Recap / Wakfu S1E26 "Mount Zinit"

Go To

The battle between the Brotherhood of the Tofu and the mad Xelor Nox has reached its peak, and the madman is about to complete his plans and absorb the immense Wakfu reserves of the Tree of Life, the last step of his plans of time travel. Will Yugo have the strength to end his threat and save the Sadida people?

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Nox has spent 200 years gathering Wakfu for his time travel plan, committing thousands of crimes and killing even more people. Even with the Wakfu of the Tree of Life and the Eliacube, he's only able to rewind the time of the entire Krosmos for 20 minutes, meaning that all his efforts were for nothing at all.
Nox: All the Wakfu gathered in 200 years... FOR TWENTY MISERABLE MINUTES!?
  • Bittersweet Ending: In the end, the Sadida are saved, the Eliacube is recovered and Adamai and Yugo can use it to find a way to look for the remaining Eliatropes. Also, despite Dally's death, Eva swears to make his name go down in legend.
  • Can't Live Without You: As the Tree of Life is deprived of Wakfu, all the Sadida transform into trees as they die.
  • Darkest Hour: Sadlygrove's dead, then Nox drains the Tree of Life, killing all the Sadida (even Amalia), and Yugo's only attempt at stopping him sends the entire clock to Mount Zinit, leaving him alone with Nox, who now wants to add his Wakfu to the Eliacube.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before Yugo can deal the final blow to Nox, he's distracted by Ogrest, who's roaring from the mountaintop.
  • Foreshadowing: By touching the Eliacube, Yugo seemingly subconsciously teleports the Clock of Nox to Mount Zinit. Season 2 reveals that the Zinit is actually the giant spaceship used by the Eliatropes to travel to the planet which would become the World of 12, while the climax of the OVA takes place on Mount Zinit, and sees Dally and Yugo fighting Ogrest.
  • Graceful Loser: After his breakdown, Nox simply rises up one last time, bides a morose farewell to Yugo and disappears, leaving the Eliacube behind.
  • Heroic BSoD: Eva, already in deep despair due to Dally's death, looks even more broken when Amalia turns into a tree in front of her eyes.
  • Hope Spot: When the Time travel ends, Yugo and Adamai hopes that they got back enough to avert Sadlygrove's death. Unfortunately, it's not the case...
  • Move in the Frozen Time: Yugo one-ups even Grougaloragan in this episode thanks to the Eliacube Super-Empowering. Even Grougal was temporarily halted by Nox's time-freeze spell before breaking free, but Yugo is still moving (albeit heavily slowed) while the spell is in effect, which Nox declares to be impossible/incredible, and that's before he accelerates in the frozen time when Nox tries to kill him.
  • Phlebotinum Overload: It's likely helped by the still-unrepaired damage the clock had previously received from Grougaloragan's Suicide Attack, but one of the Grambos inside the clock notes the amount of Wakfu from the Tree of Life is overloading the systems. Nox, since he intends his upcoming time jump to be a one-way trip anyways, is only concerned with making sure the clock stays together long enough to get every last drop of Wakfu before firing off the spell.
  • Reset Button: Nox believes that if his time-travel works, every atrocity he committed will be undone. The good news is, he was right. The bad news is, the reset button covers only the events of the last 20 minutes, averting the Sadida genocide, but not all the other deaths, like Dally's.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • In the end, Amalia mentions to Yugo that Adamai wants to talk to him about using the Eliacube and the Dofus to look for the other Eliatropes, though Yugo is afraid to end up like Nox if he does so.
    • A sharp-eyed viewer will notice that strangely Dally Disappears into Light when he dies and thus there is No Body Left Behind. Even more importantly, the fact that Rubilax has also vanished despite giving no indication he died either.
  • Skyward Scream: Prince Armand, as his entire army and his father die in front of him.
  • Super Mode:
    • Adamai assumes his Crackler form for extra muscle to wail on Nox, though it doesn't help for long when Nox blasts him away and unconscious.
    • Upon touching the Eliacube, Yugo gets a surge of energy that allows him to teleport the entire clock to Mount Zinit and overpower Nox, who absorbs energy from the Eliacube himself to match it, in combat.
  • Super-Speed: During the final battle against Nox, Yugo's powers are enhanced, to the point that even when Nox freezes time to strike him Yugo is still moving, albeit slowly, and eventually manages to break through and accelerate when the time-freeze is still active.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Near the end, Yugo stops lambasting Nox and his obsession over the Eliacube when he sees the broken Xelor crouched on his knees, a stream of tears running from beneath his mask, and when the Sadida guards shows up he actually stops them from attacking Nox.
  • Taking a Third Option: In a way: Nox is sure that the Eliacube will allow him to rewind the time of the entire Krosmos, while Grougaloragran warns him that it's impossible and he will only destroy the world. In the end, the time travel works but for only 20 minutes, which makes both parties right, from a certain point of view.
  • This Cannot Be!: Nox goes through multiple expressions of disbelief during the episode:
    • The first one when he realizes that Yugo, by touching the Eliacube, has sent the entire clock and themselves to Mount Zinit, potentially ruining his plans and unable to believe a child could tap into the Eliacube's power so easily.
    • The second one when Yugo manages to overpower him in combat and No-Sell his time-freeze magic.
    • The last one, the most serious, when he realizes that the time travel was too short and that all the Wakfu he obtained through 200 years of atrocities and genocide only allowed him to go back for 20 minutes.
  • The Unreveal: Lampshaded when Nox claims that perhaps he'll get to see what Yugo's hiding under his hat.
  • Unstoppable Rage: With the death of Dally still fresh in his mind, Yugo decides to go all out against Nox for the final battle. It's only a fatal distraction that costs him the victory.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Nox undergoes an epic one when he realizes that even with the Eliacube and 200 years of Wakfu could only rewind the time in all Krosmos for 20 minutes. He's first furious and screaming at the Eliacube for lying to him, but eventually he just drops down and cries when the full weight of his actions strikes him down.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The credit sequence shows several characters encountered in previous episodes and shows what they're doing.

20 Minutes

After centuries of collecting Wakfu & committing atrocities, all to get back to his family, his time travel device, only takes him as far back...as 20 minutes.

How well does it match the trope?
