I wrote they're free to do so.
Can't be done without admin intervention, I am told. You'll have to ask one of them.

Well, since I'm running around crossing some of the t's and dotting a few of the i's in the wake of the revelation of the death of Komodin back in March, I might as well bump this up to point out that we no longer have a Video Games herald. If anyone's interested in taking that position...it's there.
(And you don't even have to write up a message, if you're willing to take over Komodin's.)

It would probably be a good idea to have a pinned list of what subfora have Herald vacancies, and do an occasional census of who's in the role but no longer actually around.

Maybe ~War Jay 77? She tends to work on several long-term projects daily (though not the CM/MB/HS trinity you're familiar with). I'm certainly not a candidate for any herald position, as I post a bit too rarely and specialise in different stuff like work-page creation and indexing.

My sincerest apologies, but...
Due to my general inactivity and flakiness, I will be leaving the TV Tropes forums (for the most part, I might still post if I get the urge) and am therefore resigning from my duties as herald for the Western Animation subforum. It's been a good two years, and I'm really happy I took the position, but I feel like if there's a herald for that subforum, it should be someone that's an active user and poster and is actually around in case they reply back needing something clarified.
