Shout Out / Dead Ahead Zombie Warfare

Go To

  • Several units are based off of characters from other media.
    • Pepper was heavily inspired by Judy Hopps from Zootopia. She is a road patrol officer with grey hair representing Judy's fur, and her outfit is nearly identical to the Judy's uniform as well. She's very agile, (shown with her roll dodges) and her deleted backstory is very similar to the early plot of the movie.
    • Glenn is Glenn from The Walking Dead comics and TV show, based off of his early appearances. And the inspiration of his self-revival ability after dying? Making fun of him having Plot Armor in his home franchise. With his flavor text playing into that, being "He was always hard to kill.".
    • Sonya is Sonya Blade from the Mortal Kombat franchise.
    • Builder Abby is Abby Anderson from The Last of Us Part II.
    • Queen is Harley Quinn.
    • Austin is Nathan Steele, a.k.a. Dallas of The PAYDAY series. He wears a mask with an American flag print design and exaggerated face, and the bus paint from his pack gives the bus the same pattern and design of the getaway van from PAYDAY.
    • Turbo is Apple, the deuteragonist of the film Turbo Kid. The bat Turbo uses in this game uses the color pallet of her weapon from the film.
    • Lester is Lester Nygaard from the first season of the TV show Fargo, described as a white-collar worker.
  • The Witch is a dangerous blonde-haired female zombie with torn clothes, and is an extremely fast runner. She's said to be inspired from the zombie of the same name from the Left 4 Dead series, who is surprisingly agile and threatening despite her size. Her appearance in the original Dead Ahead however names her "Banshee".
  • The first enemy waiting for you in Location 3 is the Robber. Upon entering Mission 31, he shouts “You shall not pass!”.
  • A few of the skins give the units outfits that reference other media.
    • All college team outfits are high school uniforms that resemble those from The Faculty. Builder's skin's name is also a reference to the movie's release date, being called "1998".
    • Clown Chopper references Pennywise from the horror novel It, specifically the clown's design from the 2017 and 2019 film adaptations.
    • Glenn Pines, Nurse Hirsch, and Carol Flannel are based off of Dipper Pines, Mabel Pines, and Wendy Corduroy from Gravity Falls respectively.
    • Dr. Sanchez for Saw is a direct reference to Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty.
    • Technician Bosco for Soldier is named after Bosco Albert "B.A." Baracus from The A-Team.
