Bossy Bear is an animated Preschool Show based on the books by David Horvath (who also created UglyDolls)
The series follows the misadventures of an overly-enthusiastic extrovert named Bossy Bear (Jayden Ham) and his bestie Turtle (Jaba Keh), a thoughtful introvert. Together, they make an unlikely duo who navigate their silly childhood adventures in the Koreatown-inspired city of Pleasantburg
The show also stars Claudia Choi as Bossy's mom and Gran-Gran, Shaun Baer as Bossy's dad and Viva Lee as Bissy, Bossy's sister.
It was first announced by Nickelodeon in April of 2022 and officially premiered on March 6th, 2023.
Bossy Bear contains examples of:
- A Boy, a Girl, and a Baby Family: Bossy (boy), Bissy (girl), and Cindy (baby).
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. While Bossy was more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold in the books, especially the first one, in this show he's much kinder. Most of his stints are based off of obliviousness than actual malice.
- Bilingual Bonus: Being based off of Korean heritage, the series contains many Korean phrases, one even being heard in the theme song.
- Embarrassment Plot: One episode focuses on Bossy trying to cheer up his sister after she embarrasses herself in front of her favorite band, Super Flock.
- Extreme Doormat: Turtle, especially in Just Say No.
- Raised by Grandparents: Turtle is raised by his grandmother.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Bossy is the red oni to Turtle's blue oni.
- Shout-Out: One episode is called, "Just Say No".
- Three Shorts
- Vocal Dissonance: Despite being six years old, Bossy and Turtle sound more like pre-teen boys, voice cracks and all. Justified since their voice actors are around that age.
- Waking Non Sequitur: Gran-Gran in "Happy Bestie-versary".I'm awake and ready to bake!
