Pre-release theories

Future Targets:
The game's hasn't been released yet, so there's still room for speculation.
  • Olivia Hall will be one. After all, she was a major player in tricking the ICA into doing the Shadow Client's dirty work.
    • Jossed. She and the Shadow Client are now allies with Diana and 47.
  • John Highmoore, he is clearly shady given IAGO wanted info on him. They wouldn't spy on him if they weren't enemies of the family.
    • IAGO spies on all major power players regardless of affiliation. Information brokering was their trade, after all.
    • Jossed.
  • Alma Reynard. She'll probably team up with the Shadow Client to avenge her boyfriend's death, only to be killed herself.
    • Confirmed, Reynard is the first target of the game.
  • Someone in the Delgado family. They were mentioned several times in the game (most notably in the Paris briefing) and one guard in the Sapienza ruins even mentions somebody by the name of "Rico Delgado" by name.
    • Confirmed. The targets in the Colombia mission are the three leaders of the Delgado cartel, one of them being Rico Delgado, nephew of Fernando Delgado from Blood Money, whom rebuilt the cartel after 47 murdered his uncle and cousin.
  • Jin Po, whom 47 will probably be contracted to kill by a friend or relative of one of the protesters killed in the Tungan Valley incident.
    • Jossed.
  • At least one person affiliated with Crystal Dawn.
    • Jossed.

The Shadow Client is
  • A 48 clone.
    • Jossed.
  • Otto Ort-Meyer's biological son.
    • Jossed.
  • Mr. X from Hitman 2.
    • Jossed.
  • A clone of Otto Ort-Meyer himself.
    • Jossed.
  • The tie-in comic Birth of the Hitman, which explores 47's adventures as a young man, implies that the Shadow Client is Subject 6, one of 47's fellow Ort-Meyer creations.
    • Confirmed.

A surviving Mr. 48 appears
  • Providence, knowing about Ort-Meyer's cloning experiments, found a single surviving clone either during or after the SWAT raid, and reveals 47's origins to Diana. In a bit of Foreshadowing, the game's release date is 48 days from the end of the year instead of 47.
    • Jossed.

Colombia's "Joke" Disguise(s)
That is, assuming it follows the pattern and has at least one.

Other "Joke" Disguises

In-game theories

Mark Faba will return
His codename is the Undying and he's infamous for surviving multiple assassination attempts. At some point he'll return and you have to kill him again in another location.
  • Confirmed.

One of the expansions takes place in Sweden
IOI has a tendency to foreshadow future events through minor details in the levels. One potential thing being foreshadowed is in the news reports in "Another Life", which mentions a Climate Summit in Kiruna, Sweden. This article is notable because among the series of reports made by the TV reporter, it's the only one that mentions a location and is completely unrelated to either Whittleton Creek or previous events in the series, and is the only one to mention a very specific event and location.
  • Jossed.

The new Constant would be appointed by the end of the The Resort mission
  • Jossed.

One of the targets in the The Resort mission will be armed
For either being a bodyguard or head of security.
  • Jossed. The targets are the CEO, the hostess and the IT expert, none armed.

The target in the "A Bitter Pill" expansion is a serial killer or hitman.
  • Jossed. It's a businessman.

Season 2 Elusive Targets and their locations
  • As stated above, Mark Faba again. He will be the final Elusive Target and you'll eliminate him at the Isle of S'gail as he's carrying out a contract against/for Providence.
    • Jossed. Jimmy Chen is the final target. However, the Isle of Sgail is the final location for the Elusive Target.
  • The Censor, a serial killer mentioned in a news broadcast in Whittleton Creek. He or she has been targeting people in Vermont, so you'll likely be hired to stop them as they prowl Whittleton Creek. It'll be possible to get them to encounter Helen West, which will possibly be part of an opportunity. Alternatively, the Censor will be the target of a Bonus Mission in Whittleton Creek that takes place at sunset or night.
    • Confirmed, although he has no interactions with West.
  • Timothy Olyphant and Rupert Friend. Either a dual assassination or let the fanbase choose which film/actor they liked better.
    • Jossed.

Ghost Mode is actually a new ICA training program
Similar to the multiplayer in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Ghost Mode is a way to train ICA Agents. Using VR technology they can assume the role of legendary Agent 47 and learn his skills while competing against each other.

The Constant works for the same organization as the G-Man from Half-Life, with the Hitman world being a different dimension
Like the G-Man the Constant manipulates powerful people behind the scenes while directing one man into changing the world, and also speaks oddly and looks like a corpse. "Arthur Edwards" is just a red herring to keep 47 and Diana from learning the truth.

A future piece of Hitman media (book, film, TV series) will adapt Mark Faba's character

"Mark Faba" is a codename
Be it for Alec Trevelyan or not.

Knight and Stone are ICA agents Davenport and Swan
Who were mentioned in the Overachievers side story and by Mark Faba.
  • Jossed in Hitman 3. Davenport and Swan are both among the agents who are sent after 47 and they do not remotely resemble Knight and Stone.

Zoe and Sophia Washington were killed in the "Last Honors" and "Social Climbing" mission stories respectively
Blake Nathaniel and Jebediah Block are too high-profile and close to Sophia to impersonate well, and while kicking her off the ledge would have resulted in her bringing her kill switch with her, 47 already had the one from Zoe. Attending his mentor's funeral and seeing what ungrateful, snobbish twats the Washingtons and the Partners are also sparks an epiphany in the Constant, who would more eagerly take revenge on them.

Janus is a Trotskyite
He offhandedly quotes Trotsky, bemoans the West in spite of his defecting to it, and is quite clearly still nostalgic for the Soviet Union; fear of getting purged might be why he left the Soviet Union, though how much of this is him being an actual communist and not just old-person navel-gazing is up in the air given that he once led a world alliance of elitist plutocrats.
