Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 S 2 E 16 City At War Part 3

Go To

Karai enlists the help of the Turtles in taking control of the Foot Clan to end the raging war. Raphael, still mad at how Leonardo handles things, refuses her help, but his brothers and Casey go with it.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Raphael (with some help from Master Splinter).
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: When Raph returns to help his brothers.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The head of the Foot Elite easily defeats the Japanese Foot ninja loyal to Karai.
  • Deal with the Devil: Leo likens his alliance with Karai as this.
  • Enemy Civil War: In addition to the ongoing Mob War, the New York branch of the Foot is revealed to have gone rogue and are engaged in a civil war with their Japanese counterparts.
    • On a lesser note, during the battle in the Shredder’s skyscraper, the Purple Dragons are split between Hun (who wants to follow “the Shredder’s” orders) and Dragonface (who is tired of being the Foot’s stooge).
  • Enemy Mine: The turtles and Casey team up with Karai to end the war between the Foot Ninjas, Purple Dragons and Mob.
    • Near the end, the Foot and Hun form a brief one after they discover that Karai was impersonating the Shredder.
  • Heel Realization: Raphael, for this episode.
Leonardo: I thought you were sitting this one out.
Raphael: Well, I calmed down, thought about it, and realized I was being an idiot.
  • If I Wanted You Dead...: When Karai says she wants to talk:
Don: Oh, you wanna talk? 'Cause I kinda got the idea that you wanted to kick our shells.
Karai: If I had wanted to destroy you, you would not be alive to talk.
  • Hope Spot: Karai's plan to end the war was to use the guise of the Shredder to unite the Foot and Hun to destroy the rogue Mob, then get the remaining parties to stand down. It all works like a charm in bringing the three factions, but then Dragon Face pipes up about wanting to take over Shredder's turf instead of getting it back for him like a stooge, resulting in the Dragons fracturing between those loyal to Hun and Dragon Face, and the Mob attack just about everyone in sight. Worse, the helmet gets knocked off and the New York Foot become hostile, turning the fight into a chaotic free-for-all.
  • Mêlée à Trois: Between the New York Foot, the mob, the Purple Dragons loyal to Hun, the Purple Dragons loyal to Dragonface, the Japanese Foot, and the Turtles.
  • Mob War: The Foot Clan, the Purple Dragons and the Mob battle for control of New York following the Shredder's disappearance.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Right after Stockman and the mob boss are revealed to have survived their car crash from the previous episode, they have this reaction when they find themselves cornered by the entire Purple Dragons gang.
    • Stockman understandably freaks out when the Shredder (really Karai in disguise) seems to have returned.
    • Hun has a moment as he's teetering on the edge of falling out of the skyscraper.
  • Pet the Dog: Saki's adoption of Karai. Even if he may have ulterior motives for raising her, it's very nice to even think about that little flashback.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Raphael for this episode.
    • After getting thrashed by the Foot and Purple Dragons, the mob cuts their losses and flee.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The Foot Elite don't die in this story like they did in the original Mirage storyline and remain as recurring villains for a much longer period of time after this.
  • Sword over Head: Karai does this to one of the defeated Foot Elite.
  • The Reveal: Right at the end we see that the Shredder is still alive.
  • Undying Loyalty: The moment that the Shredder seems to have come back, Hun immediately swears allegiance to him.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Hun picks up a support beam and uses it to smack Karai around.
