Recap / PK 2 S 2 E 6 Alpha Waves

Go To

90 million of years ago: on a prehistoric, dinosaur-dwelling planet, alien settlers are forced to abandon their outpost to the approaching enemies known as Q'zwokk. Before leaving, they activate a device which will allow them to get rid of their pursuers....Modern day Duckburg: PK is still growing suspiscious of Everett's devices, while a sudden quake causes a crevasse to open near the tower in front of the Duckmall Center. Soon, a massive warrior clad in a flying armor suit is attacking Paperinik, claiming to be there to defeat the villainous Q'zwokk. Meanwhile, Everett takes Juniper to see the city, and PK catches the girl's attention...

This Issue contains examples of:

  • Ambiguously Evil: We know nothing of the two alien races in the beginning, so it's hard to say if any of them or both were actually villainous or not.
  • BFG: Everett builds a massive gun almost as long as he's tall to deal with PK. Fortunately, it's meant to erase his memory, but it's still threatening-looking either way.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The red aliens in the beginning can use their Alpha Waves generator to brainwash people and animals into obeying them. Rupert ends up donning the special armor to fight PK, who he mistakenly identifies as a Q'zwokk.
  • Contrived Coincidence: As noted later, the Q'zwokk uniforms are rather similar to PK's own costume.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Juniper seems smitten with PK? Everett deems it enough of a threat to prepare a special gun specifically to deal with it. Luckily it's just meant to cause amnesia, not kill.
  • Energy Weapon: The alien armor is equipped with both wrist-mounted red laser (strong enough to melt even a powerful alien metal) and green lasers from the hands.
  • Foreshadowing: Juniper recognizes the effects of Alpha Waves, hinting at her Obfuscating Stupidity.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Everett planned to use his gun to wipe out parts of PK's memory. After he saves Juniper, he's grateful enough to use the gun on himself to forget PK's civilian identity.
  • Love at First Sight: Juniper, after witnessing PK's heroic deeds in person.
  • Moral Myopia: Luckily averted: when brainwashed!Rupert is fighting PK, he makes a point to never touch civilians, even becoming baffles when Tempest jumps on the line of fire and begs him to stop. As PK notices, he genuinely believe he's the good guy.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Destroying the machine producing the Alpha Waves stops Rupert's mind control.
  • Oh, Crap!: Paperinik has one when, after destroying one drone protecting the satellite dish device, he's swarmed by a huge number of drones and forced to run away.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The alien brainwashing device from Earth's distant past. Noone saw this coming.
  • Papa Wolf: Everett is very overprotective of Juniper, and when she shows affection for PK he immediately decides to employ extreme measures.
  • Pet the Dog: After being introduced as a grumpy old codger, Lyonard learns that PK is a superhero and decides to give him a chance, letting him stay in the Century factory.
  • Powered Armor: Something the red aliens left behind. Rupert ends up wearing it and using it to give PK the fight of his life.
  • Ragnarök Proofing: 90 millions years in the ground and the device still works.
  • Rescue Romance: Invoked by Juniper, who believes that PK cares for her because he immediately jumped to shield her from the armored stranger.
  • Schmuck Bait: In the prologue, the red aliens left their device on in their outpost, so that when the Q'zwokk arrive they're attacked by the brainwashed dinosaurs.
  • Spiritual Successor: Morgan seems to have taken Angus' role as "mean journalist ready to defame PK" to the heart.
  • Talk to the Fist: When PK tries to reason with the armored Rupert, he attacks him claiming that he has no friends among the Q'zwoon.
  • The Unpronounceable: The Q'zwokk had it bad, as lampshaded by PK, but their opponents are worse. Their leader's name was **°°^, have fun finding a pronunciation!
  • The Worf Effect: Paperink tries to block the enemy's laser using the unseen-before giant shield mode of the Extrasformer, which produces a massive extra-thick shield made to be Nigh-Invulnerable: one blow is enough to melt it.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Everett has this reaction when Juniper declares that Paperinik is "the man she loves".
  • Zerg Rush: The security on Everett's devices consist in swarms of drones as those found inside the Tower.
