Recap / SMG4 - MAR10 DAY

Go To

It's MAR10 Day and everyone's celebrating Mario's special day, except for one person...

MAR10 day has finally arrived, and the festivities are going smoothly until the main event, which Mario can't perform without his trusted buddy SMG4. As SMG3, Meggy, Tari and Bob try to flush him out, the party threatens to take a turn for the worse...

  • Ax-Crazy: Being locked up in his room for several weeks has clearly taken its toll on SMG4's sanity, as shown when he goes on a rage-fuelled rampage and throws everyone out of the party.
  • Batter Up!: SMG4 bludgeons Wario and Waluigi with a baseball bat.
  • Cliffhanger: SMG4 locks himself back up again, and the others find that he has started a strange live video counting down to something.note
  • Downer Ending: Needless to say, MAR10 Day goes horribly wrong, with SMG4 maiming Wario and Waluigi badly, forcing all the guests home, and lashing out at everyone before locking himself in his room again.
  • Everyone Has Standards: SMG3 is disgusted with his fellow meme guardian for his violent behavior to the point where he chews him out for it.
  • Foreshadowing: While everyone's trying to get SMG4 to come out of his room, Meggy's attempt has her threaten to disconnect his internet. He's ultimately forced out when a fight knocks the wifi router over.
  • Get Out!: Yelled at full volume several times by SMG4 during his rage.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: After getting fed up with Mario delaying the main event of the celebration, Wario turns it into a WAR10 day celebration, complete with "Crazy Wario's Microgame Emporium”.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Wario and Waluigi suffer for their Hostile Show Takeover by first getting beaten up by Meggy and Mario, then bashed in the head by a crazed, bat-wielding SMG4.
  • Madness Makeover: When SMG4 finally comes out of his room, he has frizzled hair, dirty clothes, bloodshot eyes, a messy neckbeard, and isn't wearing his signature hat.
  • Madness Mantra: While attacking the party guests, SMG4 repeatedly screams "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT!".
  • Mood Whiplash: A rather heavy one. While Mario and Meggy are beating up Wario and Waluigi, the typical sort of humor you'd see in a usual SMG4 video, SMG4 – furious due to the wifi router getting knocked out during the chaos – comes out of his room and screams at everyone to shut up. He then annihilates Wario and Waluigi with a metal bat, turns Waluigi into a rocket launcher, and starts shooting at the party guests to force them all out all while screaming "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT!". When SMG3 calls him out on his behavior, he immediately and angrily snaps back that no one understands how hard he works. Then, after demanding the remaining cast leave him the "F*** ALONE!!", he retreats back into his room, slamming the metal door behind him. The entire sequence is played completely seriously and sucks the fun out of the rest of the video.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: As with previous episodes that ended on a dark note, the end card for this episode is completely silent save for the sound of SMG4 typing furiously on his computer.
  • Only Sane Man: Swagmaster of all people temporarily attempts to turn down the chaos at the WAR10 Day party… until he gets a hold of Wario's bike.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When SMG4 leaves his room, he's absolutely livid, and shows no restraint in driving out everyone by shooting at them with a Waluigi Launcher. Mario and Meggy comment on this.
    Meggy: What's gotten into him?!
Mario: I DON'T KNOW!! HE'S NEVER BEEN LIKE THIS BEFORE!!!
  • Precision F-Strike: SMG4 at the very end of his rampage/rant drops an F-bomb before shutting himself back up in his room. Any curse beyond his trademark "Goddammit!" is extremely out-of-character for him.
  • Punched Across the Room: Meggy does this to stop Wario from controlling his giant ghostlike head...but she accidentally sends him crashing into the wifi router.
  • Sanity Slippage: When SMG4 finally comes out of his room, it's revealed he's become violently unstable from working on his "perfect video" for weeks, yelling and screaming at everyone before attacking the party guests and lashing out at his friends.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The "SUPAH MARIO Face GAME" is more or less the Face Lift mini-game from Mario Parties 1 and 2.
    • Wario summons the Wario Head to control the party when he makes it WAR10 day.
  • Take That!: It wouldn't be SMG4-Mario if there wasn't at least one potshot at Chris Pratt.
  • The Shut-In: As it turns out, SMG4's been locked in his room for weeks, working on his "perfect video". Granted this has been the case for the past few episodes, which the cast comment upon. Even before he comes out during the episode's climax, it's clear the gang has reached their limit with him not leaving.
  • True Companions:
    • Wario has taken over Mario's party and driven him to tears. Naturally, this doesn't sit well with his best friend Meggy, who angrily boots Wario down the castle's stairs before helping him in trying to retake control of the party.
    • The main event Mario needed SMG4 for? A card dedicated to the meme man for being Mario's Best Friend through thick and thin. Had it not been for SMG4's hostile and violently erratic behavior, Mario would've given him the present, and he's clearly heartbroken when it all amounts to nothing.
  • Wham Episode: What starts out as a celebration of MAR10 Day which already started going awry thanks to Wario pulling a Hostile Show Takeover takes a darker turn once SMG4 leaves his room and forces everyone out, saying he needs his video to be perfect. The end screen is like the one from "Mario Delves Into Nintendo Anti-Piracy Screens...", in that all can be heard is SMG4 furiously typing on his keyboard.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: SMG3 is furious with SMG4's rage-fuelled rampage ruining Mario's party, and chews him out for this. Unfortunately, this fails to deter him, as he retorts that no one understands how hard he works.
SMG3: OI! IDIOT!! We're all here to celebrate your best friend's day, and you're acting like THIS!?!
SMG4: NONE OF YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORK I DO!!!
