  • Adaptation Displacement: The show was adapted from a 1978 play about the lives of black women in an apartment building in 1950s Chicago. While this show is somewhat well-known, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who remembers the play.

  • Seasonal Rot: The fifth and final season is a bit poorer in quality than previous seasons, with new and recurring characters (Dylan, Travis, Julian, Eva, and Warren) taking the spotlight, and Sandra's diminished role (Jackée Harry had left the show and only guest starred in a few episodes that season).
