  • Creator Backlash: Lindsay Lohan, who has a Remake Cameo in the film, was reportedly unhappy with the "fire crotch" joke made at her expensenote . To quote Lohan's rep, she "was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film".
  • Cut Song: Several songs from the stage production have been cut from the film: "It Roars" (replaced with "What Ifs"), "Where Do You Belong?", "Fearless", "Stop", "Whose House is This?", "More is Better", and "Do This Thing". "Meet the Plastics" has been cut down to just Regina's verses. Most of the reprises have also been cut, with the "Stupid with Love" reprise being used in a different context in place of "Do This Thing".
  • The Danza:
    • Ashley Park plays a teacher called Madame Park.
    • In the Latin Spanish dub, Regina George is voiced by Regina TiscareƱo.
  • Dawson Casting: All of the high school-aged characters are played by actors who are college-aged in real life. The oldest in the main cast was Christopher Briney, 24 during filming, and the youngest was Avantika, 18, a couple of years older than 16-year-old Karen.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The film was released on DVD on April 30, 2024, the 20th anniversary of the original.
  • Production Posse: Busy Philipps also stars in another Tina Fey-led project, Girls5eva (which features members of the Broadway cast of Mean Girls, including Ashley Park).
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jaquel Spivey loves Damian as a character, and considers him a huge childhood inspiration. He even got to meet Daniel Franzese himself!
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor:
    • Janis is explicitly queer in this version of the story, and is played by openly bisexual actress Auli'i Cravalho.
    • Damien is also gay and played by gay actor Jaquel Spivey.
  • Recursive Adaptation: Started as the 2004 movie, then the stage musical and back to this movie.
  • Role Reprise: Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall, respectively, from the original movie. ReneĆ© Rapp also played Regina in the stage musical. Patricia Hannidez even reprised Ms. Norbury in the Latin Spanish dub.
  • What Could Have Been: Tina Fey considered having the Burn Book no longer be a book at all, but her daughters convinced her otherwise.
  • Word of Gay: As stated by the actors.
    • Renee Rapp, who's openly lesbian, has stated that she thinks Regina is a closeted lesbian who's in love with both Cady and Janis.
    • Avantika has stated that she views Karen as pansexual.
  • You Look Familiar: Lindsay Lohan previously portrayed Cady Heron in the original movie. Now, she returns playing the Mathletes moderator.
