This is a different type of Yuri.

Childhood Friend Yuri (?) or ''幼なじみ百合(?)/Osanajimi Yuri (?) is a yuri webcomic about a pair of childhood friends who reunited by chance at college, and gradually became a couple. It was published on Pixiv by Garun.

It was originally posted as a simple Yonkoma under title "Childhood Friend" July 14, 2017. One year later, on January 5th he published a 6-page oneshot, which the first page can be seen as main page here, expanding the mainline story of the single Yonkoma, and posted under the title it's known today. Few days after the oneshot was posted, another bonus page was posted from his twitter account.

You can read the Oneshot here.

Childhood Friend Yuri provides examples of:

  • Childhood Friend Romance: The very premise of this webcomic.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: The rather shy brunette Childhood Friend and the feisty light-haired (it's unclear if she's meant to be blonde, simply white-haired or other lighter colors due of the shading) Protagonist.
  • Happily Married: the Yonkoma version has the main couple marrying each other.
  • Kissing Discretion Shot: When both girls are about to kiss each other, the panel cuts with their speech bubbles with heart symbol on it.
  • Minimalist Cast: The only characters are the protagonist, her childhood friend, and group of thugs who harassed the childhood friend. Other character such as the childhood friend's bullies only appear in brief flashback scene.
  • Nameless Narrative: Being a dialogueless webcomic, none of characters is given a name.
  • Old Friend, New Gender: During their eventual reunion at college, The Protagonist initially shocked that a girl who greets her is turns out to be her childhood friend, that she remembers as a guy. The Childhood Friend then explains casually that she hasn't done bottom surgery yet.
  • Rescue Romance: In the oneshot version The Protagonist rescued The Childhood friend from a group of thugs who harassed her. She then fondly remembers on how she used to defend her from bullies during elementary school as she began to crushing on her.
  • Shout-Out: You can see a Hatsune Miku plushie in the protagonist's bedroom.
  • Silence Is Golden: Aside from usage of pictorial speech bubbles, this story is told without any dialogue at all. Not even onomatopoeia.
  • Trans Relationship Troubles: The Childhood Friend seems hesitant after her confessing to the protagonist, saying that she would not view her as a girl because she was born as a guy. Luckily the protagonist comforted her and saying that she is indeed a girl.
  • "Which Restroom?" Dilemma: The 7th bonus page on twitter has The Childhood Friend using public restroom for the first time. The Protagonist asked her if she wants to go to men's or women's, she became flustered and talks about how she once gets yelled at for using men's. The Protagonist then led her to the women's.
  • Yuri Fan: The Protagonist shown to be a fan of yuri manga, as she owns a stack of yuri manga on her bookshelf that The Childhood Friend immediately notices.
