WMG / Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

Go To

Root Head is probably going to be (or at least will become) the main Big Bad of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.
Given the fact that Root Head is confirmed to be in the anime and suggests that it has taken over Goshinboku from what we’ve seen in the trailer, I think it is going to be involved in the plot.
  • Okay, it's Jossed with the going to be part.

Inuyasha and Kagome may have created Rainbow Pearls (AKA the seven differently-colored Shikon No Tama-looking pearls) via how Midoriko did it.
Which may explain why they have disappeared and are currently not in the anime as of the time of this writing.
  • Jossed, sadly, since Inuyasha and Kagome were both trapped by the Black Pearl in episode 15 in a flashback. Outside of the Black Pearl that Hosenki the second has made, which was probably a rebuild of it. The truth is...
  • It is revealed in Episode 21 that in a 200 year flashback, the demon Zero created the seven Rainbow Pearls out of a wish from the Shikon Jewel from her tears due to the fact the Great Dog Demon died around that time.

Kikyo sealed Root Head instead of killing it because…
As seen in Episode 1 it’s a royal pain in the ass making sure you got all of it. Miss one tiny piece and it can regenerate From a Single Cell- er, twig. Kikyo may have blown it apart several times with her Sacred Arrow only for it to regenerate each time, so she sealed the demon so that it would stay in one inert piece and not come back for yet another round.
  • However, it came back for another round once Moroha and the twins traveled to the feudal era. Though eventually, the trio killed Root Head completely as of episode 4.

Towa and Setsuna's mother is…
Rin, of course! She’s pretty much the only human Sesshomaru can stand being around for long periods of time. 20 years are known to have passed since The Final Act and given that the twins are 14 Rin would have been 17 when Towa and Setsuna were born, which considering we are talking about the early-to-mid 16th Century definitely makes her old enough to be their mother. (plus Kaede is the one who actually raised her, with Sesshomaru visiting her fairly regularly, so he isn’t a Parental Substitute), there is also the interesting fact that Rin and Setsuna have the exact same hair color.
  • The ending of Episode 4 makes this ambiguous: Rin is inside the Tree of Ages in deep sleep while Sesshomaru watches from the shadows. If Rin is the mother, then he has a reason to prevent her dying from Death by Childbirth.
  • The manga makes Rin look like she's 5 or 6, so if she wasn't 8, she'd likely be even younger. This is the WMG section, however, so I'm leaving it here.
  • Confirmed as of Episode 15.

Towa and Setsuna will bicker over Culture Clash.
Due to the sisters living separately in two different eras (Modern Japan and Medieval Japan respectively), both of them will argue over the lives they live and criticize the other’s lifestyle (eg. Towa criticizes how terrible Medieval Japan is for a regular person to live especially if you're a peasant and a woman while Setsuna sees Modern Japan as weak for outlawing people to carry weapons and if she shares her father’s view on humans, is flabbergasted that human commoners rule the country and not the nobility or demons).

Towa will carry a smart phone.
This will ultimately lead to a humorous scene where she shows off her phone to Kagome who will be amazed by just how much things have changed in the modern era after she left it behind permanently and would realize that she would now be just as much a Fish out of Temporal Water in the modern era as she first was in the feudal era.
  • Confirmed. Towa does carry a smart phone and is shown as a minor plot point in episode 14, however, the whole plot of it basically gets discarded after the end of the episode. While Kagome is still trapped in the Black Pearl as of Episode 39...this WMG is fully confirmed now that Towa has finally met Kagome, and does actually show her what a smart phone is. (Despite it still having a charge.) Kagome does mention that back then, flip phones were used. Towa then show's pictures of Kagome's (and Sota's) family as of current as they are safe and sound, even after 14 years have passed.

Sesshomaru's human wife died as a result of Death by Childbirth.
We haven’t seen Towa and Setsuna’s biological mother yet, but the fact that we see the twins together but not their father and it implies Sesshomaru decides to grieve his own way after the death of his wife. After all, he would be in no mental condition to raise his own daughters, even if he wanted to.
  • Jossed. Episode 15 shows the twin’s mother to be alive. Further confirmed in Episode 27 as it wasn't really death by childbirth, but a curse inflicted to Rin by Zero. To which Sesshomaru and Jaken are using temporary measures to keep her alive. Rin is free of the curse as of episode 37.

Sesshomaru has his daughters' weapons commissioned after birth.
If one remembers what happened in the previous series, Sesshomaru is likely to have Totosai commission two weapons for his daughters specifically for their use, since he did witness Inuyasha becoming a full demon, and the Tessaiga is the only thing keeping him alive and sane. The same could be said with his daughters’ weapons and hopes the same thing won’t happen to them.
  • In "The Second Act" (Season 2), Totosai has forged the "Yukari no Tachikiri" for Setsuna, and Towa found the Kyuyokon root, which doubles as a flute and a sword known as the "Zanseiken". While not a forged weapon, Towa eventually acquires the real Kikujumonji for reals.

Mrs. Higurashi will quickly realize that Moroha is her granddaughter.
She’s known to be pretty observant, so as soon as she gets a good look at the quarter demon she would likely be quick to recognize both Kagome and Inuyasha in her.
  • This will lead to Moroha’s central character arc being her wanting to learn more about and ultimately reunite with her parents.
  • There is even a trope for this, Parents Know Their Children.
    • Confirmed: Mrs. Higurashi notices she looks similar to Kagome, and put two-and-two together.

Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Kagome ARE the Pearls.
This would definitely explain why they are nowhere to be found, especially since there is no way that Kagome at the very least would ever abandon her daughter unless she didn’t have a choice.
  • Jossed on Sesshomaru being one of the Pearls. However, Inuyasha and Kagome are technically in one of the pearls. The Black Pearl, however, Sesshomaru trapped them both in there. The truth though is that the seven Rainbow Pearls were made from a wish by the demon Zero.

Related to the above, there's some memory-wiping at work.
There are a lot of fishy things surrounding the original gang’s whereabouts and the remaining cast’s lack of memory. Moroha “never knew” her parents and Setsuna has no memory of her childhood; could be fair enough, Setsuna was young when she was separated from her sister, and Inuyasha and Kagome might have disappeared while Moroha was young, too. But in Episode 2, Towa mentions that she “doesn’t know” why she let go of Setsuna’s hand that moment in the forest. For something that kicked off the plot (it directly caused their separation) to apparently have been whimsical, or happenstance? For the matter, how are a pair of four-year-old half-demon girls able to survive happily and with no problem, with the demon-attracting Pearls in their eyes? It’s all a bit fishy.
  • So what if Towa's recount of what happened that day is false because someone or something tampered with her memories to remove key events, such as what really caused her to be separated from Setsuna? And, more so, what if that’s tied to why Setsuna lost all her memories and why Moroha doesn’t know her parents? Perhaps whoever went around tampering with memories also targeted memories of the original gang, and Moroha, Setsuna, and Towa actually did live with and know their parents. It would also explain why Kohaku and Hisui don’t recognize Moroha, despite their sister/mother being very close friends with her parents and Moroha wearing her dad’s Robe of the Fire Rat–they don’t remember Kagome and Inuyasha either.
  • Tying into the above theory, this could also explain how Setsuna and Towa got the Pearls in their eyes; their parents were with them in that forest fire, then were forcibly sealed/transformed into the Pearls with all memory of their parents subsequently erased, with something similar having happened to Inuyasha and Kagome.
  • Bringing back the above theory of Mrs. Higurashi quickly realizing that Moroha is her granddaughter, it’s clear that if all memory of Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshomaru (and the twins’ mother) were wiped, it wasn’t perfect as Sota easily figured out that Towa was from the past which he could only do if he remembered his sister, so perhaps one of the first clues that things aren’t what they seem could in conjunction with Setsuna’s memory problems come from the Higurashi’s recognizing Moroha as one of them upon getting a good look at the girl, after all, the simple fact that Moroha’s mother comes from the future indicates that there must be quite the story there and the idea that no one in the Feudal Era seems to know anything about that would be very suspicious.
  • There is also the fact that Yotsume mentioned Inuyasha by name and directly alluded to Kagome to Towa in Episode 1, so perhaps Yotsume had a hand (or wing) in whatever happened to the original cast, or perhaps the memory wipe only affected those who knew the characters personally.
    • Jossed: Episode 3 confirms that everyone who knew them still remembers the missing characters, though only Sesshomaru’s disappearance is given a potential explanation, and this doesn’t completely rule out the idea that memories regarding the missing characters were somehow altered. Jossed completely now as of episodes 38/39 as the original cast are all accounted for. While not alltogheter at the same time, for now. The only memory wiping was due to Setsuna and the Dream Butterfly, however, that's already taken care of.

Towa is going to find herself in possession of the real Kikujumonji at some point in the series.
Moroha points out that the Kikujumonji that Towa broke in Episode 2 is a fake. Not only does this imply that a real one exists, but being a named weapon recognized by someone from the past like Moroha all but guarantees that it’s of some importance.
  • Confirmed: Though only temporary, it was a sword that belonged to the lord from Episode 1 and she was simply tricked by Riku into accepting it so she would take the fall for stealing it. Eventually, she is given the real Kikujumonji for reals towards the end of Season 2 to stop Kirinmaru.

Root-Head is a Red Herring Big Bad.
Or maybe a Dragon to the real Big Bad. Root-head and its connection to the Tree of Ages is definitely a driving factor that is being used for the greater scheme, but that doesn't rule out the possibility that someone else caused the landslide that released Root-head from Kikyo's seal with the purpose of making Root-head serve them.
  • From what we've seen in Episode 1, Yotsume is involved somehow as well.
  • Seemingly confirmed in Episode 4 where the three girls end up killing it for good.

Moroha is wearing her dad's very own Fire Rat robe, and her backstory is a History Repeats of Inuyasha's.
Looking closer at Moroha's outfit shows it has a rather "cut and sown" appearance, not to mention how heavily it resembles her dad's Fire Rat robe. That's because it is the Fire Rat robe. Just like Inuyasha's father gave the robe to him as a baby to protect him and his mother before he died (as shown in the third movie), Inuyasha also gave the robe to baby Moroha and Kagome to protect them before he and later Kagome disappeared. Moroha may comment at one point that her earliest memory is waking up with a red robe wrapped around her, that she eventually sowed to fit herself. All along, she doesn't know she's been wearing her dad's robe that he gave her so she would survive.
  • Jossed, Moroha was sent away by her parents with Hachi's help only wrapped in a white blanket, and at the time Inuyasha was wearing his fire rat robe and he was trapped in the Black Pearl with it. The only possible explanation is if she had one forged while she was younger.

Moroha may have a older sibling.
I mean come on, Inuyasha and Kagome were married years before Moroha was born. So you can't deny the possibility that she may have an older sibling that she doesn't know about. But what happened to that older sibling is a big question.
  • If true, it would be a brother, as Kagome explicitly stated that she would give the rouge to their daughter.
    • Sadly jossed as of Episode 39. Their only child is still Moroha.

Kirinmaru has time travel powers, and has already been in the modern era.
Kirinmaru is Towa's English teacher, Osamu Kirin. Seems pretty suspicious to introduce two characters with "Kirin" in their name in the same episode. In addition, the latter also has an official character page on the official website—pretty sus for someone you'd think to be a minor side character. Also, the Sacred Tree did state that his plans would affect time.
  • Towards the end of Episode 22, it's slightly hinted to be so. With Osamu Kirin gazing at the Grim Comet in the modern era, and also appears right next to Sota and Mei.
    • Seems to be confirmed as of Episode 39, while not time travel powers, per se. Kirinmaru has mentioned his revelation about the Grim Comet in the modern era, and that his other self "Osamu Kirin" is there as well.

Moroha believes her parents abandoned her.
Episode 4 reveals that Moroha is at least aware of her mother's name, but that she still doesn't know her. Related to an above WMG, Moroha's earliest memory (after everything before was presumably wiped from her), is waking up abandoned with nothing but a red robe covering her. She heard from characters such as Kaede or Myoga what her parents' names were, but as their memories were also wiped of further details, it's all they could tell her. Moroha is thus convinced that Inuyasha and Kagome were no-good people abandoning her to fend for herself and is why she shows no apparent interest in learning more about them. Of course, it will turn out that deep down she is hurt not knowing where her parents are, or why they abandoned her, which will come out in a heart-to-heart the three girls eventually share between them, or something Moroha admits to herself in a moment of self-reflection.
  • Jossed, Word of God says Moroha believes her parents are dead. However, throughout the Second Act, she finds out her parents are still alive, lately with Sesshomaru giving Moroha the Black Pearl, although, forcefully taken by Kirinmaru. Moroha finally sees her parents as of Episode 38.

Kirinmaru is indirectly responsible for the disappearance of the original cast.
If Kirinmaru does have time travel powers then perhaps Inuyasha and co. headed off after him thinking they would only be gone for a little while only to end up trapped in a completely different historical era (possibly WWII, the industrial revolution or whatever event that caused Yokai to disappear). This would explain why they aren't around after all the only reason Kagome and Sango would ever abandon their respective kids without dying is if they were physically incapable of returning to them.
  • Slightly Jossed, the only thing he got involved was in a battle teaming with Sesshomaru against Inuyasha/Kagome in episode 15, however Sesshomaru has trapped both Inuyasha/Kagome in the Black Pearl. Everyone else is still alive, however, Shippo makes his return as of episode 39 (and also seen in the 4th opening).

Only Inuyasha is sealed away. Kagome is alive and well in a village somewhere, but her memories have been wiped.
According to Princess Kaguya from the second movie, Kagome is immune to time stopping spells. Whether this is a canon transferred to Yashahime or not, it might just be that Kagome isn't sealed away at all, and she's simply chilling as a miko in a village somewhere. Her memories of Inuyasha, Moroha and everyone else are gone, however, even the fact that she's from the future is lost on her. Moroha may even be revealed to have met Kagome at one point, but either she didn't know herself who she was, or if she did, then Kagome not recognizing her made Moroha get out of there quickly and decide not to "dwell" on it, figuring there was nothing she could do to make her mom remember when she barely knew her. While Inuyasha has to be saved from whatever seal he's under (again), Kagome needs rescuing in the form of returning her memories.
  • Half-Confirmed/Jossed, while Inuyasha being sealed away is correct, the part where Kagome isn't is false. Since otherwise both Inuyasha and Kamome were sealed in the Black Pearl by Sesshomaru in episode 15.

Setsuna and Towa are from the Future.
Well, the future of the past at least. Specifically they are from some years later in the Feudal era where something bad has happened to Rin and the others, causing Sesshomaru to send them back in time, and join in with Kirinmaru to change history. This explains how their ages don't seem to match up with what we see in the Prologue, because in the Feudal "present" they aren't born yet.
  • Jossed, considering time in both the Modern and Feudal eras take place in the same "timeframe" during the decade they were separated. To which Towa and Setsuna are of the same age from the past, and as of the current time during their journey in the feudal era. The things that happened to Rin were due to Zero, while Inuyasha and Kagome would have been from Kirinmaru, if not spared by Sesshomaru.

Koga and Ayame's kid will also be introduced at some point.
He/she and Moroha will, unlike their fathers, become friends, possibly even love interests. Because how ironic would that be?
  • Koga and Ayame do make an appearance, along with Moroha's mentor Yawaragi, in a quick flashback to them raising Moroha. But no children of their tribe have yet to be introduced, or even at all.

Moroha actually does care about her parents.
The reason for her apparent disinterest in learning about them is because she is deeply hurt that they were never around, and as a result has become something of a Stepford Smiler as a way to deal with the pain.
  • Jossed by Wordof God, stating that Moroha doesn't care about her parents because she thinks they're dead. Though, later within the Second Act, they are alive and well, but still inside the Black Pearl. Moroha eventually reunites with her parents as of episode 38.

The Big Bad is controlling the Dream Butterflies in some way.
Tying into the above memory wipe theory the real Big Bad is using the Dream Butterflies to achieve the effect, either by being able to directly control them, or by finding a way to capture and alter them by some other means.
  • Slightly Jossed, while it was a possible plot point in Season 1 that either both Zero and/or Kirinmaru had something to do with the Dream Butterfly. However, it was a spell casted by the Tree of Ages to hold Setsuna's memories in check with Rin.

For at least some time, Towa trained at the Tendo Dojo.
Some time in this season, or possibly next, she'll be busting some moves from Anything Goes (just physical moves, mind, no Ki Attacks) in front of this midget novice monk, called Happosai. This will inspire an odyssey of four centuries and counting in which he aspires in creating his own style. Also, Myoga will become a terrible influence on him.
  • Jossed, since in the 2 seasons into Yashahime, nothing crosses over from Rumiko Takahashi's other works.

Riku is from the modern-day era just like Towa.
After Riku ate the apple that Towa gave him, he describes it in English as the "forbidden fruit". He's supposedly from the feudal era yet he knows how to speak English. Also, mentioning "forbidden fruit" means that Riku might have been educated on the story of Adam and Eve.
  • Jossed, as of Episode 27, Riku was born in the feudal era from Kirinmaru's horn being cut by Toga from a 600 year battle.

Anyone Can Die is in effect.
  • Because Miroku is so far one of the original characters along with Sesshomaru to still be alive, something or someone is the reason why some of the original characters are gone. However, since Time Travel is involved in this series, the main trio will likely use the Tree of Ages to travel back in time and prevent the current events from happening.
Outside of Inuyasha and Kagome being trapped in the Black Pearl. The rest of the old cast, except for Shippo still not yet seen in the series, are still alive and well. However, this WMG is usually played straight, and averted at times. The only causalities so far is Zero, until she got revived, then Setsuna, until she too got revived, and then Rion, until she also got revived as well. And then again, Zero, but for good. And then later on with Towa, till she too got revived, and eventually Kirinmaru (and Osamu Kirin) and Rion one last time. Riku as well, but he eventually gets better and got revived.

The girls will be Retconned out of existence.
  • If the above is true that Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha have to go back in time to save the original cast, they will be erased and replaced with new versions who grew up with their parents.
  • Alternatively the Tree of ages will let them keep their memories of the old timeline, in addition to gaining ones from their new past. It will also turn out that Towa ended up in the modern era regardless of any other factors.
  • Jossed entirely...

Sesshomaru is The Atoner.
  • Given what little we know that happened to Rin, it's possible that Sesshomaru is the reason most of the original characters except Miroku and Kirara are not around. It's possible the reason for Rin's condition was the result of Death by Childbirth, and Sesshomaru was desperate enough to revive her and made a deal with Kirinmaru for two Rainbow Pearls for his daughters, but in exchange, he has to defeat Inuyasha in battle. But after realizing what he has done, he discovers the Tree of Ages, and in order to revive Rin, he must have one of his daughters lose her memories and the other gets sent to Reiwa Era Japan. But realizing he went far again, he specifically wants not only his own daughters to defeat him, but also Moroha.
  • Part of Episode 27 basically confirms that Rin's condition wasn't death by childbirth, but a curse inflicted by Zero, to which, if anything happens to Zero, also happens to Rin too. Temporary measues have her put in the Tree of Ages to keep her from slowly dying, along with Jaken tasked to seal Setsuna's memories away while she was a young child. She gets better as of Episode 38.

Kirinmaru isn't the actual villain.
  • Riku is, with whatever he's obviously planning. Moreover, in that flashback where Takechiyo saw Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru approaching Inuyasha and Kagome to attack them wasn't an actual attack but only a meeting that led to some long term play from the older generation in response to whatever Riku is up to.
  • Jossed apparently... It was still Kirinmaru all along. But Riku gets better towards the end of Season 2 though.

Towa and Setsuna's mother is Kagura.
So the producers have told the viewers to "pay attention to details", and in another article that "foreshadowing is everywhere", as well as indicating along with Rumiko that the mother is meant to be a mystery. This leaves some interesting observations to be had. Now, the very first shot of Yashahime shows Towa sitting in a robe identical to that of the infant (the baby offspring of Naraku that Kagura would carry around), with the next shot showing Towa's face with hidden eyes, which made many wonder if she was the infant for a second. As a child, Towa had a ponytail identical to Kagura's. Her eyes have a red-like hue, and even as a human, they remain a burgundy-like color that differs from Rin's color. The red streak in her hair does not disappear, which it definitely should have if it came from Sesshomaru, giving the impression her and Setsuna's red streak comes from a different source. Setsuna has wind powers, and her "Moon of the resting moth" attack is performed with the exact same motion as Kagura's "Dance of the dragon" (mirroring Moroha's attacks coming from both her parents - so does the twins' attacks). Kagura being their mother would also explain similarities they share with Naraku and his other offspring. Setsuna shares many physical similarities to Byakuya, right down to her eye color. She wields a Naginata, the same weapon as Hakudoushi. It would also explain why they are more demon than Moroha, and yet have less demon features than her - they have genetics from Naraku, where many of his offspring had very human appearances.

As for the girls being hanyous, either the way the term is used in the show leaves it vague enough to mean "part demon" rather than specifically "half", or the show is intentionally being misleading i.e. it's a Red Herring. Naraku himself was half-demon, and Kagura is described as his "doppelganger", while voice actors refer to her as having "a human heart". Kagura being the mom would make Towa and Setsuna 3/4 demons, and Towa (and Setsuna?) would still have human nights as Naraku himself had them.

Now there is the issue that Kagura is, well... dead. How could she possibly be the mother then? Two factors speak in her favour; one, several characters in Inuyasha, including Rin twice, died and came back to life. The universe of this world has clearly established that resurrection is a thing. Second, several of the villains the three girls have been fighting now in Yashahime are villains that were already killed in Inuyasha, so why and how are they back? Not to mention, they are villains that were killed close to the time that Kagura died. We're dealing with either resurrection, or a time warp - perhaps Kirinmaru is responsible for time being rewinded to before many of these characters died, with Kagura eventually revealed as one of them. Whatever way it was done, Yashahime's producers wouldn't have to look far for a way to bring her back - not when so many characters in Inuyasha and now in this sequel did.

  • Jossed as of Episode 15.

Kagura's soul was split (somehow) in two and reincarnated as both Towa and Setsuna as a result.
Woudn't be out of the ordinary, though nothing confirms traits of Kagura in the twins so far. That, and their mother being Rin anyways.
  • Having something mystical involved in them beyond simply being half-demons would also explain why they have distinctive red streaks in their hair that can't be logically linked in any way to either Sesshoumaru or their mother.

Yashahime will end with the principle cast living in modern Tokyo.
Episode 15 introduced the Grim Comet, a demonic comet that comes every 500 years. It already had an arrival in the past so this means it is due to arrive in modern day Tokyo. This will inevitably result in the principle cast going to the future to stop the Comet.

Once matters are settled, Moroha, Towa, and Setsuna will choose to remain in modern Tokyo instead of the past. As such their parents will remain with them and those who were not born in Tokyo (Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and Rin) will acclimate to modern life quickly and surprisingly well, albeit with the occasional comedic misunderstanding.

With "The Second Act" ended, a possibility that it could lead to a story where The Magic Comes Back and the modern world learn about the existence of demons. Sadly, it is jossed, as the trio does not return back to the modern era, and instead are going on a training arc in the feudal era.

If the above is true and Kagome returns to the modern era she will once again find herself as a Fish out of Temporal Water
By this point, Kagome has spent more time in the Feudal Era (including her time locked away in the Border to the Afterlife) than she has in her own era and technology has advanced a lot since she left to marry Inuyasha, back then smartphones weren't a thing and the internet was little more than a novelty. it would be fun to see her reaction to the how the modern era has changed over the last two decades.
  • While sadly the above is jossed. Kagome does react to Towa's Smartphone in episode 39 (though still trapped inside the Black Pearl...until she got out anyways).

Zero is the Dream Butterfly, or at least is connected to it in some way.
If one looks closely, her hairpiece is shaped like butterfly wings, and her outfit has a butterfly motif as well. Coincidence?
  • Jossed, while the similarities are there, Zero had nothing to do with them much in any way, shape or form, considering... The Dream Butterfly was a spell used by the Tree of Ages to keep Setsuna's memories within Rin.

Kirinmaru lost his right eye (and perhaps also part of his face) in a past altercation with the Great Dog Demon.
Kirinmaru's mask lacks an eyehole for his right eye, which might imply that said eye is blinded or missing or otherwise unusable. Additionally, during his battle with the trio, after Towa lands a hit on his face, he muses that this was to be expected of the Great Dog Demon's granddaughter and Sesshoumaru's daughter. This seems like an unusual comment to make at the time, unless Kirinmaru previously fought, and was hit by, Toga in roughly the same location. Given the the latter's power, however, he would've likely done much more damage to Kirinmaru compared to Towa. Perhaps Toga blinded Kirinmaru in his right eye and possibly also took out a good portion of his face, hence the latter's need for a mask to hide those injuries or scars.
  • As of ep. 24, this is Jossed. It's revealed that the right side of his face is covered in scales, which is why he wears the mask. His right eye is otherwise perfectly fine. However, episode 3 of season 2 reveals that Kirinmaru and Toga did in fact have a previous battle, with the latter having severed off one of Kirinmaru's horns.

Zero is the true Big Bad of Yashahime.
Seeing as Kirinmaru seems largely uninterested in the prophecy and is rather underwhelmed when he finally faces the trio in combat. After all, it was Zero who created the Rainbow Pearls, she ordered Homura to burn down the forest that the twins were in when they were four, and she was responsible for undoing the seal on Setsuna’s demon powers and causing her to go berserk.
  • Jossed, sadly, while her intentions seeking revenge of Half-Demons would have worked if not for... (As of Episode 37) A red thread that was chained to Towa, which reminded her of Toga, to which Setsuna severed, and was able to shed tears again. With a change of heart, she removed the red thread and the silver scale curse from Rin, but is slain by Riku and passes on peacefully. Kirinmaru was still the true big bad of the series.

Timey-Wimey stuff will happen at the end of the series to negate the adventure.
The Seven Rainbow Pearls will eventually be used to prevent the events of the series from ever happening. It might be the result of the villain trying to go back in time to acquire the Shikon Jewel before it was destroyed. It might be from one of the three half-demon princesses to re-live their childhoods with their parents this time. Heck, it might be some unexpected minor character wishing that Roothead never escaped, because this lead to a tragedy for them (or maybe even Root-Head himself, still somehow alive in a bid for victory). Either way, the final scene of the series will be Kagome looking after little Moroha and thinking about how peaceful things are, like she did in the first episode.
  • Jossed, none of this actually happens. The Seven Rainbow Pearls were all absorbed by Zero, and disappeared entirely after Zero's death. While things do get better and go back to normal for a little while after Kirinmaru's defeat, the trio goes on a training arc.

There is some Royalty Dispute with the original characters.
Trying to figure out a reason as to why this series seemed to go out of its way to exclude the cast from the Original Series. Their own children not caring what happened to them and convoluted reasons as to why they cannot meet up. The the original author got royalties anytime they were used, and the show's producers were too cheap.
  • Jossed as of episode 39, since now all of the original characters, while not all together right now, have at least been in an episode or 2 that have appeared, this also includes the return of Shippo as well.

Towa and Setsuna will have a training arc.
The sisters will try to find a way to master their respective full-demon forms; without the need for a seal for Setsuna, and without entering a heightened emotional state for Towa.
  • Confirmed, the last episode of Season 2 has the trio trying to get stronger. With Riku accompanying them, since he got better.

The reason why Kirinmaru wants to control time...is because he wants to go back in time and prevent Rion's death.
Episode 37 reveals that Kirinmaru hates half-demons because his daughter Rion was murdered by one 6 centuries ago; a death that was completely preventable had he not ignored the multiple warnings to not to bring a child to the battlefield. He was never able to accept his loss, hence why he had her spirit sealed within Mount Musubi to keep her from ascending to the afterlife. He believes that by getting a hold of Akuru's pinwheel, he will be able to change the past save his daughter.
  • Jossed. Kirinmaru's reason for wanting to transcend time is to stop the Grim Comet from destroying the Modern World, so he will be seen as a hero. However, it is also revealed that he had placed a curse on the Zanseiksen, causing it to drain the kon of its wielder (Towa) in order to give Rion a new body for her spirit to reside in.

Towa will use the apple seed Riku kept to plant a new tree as a memento should the latter die.
Riku has held onto a seed from an apple he ate on the day he first met Towa. It is also revealed that should Kirinmaru die, Riku will also die as he is an incarnation born of the former’s severed horn. If/when Kirinmaru is finally defeated, Riku will give Towa the seed as a parting gift and tell her to plant it in the ground before she returns to the modern era, so that she will have a new tree to remember him by.
  • Jossed. It's Riku himself who plants the seed.

Kirinmaru will become the Disc-One Final Boss, with Kirin becoming the main antagonist after the latter uses the Grim Comet to overpower the former.
Kirin, after stopping the Grim Comet with the help of the girls, intends to use the Grim Comet to eliminate every demon in existence (regardless of whether or not they committed evil deeds or not) so humanity can prosper, and Rion can live a happy life. Kirin actually succeeds in overpowering his creator and becomes the primary threat that Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha have to stop before he kills off every innocent demon in the Feudal Era, as well as destroy the Grim Comet entirely before it causes irreversible damage.
  • Confirmed, however its more of a 2 way situation, and a reversal as well. Osamu Kirin does become the main atagonist at some point. But is essentially defeated by Towa and Riku. The Grim Comet eventually becomes the Grim Butterfly that they have to deal with. Kirinmaru and Rion (controlled by the butterfly) both essentally become main atagonists, until they have a change of heart and pass on peacefully.

The English dub having a seven week gap between episodes 36 and 37 is because of the Canadian voice actors.
No official reason for the stall in the (previously weekly) release of dub episodes after the first half of season two. Of the three services carrying the show, only Crunchyroll even gave the date of return: Friday, March 25th 2022. One day before the finale airs.

The theory is that, unlike the short turnaround time for the American voice actors, it's likely that the returning Canadian actors have to be scheduled well in advance for anything more than the one-or-two line appearances they put in after episode one. With the last quarter of the show featuring substantial appearances from the original cast, they likely had to wait until all the episodes were shipped so that recording and ADR could be scheduled in as few blocks as possible (once they knew how much work would be needed for the returning cast).

  • This troper thinks it could be a possibility with scheduling and all. Either way, the Season 2 English dub is still continuing, at least.
