This will not end well...

Dog Pounded is a 1954 Looney Tunes short (7 min.) directed by Friz Freleng, starring Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird.

Sylvester spots Tweety in a nest up high on a pole. A pole inside a dog pound surrounded by dozens of bulldogs. The lisping cat tries everything he can think of to get past the dogs and catch the little canary, including high-wire walking, hypnosis, and disguises; but as always, Failure Is the Only Option.

Tropes present in this short:

  • Bully Bulldog: Usually, Sylvester has to deal with one; here, it's a whole pound full of them.
  • Full-Body Disguise: Sylvester puts on a dog costume to get past the bulldogs. Unfortunately, they don't fall for it.
  • Gone Horribly Right: In Sylvester's final attempt to get Tweety, he paints his back to make himself look like a skunk and scares the other dogs out. However, Pepé Le Pew comes racing in and starts smooching on Sylvester like there's no tomorrow.
  • Hope Spot: After all his ordeals, Sylvester's skunk ploy actually leads to him claiming Tweety. Then he gets grabbed by Pepé Le Pew.
  • I'll Never Tell You What I'm Telling You!: After hypnotizing the dogs into standing still, Sylvester tells Tweety that only he knows how to break them out of their trance. Tweety asks what it is, and Sylvester says, "You think I'd tell you it's a police whistle?" Tweety happens to have a police whistle, but Sylvester was ready and covers him with a drinking glass to block out the sound. Unfortunately, Tweety also has a hatpin...
  • Mass Hypnosis: After reading a book on hypnosis, Sylvester takes one look at the dogs charging him and they all freeze in place.
  • Out-Gambitted: Sylvester tries getting to the pole with an underground tunnel. The dogs anticipated this, dug their own tunnel, and waited for Sylvester to break through.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The bulldogs in response to a supposed skunk.
  • Shout-Out: Seeing Sylvester strap a rocket to his back, Tweety likens him to Buck Rogers.
  • Tempting Fate: Ahead of his stunt with the swing, Sylvester dares the barking dogs to try to stop him this time. Due to how long the ropes are, he swings within easy reach of the dogs.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After his dog disguise failed to fool the bulldogs, Sylvester runs away from the pound, only to then be caught by the dog catcher. The still disguised Sylvester is nervously looking back and forth, as the guy throws him back into the pound.
