YMMV / LEGO Jurassic World

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: In the Jurassic Park section, there's a point where Lex and Tim are playing with their food and Lex holds up two cherries and a banana. It's supposed to be a smiley face but the two fruits together make it look like something else. For bonus points, the banana lowersnote  when she sees the raptor in the background.
  • Awesome Music: The Lego Jurassic World music. Which makes sense, as it's the music used in the movies.
  • Goddamned Bats: Compys. Small, blends in with the scenery, attacks in groups, and aggressive. To make things worse, they're usually in areas with a lot of destroyable plants, which tends to confuse the auto-targeting. There's an achievement for defeating 50 of them, which you'll get without even trying before you're halfway through the game.
  • Improved Second Attempt: In contrast to how the "supposed heroes" in The Lost World Jurassic Park don't really do anything heroic, and make several life-endangering blunders, here the InGen mercenaries attack them first, forcing them to defend themselves, and Nick Van Owen doesn't remove the ammunition from Tembo's gun before the T-Rex attacks their camp. Also, Peter Ludlow is given a more solid Kick the Dog moment by having one of his agents elbow Ian hard on the stairwell at the start of the game, not to mention the fact that he's later shown to have some amazingly stupid ideas for his planned San Diego park, and he doesn't even slightly care if anyone gets harmed in said park as long as he can make a profit.
  • Magnificent Bitch: The Indominus rex is more sympathetic than her original counterpart while still retaining her intelligence. Bitter about how she's treated by the Jurassic World staff, she hatches a plan to escape and destroy the park. Using her camouflage ability, she hides in her cage and makes it look like she climbed out, escaping when the doors are open for investigation. Managing to remove her tracking device to throw security off, she continues her rampage while overcoming anything in her way, be it the security or other dinosaurs. When confronted by the Velociraptors tamed by Owen Grady, she uses her raptor DNA to communicate with them and win their sympathy, becoming the pack leader and having them drive off her enemies. After Owen manages to win them back, the Indominus wastes no time combating the Raptor Pack, incapacitating two of them and holding her own even after "Rexy" is unleashed, only being stopped by being suddenly eaten by the Mosasaurus.
  • Narm: An inevitable result of being a lighter, more comedic retelling for a fairly gritty franchise, as well as how every character, human and dinosaur, is now in a much-more-cutesy LEGO form, but many of the scariest moments from the movies are now...significantly less so, to put it this way. As a result, many things that were easily played dead-seriously originally can now be much harder to take seriously, and while there are still a few genuine scares here and there, they're much less frequent and less severe.
  • Polished Port: The Nintendo Switch version runs smoothly, and has all the formerly console version exclusive pre-order DLC bundled in from the get go, making it the definitive version of LEGO Jurassic World.
  • Porting Disaster: The Xbox 360 has an abysmal framerate and a bug that causes the game to crash upon startup. This is especially jarring as the PS3 version manages to run better than the 360 version.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Unlike in their original appearance, Paul and Amanda Kirby can actually pull their weight and fight dinosaur adversaries themselves, making them actually feel useful to the story.
  • Special Effects Failure: More of an audio effects failure, but some of the voice clips in Jurassic World sound distorted due to not being properly re-mastered after being lifted from the movies.
    • Also, the Jurassic World set on the opening menu doesn't look very convincing considering what it is, which is odd since presumably it was the same model as the one used in-game, which looks much better.
  • Squick: Some characters can dive into dinosaur droppings to find items, also known as their poop.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: The Spinosaurus of Jurassic Park III gets hit with this, even taking the humorous tone of the game into account. It no longer beats the T. rex, it gets stuck in stocks and pelted with fruit, its attempts to escape the fire lead to it falling in, and it becomes a timeshare salesdino.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Numerous characters from other Spielberg properties receive cameos and, as is the case with Martin Brody, voice actors, but none are playable. This could be due to licencing issues preventing them from getting anything more than cameos, but that doesn't explain why Lewis Dodgson - the Greater-Scope Villain of the first film (and entire franchise, though the developers couldn't have known that yet) and both novels - is never even seen, only briefly heard over the phone.
