AfterDeath
is a Dark Fantasy webcomic written and illustrated by James "Firgof" Woodall.
Voshim is the goddess of natural death, decay, and luck who wants to be more than the monsters that the mortals she reaps see her as. She sets out to do so and the story follows her journey to become 'more human than death'.
It began publication on January 17th, 2016.
AfterDeath provides examples of:
- Anthropomorphic Personification: The dieties of the world each have power over a set of three 'attributes' that ultimately make up reality which are called their 'Portfolio'. Voshim, for instance, has a portfolio of Natural Death, Decay, and Luck which conveys complete and total control over those attributes whenever she decides to intervene. The dieties have power enough to even exert control over those attributes with other Dieities. Pyros' portfolio includes Beauty, for instance, and so she could rob another diety of their beauty if she wished.
- Divine Parentage: Not only are there Physical Gods but they can bear children who gain their own portfolio which relates to their parents' portfolios. Pyros and Kerrno Vos are two children of the pantheon in this setting.
- Everybody Hates Hades: How the world views Voshim, with a dash of Bad Powers, Bad People, even though she actively destroys zombies, Necromancers, Liches, and all manner of undead horrors. However, considering how Obviously Evil she looks, from the twisted bone horns on her head, her empty and permanently shadowed eye sockets, her weird distorted voice, and glowing white embers for eyes it's hard to blame them - she doesn't do herself any favors.
- The Grim Reaper: Voshim is a Grim Reaper-like character who wields a Sinister Scythe and is responsible for all the natural death in the world (anything that wasn't murder or suicide).
