YMMV / The Wrong

Go To

  • Archive Panic: The franchise is already over two-dozen movies deep, with each installment running 90 minutes without commercials.
  • Complete Monster: The Wrong Friend: Chris Andrews is a sociopathic teenager with a penchant for violence and rape. After brutally raping Lisa, he is forced to switch schools where he immediately sets his sights on Riley, the daughter of the nurse who reported his rape. After charming Riley and inviting her to a party he's throwing, he drugs her drink and sexually assaults her while she's passed out. When Matt and Riley leave his house Chris beats himself up and frames Matt for the assault. When Kimberly finds out about Lisa, Chris viciously attacks her, beating her to the point she's hospitalized. He breaks into Riley's home, threatening to slit her mother's throat, stating that he plans to rape Riley again and again in front of her mother before killing both her and her mother.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: The constant use of Beauty Is Bad in this series runs the risk of viewers concluding that, if it were them, they would enjoy being the object of obsession for the hot villain.
  • Older Than They Think: Lifetime used the basic Wrong formula for almost literally hundreds of movies before it became a formal series, but definitely one important ancestor was 2004's Her Perfect Spouse, in which a woman (played by future Wrong regular Tracy Nelson) rushes into a Fourth-Date Marriage with The Bluebeard.
  • Periphery Demographic: According to Vivica A. Fox, these movies draw in more male viewers than the usual Lifetime programming.
  • Special Effects Failure: Most of the movies have a vague Southern California setting, but some of the stock footage used in establishing shots is from other locations, and, if you're familiar with the places they were shot, they create some jarring geographical inconsistency. Bookstore scenes open with an exterior shot of City Lights, which is not only a very famous San Francisco bookstore, but one that's heavily associated with The Beat Generation. The Wrong Fiancé has a character look out the window of a rented house in what's supposed to be a small town on California coast, but the footage shown is of the very distinctive scenery of Emerald Bay on Lake Tahoe.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Among the Wrong movies with female villains, Ivy Matheson as Emily in The Wrong Tutor stands out for really selling the Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, Mask of Sanity, Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon, Soft-Spoken Sadist and Yandere aspects of the character, taking a character who could've been a campy Fille Fatale and turning her into a creepily plausible Girl Next Door type with a hidden dark side.
