Go To

Original air date: 7/4/2001

A team of religious leaders help Stan rescue Kyle from a cult centered on David Blaine's magic.

Tropes:

  • Apocalypse Cult: The members of Blainetology try to commit mass suicide in Washington D.C. to force approval of the tax exempt status.
  • Call-Back: The invitations to the Blainetology convention mentions "free punch and pie".
  • Call-Forward: Cartman laments that he's going to die before he can get his pubes. The plot for the next episode began with him "getting pubes".
  • Captain Ersatz: Sea Man is Aquaman with a blue shirt instead of an orange one.
  • Car Fu: A couple of Blainetologists try to run over Stan for being a "deserter".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Butters' mother is named "Carol" in this episode (the same placeholder name that was originally given to Stan and Kyle's mothers in Death). She would later be given the name "Linda".
  • Epic Fail: Jesus' magic tricks would've been effective if he hadn't made Stan turn around and simply replace a pitcher of water with wine. He even did a similar trick and told an entire audience to turn around! Stan noticeably facepalms.
  • Groin Attack: Stan and Kyle take turns doing this to Cartman when he mocks their friendship for each other.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": Everyone takes turns chuckling at calling Seaman "Semen".
  • Impossibly Awesome Magic Trick: Parodied. David Blaine can apparently eat his own head, transport a card into someone's anus, and bring an Abraham Lincoln statue to life. Turns out there was magic involved.
  • Living Statue: David Blaine makes a statue of Abraham Lincoln come to life, while the Super Best Friends create one of John Wilkes Booth.
  • Malicious Misnaming: The Super Best Friends likes to do this with Seaman, as they continually call him the similarly sounding "Semen". Even the narrator cracks up when he's trying to say Seaman's name.
  • Only Six Faces: Parodied, when the boys get their heads shaved, they can't tell who is who, except Cartman. At one point Stan and Kyle mix themselves up until Stan puts his hat on. Yet Stan is still able to tell who Kenny is.
  • Take That!: To David Blaine and, subtly, Scientology.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Kenny drowns himself in the Reflecting Pool as part of a cult's mass suicide. This is the first time Kenny dies unhooded.
  • Traumatic Haircut: The members of Blainetology are required to do this.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: David Blaine does this when he is defeated by the Super Best Friends by escaping in a rocket ship.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Krishna's power.
  • Waking Non Sequitur: When Kyle wakes Cartman up in his attempt to talk about mass suicide, Cartman yells out, "No, Paula Poundstone, leave me alone!" (a Take That! to when Poundstone was accused of child sexual abuse).
