Trivia / Southpaw Regional Wrestling

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Daniel Bryan as René Beret and his Arch-Enemy Dan Bandana.
    • The Ascension play the Surf Dudes with Attitude and the Top Guns/Danger Zone, though its possible those are the same wrestlers under different gimmicks, as they're in separate seasons
  • Cast Incest: Rusev and Lana, who are married in real life, play Big Bartholomew and his cousin Christian Joy, respectively. Parodied in that Big Bartholomew and Christian Joy are implied to be Kissing Cousins.
  • Corpsing: Big Bartholomew (Rusev) doesn't even bother to hide his shit-eating grin when his skits get out of hand.
  • The Danza: Lana (real name: Catherine Joy Perry) plays Big Bartholomew's cousin, Christian Joy, while Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra) plays Chad 2 Badd. Also, AJ Styles (Allen Jones) playing car salesman Malibu Al in season 2, Dolph Ziggler (Nicholas Nemeth) as a heavy metal drummer Nicci Lee Styxxx, as well as Bryan "Daniel Bryan" Danielson as Dan Bandana.
  • Defictionalization: WWE has begun selling Southpaw t-shirts on their webstore, and Fandango and Tyler Breeze dressed up as their characters as an April Fool's gag at Wrestlemania Axxess.
  • Fake American: Tyler Breeze (Mr Mackelroy), Renee Young (Susan Chetterfield) and Chris Jericho (Clint Bobski) are Canadian, while Rusev (Big Bart) is Bulgarian.
  • Fake Nationality: American Daniel Bryan plays Frenchman René Béret, while Mexican La Barba Grande is played physically by American Luke Harper and voiced by Colombian Carlos Cabrera (of WWE's Latin-American Spanish announcing team).
  • Hey, It's That Sound!: The steel guitar sting accompanying the Malibu Al's Car Emporium graphic in Season 2 Episode 1 is "Hawaiian Link (A)", the same used in many episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The Season 3 announcement video was released on February 29, 2020. One of the big storylines of Season 1 was the promotion's event Lethal Leap Year, to be held on February 29... only to be revealed later that the season takes place in 1987, which is not a leap year and thus does not have a February 29.
  • Quietly Cancelled: While a third season was announced for a Summer 2020 release, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and WWE releasing several stars (many who are key characters, including Chett's actor Fandango, on which the Season 3 announcement video was centered on), no other announcement has been made in regards to this series.
  • Spiritual Successor: Had one in Impact Wrestling's "Impact Provincial Wrestling Federation". Impact actually went a step further by hosting an actual episode of their TV show Impact! with their characters. Frank the Butcher even appeared, having "jumped territories" and asking his old tag team partner to come join him.
