One of these things is not like the other...

Mario, Luigi & Gary is a Super Mario fangame create by Rogonandi.

It's an ordinary day for the Mario Brothers, until an underwear-clad stranger emerges from a dimensional warp in their toilet. Gary, an auto mechanic from New York, is tasked by Rosalina to save the Mushroom Kingdom from the reemerging threat of the Dark Star.

Doubles as a Mary Sue Fan Fiction and a sequel of sorts to the more plot-heavy installments of the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series' from Nintendo, with a strong emphasis on story and Continuity Porn.

The game can be downloaded for free here.

Mario, Luigi & Gary contains examples of:

  • As Long as There Is Evil: Rosalina says this almost word for word regarding the Dark Star.
  • Berserk Mode: Wiggler is docile in random encounters, at first. But once struck, it Turns Red and can deal multiple punishing attacks in a turn.
  • Continuity Porn: Lovingly indulged in, to the point of including characters from the handheld Mario Sports titles in the plot, and making Arcade-era character Stanley the Bugman a major party member, and the main romantic interest.
  • Cool Airship: Bowser and his minions employee these, as is typical for the series. They even have his or his children's faces as figure heads!
  • Distressed Dude: Stanley becomes this in the final act, after being kidnapped by Susan.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Dark Star. Merlon even uses the word "eldritch" to describe it. Gary also theorizes Rosalina might be the illusory avatar for a "Cosmic Horror."
  • Eldritch Location: The Mushroom World itself is a Lighter and Softer example. It’s a nice place, but humans drawn there by the warp nexus slowly forget their original lives.
  • Face Palm: Ashley pulls these whenever annoyed by Gary or Stanley. Which is almost constantly.
  • Freudian Trio: Gary, Stanley, and Ashley can be seen as this. Ashley, the id, is unrestrainedly rude, while Stanley, the superego, is the most sensitive and moralistic of the party members. Gary, the balancing ego, is generally carefree and tolerates both without effort, but is not afraid to step in and moderate if either of them crosses a line.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Stanley claims to be the best equipped to deal with a creepy forest in Dark Land. His combat performance against the local enemies proves it.
  • Giant Spider: The Piders and variants of it are this. Kamek uses his magic to make one grow even larger.
  • Guide Dang It!: The answer to why Luigi doesn’t like Stanley is only revealed in a missable scene if you happen to visit Stanley’s house between chapters 6 and 7.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: There are points where the characters acknowledge being part of a video game.
Red: You're outta the game, Luigi! At least for now... I'm sure you'll turn up again sometime later.
  • Save the Princess: Shockingly, Bowser kidnaps Peach early in the game. Most of the Toads are fairly blasé about the incident, being so used to it.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Susan is this towards Gary. Breaking into his house while he's away is only the beginning. She has her own Stalker Shrine with portraits of him, and is willing to use force to try to make him hers.
