YMMV / Bowser's Koopalings

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • This line from Iggy at the beginning of "Iggy's Pet":
Iggy: And now this potion should make me bigger! Now I'll get so many more chicks!
  • Adorkable:
    • There is just something about Larry being so naive when compared to his siblings and thinking that "meanie" is an actual insult that comes off as charming.
    • Travis is clumsy, but also charming. No wonder Wendy fell for him.
  • Awesome Moments: In the first part of "Ludwig's Dilemma" Ludwig finally tells off Bowser for his spoiling of Junior and destroys Junior's cake for good measure. After all of the trouble Junior's caused, can you blame Ludwig?
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Larry Koopa. On one hand, he is very sympathetic and kind-hearted, which has earned the hearts of many fans. On the other side, however, other fans find him annoying.
    • Ludwig has a varied fanbase. You could either love his character for being snarky and understand where his demeanor comes from considering all that has happened to him or find him a total jerk who is too mean to Larry.
    • Wendy Koopa has a varied fanabase. You may either find her a interesting character who is likable for being a good friend/sibling for Larry. On the other hand, her social media obsession can be seen as annoying.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • This line from Morton in "Time Travel Trouble":
Morton: So what does everyone think of this Adolf guy? Pretty horrible, right?
    • Bowser Jr. literally nuking an entire kingdom in "Son of Morton" as part of a Cutaway Gag.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Even though he mainly shows up for Goomburger scenes, Chef Kawasaki is one of the most beloved characters in the series, thanks to his comedic moments and lovable personality.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Clawgrip's cannon exploding and getting mercilessly injured by Bowser Jr. in "Castle Crashers" is a little difficult to watch for those who really enjoyed InstaButNot's voice work, as he left the team shortly after the release of this episode because of his personal life, with Clawgrip being his final role in any of FreezeFlame22's shows.
  • Fan Nickname: Clyde Adams, gets often called the Angry Paratroopa, as he is a Paratroopa that turns Red. But some people call him "The Earrapist" in case they are headphone users and he is really loud when angry.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the episode "The Parallel Universe", Ludwig asks Larry if he is finally going to come out of the closet. Fast-forward three seasons later, and Lemmy comes out of the closet. On a similar note, Lemmy saying that he wants to go to his bedroom to play with balls in the "Pilot" episode of the series, and Wendy stating that he once got his tongue stuck in the mouth of a snowman in "Morton Koopa Sr." become even funnier after the reveal of him being gay.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Sure, Ludwig is smug and self-centered, but you can't help but feel bad for the guy, having his would-be position as the king taken away by a sociopathic little kid, who to add more insult to injury constantly rubs it in his face, and being, for a lack of a better word, Surrounded by Idiots at every moment.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Camilla has always been an unpleasant Spoiled Brat who thinks everyone is beneath her, but no one would expect that she would go as far as to trick Wendy, who considered Camilla a good friend, into gaining a lot of weight so Travis would dump her out of disgust in order to date him herself.
      • If you don’t think that cemented Camilla as being anything but a piece of trash, then she definitely sank to a new low when she started to pull nasty pranks on Wendy in an attempt to force her to break up with Travis, among which include putting a venomous snake in the castle's bathroom and breaking into Wendy's room, stealing all of her possessions, and selling them online. Travis is downright disgusted, to the point of outright calling her a horrible person and rendering her chances of dating him non-existent.
    • King Johann XVIII, the king of the Bohnenkraut Kingdom is a tyrant who was responsible for the death of Ludwig's biological mother, and he also murdered his first four children while lying to Ludwig that they were stillborn. As if that weren't bad enough, he plans to use the Green Star to power an energy cannon that will kill countless innocents, including women and children, in the Bohnenkraut Kingdom during Chuckola Fest so that he can establish a new empire. And to test out said weapon, he fires it at Karhar City, killing all the inhabitants, including the children.
  • Play-Along Meme: In Bowser's Koopalings, with the exception of his three allies no one is capable of remembering Fryguy's name, so fans jokingly say that they don't know who Fryguy is either.
  • The Woobie:
    • Poor Larry. He's always poked fun at by his siblings and whenever he tries to fit in, he's always called out for it as it usually gets the Koopalings in a great deal of trouble.
    • Even though Ludwig acts smug and prideful most of the times, he is actually very lonely on the inside. This is a result of his would-be position as the future king of the Koopa Kingdom being taken over by Bowser Jr. as he is Bowser's biological son, and Junior both rubbing it in his face and mistreating him and the other Koopalings for no reason other than to be an asshole. He is also constantly annoyed by his other siblings' antics, especially Larry's. Not to mentioned, he's always put into slapstick or some sort of injury, even dying from some on occasions.
    • Kamek never gets the recognition he deserves for doing his job at the castle, and he is always subjected to some kind of abuse from Bowser, The Koopalings, Bowser Jr., or the other residents of the castle. The same thing also happened with Bowser's father back in the day. No wonder he is such a grump.
