Ma and Pa's Big Hurrah

Original air date: 3/10/2023 (produced in 2022)

After their house falls apart, Harold and Margaret SquarePants go to stay with their son. But while SpongeBob tries to be a mature adult for his parents, all Harold and Margaret wanna do is let loose and have fun.

"Ma and Pa's Big Hurrah" contains examples of:

  • Bridal Carry: Harold carries Margaret this way as they escape their rotting avocado house.
  • Bubble Pipe: SpongeBob uses one as part of his mature getup.
  • Caught Coming Home Late: Parodied. After Margaret and Harold return to the pineapple after sneaking out, they find SpongeBob waiting for them. He demands to know where they've been because it's 8PM.
  • Day in the Limelight: This is the first major role for SpongeBob's parents since "A SquarePants Family Vacation", and this first episode to mainly focus on them.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: When Harold and Margaret return to the pineapple after partying, they are dancing and stumbling around similar to a person arriving home drunk, complete with Harold wearing a lampshade on his head.
  • Go-to-Sleep Ending: The episode ends with SpongeBob falling asleep and being carried by his parents to their newly repaired house.
  • Here We Go Again!: By the end of the episode, SpongeBob ends up destroying his house, requiring him and Gary to stay with his parents until it gets fixed.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Harold exclaims when SpongeBob will act his age after he and Margaret acted like him throughout the whole episode while SpongeBob himself tried to act mature.
  • I Will Show You X!: After SpongeBob gets fed up with his parents acting like children while he's been trying to be an adult, SpongeBob shouts, "You want wild? I'll show you wild!" and activates his soda jetpacks, resulting in him being flung around the house.
  • Lampshade Wearing: Harold wears one when he and Margaret return to the pineapple after partying.
  • Post Tantrum Sleep: After SpongeBob blows his top and wrecks his entire house, he is asleep, and his parents decide to take him back to their house in the meantime.
  • Running Gag: Patrick appearing around SpongeBob's house while the latter cleans.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: SpongeBob does a proper stock one (not his old one done by Tom Kenny himself) when he faces his luchador opponent, "El Muerte".
  • Series Continuity Error: Harold and Margaret are shown living in a retirement community instead of their house from "BlackJack", though it's possible they moved sometime between then and now.
  • Soda Can Shake Up: SpongeBob straps bottles of soda around his body, which he shakes up and causes the corks to pop off so he can fly all across the room.
  • Toilet Paper Prank: Margaret does this to Squidward's house. When she convinces SpongeBob to join in, he ends up hitting Squidward in the face.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Since SpongeBob is trying to prove to his parents that he is a mature responsible adult, he ends up playing the serious role in contrast to both Harold and Margaret and their wacky antics.

Yellow Pavement

Original air date: 3/17/2023 (produced in 2022)

You'll learn everything you need to know about getting your boating license in Mrs. Puff's educational driving film starring SpongeBob and Squidward.

"Yellow Pavement" contains examples of:

  • Butt-Monkey: Squidward continuously gets injured thanks to SpongeBob.
  • Canis Latinicus: When Squidward is disrupted by SpongeBob hopping on a pogo-stick, the screen freezes and text pops up labeling him "Porfireous Aggravatus".
  • Faux-To Guide: The second educational driving film in the series.
  • Fruit Cart: One appears on the road as an obstacle for Squidward. He manages to avoid it by stretching the bottom of the boatmobile so that the cart goes under the wheels.
  • Fun with Acronyms: When Squidward is at his limit, Mrs. Puff tells Squidward remember to Relax And Go Elsewhere.
  • Given Name Reveal: Mrs. Puff's first name is revealed to be "Penelope".
  • Literal-Minded: SpongeBob thinks that being a "backseat driver" means you can literally drive from the backseat.
  • Missing the Good Stuff: The film projector breaks down right as Squidward is about to be beaten up by an angry truck driver.
Mrs. Puff: "This darn projector! Just when we were getting to the good part!"
  • Never Mess with Granny: Right when Squidward was about to unintentionally crash into the old lady Mable, she grows muscle and smashes the boat with her muscular body, and then she throws the boat into the garbage truck.
  • Rage Breaking Point: This happens to Squidward two times, as when SpongeBob as a passenger kept pestering him driving, Squidward throws SpongeBob into the glove department at his fed up point. Again when he encounters Patrick go in front of him when driving, at this point, his face turns completely red and full of rage, and steps hard on the pedal.
  • Right Way/Wrong Way Pair: Squidward is once again presented as the good driver while SpongeBob is the bad driver.
  • Running Gag: SpongeBob asking for his license.
  • Sheet of Glass: Right after the Fruit Cart, Squidward starts heading towards two men carrying a sheet of glass. Squidward also manages to avoid it by using a ramp to jump over it.
  • Slow-Motion Pass-By: The slow children at play goes in slow motion.
  • Stylistic Suck: Due to the film projector breaking, SpongeBob attempts to finish the film, and it goes as well as you expect.
  • Tame His Anger: SpongeBob successfully helps Squidward tame his anger by doing the breathing method, giving him some tea, and using sands. Unfortunately, they caused a traffic jam and stirred the anger of other drivers.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: Apart from a crude drawing by SpongeBob, we never see what became of Squidward by the end.
