Recap / Phineas And Ferb The Great Indoors

Go To

When Isabella and the Fireside Girls cannot get a patch because it's raining, Phineas and Ferb create a biodome that can change its weather. During this, Candace uses the invention as an attempt to find out what Jeremy likes about her. Unbeknownst to them, the rain is caused by Doofenshmirtz's Rain-inator, who is raining out a soccer game so he can watch his Spanish soap opera without it getting preempted.

Tropes:

  • Addictive Foreign Soap Opera: Dr. Doofenshmirtz's plot is kicked off when he becomes obsessed with a Spanish soap opera, El Madator de Amor, on his new TV.
  • All for Nothing: Doof set up an elaborate series of tortures for Perry to go through, but he once again slips on the chair and ends up straight in Doof's trap.
  • Alternate Catchphrase Inflection: Isabella asks Phineas, "Whatcha doin'?" sadly.
  • Butt-Monkey: Addyson suffers heatstroke in the desert, gets carried downstream in the rainforest, and hit on the head with a boulder in the mountains.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Doofenshmirtz's TV is stuck on the Spanish channel. Those who speak Spanish will realize that they are actually playing out the situation between Candace and Jeremy in Spanish. In the end, he curses Perry in Spanish.
Doofenshmirtz: ¡Maldito seas, Perry el Ornitorrinco!
  • Instant Humiliation: Just Add YouTube!: Perry slips on his wet chair when entering his lair, and Monogram and Carl are amused by it and keep replaying it and reversing it and slowing it down as if they are on America's Funniest Home Videos. Perry, of course, fails to see the humor, and Monogram becomes serious and tells Carl to grow up. However, after Perry leaves...
    Carl: Run it again, sir?
Major Monogram: I'll get the popcorn!
    • Later, when Perry does the same thing at Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc., Doof says that that will be added to the "Christmas party reel".
  • Interrupted by the End: In the final scene, Jeremy is finally going to tell Candace what he likes about her, but right before he can speak, the scene suddenly cuts to a soccer game.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The soap opera Doof is watching is described as having three plots that interconnect. This is a nod to the typical formula for Phineas and Ferb, with three plots that connect — Phineas and Ferb's, Candace's, and Perry and Doof's.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: Adyson, delirious with sunstroke, mutters, "Hey, the salamanders quit singing." After getting bopped by a falling rock, she says, "The salamanders are back!"
  • Noodle Incident: "I mean, it's like your hair was genetically engineered to ensnare those giant fruit bats."
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: Phineas and Ferb have to play with cardboard cutouts of themselves and their tree since it is raining. Isabella and the Fireside Girls were hoping to get their Desert Trekking Patch but had to cancel because of the rain. Of course, it is revealed that the rain is due to Doof's Raininator, who invented it just to rain out a soccer game to watch a telenovela he was obsessed with without it getting preempted by the said game.
  • Roundabout Shot: Candace and Jeremy have one as they spin on the river during "Set the Record Straight".
  • Running Gag:
    • The Fireside Girls earning a new patch after another.
    • Jeremy is about to tell Candace what he likes about her, but is distracted or cut off by something else.
  • Silly Love Songs: "Set the Record Straight", sung by Jeremy as he tries to tell Candace what he likes about her.
  • Shout-Out: Jeremy's song has a few visual tributes to the "Kiss the Girl" scene from The Little Mermaid (1989).
  • Soap Within a Show: El Matador de Amor, a parody of Spanish soap operas which Doofenshmirtz can't stop watching.
  • Special Guest: Erik Estrada plays the hero of the telenovela that Doof is obsessed with, while Andres Cantor plays the Spanish announcer of the fútbol game, and even does his trademark "¡Gooooooooooooooooool!"
  • Spoofing in the Rain: Doof introduces his Rain-inator by imitating Gene Kelly. The familiar vamp is also briefly heard.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: Jeremy says this prior to "Set the Record Straight".
  • The Unreveal: We never even find out why Jeremy likes Candace.
  • Verbal Backspace: When hearing Candace gripe about why Jeremy likes her, Linda mutters that he probably likes hearing her talk. Candace wants her to repeat what she said, but instead, she says, "Hey, where's Perry?"
  • Visual Gag: When the Rain-inator hits the biodome and causes it to fly away, it resembles a golf club hitting a golf ball; it even uses a sound effect from a golf ball.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: When the biodome gets taken away, Isabella and Ferb are missing.
