It's test day at Trollzopolis High, and everyone but Sapphire is content to have fun instead of study. But when Simon returns, wielding a powerful new staff, they have two big problems to worry about. Managing to escape him for now, the girls find that Obsidian has a copy of the spell the five Ancients used to seal Simon away 3,000 years ago, while Amethyst's grandma and Mr. Trollheimer can give the exact measurements and list of ingredients needed to make it. Most of the ingredients are taken from the test they blew off studying, and are only found in the Haunted Woodz, but it's going to take all five of them for the spell to work. Sapphire isn't sure if she believes them—but says if they'll study together, she'll go with them.

In the Woodz, the girls use Sapphire's study cards to find the ingredients, and when Simon kidnaps Ruby with a walking fir tree, Topaz is able to save her. Simon isn't beaten yet, though, and the next day he returns and attacks Mr. Trollheimer and the girls while the rest of the class is taking the test. The girls add almost all of the ingredients and chant the spell correctly, but forgot the stalactite. Luckily, one of Simon's magic blasts knocks the stalactite into the mixture, and he and Snarf should be banished to the Shadow World for good. Mr. Trollheimer lets the girls retake the test and everyone but Sapphire gets Cs. They admit they didn't study as hard as she did, but are happy that Simon's gone.

Meanwhile, Simon vows revenge while wondering what he did to deserve being banished, with Snarf reminding him that he did try to turn all the good magic evil and destroyed the world of the Trollz as they knew it. At Amethyst's house, the girls relax and party, though Onyx thinks their adventures aren't over yet.

This episode contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Studying is important and shouldn’t be blown off until the last minute.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: In the extended ending, Ruby uses a spell to make pillows come to life for a pillow fight.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:
Amethyst: Obsidian, Simon's back and badder than ever! And he brought some kind of powerful staff with him!
Topaz: (her ponytail split in half from the bubble) And it...ruined my hair!!
  • Bag of Kidnapping: The girls trap Snarf in one and stuff him into a locker.
  • Childish Pillow Fight: The extended version of the episode ends with the girls having one, with Ruby casting a spell so they animate themselves.
  • Circling Birdies: Stars spin around Simon’s head when Topaz trips the walking tree he was riding on and he falls to the ground.
    • The same thing happens to Ruby later then she gets picked up by a tree and shaken.
  • Exact Words: Topaz's spell to get Sapphire to hold her tongue ends up with her literally holding her tongue.
  • Expospeak Gag: A lot of the ingredients to the banishing spell consist of these.
  • Facepalm: Mr. Trollheimer does this when Sapphire keeps asking him if the material he’s going over in class will be on the upcoming test.
  • Floating in a Bubble: Simon uses a spell to shrink the girls sans Sapphire and trap them in bubbles.
  • Helpless Kicking: Ruby does this when she’s trapped in the grasp of a tree that Simon brought to life.
  • Irony: Sapphire gets an A+, while the rest of the girls get Cs. They didn't study as well as Sapphire, as they reveal.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Simon hits the potion and the stalactite, the last ingredient needed for the spell to work, with one of the blasts from his staff. As the two fly into the air, the stalactite falls into the flask and the spell is completed, banishing Simon and Snarf back to the Shadow World.
  • Plot Hole: Near the end, Sapphire invites the girls to an extra credit party at her house, but when we see the girls at their party, they are at Amethyst's house.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Alert viewers will notice the stalactite is still on the counter long before the BFFL realize they forgot to add it to the potion.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder:
Simon: What kind of idiot would go into the Haunted Woods at midnight?!
    Snarf: Well, you’re here.
  • Rummage Fail: Obsidian rummages through a trunk in her shop to find a spell to defeat Simon, but ends up pulling out a bunch of random things like a rubber ducky and a cauldron first.
  • Rump Roast: Every time Simon uses his staff to cast a spell while Snarf is sitting on it, it scorches his butt.
  • Save the Jerk: Snarf tries to save Simon, even though he’s in the middle of insulting the poor little creature.
  • Spoofs "R" Us: After Mr. Trollheimer dashes out of the classroom upon seeing Simon flying around outside the window, Ruby says “It’s like he just heard about a half price sale at Chemistry Sets R Us.”
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: The swirling tornado caused by the Trollz’s spell carries Simon and Snarf up into the sky and disappears into a twinkle.
  • When the Clock Strikes Twelve: The Trollz have to go to the Haunted Woods at midnight to gather the ingredients they need for their spell to banish Simon.
  • When Trees Attack: Simon sends walking fir trees to capture Ruby.
