Tales Retold is a parody of events in the Paper Mario ROBLOX world, by main_gi. It continues a previous series in the same style called Tales from Paper Mario RP which shortened events that would happen in the server. Both series spoof both Roblox and roleplay tropes, while the latter also throws slight plot and story elements in.

Tales Retold contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Distillation: A part of all the episodes, but most in Episode 5, as a direct parody of a Roblox project that uses footage from the game.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!:
  • Author Avatar: Not so subtly with the W+L emblem Mario. Word of God says it more represents a skilled TTYD player.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": It's a parody of a Roblox roleplay. What did you expect?
  • Character Exaggeration: Pretty much every character in Episode 5.
  • Chirping Crickets
    • Characters don't even travel to "Crippling depression".
    • When the 'battle' is over in Episode 5, but everyone's still in the room.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Mostly the W+L Emblem Mario. Eventually needs a P-Up D-Down badge to distinguish himself from another character with the general same sprite.
  • Face Palm: "Rougeport".
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: W+L Emblem Mario, naturally.
    • To some extent also applies to other text on the screen.
  • Funny Background Event: Episode 5 contains a scene that's interrupted by an in-universe advertisement, but you can still interpret what happens.
    • In the same episode, Erth falls into a hole he just a few seconds ago warned the group to avoid.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Erth warns the group to not fall into an invisible hole. Guess what happens.
  • I Never Told You My Name: Subverted twice in Episode 5. The Mario roleplayer knows the name of the Bob-omb roleplayer (Boomer) by reading the nametag. Then another situation comes up with Goombella simply knowing Mario's name.
  • Medium Awareness: In the sense that each character's playing a game - namely, the Paper Mario Roleplay game.
    • Mario in Episode 5 uses the information from a character's nametag to call him by name before he even said it. The character tries to rescue it by asking how he knows, only to point out the nametag anyway.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Since the parody already has so many characters making spelling and grammar mistakes, actual game screenshots of the source material making typos had to be added.
    • To the static in the last part of Episode 4. In fact, all of the static was from another YouTube video.
  • Oh, Crap!: Happens to Color Splash Mario in Episode 3.
  • One-Steve Limit: Completely averted. The confusion is often a source of jokes.
  • Please Subscribe to Our Channel: Two of them in Episode 1.
  • Plot Hole: Bound to happen with so many roleplay plots making no sense.
    • In the original Tales from Paper Mario RP, all the toads are gods of some kind.
    • In Episode 5, characters compliment Koops for doing great in a battle. Bipi later points out he was never in the battle at all.
    • 2 hoktils
  • Running Gag: Literally.
    • People losing 5 HP for no reason.
    • The shotgun.
    • Toads being gods.
    • y
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: "Female Gamer17xx" in Episode 3.
  • Shout-Out: To The Rewind Chronicles music.
  • Spanner in the Works: WL Mario by far, but the blue Shy Guy and Bowser in Episode 3 also take a piece of the pie.
  • Stylistic Suck: Among other things, the most obvious is the Microsoft Sam voice is used for every character (with different pitches), as well as every character except a select few constantly making spellinge rrors.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: A minor one. In Episode 5, when the blue Shy Guy keeps getting cut out of the camera he eventually rants with text that covers the whole screen. Interface Spoiler by the font and pitch, though.
